All the angles.

Sounds like a great use for the forever stamps I bought a few months ago that I won’t really ever use. I can use one stamp to mail another stamp to anyone who needs it, or I can donate them to Democratic voter drives to distribute them as they need to.

Caesar, better known as “Caesar the No Drama Llama,” is a retired 6-year-old Argentine grand champion show llama that now works as a therapy llama and “llamactivist.” One of his best talents is offering emotional-support hugs, which people line up to give him at protests and other places where Caesar shows up.

He’s somewhat of a celebrity llama. Source: WaPo

The only “generals” that would have said that are the Attorney General, the Surgeon General & the Postmaster General…and they have other things to do.

About those other things:

Attorney General: Destroy the rule of law.
Surgeon General: Keep up with Trump’s batshit crazy ‘rona cures.
Postmaster General: Slow down the mail to throw the election into chaos and generally destroy the US Postal Service.

Bezos isn’t going to win this war. And while I would love Jeff to do it to annoy Trump, I certainly don’t want “Bezos is trying to buy the election” coming from either direction, and you know the far left will scream it just as much as the right.

I was watching a hockey game with my brother over at mom’s house (yes, we’re speaking again) and a cdc.gov commercial came on. It advised people to keep their distance, stay out of crowds and wash their hands.

I turned to my brother and said, “What didn’t it mention?”

He said, “Masks. It didn’t mention masks.”

I hate the Trump administration, it is as corrupt as the day is long!

I could probably draw up a pretty good argument that requiring postage for voters on mail in ballots constitutes a poll tax. Little bit harder to make the argument re: costs for the states in sending out ballots, but it’s probably worth raising if someone were to challenge it.

Man who pointed sniper rifle at crowd at Weatherford protests arrested, deputies say

A man who pointed a sniper rifle at crowds during a protest in Weatherford on July 25 was arrested by the Parker County Sheriff’s Department on Tuesday, authorities said.

Guy Napoli, an Aledo resident, set up a rifle on top of the cab of a pickup truck near the Parker County Courthouse lawn where protesters and counter-protesters were gathered, police said. Protesters were there to demand the removal of a Confederate statue, and counter-protesters showed up to defend it.

Contrast with one of the thousands of eyewitness accounts that document the real behavior of these demented fascists.
LGF, 27 June 2013

Lubbock has one abortion provider and they perform these services just one day a week. The security guards arrive early, with shotguns in plain sight, followed shortly by the staff and a regular mob of loafers who stand across the street waving signs and screaming abuse at anyone within earshot, including the terrified teenagers who make up the majority of the clients.

I’ve mentioned before that I know one of those security guards. The clinic just closed and I just talked to him. He said the protesters were more aggressive than usual today, despite the 105 degree heat. One of the regular agitators, a fundy preacher who looks remarkably like the young Richard Nixon, ran halfway into the street where he started doing some sort of dance and making weird faces, like a deranged organ grinder’s monkey. Others challenged the guards to come over and fight. There were the usual curses, imprecations, and predictions of anal rape by demons once the “baby killers” arrive in hell. Some of them taunt staff, patients, and guards alike with the names of doctors assassinated by anti-abortion terrorists. The place is arranged to keep patients as far from the mob as possible, and out of sight, but they can still hear the demented cursing and chanting from the devoted Christians across the street.

This kind of insane theater plays out every day at hundreds of clinics around the country, with almost no attention from the media.

Trump speculates about the explosion in “that country” (he can’t remember the name of the country is Lebanon) that “some people say” is an attack and “some people say” is an accident

68
Eclectic Cyborg  Aug 5, 2020 • 3:21:06pm

Just another day in Donald Trumps America…

(Via NBC) White House health advisor Dr. Anthony Fauci said Wednesday that he and his family have required continued security in the face of harassment and death threats from people angry over his guidance on the coronavirus pandemic.

“The unseemingly things that crises bring out in the world, it brings out the best of people and the worst of people, and getting death threats to my family and harassing my daughters to the point where I have to get security — it’s amazing,” Fauci said in an interview with CNN’s Dr. Sanjay Gupta on Harvard’s School of Public Health website that was streamed on Facebook live.

Fauci, the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, has been assigned a beefed-up security team since at least early April after he and his family received serious threats over his work to mitigate the spread of the virus.

“I wouldn’t have imagined in my wildest dreams that people who object to things that are pure public health principles are so set against it and don’t like what you and I say, namely in the world of science, that they actually threaten you,” Fauci said.

“I mean, that to me is just strange,” he added.

Be angry with the man if you want, but leave his fucking kids alone, assholes.

NCAA cancelling Division II and III fall championships:

The cancellations affect football, men’s and women’s soccer, men’s and women’s cross country, field hockey, women’s volleyball and men’s water polo in both divisions.

The NCAA board of governors directed each division to make its own determination on whether to hold fall championships, and both came to the same conclusion and made announcements Wednesday.

Interestingly, there isn’t separate D-II and D-III championships for water polo, there’s a single tournament with all three divisions. So, I suspect the “non-revenue” D-I sports will be getting cancelled soon.

Also, earlier in the day, UCONN announced that it was cancelling it’s football season. They were slated to play as an independent this season.

I feel bad for the athletes. Years of training for such a small window of opportunity getting wasted because the government fucked shit up

In fairness (and I hate even having to be fair with him), he is right. The president and vice-president are exempt from the Hatch Act.

Granted, there are other issues involved with the president using the White House for campaign events, but since the only real check on the president is impeachment - and Congress doesn’t give a fuck - there isn’t much to be done other than to vote the bastard out.

It’s wingnut dogma that people only work when they’re faced with starvation/homelessness. Thus their explanation for the high UE rate is not that businesses either closed permanently or are closed due to lack of business, but because all the “lazy” people “got it too good” on UEI.

The whole reason they came up with the $600 figure to begin with is because if we were to process each person individually, verify their previous income, etc… it’s 40 million people. It would take hundreds of thousands of clerks several months. So they seized on $600, because that was the average and all the checks could go out quickly.

Dem leadership in the House has always struck me as fairly cool to the idea of holding Trump accountable. Yes, they went through with impeachment, but on the narrowest possible grounds, and haven’t made real attempts to hold hearings on a lot of his more egregious bullshit antics.

Granted, if they managed to pass 15 articles of impeachment, I’m sure that the Senate still would have voted to acquit, but it would have been a much better marker for history as to his corruption and grift if they would have started on January 3, 2019 and just plowed through all of it.

Of course, now they want to cut it to $200 until states can upgrade their UEI systems to pay every individual worker 70% of their former income.

Where does the money for that come from? Fuck you, that’s where.

F Pence. NY (city and state) made mistakes at the beginning. Our cases and our deaths are extremely low at present. And the rest of the #%$%$%$ country learned nothing from our experience. You are a worthless POS. I look forward to whomever is the VP pic to tear you apart during the debate (if your bitch of a wife let’s you out of the house you MFer).

The entire state only had 636 new cases and 5 deaths yesterday. You had the perfect opportunity to learn something. I truly believe that If Jesus came back he would bit the shit out of you. FT and FP.

yeah, okay, NY was 20% of the deaths because we got it first and worst. It had probably spread significant infections weeks before we had ANY deaths.

But now; other states are currently losing another more than a 1000 a day, and NYC hasn’t lost one in 3 days. Our continuing death toll Is somewhere around 5 a week.

So by the end of September, NY will be 12% of the national total.
By Election Day, NY will be 10% of the national total.

Christopher Hitchens was a neo-con and a bigot himself, but he summed it up:

Whenever I hear some bigmouth in Washington or the Christian heartland banging on about the evils of sodomy or whatever, I mentally enter his name in my notebook and contentedly set my watch. Sooner rather than later, he will be discovered down on his weary and well-worn old knees in some dreary motel or latrine, with an expired Visa card, having tried to pay well over the odds to be peed upon by some Apache transvestite.

He had his faults for sure. He supported the Iraq War. He volunteered to be waterboarded, and it changed his mind. When he got cancer, he told us all that it would be OK to speak ill of him after he died.

I still liked him. I don’t blame people for hating him on Iraq, but I take criticisms of him in good humor.

He was all for killing all Muslims. While he believed all religions were evil, he reserved special criticism for Islam.

Amongst other things, he supported Bush’s war-of-choice in Iraq.

In [a YouTube video], Hitchens calls Islam “the most depraved” of religions.

While he admits that he believes “all religions are wrong in the same way” — that is, privileging “faith over reason” — he did not believe all were “equally bad in the same way all the time.”

In the 1930s, Hitch believed that the Roman Catholic church’s ties to anti-Semitism made it the most dangerous of religions.

A huge part of the reason that NY got hit so bad at the beginning is that Trump fucked up with the travel ban so badly that people flooded back to the US out of fear and overloaded the international airports without any federal agents to speed everyone through. They turned into the first superspreader events.

In fairness, at the time he said it, Islam was more of a threat to the Western way of life than other religions were. Muslims were flying planes into buildings and exploding boats next to warships; other religions did not pose such immediate threats. Not going to excuse him on Iraq, but it’s not like he voted to authorize force, unlike may senators whom we’ve since forgiven (HRC, Biden, Kerry, etc.)

Rice as VP is the GOP’S wet dream- Hillary Mk II and the conservative corporate media will go right along trying to destroy them.

Any Biden pick will be demonized and the media will go along with it. Biden needs to select who he thinks would help him the most and we must be enthusiastic, even if she’s not our preferred choice. (Exception, of course, for Nina Turner — that would reflect badly on his judgement — and will 100% not happen). There are a lot of people who detest Kamala too.

I guess both. But mostly, his attitude is one that we know well in the disabled community: We are not ashamed enough of our circumstances.

Republicans do this because they think, if they shame people, they can change and be better and find their own bootstraps to success. We’ve all seen this.

Some of these same people have gone left, and there is an authoritarian streak in some of the left (example, Bernie Sanders) and it isn’t hard to imagine that these people want people like me to live the “right” way.

I’ve known this all my life and I’ve gotten this shit from Republicans. But I DESPISE getting it from Sanders people and tankies. (When tankies decide these things, atrocities follow. I wear glasses. Pol Pot exterminated people who wore glasses: They were considered intellectuals and a threat. That’s who tankies play with.)

So is the objection to the word “Charcuterie” itself?

You know, it’s nice to be able to see the price tag when you shop and then make a decision appropriately. If you splurge, enjoy it. I don’t care. Where I am, charcuiterie boards aren’t overly expensive; Market Bucket (“Market Basket”) has reasonable ones.

But this just spills over into so much more bullshit than meat and cheese boards that I have to respond, though I’m a creature of habit and don’t buy those things too often.

I know this from learning French. France and her culture, is aspirational for a lot of Anglos. It signifies wealth. The expensive Brie you might find here, is actually common in France. You can go to Carrefour—the French Walmart—and get all the brie you can pay for (you can also get baguettes, and six packs of wine).

But we consider it “rich”. My learning French is supposed to be aspirational to wealth; I just love the culture and language, even if I’m poor. It’s hard, though, to buy actual French things when they are priced to American as if they’re rich.
