Something to Liven Your Spirits: Allison Young, “Sh-Boom (Life Could Be a Dream)”

Hello everyone!

This song was requested quite a lot, it was one of my favorite songs to dance to when I was little! This song is one that I hold dear to me.

I’ve found myself listening to a lot of nostalgic and upbeat music recently, and I hope this helps liven your spirits a bit if you’re feeling a little blue.

“Sh-Boom” (sometimes referred to as “Life Could Be a Dream”) is an early doo-wop song by The Chords. It was written by James Keyes, Claude Feaster, Carl Feaster, Floyd F. McRae, and William Edwards, members of the R&B vocal group the Chords, and published in 1954.

QAnon Website Shuts Down After N.J. Man Identified as Operator

(Bloomberg) — A popular website for posts about the conspiracy group QAnon abruptly shut down after a fact-checking group identified the developer as a New Jersey man.

Qmap.pub is among the largest websites promoting the QAnon conspiracy, with over 10 million visitors in July, according to web analytics firm SimilarWeb Ltd., and served as the primary archive of QAnon’s posts. The website aggregates posts by Q, the anonymous figure behind the QAnon theory, and the creator of the Qmap.pub website is known online only as “QAppAnon.”

The fact-checking site logically.ai identified Jason Gelinas of New Jersey on Sept. 10 as the “developer and mouthpiece” for the site. New Jersey state records connect QAppAnon to Gelinas’s home address, Bloomberg found.

Gelinas is, or was, an information security analyst at Citigroup.

Btw, I don’t have any problem with this terrorist-inciting liar and traitor being publicly outed. This is a criminal conspiracy in and of itself, and I believe that this will be proven in court some time next year.

Sure. No fraud going on at all.

QAppAnon, the online name of qmap’s creator, also runs a Patreon account, which receives more than $3,000 a month in donations, according to the Patreon site. In March, QAppAnon announced on Patreon an upcoming Android app named “Armor of God,” a social network for followers of QAnon

Gelinas is, or was, an information security analyst at Citigroup.

Just based on some cursory searching, he doesn’t appear to be in management at Citigroup. At my evil too big to fail employer, “Information Security Analyst” is a well-paying job but is not supervisory level. He probably makes around $200K a year, and that’s more due to his location (very expensive New Jersey) than anything else. At my ETBTF employer, info security analysts can be involved in the usual infosec sexy stuff like penetration testing, or then can be

If I were Citigroup, I might be freaking out right now wondering what accesses this guy had, but I suspect he probably didn’t do any internal damage because of the various dual-control mechanisms now ubiquitous in banks to control access. Rather, it’s more the public perception that they had a big QAnon guy in their organization. And this is why I keep my work life VERY VERY SEPARATE from my home life. The ETBTF bank doesn’t need to have people sniffing around after I protest a church which believes women should be executed for getting abortions (for example).

The only real reason is that they suspect at some level that they cannot compete without some kind of privilege they either have inherited, or will inherit, whether a regional semi-monopoly business or merely a white skin.

It’s all the people that believe the real problem is the people who ask questions and criticize the status quo, and the one solution to all society’s problems is just to empower someone to shut them up and hurt them if they don’t shut up. It goes beyond privilege because they want this even though it hurts them, doesn’t give them a leg up in any meaningful way. They reject the idea that problems can be systemic because it’s frightening, makes them existentially small: their alternative is to embrace fictions in which they are important, heroic, and their opponents depraved, a single body of conspiracy, and the true cause of all problems. These fictions are neither internally coherent nor do they mesh together to form a worldview that makes sense, but that isn’t their function; the believers need the world to be small, simple, and to be defined by their importance—the rules and the narratives exist only to confirm their use of power to gratifying ends, especially those ends that are generally held to be immoral by their own beliefs.

This is comorbid with prejudice because -isms create arbitrary hierarchies with baked-in abuse of power, but not identical to it because they are not bound by their own caste hierarchies.

Reality is a small rural town where everyone knows their place, the terrible misdeeds of the powerful never spoken of in critical terms but occasional normalized through gossipy whispering, and anybody not willing to conform to the general social norms of appearance, behavior, and not talking about the terrible things that happened is pressured or forced to leave.

Most people have some unique type or group of mannerisms that they can call their own. For me as far as Hair Furor goes, it’s his winking and pointing at people. It’s the epitome of his whole MO: Charm or Assault. When he’s pointing at you he’s either focusing his charm or his rage at you. Case in point: when he almost fell at the top of a ramp a few weeks ago and his arms did a liddle flail… then he ‘saved’ it by doing a two handed point and smirk at somebody in the crowd.

Datura Species in Various Phases of Life

The colors in the sky today are a bit reminiscent of a sci-fi hellscape - I figured since the color of the sky was the same in black & white, I may as well convert the rest of the image to match. Datura species in Point Mugu State Park. If you look closely you can see why the plant was given the common name thorn apple - the fruits have what appear to be thorns growing on the exterior.

The USPS fair warning actually helps here in AL, where we only have a liberalization of the absentee ballot process. When they were forced to allow it for CV19, they kept the unrealistic turn-around time and other obstacles.

Politico apparently reported that 175,000 PA Dems who DID NOT VOTE in 2016 have signed up for vote by mail.

“Even more concerning for Republicans, Democrats who didn’t vote in 2016 are requesting 2020 ballots at higher rates than their GOP counterparts. The most striking example is Pennsylvania, where nearly 175,000 Democrats who sat out the last race have requested ballots, more than double the number of Republicans, according to an analysis of voter rolls by the Democratic firm TargetSmart.”

Portland AQI is at 379.

Basically that is just dangerous at short exposure. It would bother me greatly to have to be in that for days.

When I was an adjunct, my pay was generally $1200 per semester/class. Generally worked out to about $7200 a year for 12 hours/week in class instruction, plus prep work, grading and office hours.

Yeah…minor leagues with no chance for tenure (and a real salary) without a PiledHigher&Deeper.

Since the push to run colleges/university like businesses the past few decades, many adjuncts have PhDs these days cause there are fewer and fewer full time tenure-track jobs.

The compound shitheaded-ness of Trump and the Trumpers is not something we should let disappear. Trump’s inaction in the face of multiple disasters and his courting of the violent hate-right should not be ignored in campaigning. Nor should it be ignored after the election.

There needs to be much public discourse on this.

I’m hoping Biden is up for it. Many Americans are not ready for it. Many will not accept that their relatives on Facebook are the hateful bigots that their history demonstrates.

It should be pretty clear now, as to the long term effects that American fundamentalism will have to our politics and governance. Millions of people unable or unwilling to evaluate claims of truth, millions of people rejecting evidence, millions of people in cult-movements based around personalities.

Generations of venerating pulpit orators based on their ability to con people has done much harm.

While there are many religious people out there who have not checked their brains at the entrance, they are also not the ones causing the problem. We have to address the problem.

Watched a line of about ten cars and trucks drive past us on our way to the farmer’s market, all with their Trump signs and flags waving. Don’t know if they were planning to congregate somewhere, or just parade around our suburban area looking for a reaction. A few people honked. Most of the drivers ignored them. That’s a hard sell with Joe Biden.

The whole idea was going to be that with the “awesome, amazing, totally historical!” economy trundling along, any talk of taxes or regulations would be portrayed as “job-killing.” Bringing out “small business owners” who’d swear on cue about how Biden’s proposals would force them to cut jobs and possibly close down. Bring out grandma to say that Biden’s ideas would endanger her retirement and “socialized medicine” would kill her. Some “Young Republican” douches would tell folks that if Biden won, they’d have no futures because all the “good” jobs would be gone.

Things I didn’t know until the recent unpleasantness: Ace Hardware is NOT a chain, its a buying co-op allowing locally-owned hardware stores to sell at competitive prices.

I won’t be going to Lowe’s or Home Depot anymore unless there’s something that Ace cannot provide.

I love the Ace Hardware on Grand Avenue near my house. It has one of the crabbiest old clerks anywhere. Also one of the friendliest old clerks. 22 Ace Hardware stores in the Twin Cities are managed by one company so they’re all called Frattallone’s Ace Hardware. They’re not cheap but Home Depot and Menard’s owners suck.
