In Which Ivanka Trump Blatantly Violates Executive Branch Standards of Ethical Conduct

Politics • Views: 24,962

In today’s example of the simply stunning corruption of the Trump crime family, we give you Ivanka Trump, doing the culture war boogaloo with a can of beans.

Ivanka Trump is an official government employee, and when her new job was announced in 2017, she said some words about being aware of the ethical requirements of her new position.

In a statement, she says she was voluntarily complying with all ethics rules, but was aware of the concerns about advising her father in a personal capacity.

“I will instead serve as an unpaid employee in the White House Office, subject to all of the same rules as other federal employees. Throughout this process I have been working closely and in good faith with the White House Counsel and my personal counsel to address the unprecedented nature of my role,” she said.

So of course, here she is blatantly violating the standards of ethical conduct for executive branch employees.

(c) Endorsements. An employee shall not use or permit the use of his Government position or title or any authority associated with his public office to endorse any product, service or enterprise…

This is far from the first ethics violation committed by the gang of entitled criminals in the White House; in fact, there are too many violations to count at this point.

UPDATE at 7/15/20 11:40:21 am by Charles Johnson

And now Ivanka’s criminal father is joining her in this blatant fuck you to government ethics. Just posted on Instagram:

Kareem is who we need right now.

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar: Where Is the Outrage Over Anti-Semitism in Sports and Hollywood?

Recent incidents of anti-Semitic tweets and posts from sports and entertainment celebrities are a very troubling omen for the future of the Black Lives Matter movement, but so too is the shocking lack of massive indignation. Given the New Woke-fulness in Hollywood and the sports world, we expected more passionate public outrage. What we got was a shrug of meh-rage.

When reading the dark squishy entrails of popular culture, meh-rage in the face of sustained prejudice is an indisputable sign of the coming Apatholypse: apathy to all forms of social justice. After all, if it’s OK to discriminate against one group of people by hauling out cultural stereotypes without much pushback, it must be OK to do the same to others. Illogic begets illogic.

Ice Cube’s June 10 daylong series of tweets, which involved some creepy symbols and images, in general implied that Jews were responsible for the oppression of blacks. NFL player DeSean Jackson tweeted out several anti-Semitic messages, including a quote he incorrectly thought was from Hitler (not your go-to guy for why-can’t-we-all-get-along quotes) stating that Jews had a plan to “extort America” and achieve “world domination.” Isn’t that SPECTRE’s job in James Bond movies?

There is just widespread looting going on. The GOP and RWNJs are like the eunuchs in that scene from The Last Emperor, just yanking out all the crown jewels and setting the place on fire on their way out.

How can you tell Republicans are panicking?
They send the head of their party out to wear a mask in public, using veterans and Walter Reed Hospital as a prop.

They put out ads with bullshit about the police taking FIVE DAYS to respond to a call because scarrry Joe Biden is going to close down ALL the police stations in America.

They use Sleepy Joe Biden as an insult and double down on him being too old for the job when their candidate is two years younger.

They still cry and whine and fear monger about Clintons when no one named Clinton is running for any office anywhere.

(there’s more, but I think we all know several bullshit talking points they pull out of their asses daily. The latest on Facebook is how creepy and pervy Joe is, every fucking post from the Biden campaign is loaded with that shit)

Uh, don’t. Any UV lamps that are strong enough to kill bacteria and viruses will crisp skin, cause melanomas, damage eyesight etc. They’ll also fade and damage fabrics and degrade plastic materials that aren’t stabilised specifically against ultraviolet.

There are basically two types of UV lamps being sold, UV-A and UV-C. The second type, UV-C is very energetic and dangerous, the first is blue-ish and not any good at killing bacteria and viruses but by the time you find out they have your money and like any good Ferengi they will not give it back.

A bearded Manxman on Youtube, name of Big Clive has a number of videos regarding these lamps. His most informative one on the subject is called “Awesome flesh-burning death lamp. (Germicidal UV)” just to give you an idea.

I live in the Denver area and played in my co-rec adult soccer league for the first time in close to a year (everything closed just as the season was about to resume from the Winter offseason). The league had a far more comprehensive COVID policy that anything seen at the federal level. Everyone had to already be listed on the roster. Temp checks for everyone entering the field. Teams reduced from 11 to 10 players, with no more than 2 subs (so 24 people between the teams).

Not sure if these restrictions come from the state level or just reasonably smart people in charge of the league (I think it’s the former). Obviously still some risk associated with this, but that would be something that could have easily slipped through the cracks. Glad to live somewhere that gives a shit.

Maybe: but I think Maine has ranked voting for Senator, so even if Gideon doesn’t break 50% on her own, secondary choices (which are presumed unlikely to favor Sen. Collins) will put her over the top in any case.

538’s polling average has Biden up by 8.8%. There are two outliers, it seems to me, which are Rasmussen which shows him up by only 3 (they’ve had Biden up by double digits in recent days), and Quinnipiac, which has Biden up by 15.

It still isn’t enough.

If Biden were up by 20 now, it wouldn’t be enough.

4 days of intense fires is likely to cause significant structural issues. It may take months or even years to repair those damaged areas, and the question becomes whether it’s more cost effective to build new or scrap it.

Cost for the ship was $1.5 billion, so they’ll have to take a good look at what it might cost to repair and whether it’s worth it.

Trumpists are know nothing cult members and the GOP is all in with Trump, unless we see a clear repudiation of Trump in coming weeks (we aren’t, and I’m not holding my breath).

GOP delenda est, and Democrats need to exercise 50 state strategy and contest every election for every seat, to treat every race as if they’re 5 down even if polls show them 10 up. Make this such a blowout that no one questions the outcome. Retaking the Senate is critical to this too.

“Overhaul” seems a bit of an understatement (possibly): given the extent/intensity of any hull/frame/superstructure damage from the fires, I’ve seen it estimated that repairing BHR back to deployment-ready condition may take several years at the minimum:
otherwise see #68 lawhawk.

Dear god— Trump is J. Wellington Wimpy.

Hamburgers are Wimpy’s all-time favorite food, and he is usually seen carrying or eating one or more at a time - e.g., in Popeye the Sailor Meets Sindbad the Sailor he is seen grinding meat or eating burgers almost the entire time - however, he is usually too cheap to pay for them himself. A recurring joke involves Wimpy’s attempts to con other patrons of the diner owned by Rough House into buying his meal for him. His best-known catchphrase started in 1931 as, “Cook me up a hamburger. I’ll pay you Tuesday.” In 1932, this then became the famous “I’ll gladly pay you Tuesday for a hamburger today”.[5] Rough House explains why Wimpy is able to get away with this tactic in one strip, stating that “He never comes around on Tuesday”.

Anthony Fauci isn’t about to quit, despite the White House’s clumsy attempts to stain his public image. More so now than at any other point in their uneasy partnership, it seems that if President Donald Trump wants to be rid of Fauci, he’ll need to fire him. In recent days especially, the White House has stepped up efforts to discredit Fauci, a move he describes as “bizarre.”

“Ultimately, it hurts the president to do that,” Fauci told The Atlantic in a series of interviews this week. “When the staff lets out something like that and the entire scientific and press community push back on it, it ultimately hurts the president.”

He described the White House attacks against him as “nonsense” and “completely wrong.” He also seemed dismayed that they are coming at a time when COVID-19 is surging across the country, deaths are once again rising, and Americans remain deeply confused about how to keep themselves and their loved ones safe.

And he was yelling and breathing all over the produce department on his adventure.I also appeared the first cop didn’t have his nose covered, but at least he had the mask.

I was at Kroger today, I’d say there was about 75 percent of people wearing masks which was up from the last time I went, 10 days ago. Kroger has a polite sign asking to wear them, but there’s no enforcement or actual requirement. It appears masks will be mandatory for entry to the stores a week from today. Why not today? I seriously hope they have security in place, people around here love their guns and there’s a lot of Trumpers on the loose all the time. I’ve been shopping at this store since it opened, over 20 yrs ago, and I support them because they used to deal with my son’s sensory meltdowns and never once asked me to leave, and they hire adults on the autism spectrum and with other disabilities. There’s also a Gold Star mom who works as the customer service lead and when her son was killed in Afghanistan, the employees gave her their time off hours so she could bury her son and grieve. So I have emotional attachments to that location.

And governments can choose to hyperinflate said currency with the stroke of a pen. Crypto appeals to some precisely because it’s free of government interface, at least in theory.
I’m not a crypto evangelist, and I think that the whole Bitcoin experiment will end poorly, but there are many legitimate uses for anonymous transactions. Just because you’re not doing anything illegal, doesn’t mean that you want a paper trail that any bank or government can follow. Additionally, it’s a PITA to send money to certain countries due to various controls, even if it’s to a relative or for a perfectly benign reason; crypto makes sense in those cases.

Roger Stone is an insufferable fuck.

Roger Stone on Wednesday accused two top House allies of President Donald Trump of privately advocating against Trump’s decision to keep him out of prison last week.

House GOP Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) and Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-N.Y.) were among those who advised Trump to consider avoiding clemency for Stone ahead of the 2020 election, worrying it could be bad politics for Republicans, Stone said during an appearance on a podcast hosted by fellow Trump supporter Charlie Kirk.

“Congressman Matt Gaetz from my home state of Florida, who I know was out there when Kevin McCarthy and Elise Stefanik were arguing against any clemency for Roger Stone because it might cost the Republicans seats,” Stone said as he listed those who supported his bid to stay out of jail despite his conviction on charges of lying to congressional investigators probing Russian interference in the 2016 election. “I know that Matt Gaetz was standing tall, both privately and in public, on my behalf.” Source: Politico

Gilles said she’s unable to wear a mask, citing a 2015 pelvic exam for ovarian cysts and a hand-written note from an anonymous chiropractor, according to the station.

Well, I’m convinced. She went on:

“One of them I get shortness of breath, dizziness and it messes with the heartbeat,” Gilles said, KGTV reported. “And I do have asthma as well, and I do get mask-acne. So there’s several things going on and not only that but it doesn’t even work.”

And she’s the mother of three and, of course, a self-described anti-vaxxer.

“It starts with coffee but it ends with digital certificates and forced vaccinations,” Gilles said

So, that awful woman who went after the Starbuck’s barista is still whining (she wants half of the $105,000 tip he’s received so far.) Here’s her very logical explanation for why she couldn’t wear a mask:

A reminder, Collateralized Debt Obligations (CDO) still exist, and are now heavily weighted with small business debt.
So, you can bet people a shorting the hell out of them. And, I certainly hope there is more control and transparency of the credit default swaps purchased against them. Though, since it’s been over a decade, probably not.

1. A whole lot of cryptocurrency transactions are used for illegal purposes.
2. There are plenty of ways to send money electronically that don’t end up in a government ledger, venmo for instance.
3. There are legitimate reasons for the government to see a lot of transactions, such as when a company gets paid, or an individual gets paid for services, so that they can charge taxes to fund the government.

Ha. This morning I woke up too early and went downstairs to see if I could get back to sleep on the sofa. The dog (looks like Jack) jumped off her bed to lie at the end of the sofa on the other side so that my head was on one arm and hers on the other side of the sofa. At some point, she stretched out and stuck her paw into my ass. I would swat it away, and then she’d do it again. And Again. I finally had to go back upstairs by which time my wife was up, and, well I felt guilty going back to sleep. I’m going to bed soon.

True, but at least in the modern world, currency is backed by the full faith and credit of governments.

There have been and are basket cases, like Zimbabwe under Mugabe, or Weimar Germany which have printed their way into bigger problems. Do you think that Trump wouldn’t print money if he felt it was to his benefit (Say, to make his debts worthless, or purely out of spite if he lost in a crushing defeat that he couldn’t rig his way out of?)

I saw this, and I thought, “Is Moore trying to wrest back the title of Trump’s Dumbest Economic Adviser from Peter Navarro?” I mean, the $600 UI boost is the only thing keeping a lot of families whole, because their jobs don’t currently exist, nor are they likely to exist by November. So taking a bunch of people who can’t find jobs and removing $2400/month from them, and watch what happens to the already disastrously low demand.

He must think the only thing that’s keeping them from their low paying jobs is that sweet UI, and not the fact that most of the places they work are closed.

well here’s a disturbing thought… say they don’t extend those UI benefits, states go on lockdown, but people still get evicted, throughout say August or September etc… then these people lose residency, how do they get registered wherever their new place is? a shelter? with family? not enough time to file the paperwork and get the databases updated….. The GOP mans the polls and says I’m sorry, you can’t vote here because you’re not a resident.

Venmo doesn’t work outside of the US. PayPal is not available everywhere. Wire transfers and Western Union are sometimes a pain (IBAN vs SWIFT, etc) and carry unreasonable fees. Yes, crypto is often used for illicit purposes; so is cash, so are cars. They’re all just tools. I know a number of folks who are professional gamblers (actually make money betting on sports or in casinos, file their IRS taxes as professional gamblers, etc.) Crypto has been a godsend to them because US banks and credit card companies either won’t or can’t do business with offshore sports books. It’s not illegal for a US citizen to place a bet with a betting site in Curacao or Malta, but good luck getting your money into that account without crypto or flying there with a suitcase of cash. Crypto fills a legitimate need for many people.

That’s a lot more thinking than I’d give Moore credit for. I think he just believes that The Working Class won’t go back to work unless they’re forced to by starvation, and then they’ll reelect Trump for bringing back the economy.

Krugman think’s Moore is basically stupid, and I’ve never seen any evidence to the contrary.

Here’s the funny thing about Cryptocurrency — it’s pretty much the best way to get patterns of money transfers out into the open. Regardless of what is commonly believed, transactions are 100% public, everyone has access to the database, the big exchangers (coinbase, etc) have customer information, and at some point bitcoin has a nexus into the financial system, so even if initially bitcoin addresses are anonymous, one can work one’s way from a known actor to a target…

The Lincoln Project knows what they’re doing.

Except for using “EST” where they should have said “EDT.”

I don’t know *why* that grinds my gears as much as it does, but it DOES.

I’ve been much more cognizant of this when working with co-workers in GMT and IST.

Actually, maybe I do know… it’s because I had family in Indiana in the days when parts of the state were on EST in the summer, other parts were on EDT, and one corner was on CDT, and you never really knew whether you’d be an hour early or late when you tried calling there.

re: #415 i(m)p(each)sos

I remember that headache. Especially being in the corner that was on CDT, trips to literally any other place in the state required nearly professional levels of planning to arrive on time.

Two corners, wasn’t it? Northwest Indiana that stayed on Chicago time - and isn’t the Evansville area on Central Time, too?

That sounds about right, I don’t remember as much about the southern part of the state but it tracks.
