Speaking of schools. I started listening to the new serial podcast called Nice White Parents. It focuses on one school in NYC, but is really about bigger themes in education, particularly segregation (mostly de facto) and the power that white parents wield in public schools. Four episodes so far, really an interesting listen, slightly infuriating and I don’t even have kids, but some potential green shoots of optimism

Well, given how few shits are given about school shootings and poisoned Flint water and blowing up kids in foreign lands, this isn’t really a radical deviation from the existing Republican position.

We’re not going to get another stimulus until we have a President Biden, are we?

very possibly not
trump et al are calculating they can blame it on the dems ‘refusal to negotiate’
i dont think it’ll work
- especially since there’s been a house bill since May
- the sentate (mitch) wont pick it up
- there is no other senate bill at all - so no counter proposal (the r’s cant agree amongst themselves)
- and meadows and mnunchin cant seem to negotiate anything except “give us what we want”

I suspect the courts would toss an prosecution if the I’s are dotted and the T’s crosses on a trump pardon. Basic Marbury vs Madison issue - one president at a time and just because the president lost or was termed out doesn’t mean he losses the power of office before the new guy is sworn in

You have to remember that the nutter shouting such things doesn’t actually believe that the country is currently in the shitter. In his mind, things are good and only going to get better, but only if he’s given another 4 years to “fix” them. If he loses, then the country will nosedive and never recover and it totally will not be his fault.

Most dangerous president to the republic since Andrew Jackson

If he is re-elected, he would clearly be more dangerous than Jackson. Actually, Trump is even now more dangerous than Jackson — Jackson did not sell us out to a foreign power and he did not govern to enhance his personal wealth at the expense of the nation. Even though he was legally able to run for a third term, he followed tradition and only served two. Yes he was a genocidal criminal and dismissive of the SC but we could survive his evil.

It turns out that QAnon, which claims that Hollywood and D.C. elites are involved in Satanic child sex trafficking rings, isn’t the only conspiracy theory Greene believes in. She also apparently believes in the age-old claim that the U.S. government was behind the attacks on September 11, 2001.

I had to close my eyes for much of Event Horizon during my one and only time trying to watch it on cable years ago. And on FB, people in Chicago are terrified about the looting in downtown Chicago, and BLM spokespeople don’t help when they justify these actions.

For some reason those supporting Trump don’t seem to care about his role in exacerbating the pandemic; indeed many don’t even believe that the pandemic is real. Those promoting return to the classroom don’t think that their children are at risk because of the position that is even pushed now that this disease is no worse than the flu for children, especially the white children of Trump’s base. And they certainly don’t care about the risks faced by teachers and other staff just like they don’t care about the essential workers at meat packing plants.

I think that’s the advantage of an established candidate here rather than a newcomer like Harris though I’m sure she’ll definitely represent us well on state visits. Biden’s place in history is going to be of a statesman. We need one of those at the top more than ever.

I’m going to fucking lose it here as Trumpworld is now taking credit for a 2-state solution to the peace process, which has been enshrined in the Oslo Accords since 1993.

Heck, UN SCR 242 and 338 required the parties to come to an agreement. US was a mediator until Trump fucked up the whole process and shredded the 2-state solution by taking sides and ignoring the facts on the ground. At best UAE got Israel to recommit to Oslo. Let’s not forget that in May, 60% of parents favored sending their kids to school and those numbers have been dropping steadily ever since. 70% or so consider it a significant risk, and as we see more outbreaks among the “early adopters,” I expect that number to go up. The Republicans have been the Genocidal Ogre Party for a long time. The trend really became noticeable after Hubert Humphey’s defeat in 1968, when the Democrats came to be identified as the peace party, while the Nixon administration doubled down on LBJ’s failed Vietnam policy. To Republicans, losses in Vietnam did not matter, since the sons of their key constituency, the hinterland gentry, did not have to fight and the poor, who were purely an exploitable resource to that constituency, did not matter. To Democrats, even the wealthy ones, they did matter, hence the strident protest by privileged college students who were personally at little risk from the draft.

Is Kanye West Breaking the Law By Coordinating with the Trump Campaign While Running for President? Perhaps

I’ve been getting a lot of questions about whether Kanye West, who is running for President and getting on the ballots in at least a few states, is somehow breaking campaign finance law by doing so given the possibility that he is running for office, at least in part, to help President Trump’s reelection (by potentially siphoning votes away from Biden, though that’s far from clear) and given that he has reportedly been speaking “almost daily” with the President’s son-in-law Jared Kushner. Kushner is one of the key people running Trump’s reelection campaign.

The real issue is one of potential illegal coordination. A person can contribute up to $2,800 to a presidential campaign (and spend unlimited sums independent of that candidate to support that candidate’s run). When someone spends money supporting a candidate but does so in coordination with a candidate for office, that counts as a contribution and is subject to the $2,800 limit. West surely is spending more than $2,800 on his campaign. If he’s doing so in coordination with the Trump campaign to help Trump win, that could count as an excessive contribution to the campaign and be illegal.

LOCK THEM UP!

Okay replying to my own comment, I was pointed at the following on another forum.

The Trump administration has said it does not consider the mass killings of Armenians in 1915 to be a genocide, rejecting votes in the US Congress.

But from July, Press Secretary invoked the Armenian Genocide

Donald Trump had promised to recognize the Armenian Genocide, but “never got around to doing it”…

If he does, Cenk Uygur’s head will figuratively explode. If he doesn’t, maybe it’ll cause some Kim/Kanye explosion that will reduce the impact of Kanye’s ratfucking campaign.

Either outcome would be good.

A war in which Southern states all line up and try to secede and back that up with a standing army?

Not. Gonna. Happen.

The U.S. has gotten really, really good at using drones and LGMs to take out rebel leaders. We’ve been practicing in the Middle East for 20 years, and the process of Identify-Target-Launch-Splash is down to minutes, when it used to take days back in 2003.

Much more likely: rando ragebeasts gathering with their AR-15s and yelling a lot for the cameras. They may also ratpack black/brown/gay/women when the odds are in their favor. But most of the old rednecks screaming at their TVs during Hannity lack the courage of their convictions.

Street violence.
Roid cops seizing ballot return boxes, found mysteriously torched.
Roid cops in open warfare against neighborhoods
Kneecappings of public officials.
Outright assassinations.

It’s entirely possible President Trump will be nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize. It’s the odd man out in the Nobel Awards as there are hundreds if not thousands of people such as heads of state and leaders of prestigious organisations who can make nominations for the Peace Prize. Benjamin Netanyahu is one such nominator, President Vladimir Putin is another. Every year dozens, sometimes hundreds of people are nominated but the nominees are normally not revealed to the public.

The chances of the Nobel Prize committee actually awarding the Peace Prize to President Trump are, in the words of an old friend, slim, fat and none.

Turkey in the Straw’s’ melody originated from British and Irish folk songs, which had no racial connotations. But the song itself was first performed (and gained popularity) in American minstrel shows in the 1800s. Some songs using its same melody contained highly offensive, racist lyrics,” Good Humor explains on its website.

Fresh (don’t you dare cast aspirations on my) Asparagus with cheese sauce and herb and garlic rice.

hi from Valentine.

Just diving in and back out. Today in stupid, I lost my car keys in the middle of the Fort Niobrara National Wildlife Refuge. (Fortunately my wife had her spare.) I’ve written the Mercedes dealership in Westminster, Colorado to see if they can replace the key by mail so we don’t have to make a four hundred mile round trip to Denver for a key.

In the meantime, we drove the access road through the refuge to Fort Falls (second-highest in Nebraska).

The trip to the base of the falls is on a steep, military ship-style “staircase” (ladder). My wife really wanted to go to the base of the falls, but I could not help her by myself. A Ponca Nation family close by offered to help my wife down and back up.

As for my car keys, I suspect they are decorating the inside of a prairie dog town now.

re: #220 Targetpractice

Potential irony in the making: Trump and his goon at USPS so badly fuck mail-in voting that it actually does more damage to the Repub than Dems because their elderly and rural voters can’t get their votes counted.

Even these idiots will have thought of that, so I’m sure stage two of the great GOP USPS plan is for truckloads of GOP ballots to appear in the mail as needed.

Once again, folks are more mad that House Dems can’t wave a magic fucking wand and fix everything with a wish and a prayer than they are that Republicans are being allowed to run roughshod.

And again…in far too many cases, House Dems are doing exactly what they’re demanding, but the folks complaining don’t see the news coverage of it so it may as well not be actually fucking happening, and it’s somehow all the Dems fault for not stealing every mic and camera they find and shouting into it, as if news outlets are just clamoring for the Dem voice and opinion on these things, rather than, you know, the media doing what it always fucking does and let Republicans set the frames for everything and then ghost Dems trying to explain what they’re doing. So much easier to just pretend Dems aren’t doing anything because then they have more time to speak to Republicans, who absolutely won’t lie to their faces again for the millionth and a half time, no siree.

Maybe we will get lucky and Trump will do the Warren Harding thing…but on the other hand that means we’re stuck with Pence…

It takes all kinds, I guess.

She was too fast on Twitter’s “rebut” button. She apparently didn’t read what you wrote.

What Trump really should have done is emulate William Henry Harrison. That would have spared us all a lot of grief.

From a propaganda standpoint, if you repeat the lie, even to debunk it, the effort makes the lie still effective. Folks have got to find ways to mock it without repeating it verbatim.

A couple days ago my eldest first-cousin called to check in and say hi (the only other person in my family who will talk to me besides my mother).

Propaganda is insidious; she wanted to know why African-Americans were spouting such racist phrases as “Black Lives Matter.”

She is not a Foxbot nor any sort of Republican. She doesn’t watch the news at all. It took a great deal of explaining to say why that is not a racist phrase.

Patricia, it’s sad but I remember a lot of my racist relatives and their pals laughing at Obama. Had a relative who went so far as to call him “Ho-Bama” with a lot of N-CLANGS included.

It sounds like your Christian family would get along just fine with my Christian family.

It’s hard to imagine there is anyone in the world with less of an understanding of Christianity (in the middle east or elsewhere) than Donald John Trump.

What I’d really like to see happen is for the mainstream media and all non-Republicans to close ranks vs. the GOP as proven liars.

No more of this ‘D says 2 + 2 = 4, R says 2 + 2 = 5, let’s discuss the opposing views’ crap in opinion shows etc.

Straight reporting should never take Republican claims or talking points at face value, and any factual claims by Republicans should only be repeated if 1) they are actually true, 2) are independently confirmed, 3) if the confirmation is part of the reporting, and 4) if the confirmation has an (*) footnote to the effect that this specific statement by a member of the Party of Lies being correct is not to be taken as evidence of any other statements from the Party of Lies being true.

Well, I’m boxed in. All back roads to get to Glenwood Springs are now closed until further notice due to the #GrizzlyCreekFire. The sky is a sickly orange color, the air is more polluted than Beijing on a bad day.

Stay safe.

That’s the hill they’re going to die on? Seriously?

Remember, they went after Rep. Ocasio-Cortez for precisely the same thing.

They are not interested in truth: They are interested in a culture war to distract from their disaster.

It’s too early for the War on Christmas yet.

I cringed hearing my Xtian sister screaming at me for voting for that N*CLANG Obama. I lost it, told her to go fuck herself. Never talked to her and when I was asked to fly home for her funeral I told her racist asshole husband to fuck off. And when her husband died I sent a dozen red roses because he HATED those flowers.

Sandhills near Angora Nebraska

This is near my home: I took this yesterday driving to Valentine (someone said a couple days ago they’d like to see pictures from around my area).

This is between Northport (about 60 people) and Angora (population 1), on US-385 (the Sidney-Deadwood Trail). It looks ESE toward my town (by straight line, about twenty miles distant).

He’s already sabotaging the election. Giving him what he wants is a different equation.

Who would be deserving of the Peace Prize this year? I was thinking maybe Jose Andres.

Alicia Garza, Patrisse Cullors, and Opal Tometi
