Lyrics:

Against the sea, a hidden incorporated town
That glows like zircon in a fire
Its straight white streets crawl with consumers and their dogs
Migrant workers tend the transplant poplars

The liberal-minded here, they close their eyes and dream
Of technology and kombucha
The anti-vagrant system sounds like 20 dollar bills
being sorted in a counter

Don’t go to Anacita
They got their goon squads on patrol
Don’t go to Anacita
They’re gonna throw you in a hole
Uh oh

Behind their walls and gates the people fear a thief
That would steal money god put in their pockets
Their god is such a strange, vindictive beast
He only blesses those who prosper

Don’t go to Anacita
They only love abstract unborn
Don’t go to Anacita
Once you’re out you’re all on your own
Uh oh

Don’t go there

Don’t go to Anacita
They got their goon squads on patrol
Don’t go to Anacita
You’re better off living in a hole
Uh huh

Round 1 of thunderstorms has passed across the Minnetonka lake basin. Round 2 is sweeping in now. It’s going to be another wild ride.

A federal appeals court panel has unanimously overturned a lower-court order requiring Hillary Clinton to provide a sworn deposition about her use of a private email account and server during her four years as secretary of State.

….

During the protracted litigation surrounding the email saga, Clinton answered written questions under penalty of perjury about her email practices.

However, in March of this year, U.S. District Court Judge Royce Lamberth ordered the former first lady, Cabinet official and two-time Democratic presidential candidate to sit for a deposition. Lamberth, an appointee of President Ronald Reagan who has tangled with Clinton administration aides in a series of cases for decades, called Hillary Clinton’s earlier answers “incomplete, unhelpful, or cursory, at best.”

But the appeals court ruled Friday that Lamberth’s order was a “clear abuse of discretion.”

D.C. Circuit Judge Robert Wilkins suggested it was time to consign the Clinton email imbroglio to the history books.

The first wave passed just north of my location. I don’t think I’ve even gotten any rain yet. That second band looks distressing.

We’re getting fairly well drenched, but to be honest, we need it. When I was in Mankato, the Minnesota River was down a good 8-10’ from its water line.

Fishspawn have already been warned about the storm system and that we might be adjourning to the basement if the sirens go off. With my house being built on the side of a hill, the basement wall that’s dug back into the slope should be pretty secure as a shelter.

Even though Regina was partially destroyed by an F4 in 1912, and an F3 hit just north of the city a few years ago, nobody takes tornadoes terribly seriously here. Most are F0 - F2.

My former boss moved here from Connecticut. When he was looking for a house, he commented offhand how odd it was that every house had a basement, and asked our team why that would be when the local water tables are all so high. My young protege commented one word, “Tornadoes.” My boss stared at him like he had horns growing out of his head; apparently, he had no idea that the wind devils were every bit as much a threat here as out upon the open plains to our south.

Well the other answer is ground frost. If you have to go down five feet just to avoid frozen soil under your footings, you might as well make a usable basement.

I know it sounds a little odd /
But that’s what she should be called…

(to the tune of Camelot, of course)

Then perhaps riffing on Bollywood and Reggae and Jewish music to cover the American medley of her family. Ending as she rides off into the sunset with Joe in his shades, to “Born to be Wild.”

So many possibilities! So few computer skills, alas.

(Now going back to catch on the last thread. It’s been a day.)

Democrats say that President Trump’s assault on the U.S. Postal Service has handed them a new political message in the 2020 election, with a chance to make inroads with constituencies who have long favored Republicans,” the Washington Post reports.

“Those most affected by reports of slowdowns in delivery services include veterans, senior citizens and rural residents who have long voted Republican, arming Democratic challengers and incumbents with a salient campaign issue. Democrats are already blanketing the airwaves, latching on to the opportunity to highlight support for an institution that has a 91 percent approval rating.”

Biden knows his place in history and that this is his chance to achieve changes that rarely ever happen. He could become a top-tier accomplishment POTUS in a freaking month if he gets both houses.

I think that if he had any residual misgivings about giving up comity they went out the window when the GOP attacked his son without any GOP push back.

PG&E restored power. It turned out to be the first underground transformer at the end of the above-ground power lines. I drove down the street to find them working in a vault. not sure what was wrong but 2.5 hours makes it unlikely they replaced the transformer as that usually takes 6 hours.

We were going to cook dinner before power went out, then we decided to order grubhub delivery and as we were filling out our order the power came back, so we’re back to cooking. There’s just too many ACs running full-on today in 109 degree heat for the transformers to handle the load without overheating.

At our weekly Zoom Shabbat services tonight, the rabbi spoke very enthusiastically about the UAE-Israel agreement. He thought that the plaudits it received from both AIPAC and J-Street were a very good sign that it was moving the Middle East in the right direction and was hopeful it would be followed by similar agreements between Israel and other Arab nations. He also believed that while Mahmoud Abbas objected strongly to the arrangement, that younger Palestinians were eager to move on to the future and relegate these conflicts to the past and that they are tired of their ineffective leadership.

Unfortunately I think our rabbi may be naive about this — but then again I’m not an expert. I always thought that, except for Jordan, the Arab countries had no real interest in helping their Palestinian brethren and they probably recognize it. Who knows — maybe Bibi is finally doing something to promote the peace process in the region.

Again — I believe that the primary reason for Walsh’s hostility to Trump is FP. His original opposition surfaced in December 2016 when he characterized Trump’s handling of the Russian hacks as “almost treasonous”. He may support many of Trump’s domestic policies but is rabidly anti-Trump because of Trump’s deference to Putin and abandonment of our traditional foreign alliances. And he’s not the only never Trumper who has these views.

re: #169 Ace-o-aces

I will remind everyone that Joe Walsh has not, to my knowledge, change any of his policy positions. He remains the same right-wing wacko he has always been. The fact the the current GOP freaks even him out, should give us all pause.

He’s a self-involved schlub but the party is now in the hands of the actual sadists, the pepole who have hooked together all the cultural strings forming American “conservatism” and recognized that the common theme is they’re the superior kind of people—of no particular hierarchy, but whichever hierarchy in the moment grants the most license—and everyone else needs to be hurt until they comply…or just die.
