That behavior fits a pattern in Trump’s presidency in which the president seemingly has no interest in or patience for what he considers **the boring work of governing**, several of his former senior advisers say, speaking on the condition of anonymity.

The right wing troglodytes were ripping on Biden before he came out with a plan, claiming that this would destroy the economy, cause millions to lose jobs, etc.

The projecting like IMAX is strong with the GOP. It’s all they ever do.

Biden’s proposals are forward looking and would reorient energy production to renewables and shift away from fossil fuels.

The same coal miners out of work due to coal being a dying industry aren’t being told by Trump to #TrySomethingNew. The mine owners are seeing regs lifted so they can profit more and shift burdens to the workers who see worse working conditions or air quality.

Biden’s proposals are doable, but energy companies need to adjust or find themselves obsolete. The GOP has tied itself to these same energy companies, so they’ll fight tooth and nail to protect the billions in tax breaks that go their way every year from both feds and state governments.

Meanwhile, Maxwell’s trial date has been set and yeah, it’s more than a year away. This is the opposite of the swift administration of justice. It’s justice delayed (going all the way back to when Acosta gave Epstein a sweetheart deal despite all the evidence pointing to a massive child sex trafficking operation, child rape, and other heinous acts):

10MM lost? That’s only 20MM less than Trump has vaporized (and that’s a fairly rosy number based on current COVID trends).

I’ll also add, part of the problem with ICE is that our immigration laws are very outdated and stupid. The fact that we haven’t had major reform since the Reagan administration is stupider than the stupid that is Trump’s misadministration of immigration law.

Granted, I’m as close as you can get to being an open border advocate, but even if we aren’t going to go that far, can we at least not rely on a system older than Windows?

All they’re asking for is “equal protection under the law.”

As was promised, in writing, more than 150 years ago. Passed by 2/3 majority in both House and Senate, then ratified by 3/4 of the States.

Seems like a pretty mild ask. Should’ve been a gimme, shouldn’t have needed massive protest rallies in all 50 states and a dozen foreign capitals.

But they’re also forcing the targets to spend money that would go to just causes (like trolling Nunes in the cases of the Devin Nunes cow case, or the ADL going after bigots and extremists). Who’s funding these lawsuits in the first place?

It reeks of lawfare, with an attempt to silence those critics.

One solution would be to impose national anti-SLAPP suit. I’m sure that’ll go over great with the tort reform crowd. /heh.

“illegal island building”

whut?

South China Sea has a group of atolls and islands that are barely above sea level. Spratly Islands are one such group, and the area is claimed by six countries, including China. China has furthered their claims by engineering structures on two of these atolls, so that they can have a “stronger” claim.

The US has engaged in freedom of seas navigation missions by sailing within the area China claims as theirs.

The “building” part really stood out.

Yes: several of these “islands” were basically just reefs or shoals, and the Chinese (mainly via their military) have spent years of labor and a ton of money hauling rocks, dirt, concrete, etc. out to sea to literally “build” them into “islands”, and then usually built military installations on top of them.

Under the Law Of The Sea (which the US has never ratified, btw), countries’ “territorial waters” are defined by their proximity to the country: however, a nation planting new “territory” in the middle of the ocean kind of raises a bunch of questions.

The last few decades the US has had this probably not good practice of signing treaties but not ratifying them. the Law of the Sea Treaty is one such, where we are a signatory to the agreement, but it has never been sent to the Senate for ratification.

if you are an honest civil servant and want to do a good job, you have to play the word games that Fauci unfortunately has had to play. If you’re blunt and honest with the public, you’re forced out or otherwise sidelined because Trump can’t stand hearing that he is wrong. And if you’re forced out, then you’re replaced by someone incompetent and/or willing to lie for Trump (so either incompetent in fact or in practice), which is a net public negative.
