I was wondering when we’d get a fresh thread to discuss how Trump is first to worst in every possible way. He’s actively sabotaging our security and safety - he couldn’t do worse in pandemic response if he tried. His foreign policy continually inures benefit to Russia, and today’s actions to suggest the US is withdrawing troops from Germany and relocating them to Italy and Belgium over Germany’s “nonpayment of NATO funds” is more bulkshit on a stick that ignores that isn’t how NATO is funded - but Trump’s going to commit billions to moving our troops and undermining our security posture in Europe while Russia improves theirs.

Well, we’re leaving for a long weekend in the mountains tomorrow. But, it’s a vacation rental, we’re taking all our own food, etc. and sadly, will be without our kids, their significant others, and our granddaughter because Covid. I think we’ll be safe and have fun, but it’s going to be a very different trip than the one we had planned.

More than a third of the population of Chile lives in ust one very large urban conglomeration. Chile is large in one dimension, and has a lot of farming, the rural areas likely have very limited access to medical care.

I finally received 2 packages this afternoon that according to the UPS webpage were on the truck for delivery LAST WEDNESDAY. Each day the UPS webpage said they were out for delivery until 9PM when the webpage changed to saying they were being “prepared for delivery”.

I personally think the government should build a dorm for Congressional members to stay at if they want. Someone I know chatted up his UPS driver recently and he said that they just couldn’t cope with the volume of deliveries they have and things are “chaotic.”
I don’t order a lot of stuff, but the USPS deliveries have tended to be delayed from when they originally say they’ll arrive.
Our wine club is local and they’ve taken up just having one of their employees do the local deliveries in a van.
On the other hand, my brother says business deliveries have been pretty much as usual.
So, take your choice.

God Red Rocks is beautiful. I feel so blessed to have seen so many cool ass bands at that venue. I hope many of our fellow lizards have been there because it’s one of the greatest concert venues in the world.

When I worked (way back when) near the Pentagon, I rented a place in MD and did the commute. Arlington county would have been much closer, but it was cheaper to live in MD.
The Republicans’ hate of mass transit has kept them from investing in a DC regional train system, as can be found in most major capitols of the world. The DC metro, as it was, certainly was useful (when I was there) but there is no where near enough rail lines going to where people live (in VA and MD.)
Living in Japan really spoiled me, I guess. Just think: leaders who really try to make urban areas work rather than just shit on them (i.e. Trump.)

I agree 100%. It is costly to maintain 2 residences — it’s not just the rent, but furniture, utilities, transportation, and often weekly travel between one’s home district and D.C. The suggestion of a dormitory sounds like a reasonable alternative.

After work I used to spend some time in Georgetown and found a nice little coffee shop at which to hang out. I couldn’t afford to live in that neighborhood (only lobbyists and independently wealthy types, or foreign government employees, etc.) could afford to live there.
So I realize there will always be those Congress folk for whom their salary is an important part of their annual income and as such they simply can’t afford to live in DC.
At least in the neighborhoods in which they’d feel comfortable.
Living across the river in the convenient parts of Arlington is also expensive, as is the MD side of the river.
But there are many places around DC where one can afford to rent if one only has a merely mortal income.
Someone like Romney can afford to live anywhere. Many Senators are very rich. Some of the Representatives are pretty wealthy too.
Yet I want to believe that anyone in the US ought to be able to run for Congress, which means non-wealthy folk should be able to run for Congress.

I personally think the government should build a dorm for Congressional members to stay at if they want. Because you are required to keep a home residence - it is your home residence, after all - and pay for something in Washington. $175K would be comfortable living here in Dallas, not wealthy, but comfortable, but having to pay for a second place to sleep would add to that.
It’s a good idea. Long-stay suites with kitchen facilities, perhaps different sizes to allow families. A lot of well-off reps and senators will opt for their own places, especially the multi-term ‘lifers,’ but it would be a good option to have.
I like Jaunte’s suggestion that the Trump DC Hotel could be retrofitted once his Org goes bankrupt and his spawn go to jail or flee the country.
