Full Episode: Probably the Last Interview Jonathan Swan Ever Gets With the Liar in the White House [VIDEO]

Politics • Views: 21,013

YouTube

It seems extraordinary, but all Jonathan Swan is actually doing in this interview is slowing things down as Trump begins his high-velocity lying, asking him to back up his absurd lies and delusional boasting with evidence. Which he, of course, cannot. Watch Swan’s face as he reacts to the deluge of dishonesty.

The question I had after getting through this: why in the world is it so rare for journalists to hold this repulsive narcissist’s feet to the fire? It certainly isn’t difficult!

On the return of Axios on HBO, Axios National Political Correspondent, Jonathan Swan, speaks with President Donald Trump about multiple topics including the coronavirus crisis, the Black Lives Matter movement, the November election, and U.S. Foreign Policy in Afghanistan, China, and Russia. Axios On HBO airs Mondays at 11pm. #HBO #AxiosOnHBO

Because as you mentioned in the title of this thread, it is probably the last interview he will ever have with Trump.

Swan was a master class on preparation and interviewing skills of Trump. He called him out on nearly every lie and bulkshit preparation, but it got overwhelming at times because that’s all Trump does do. He doesn’t care about facts and just moves on.

Of course, we’re dealing with Isias in the NYC metro area and we’ve had lights flickering for better part of last 2 hours… so if I go dark, that’s why.

How did he get this interview to start with? Who thought this was a good idea on team trump? I’m quite curious about that.

He has a narrative that he needs to push on us: go back to school , get back to work, crack down on lawless anarchists, voting by mail is fraught with fraud, etc.

His base will see him as combative and on topic. He wants things reopened and pointed to things he thinks warrants reopening. Mind you they’re bulkshit and doesn’t pass the smell test, but that’s quite besides the point. Trump’s sycophantic supporters aren’t any more intelligent than he is. They might think that this is good for him.

But the reality is that there’s no good news in any of this for Trump. The body count keeps rising and he refuses to accept responsibility for any of it.

Israel had covid19 outbreak under control until they reopened schools. Once that happened, all hell broke loose and cases exploded across the country.

They reopened too fast and too soon without necessary guidelines in place to prevent spread and to shut down once cases identified.

It was a shit show, and even Bibi’s supporters are seeing how awful he handled things.

He is definitely not insane; he knows that his followers accept everything he says and he can contradict himself without fear of losing his base. After all, we have always been at war with Eastasia. Question the sanity of those who believe in him, but he has gotten away with this his entire life and he has no reason to think that this time it’s different. White supremacy was at the heart of this nation’s origins and he epitomizes the return to those values. How anyone can continue to support him in the time of the pandemic is beyond reason — but his supporters are fanatics and contemptuous of minorities and the fact that minorities are more at risk from the pandemic is probably a plus for them.

That’s why it’s not enough to be seen as “not racist”. A lot of people who present as “not racist” aren’t actually not racist, they just don’t speak it out loud. They are willing to condone it actively or tacitly through their actions though.

You have to be actively anti-racist, actually fighting racism through your voice and actions.

I don’t know about amplification, but our experience with digital signals and an antenna is that if a station drops off your reception, you should rescan all your channels. I think the receiver sometimes just loses the weaker stations. The other reason they disappear is when they change the frequency, but they usually warn you about that, and of course, rescanning fixes that too.

We haven’t had cable in years, but had really good cable where we stayed on our recent trip. Things on cable have certainly gone downhill. Way, way too many channels to sort through and virtually nothing to watch.
Unfortunately it was a pretty rural area and their PBS station didn’t have the plethora of great programs (and additional digital channels) we do down here.

Deaths to number of cases is a metric that tells you how well our health care experts are doing in saving lives of cases that enter hospitals.

Deaths to your population (or to per 100k/1 million as in per capita) is a metric showing how well you’re doing in keeping your citizens safe from getting covid19 and dying.

We’re doing better on the former than the latter, but that’s an uneven metric as some states are doing better than others depending on what populations were hard hit.

Crazy weather here.

The rain has mostly stopped, as what’s left of the eye has moved out near Allentown PA, according to my radar app. But the wind - we’ve got snapped branches all over our yard, and our new next door neighbor had the entire top of one of their trees snap off and land in their yard. And two houses over, a big branch has broken partially off a tall tree and is hanging over another neighbor’s house.

A friend in NYC says it’s calmed down there now, and we should have another hour of high winds. Can’t get done soon enough for me - these high winds are making me nervous.

I remain concerned, especially with data no longer being transmitted to the CDC, that our statistics may be understating COVID-19 cases/deaths based on a deliberate intent to conceal information (especially in red states which may be more attune to hiding the truth) to promote continued opening of the economy and schools. Trump admitted he ordered a slowdown of testing so we wouldn’t have so many cases; if a person dies without ever being tested, they may not should up in any of these statistics. Was the effort at change that Trump references the effort to restore voting rights to felons who have been paroled? And the fact that those who are poor are still being deprived of these rights through the Florida poll tax?

One of the unfortunate side effects of Dems losing so many down ballot elections (and Brown’s return to the governor’s office in 2010 along with Fienstein deciding not to retire) is that the bench was basically empty in 2016 for the presidential election. I do actually believe it. Murkowski is one of the few Rs remaining who has any conception of the value of long-term strategy versus immediate short-term gain. The question isn’t whether she’d vote against it. The question is whether she could pull Romney and Collins (or any of the retiring Rs like Lamar!) along for a vote that would improve the way history views them at the expense of immediately cramming a new conservative justice on to the court.

I do, but with a caveat…

Their internal polls are probably making it pretty clear that Biden is going to win the presidency, that the Dems are going to hold the House, and likely win the Senate. They also know that Dems are more likely to completely nuke the filibuster. That means, forcing a last minute judicial appointment only ramps up the odds of Dems passing a bill expanding the size of the Supreme Court (and possibly/probably the lower courts).

So, this is an olive branch to avoid a court packing move by the Dems.

I’m on the record as saying that we should expand the Supreme Court. I think one Justice per Circuit makes sense. That’s 13 seats if you count the DC Circuit and the Federal Circuit as separate (also, interesting side question on DC statehood, what becomes of the DC Circuit?). So, 4 new seats - the easiest way to sell it is that you add one seat per year over four years, with a presidential election in the middle (2023, 2024, 2025 and 2026).

The lower courts also need to be expanded, but that’s probably an easier sell than the Supreme Court because most people don’t know much about the lower courts. But I think any court expansion/reform needs to include a major revision of the Federal Arbitration Act by allowing appeals of arbitration awards and/or striking binding arbitration.

Actually, during my induction and safety training brief a long time back at a Certain Place, they showed us a diagram-slash-map of what happened to two people who mis-handled a large piece of high explosive material, nothing so moderate as dynamite or simple nitrate compounds. They only found one head, and as the safety briefing officer explained (I paraphrase here) “That’s quite a trick, the human head is one of the more resilient parts of the human body, what with the skull and all.”

Sorcerer is a great film. It is a remake of a french film which is also great.

The Wages of Fear (French: Le salaire de la peur) is a 1953 French-Italian thriller film directed by Henri-Georges Clouzot, starring Yves Montand, and based on the 1950 French novel Le salaire de la peur (lit. “The Salary of Fear”) by Georges Arnaud. When an oil well owned by an American company catches fire, the company hires four European men, down on their luck, to drive two trucks over mountain dirt roads, loaded with nitroglycerine needed to extinguish the flames. The film brought Clouzot international fame—winning both the Golden Bear and the Palme d’Or at the 1953 Berlin Film Festival and Cannes Film Festival, respectively—and enabled him to direct Les Diaboliques. In France, it was the fourth highest-grossing film of the year with a total of 6,944,306 admissions.[2]

This is interesting so I did a little googling.

And in the 1880s, a tattooing craze developed in elite society after it became known that various members of the nobility and royalty, both male and female, had acquired tattoos, including Edward, Prince of Wales and Prince Albert Victor, his eldest son. Source

In 1862 Albert, the Prince of Wales, later King Edward VII, had a Jerusalem Cross tattooed on his arm on a visit to the Holy Land. When his sons, the Duke of Clarence and the Duke of York (later King George V) visited Japan in 1882 they both had dragons tattooed on their arms. Source

Here is the answer!

rollingstone.com

Point of order: this is not an answer, this is a record of what happened. (Still useful info.)

What it doesn’t answer is why JFK Jr. was chosen by the people manipulating this Q nonsense, and why the idea of the returning son of the fallen king has resonated in the (admittedly bizarre) echo chamber which is the Q movement.

To be fair, to answer the question, you’d have to work out what that movement is. It could be, IMO:

1. 8chan assholes run utterly amok with shitposting.
2. A willingness of the low-intelligence deplorables to believe anything that gets said in a vaguely conspiratorial fashion.
3. A willingness of the deplorables in general to amplify anything that seems like it might piss off or (better) scare the libs.
4. A (god help me) Stand Alone Complex. Yes, I know. No, really; so far as such a thing can become reality.
5. A willingness of the Trump Admin and associated scum to amplify anything that makes a good meme to piss off the libs.
6. Opportunistic Russian ratfucking.

Of course, it’s probably all of them. 1 activates 2 which leads to 3, 4 kicks in as 5 starts getting serious, with 6 slathered all over for good measure.

And almost all of them - even #2! - could have successfully injected the JFK Jr. nonsense, just all for different reasons.

Someone’s going to write an ultimate Q novel in the next few years - it’ll rank right with the Illuminati Trilogy, only 80 IQ points dumber.

Also, from my favorite Q story:
JFK Jr. didn’t die! He runs QAnon! And he’s No. 1 Trump fan, omg!!!

…not only is JFK Jr. a key player in the QAnon conspiracy, he is Trump’s secret 4chan spokesman — Q himself.

This is, admittedly, an advanced theory. It’s so advanced that it took a popular QAnon researcher an hour and a half to explain it in a way that made any sense. We assume. We didn’t get to the end of the video…

Fortunately, Q’s scholars have turned up compelling visual evidence: JFK Jr’s grave looks like a Q…Certain minor complications later cropped up, including: Q returned from hiatus and denounced R. Also, that is not actually a picture of John F. Kennedy Jr.’s gravesite. But these are mere thorns in the white rabbit’s paw. We can all see the general gist of the truth.

One thing that makes JFK Jr. useful to conspira-liars is the absence of a body that could potentially furnish final, definitive proof of his death (he was cremated and the ashes scattered at sea). I doubt that any judge would really order an exhumation even if the body were available, but you never know. In the 80s, some conspiracy quack convinced a judge to order the exhumation of Lee Harvey Oswald on the grounds that the body in the grave was an impostor and the real Lee had been spirited away to some mysterious government facility. It took a team of pathologists and anthropologists about a minute and a half to determine that the guy in the grave was the real Lee. In any case, an actual body would serve as an ultimate deterrent to claims of John Jr.’s survival.

Sixty-nine percent of respondents who identify as Republicans or Republican-leaning trust Trump on the virus, compared to 29 percent who don’t. Thirty-two percent of the same respondents said they trust Fauci, while 38 percent trust the CDC.

When the bottom dropped out on GWB in 2007-8, he dropped under 70% among Republicans. Bush was in the 65-70% range among Republicans between March and September 2008. His lowest approval among Republicans was 55% in early October of that year. That was over all approval, but let’s be honest, at this point, approval on the coronavirus is approval on everything for Trump.

They are really bad at this…

Shot:

[Embedded content]

They don’t realize they’re negotiating against themselves. They have no idea how to bring Republicans along on a deal, nor have they been able to triangulate a middle ground. At this point, the only way the shit show could get shittier or showier is if Trump barged in and screamed “and I call it The Aristocrats!” while naked and covered in green jello.

I’ve no doubt that they’re just following Donny’s lead, as it’s been reported multiple times that his favored type of “negotiation” when he lacks leverage is to make a big scene about walking away from the talks, then sending in his underlings with the “threat” that he won’t deal unless he gets the terms he wants. The overall goal of such a tactic is to scare the other side into agreeing to unfavorable terms due to “fear” that they’ll get no deal otherwise.

The problem with such an obvious ploy? It only really works if the other side feels they need to make a deal. When he’s found himself against an opponent that knows they have all the cards and are willing to let him walk, he quickly drops the act and starts begging for whatever “good” terms he can get, figuring he can just renege on the contract later when it suits him and dare his “partner” to sue him over it.

Right now, Trump has no leverage, both sides know it, but he still thinks he can “win” by threatening to just walk away from the table and enforce his will through other means. But he’s not negotiating a real estate transaction, he’s fucking around with the lives of tens of millions of Americans and the entire economy. Letting him get his way, if only to move past the matter, is not an option for the Dems. Not if they want to win in November.

I remember those Nokia brick phones that could take some serious punishment. I had one that got run over by a car once. The plastic casing was destroyed but the phone itself worked just fine.

I had an old Nokia phone that once dropped straight down a 4 floor escalator gap. Fell the whole way down, hit the bottom, the plastic cover went flying off, and the battery detached, bounced and landed almost 50 feet away. I panicked as I made my way down (they were crazy expensive to replace at the time), picked it up, picked up the battery, plugged it in and was shocked to find that it worked like it was in my pocket the whole time.
For a moment I wondered if I’d hallucinated the whole thing, until my GF at the time came down after me and asked “how bad is it? Do you think it can be fixed”? I still remember the look on her face as she saw me answer by calling and talking with a good friend over the phone as though nothing had happened.

Those old devices were built to LAST.

The Texas City explosion involved about 2100 tons of AN. There were 96 men, firefighters and sailors, still aboard the SS Grandcamp or on the dock next to it when it blew up. Not a single identifiable trace of any of them was ever found.

The firefighters and others who were right at the scene in Beirut are gone. DNA science may yield some death certificates but that’s about it.

According to wingnut dogma, if companies didn’t have to deal with all those regulations, they’d have all this money to expand and hire more workers.

Meanwhile, in the real world, abolishing regulations has only resulted in greater company profits while the workforce shrinks as fewer workers are deemed “necessary.”

In wingnut fantasies, a warehouse that has 50 workers with “common sense” could do away with all the “waste” of employing 50 people whose job it is to monitor operations and regularly file reports and replace those jobs with 50 more workers who could do double the work and thus double the profits for the company.

In the real world, that same company would instead fire the 50 monitors, then double the workload for the 50 workers because some exec citing bullshit statistics asserts that the company could “save” money by just refusing to pay the overtime necessary to get the same work done as before. Then when the overworked and underpaid workers begin to bitch, fire them and bring in workers without that “common sense” because they demand less. So that when the warehouse ends up a pothole due to a worker thinking that it makes no sense to keep so much space between pallets of explosive materials and that he can create “more space” by jamming things together, the company files an insurance claim and sends the families of the dead workers a fruit basket and their “condolences.”

Because why even lie at this point that it’s a shakedown? After all, who do we expect to do anything about it? Congress? The DOJ? The courts?

Can the Department of InJustice or Department of State or any other governmental agency actually interfere in this particular deal? Do they have legal authority to intervene and prevent the transaction if Microsoft just ignores them?

We know exactly how George Floyd died: He was restrained by an overly aggressive police officer, against training and department policy, for an inappropriate length of time, which led to respiratory or cardiac arrest. Whether or not that was exacerbated by pre-existing conditions is irrelevant. He died in the care of officers whose charge it was to serve and protect.

re: #170 KGxvi

I think adding a new circuit would make sense - split the 9th and/or 12th. DC remains a federal circuit even if DC gains statehood.

And it may be time to reconsider how the Federal Attorneys to the districts are picked.

They’re setting up an “Excited Delirium” defense, which is a supposed “syndrome” that only ever seems to crop up in cases of cops accused of excessive force and basically translates as “he got so wound up that he gave himself a heart attack.” No major medical association recognizes it as a legit “syndrome” and some have outright said it’s little more than BS meant as CYA for overly aggressive cops.

But it seems to work with juries, so they keep using it. Why? Because it generates just enough reasonable doubt as to the cause of death to let the cop walk.

re: #366 Dread Pirate Ron

There’s nothing stopping Saudi Arabia from buying as much yellowcake as they want on the open world market. Right now the spot price is $32.90 per lb. It’s a long LONG way from having yellowcake to making weapons from it — even Saddam Hussein had stocks of yellowcake (and there’s a long sordid story about what happened to those yellowcake stocks after the Allied invasion of Iraq in 2003).

The Saudi government is a signatory to the Non-Proliferation Treaty at the safeguard level i.e. international inspectors from the IAEA can inspect their declared facilities for breaches of the treaty’s strictures in terms of weapons development. Right now, as far as I can tell the only reactor being built in Saudi is a 30kw (thermal) academic research reactor which isn’t operational yet. They’ve been talking about building a large fleet of nuclear power reactors so they can sell more oil and gas abroad rather than burning it to generate electricity but nothing’s come of it.

So today we learn that nearly 60,000 Americans tested positive for covid19 and more than 1,300 Americans died of covid19.

That’s more Americans dying of covid19 than South Koreans who have died of covid19 since day 1 of pandemic. Trump’s adding more than 4 787 plane crashes worth of victims per day. Trump’s killing more than 250 Benghazis a day. We’re watching Trump kill 2 9/11s a week, and the GOP refuse to hold Trumpworld accountable. That makes them accountable. They want this outcome. They refuse to follow the health experts and they’re the ones who politicized masking.

They’re the ones pushing to reopen schools, which will be a total disaster because you shouldn’t be opening into a growing pandemic. Israel opened too fast too soon and went from having things under control to having a widespread outbreak.

Other countries have reopened but only after stopping covid19. Trump wont do any of that.

Sadly, it’s not just the Trumpists. Infection rates have been jumping for weeks, such that we’re registering 100+ new infections daily here in Va Beach. But there’s no suggestion at all of resuming the shutdowns, just mumbling about threatening business licenses and tinkering with the rules.

Fire in a dockside warehouse. Hundreds of little pops going off with lots of little flashes. Grey smoke, at first, then a HUGE explosion, big enough to expel an overpressure wave which compressed atmospheric moisture into Dog’s own Jiffy Pop water vapor corona. which expanded with the pressure wave until it punched into the City. The resulting cloud was an ugly, ragged, red/brown/black color.

I don’t think it was an ammonium nitrate explosion. The West, Texas Fertilizer exploded as volunteer firefighters doused it with water. 15 dead. Black and white smoke when it blew, the white from the ammonium nitrate, the black from the burning building above it that was atomized.

What got me was the concrete building (right of center) disintegrating to dust as the blast wave hit it.
There are hundreds if not thousands of people dead in there.
