I am a Black woman who for most of my life has often been mistaken for white. And I’m here to tell you that for four decades white people have openly, even sometimes proudly, expressed their racism to me, usually with a wink and a smile, all while thinking I’m white too.

Adventures in CV19 Voter Registration:

Running an unmanned table with good signage and supplies of forms and pamphlets really doesn’t get it. Careful inventory of the forms and candy bowl showed almost no interest in our display, even set directly at the entrance to the library. Observation from the mask-free airconditioned car confirmed that. We flexed to the point of keeping a masked volunteer at 8-10’ from the table to challenge users and direct them to the takeaway materials. Results were much better—I got 5 takers in 3 hours. others haven’t reported.

(Also got my 4th, maybe 5th, felon for the week. This branch is in the felon-friendly part of town.)

nevertheless this morning I fit into my 30 waist levi’s for the first time in a year.

wore them all day with zipper closed and the button buttoned. no discomfort.

Good for you! I’ve got a whole box of 38’s in my closet that have been in the box for 25 years. I wonder if they’d be considered ‘vintage’?

I’m usually good for getting locked out once every decade - at least this lockout was cheap compared to when this happened to me back in MN.

Pro tip: for lockouts, use your local yellow pages - Googling for a locksmith is a bad (expensive) idea as the ripoff artists muck with Google rankings to get them placed at the top of the search results.
