Something Beautiful and Moving: Sara Bareilles and Joe Tippett, “Keep Your Head Up Child”

Music • Views: 25,396

YouTube

Joe Tippett wrote this song for the graduating residents of Mount Sinai Department of Medicine. He and Sara performed it together on his IGTV (https://www.instagram.com/tv/CBTrNmUj_PK/?igshid=1urg51tw8czr2).

Lyrics:
I bet your feet are tired
Your head feels heavy hanging down
Dimming lights and lonely eyes
No visitors allowed

I bet you’re holding by a thread
Should’ve broke in half by now
But it holds your weight instead
Is there a light gonna show you the way out?

Keep your head up child
Do your best and work hard
Don’t forget it only hurts for a while
Keep your head up child

The road that takes you home
Feels a thousand miles away
The same world you’ve always known
But you don’t recognize a thing

You say you can count on me
Don’t wanna let nobody down
Right now it seems too dark to see
But there’s a light gonna show you the way out

Keep your head up child
Do your best and work hard
Don’t forget it only hurts for a while
Keep your head up child

Just got another Google Adsense violation for that Neil Young barnyard thread. Pretty sure it’s about the FT comments, folks, so maybe it’s time to retire this meme? There are plenty of ways to say it without actually saying it, if ya know what I mean.

Google’s really going after blog comments lately. Which is ironic, since they’re one of the BIGGEST OFFENDERS on the internet when it comes to hateful content, and they’ve been providing ads to the shittiest sites on the web for years.

But yeah, give me a violation for some “fuck Trump” comments, you fucking tech-libertarian shitheads.

Can you tell this pisses me off a little bit?

Yes, but if it means anything, finding new and creative ways to say the thing is a game in its own right.

Interesting section from Sherman’s Special Field Orders No. 120, the guide and instructions for the March Through Georgia.

VI. As for horses, mules, wagons, &c., belonging to the inhabitants, the cavalry and artillery may appropriate freely and without limit, discriminating, however, between the rich, who are usually hostile, and the poor or industrious, usually neutral or friendly.

So, here in NJ a bunch of right wingers are bitching about Murphy and claiming that he was a hypocrite because he was spotted eating indoors all while he was about to declare that he was delaying indoor dining indefinitely.

Of course, that was all a sham - he was under a tented outdoor structure because it was raining otherwise, but he was social distancing/masked all the while.

The right wing will stop at nothing to undermine public health and those who are trying to keep their residents safe.

Among those caterwauling loudest about this?

Almost every member of a survival training class at Fort Bragg is in quarantine following the discovery of a large coronavirus outbreak, U.S. Army officials announced Tuesday.

Out of 110 soldiers taking part in the 19-day survival, evasion, resistance and escape training at the John F. Kennedy Special Warfare Center and School, 82 students and eight instructors have tested positive for coronavirus, Task and Purpose reported.

SERE training is designed to teach soldiers how to evade capture, and to resist interrogation if they are, according to the outlet. Students were in the final stretch of the intensive training when soldiers began feeling sick.

He and his team may be working on a politically viable response to the weekend bombshell that he was informed months ago (or maybe even as early as March 2019?) that Putin was paying bounties to the Taliban to kill Americans. What is Trump going to say? that Putin denied it strongly and he believes him? That would be consistent with his behavior in Helsinki but even his most loyal advisors would be vehement in preventing this reaction.

I wonder if the IC leaked this information to the NY Times because they were tired of waiting for Trump to take action — or if they were frustrated with his deference to Putin and were eager to force his hand — or as an act of vengeance against someone who has demeaned them — or as an act of patriotism against a leader who seems to be an asset of a foreign adversary.

Most communities I’ve seen, the sidewalk itself is not part of the property, but if there’s a grassy space between the sidewalk and street, the homeowners are expected to maintain it even though they do not own it. Typically, the city owns the street and at least up to the sidewalk (if not further), relating to sewers and drainage ditches.

Jesus H. Fucking Christ. That’s absolutely fucking ridiculous.

I good friend of mine lives in St. Louis. She owns a condo in a neighborhood that is made up of mid 20th century working-class apartments that have been converted into condos. It’s a quite beautiful neighborhood. If I go out of her condo, turn left and walk two blocks, there is one of these gated blocks. Bonnie and Clyde live in a different gated block about 10 blocks away from my friend.

To be fair, he just wants to honor his dear old dad.

Old Man Trump by Woody Guthrie
I suppose that Old Man Trump knows just how much racial hate
He stirred up in that bloodpot of human hearts
When he drawed that color line
Here at his Beach Haven family project

Beach Haven ain’t my home!
No, I just can’t pay this rent!
My money’s down the drain,
And my soul is badly bent!
Beach Haven is Trump’s Tower
Where no black folks come to roam,
No, no, Old Man Trump!
Old Beach Haven ain’t my home!

I’m calling out my welcome to you and your man both
Welcoming you here to Beach Haven
To love in any way you please and to have some kind of a decent place
To have your kids raised up in.

Beach Haven ain’t my home!
No, I just can’t pay this rent!
My money’s down the drain,
And my soul is badly bent!
Beach Haven is Trump’s Tower
Where no black folks come to roam,
No, no, Old Man Trump!
Old Beach Haven ain’t my home!

re: #132 teleskiguy

This can happen in primaries with their typically low turnout. That’s how AOC was able to defeat a well-regarded long-term congressman. Of course, there is no comparison between AOC and this loony fanatic when it comes to knowledge and ability but it is possible that some GOP voters wanted a woman and voted for her without knowing her views. Or maybe they were irritated with the congressman for some off-the-wall local reason and were voting against him, rather than for her.

If it’s a private plane, owned by or chartered by someone who employs a top-notch sanitation team to prepare it for passengers. Including replacement of all the air filters and pressurization systems. And everyone on the plane was tested 48 hours ago and quarantined since then.

That would get me on a plane.
