Carl Bernstein Interviewed: Trump’s Phone Calls Alarmed US Officials So Much, They Described Him as “Delusional” [VIDEO]

Politics • Views: 23,473

YouTube

Carl Bernstein is confirming again what has been obvious for years — that Donald Trump is profoundly, grievously unfit to be the president of the US.

But once again, what did these officials do about their “alarm,” besides take notes and have their agents line up book deals?

In hundreds of highly classified phone calls with foreign heads of state, President Donald Trump was so consistently unprepared for discussion of serious issues, so often outplayed in his conversations with powerful leaders like Russian President Vladimir Putin and Turkish President Recep Erdogan, and so abusive to leaders of America’s principal allies, that the calls helped convince some senior US officials — including his former secretaries of state and defense, two national security advisers and his longest-serving chief of staff — that the President himself posed a danger to the national security of the United States, according to White House and intelligence officials intimately familiar with the contents of the conversations.

The legacy of this administration will be the dozens of people who saw that Trump was totally unfit for the job, yet kept him in it because they were in some way profiting from it.

What’s even left at this point that’s going to be worse than all the horrible things we already know about him? It boggles the mind.

Yeah, just as there was no official ban on gay marriage in many states, just state offices refusing to issue marriage licenses to gay couples. A right you can’t exercise is no different from one that is banned.

This is about an Evangelical church in Menlo Park, CA, called Menlo Church. The pastor is named John Ortberg. Last year, around Thanksgiving, Ortberg’s son, Daniel Lavery, learned that a person at the church was volunteering around children, while at the same time having a paraphilia, a sexual attraction, to those children. He urged John Ortberg to remove the volunteer from contact with children.

John Ortberg refused, and in fact pretty much told Daniel that he (Daniel) had nothing to offer because Daniel is a transgender man. Daniel then went to the Elder Board, which temporarily removed John from his pastorate, but let him come back. The head elder, a woman named Beth Seabolt, insinuated at a church town hall that Daniel was like a teenager lashing out at his father (even though Lavery is 33) and also blamed it on Daniel being transgender.

Well, Lavery has finally had enough, and finally decided yesterday that he could not trust Menlo Church to do the right thing and remove the man with the paraphilia, so in a long tweet thread, he exposed who the volunteer was. And it was his brother. John Ortberg III.

(This is in the middle of the very long thread.)

Now. why do I care? When this came out last February, I completely lost my shit when a so-called “Christian journalist” deadnamed Lavery. I was extremely pissed off. I let her have it on Twitter and she blocked me. I’m not sorry, I’d do it again today if I had the opportunity. But it was this incident that stepped on my last nerve and pushed me over the edge. These Evangelical Christians thought Daniel Lavery, couldn’t really be believed because he’s transgender. It’s because of this incident that I decided I will never go back to church in this lifetime. And that’s why I’m pissy this afternoon.

Aside from that, if Trump came out strongly in favor of masks now, things get back under control in a couple of months, everyone forgets the current fuckery, and he boosts his re-election chances significantly.

But he won’t, because the right-wing talking point now is that masks = ebil librul agenda, and you literally could not pay them money to wear a mask in public. Hell, I’m surprised we haven’t had covidiots burning masks on YouTube to own the libs.

Remember way back last July, when Trump was first going to nominate asshole Ratcliffe for DNI?

Ratcliffe withdrew after Republican senators raised concerns about him, former intelligence officials said he might politicize intelligence, and media revealed Ratcliffe’s embellishments regarding his prosecutorial experience in terrorism and immigration cases.

Yeah, didn’t believe a word the asshole said then and don’t believe a word he says now. Also thought he was one of the most obnoxious participants in the impeachment hearings, and he had some really stiff competition there.

A study by New York University (NYU) researchers found that higher academic achievement among men is not the underlying reason for more men than women majoring in physics, engineering, and computer science (PECS). NYU’s Joseph R. Cimpian said these majors draw and retain lower-achieving males, with the result of women being underrepresented but demonstrating higher science, technology, engineering, and math competence and academic achievement. The researchers analyzed data from nearly 6,000 U.S. high-school students over seven years, and determined that males in the first percentile were majoring in PECS at the same rate as females in the 80th percentile. The researchers also learned that the lowest-achieving male student was as least as likely to major in PECS as the highest-achieving female student. Said Cimpian, “This new evidence … suggests that efforts to dismantle barriers to women in these fields would raise overall quality of students.”

This one hit hard due to the suddenness of it happening. Saw the cat at 8pm acting perfectly normally. And then essentially find the body two hours later with no apparent cause there for what happened.

Sort of numbing in combination with losing Chat Noir over the weekend. That loss was sort of viewed as inevitable due to his health issues over the past months.

And I noticed that I nudged Fat Cat a few times already just to make sure she was responsive. A bit of paranoia creeping in.

Trump or no Trump, Germany says Europe will have to forge a path without the U.S. on foreign policy matters

I am sure that they will be happy to work with any reasonable administration.

It was especially poignant when Trump told the Poles that Germany needs to spend more money on its military…they must have appreciated that, especially recalling how well the Wehrmacht kept Poland free of Soviet domination from 1939-44…

The worry Over Here is that any “reasonable” American administration-slash-elected-monarchy can be followed four years later by, well, something like the current administration-slash-elected-monarchy.

Europe and indeed the rest of the world really wants to be able to make plans for more than four years ahead. Having to factor in the distinct possibility that the 357kg gorilla in the world’s diplomatic sphere will go batshit crazy some leap-year November is now a sunk cost in such deliberations.

Pretty much one of the long term consequences of the Trump presidency.

Our diplomatic trustworthiness and value as an ally to both nations (Europe) and ethnic groups (Kurds) is trashed. Our legacy of a justice-seeking judiciary and professional and somewhat non-political State Department and Justice Department has been shown to be paper thin and now heavily politicized. And our inherent racism and defending authoritarian behavior by our internal police and border patrol units is open to see.

And that’s that……

Beijing’s top legislative body has unanimously passed a sweeping national security law for Hong Kong prohibiting acts of secession, subversion, terrorism and collusion with foreign forces to endanger national security.

The law, approved by the National People’s Congress Standing Committee (NPCSC) on Tuesday, is expected to carry a maximum penalty of life in jail.

Sources told the Post the law was approved unanimously by the standing committee’s 162 members, within 15 minutes of the meeting starting at 9 am.

Only a handful of Hong Kong delegates to the national legislature saw a draft of the law before its passage, a major point of contention, with many in the city decrying the lack of transparency given the legislation’s far-reaching consequences.

scmp.com

I always figured there would be an exodus out of Hong Kong as we got closer to 2047, when China was originally slated to completely take over. Looks like that exodus is probably going to be starting in the immediate future.

If the media turns relentlessly anti-Trump, exposing every little thing - which they should’ve done four years ago - then it’s going to pile ever more pressure on Trump.

The GOP will start getting increasingly nervous about their overall prospects this November. If Trump’s numbers are still cratering in early to mid September…..the GOP is going to try to put as much daylight between themselves and Trump as they possibly can. And that will cause a split between the more old-school Republicans who are looking to salvage something from what they perceive of as an impending electoral rout and the Trumpite wing of the party, who are willing to burn the country to the ground - as long as they get to rule over the ashes.

Since I’ve been working at home I’m usually up out of bed before the clock alarm comes on. This morning I slept in, so the first advertisement I heard on the radio (local oldies station that services the east metro) was inviting the whole family to visit a waterpark in western Wisconsin. I think that these are still closed in MN and I bet they want to lure all of the ‘frustrated’ Minnesotans that they can. The ad’s pitch was that kids can’t really have any fun in a backyard wading pool.

That’s fucking criminal.

215
Dr Lizardo  Jun 30, 2020 • 6:16:47am

They just reported on the Czech afternoon news that Joseph James DeAngelo Jr., 74, pleaded guilty to 26 charges, including murder and rape. DeAngelo was better known as the East Area Rapist/Original Night Stalker, or by a more recent moniker, the Golden State Killer.

This plea deal will spare him the death penalty, but due to his age and California Governor Gavin Newsom’s moratorium on executions, it was unlikely that DeAngelo would have faced the death penalty in any event.

The further the timeline on this intel gets pushed back, the more unbelievable the idea that Trump is just now hearing about it becomes. The idea that the intel community sat on it for over a year, held a high-level meeting in the WH to discuss responses, and yet nobody told Trump says nothing positive at all and raises very real questions about what else they’ve sat on.

I read about it when I was a kid in the 1970s. It was in one of those woowoo books that were really popular at the time, those cheap paperbacks. Of course, the book I read it in was suggesting that it was a UFO that exploded in mid-air or something like that but it also noted the prevailing consensus that it was a superbolide airburst, like the one that happened over Chelyabinsk in 2013, except the Tunguska one either was much larger or exploded much lower in the atmosphere.

President Trump set off a ‘five-alarm fire’ in the White House on Sunday morning after he retweeted a video of one of his supporters saying ‘white power,’” NBC News reports.

“The video remained on the president’s Twitter page, where he has 82 million followers, for more than three hours because White House officials couldn’t reach him to ask him to delete it, the two officials said. The president was at his golf club in Virginia and had put his phone down.”

Greets and saluts from the NYC metro area. This morning the NYPD amped up their effort to clear City Hall Park of protests demanding police accountability - with predictable results.

More force, more arrests. Cops showing up in riot gear.

That comes after the PBA posted photos showing the latest class of NYPD cadets at the police academy in varying degrees of masking. Considering that the leading cause of death is covid19 among law enforcement this year, that there wasn’t 100% masking among those cadets is asinine. They aren’t following safety protocols designed to keep them safe, and they don’t appear to care how much force they use to clear peaceful protesters, so there’s something clearly wrong and dysfunctional about how cops organize/behave/and are policing themselves.

Don’t look for them to take up that bill anytime soon. Oh, and Trump’s a fucking lunatic who doesn’t read his briefings, doesn’t care how many die of covid19, and his idiotic/sycophantic advisers are fine with all of this so long as they can cash in with book deals.

Impeachment 2.0 is absolutely warranted. This isn’t just policy failures, this is criminal conduct by all those involved. They ignore their oaths, they ignore Trump’s felony conduct. They do more than ignore Trump’s felony conduct - they actively support and engage in the coverups of those criminal acts.

We are weaker for it. Our economy is in tatters because of it. Our foreign policy is in shambles. The GOP has bent itself into a pretzel to protect the most corrupt and incompetent admin in history.

We fucking know that had Trump been a (D), the GOP would have moved with so much haste and alarm that they’d have impeached and removed Trump years ago. Now, they are complicit in covering for Trump. They are tied at the hip.

They own this nightmare. They are responsible for it.

And Democrats need to grow a fucking spine and do what needs to be done - hearings and impeach Trump again. The election is in jeopardy thanks to Trump and GOP ratfucking and voter suppression efforts. You can’t rest the outcome on hope and wishful thinking.

You need to make sure that the nation knows just exactly what those corrupt GOPers are up to. All of them. No holds barred - and that includes directly showing how Barr has engaged in felony conduct by interfering in investigations to let Trump’s buddies off the hook despite clear felony conduct by all involved.

Shit.
This ruling seems like a BFD - and not at all in a good way. AFAICT (and I will have to read some more analysis, IANACL, etc….) it seems to knock down a substantial section of the church/state wall, and Constitutionalizes the spending of public (i.e. taxpayer) money on religious organizations - and if a religious school isn’t a “religious organization”, what IS, then? And on “religious freedom”?”free exercise” grounds?

ADD: OK, digging into it a bit more, I see that the Montana case does not address direct funding, but rather the State’s tax credits for donations for scholarships: which had been disallowed for contributions to/for religious schools. Still doesn’t sound like a good thing; though I’ll admit to fairly intense bias here.

re: #294 lawhawk

Greets and saluts from the NYC metro area. This morning the NYPD amped up their effort to clear City Hall Park of protests demanding police accountability - with predictable results.

More force, more arrests. Cops showing up in riot gear.

That comes after the PBA posted photos showing the latest class of NYPD cadets at the police academy in varying degrees of masking. Considering that the leading cause of death is covid19 among law enforcement this year, that there wasn’t 100% masking among those cadets is asinine. They aren’t following safety protocols designed to keep them safe, and they don’t appear to care how much force they use to clear peaceful protesters, so there’s something clearly wrong and dysfunctional about how cops organize/behave/and are policing themselves.

the inconsistency means there’s no standard being stated or enforced
discretionary / up to the individual
what an idiotic message that is

I’m thinking that the way around it is to prohibit credits/payments/etc to _any_ private institution. That way no one can claim religious bias and all state funds are saved for public education.

South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem (R) said the thousands of people who attend the July 3 celebration for Independence Day at Mount Rushmore with President Trump will not be required to practice social distancing despite an increase in coronavirus cases across the country, NBC News reports.

Said Noem: “We will have a large event at July 3rd. We told those folks that have concerns that they can stay home, but those who want to come and join us, we’ll be giving out free face masks, if they choose to wear one. But we will not be social distancing.”

Astronomers are perplexed by the unexplained disappearance of a massive star located 75 million light years away.

A decade ago, light from this colossal star brightened its entire host galaxy, which is officially known as PHL 293B and is nicknamed the Kinman Dwarf. But when scientists checked back in on this farflung system last summer, the glow of the star—estimated to be roughly 100 times more massive than the Sun—had been extinguished. The head-scratching discovery was announced in a study published on Tuesday in the Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society.

“We were quite surprised when we couldn’t find the star,” said lead author Andrew Allan, a PhD student at Trinity College Dublin, in a call. “It is a very extreme star, and it has quite a strong wind, so we can distinguish it from the galaxy. That’s what we couldn’t see in the newer observations.”

Meanwhile, EV does not have a single swing state in Trump’s corner and actually has TX as “Tied.” Again, it should be reiterated that it’s not impossible for Donny to make up the difference and win in November. But the further he falls behind in the polls, the less plausible it becomes that state and local level Repubs can swing enough votes his way to pull off an EC win.

Big thing to consider is that the summer months are usually supposed to be the slowest in a presidential campaign, as most everybody is supposed to be on holiday and not giving much of a care about the news.

Still doesn’t sound like a good thing; though I’ll admit to fairly intense bias here.

I haven’t read the entire decision (there’s Robert’s majority opinion, three concurring opinions, and three dissents), but my gut reaction is that this isn’t as bad a ruling as some think. There’s a few interesting questions - like whether the Montana State Constitution violates the federal free exercise clause (questionable, I think, but a decision that could go either way, which explains the 5-4 decision), that is mostly a federalism question; then there’s the practical application question and whether its direct payments or scholarships/vouchers.

Honestly, I think Roberts’ opinion might be the middle ground on this. Scholarship money can go to private religious schools if that’s where parents want to send their kids. It’s not the state directly funding the religious schools money, which would be a much more troubling situation. Nor does it allow the state to pick and choose which religion or sects get the money. Since, I’m speculating, that most private schools tend to be religious schools, this sort of scholarship program wouldn’t be worth much if it didn’t include religious schools, I’m just not seeing it as a big deal.

Granted, if/when I read the rest of the opinion and possibly see how it could have downstream effects as precedent, I might be willing to change my mind on it.

The difference between Trump and every single one of his predecessors in that office is that he doesn’t actually give a fuck about the job. You can disagree with Reagan or Carter or Obama or either of the Bushes, or Clinton… but they at least all cared about doing the job to the best of their ability and had a sense of patriotism. Watch Republicans running in the House and Senate (and to a certain extent statewide office), if they start distancing themselves from Trump, it is because they know he’s going down and they are going to try and save themselves from people voting D down the line. Most of them should share his fate, but it is what it is, and I’m sure a few will survive - who should be driven out in 2022 or 2024.

Those Republicans will be keeping a sharp eye on the polls around mid-September. If Trump is still tanking, they’re going to realize he’s about to take them all down with him. Then they’ll try to put some daylight between him and them. Of course, by that point, it might well prove to be too little, too late.

His getting away with his Helsinki obeisance to Putin suggests otherwise. And reports (which may not be accurate) that suggest the IC limited this information to the printed report and never told him in their oral briefings because they were concerned that either he would pass information to Putin or that he would fly into a rage at them would allow him to claim that it was the fault of the IC and that these were uncorroborated allegations just like the Russia hoax. He got away with allowing the Saudis to butcher Khashoggi and faced no repercussions from the GOP — there is no reason to believe that the party will do anything to sanction him over this, especially given how many seem in thrall to Russia themselves.

Yeah, I think what’s going to start moving them is when it becomes obvious that the rallies aren’t happening or are not happening in the numbers they need to drum up support.

If they close enough polling places in D districts and the D’s have to form long lines, and enough Boogaloos shoot up those lines and make the voters scatter, the R’s can still pull this off.

Another factor that’s “off” this year is the Convention scheduling. The Dems were originally going to go first early (July 13-16), but pushed it back to Aug, 17-20 due to the pandemic. Which may work out for the best (even if Joe Biden has to be the “presumptive” candidate a few weeks longer), as it will showcase the Democrats - and presumably work any “convention bounce” for Joe just before the RNC (Aug 24??).
Which will probably just show up the GOP as a shitshow..

It’s a state Supreme Court in Dutchess County. That’s trial level state court.

The entire argument against publication rests on the NDA argument Trump relies on to keep everyone quiet about his misconduct all these years.

But I thought that Hillary, Obama and Tom Hanks had been Gitmo’ed long ago? That’s what they told us.

Ain’t gonna happen. Their goalposts have wheels and are motorized.

They’ll just keep kicking the deadline down the road.

That said - my jaw hits the floor when I read Facebook comments and see how many people have eaten the bullshit.

It really is a cult. I guess we’ll see if the observations noted by Festinger, Riecken and Schachter in When Prophecy Fails still hold true.

They found a trial court in Dutchess County? 3d Department will take that on appeal and it’ll get slapped down. It’s prior restraint and that preliminary injunction will be lifted as fast as the publisher can get the lawyers to write it up for them.

It’s the same arguments as Bolton used against Trump in his book publishing effort.

If it’s about the nda they have to let her publish first, then sue for damages, right?

Pure and simple, right wing propaganda makes people who are otherwise somewhat intelligent stupid. I have a cousin who is a doctor who posts Breitbart links. Does he know his medical stuff better than I do? No doubt about it but he’s a moron politically.

Spreading goodwill and corona virus—it’s a day at the beach:

About 100 teens from Washington D.C. have tested positive for coronavirus after a trip to Myrtle Beach, a Virginia official confirmed. Loudoun County, Virginia, Health Director David Goodfriend said their area has seen triple-digit cases after a recent trip to South Carolina.

But our public health director says, “We’ve all given so much for so long…”

Poor, poor pitiful us.

And at the same time they advise Staying at home is the safest way to celebrate the Fourth of July holiday in South Carolina during the coronavirus pandemic…

The fifth annual Horry County Fair is set to open this weekend…The 10-day fair, held at Myrtle Beach Speedway, was originally scheduled April 24-May 3, but organizers postponed it until July 3-12.

I’ll be staying home, thank you very much.

re: #460 Belafon

The Lincoln Project has announced that not only does Trump need to be removed, but as many Republicans as possible need to be removed from office to force them to change.

But what if the GOP is the group responsible for evicting him before August and he is replaced by a conventional GOP standard bearer who supports our allies and vocally attacks Putin? Would they revert to their traditional beliefs because the Republicans finally “came to their senses”?

re: #416 Targetpractice

The AL GOP normally could nominate a dead dog and be guaranteed at least 51% of the final vote. If Doug Jones actually has things tied up, then something has gone very wrong.

Even dead, a dog is far better than whoever Alabama Republicans end up nominating.

Probably not.

I think as far as Project Lincoln is concerned (now that they’ve officially drawn attack ads from another GOP PAC), it’s gotten personal.

No way in hell Rick Wilson is going to reverse course and back Ted Cruz. Too much water under the bridge at this point.

The injunction is meant to preserve status quo until trial can determine if the NDA would prevent publication altogether.

Maybe because you’re a bunch of fucking morons who got had but nah introspection never happens in the right wing movement, just dumbing down. That’s how they got Trump and that’s how they’ll get someone dumber than Trump in 2024.

Trump Jr.
