The book “Manhunt” was a great recount of the hunt for Booth. If he doesn’t break/severally twist his ankle jumping from the balcony to the stage, he probably gets way. The crazy part was that given how famous he was, Booth killing Lincoln would be like DiCaprio killing the president.

It has nothing to do with student athletes and everything to do with having something to keep the plebes entertained, pure “bread and circuses” to try to stop the bleeding from their approval numbers.

The Repub “strategy” (for lack of a better term) since the spring has been about distraction, about keeping the public from dwelling on the fact that tens of thousands are dead or dying in an outbreak whose management was totally botched. First it was “reopening” so people would be at work or involved in hobbies that would keep them distracted. Then the summer was all about people being on holiday, too distracted by their vacations to care. And now the fall was supposed to be about school, about work, and about sports that would keep people’s attention.

But the “recovery” has stalled, schools are not “reopening” as intended, and sports leagues/conferences are canceling their fall seasons. All three are big, fat reminders of just how badly this administration has fucked things up. And all of it in the final stretch to the election.
