Robert is the real deal. Blues never really made any real money except for a few who happened to be in the right spot at the right time..
You play it because you love it and it is who you are.
Rough row to hoe.
Mr. Cray has my respect and admiration.

He gots it.

Saw Robert Cray and Keb’ Mo’ a few years ago. They played with their respective bands for over an hour each and then played together for another hour.

One of the best shows I’ve seen.

I’ll probably sign up for that. Never watched Parks and Rec when it was originally on, but watched all 7 seasons in the past few weeks. Just sad that Rashida Jones isn’t on that list—love her, and she’s definitely a strong Dem.

I’m just numb. And very angry. I’ve come to hate these people who warn us about catastrophes. Too many of them see disaster as something to crave, something they want, because they need to be doomsaying to have a purpose in life, or worse, to make a living. Most of the clickbait articles about Trump suspending the election are written by these people.

I’ve never read a survivalist or a prepper who didn’t eventually use their rhetoric to benefit themselves, and to scare their customers into buying more stuff. These people will flip on a dime after the election, if the apocalypse fails to materialize. Then they’ll look for different clickbait to write, more MRE’s to sell, more podcasts. (Sarah Kendzior, cough.)

I took my guitar to a guy with some good evaluations online in May. I think he’s a stand up dude. But I’ve learned something. First, he told me right up front that he couldn’t guarantee a “completed” date, only ball park. It took him a week to answer emails. I wanted a pick guard that would look close to original, so I contacted a couple of websites. Both took several days to respond. When I complained to one of them, he said that customers like me need to understand that they just can’t drop their tools to respond to every email and that it takes some time.

On the one hand, I have more appreciation for how busy some entrepreneurs get; on the other hand, if you want my business you can’t wait over a week to respond. I don’t care how good you are.

That’s the road I always thought Trump would take for lifetime rule — not an outright violation of the Constitution, but having his children each run for 2 terms. And then let’s look at the electors: the Constitution does not specify that they are chosen through election, only that they are chosen by the state, using whatever mechanism the state has specified for their selection. The Trump era has shown that the Constitution is a meaningless piece of paper if the President has a complicit Senate willing to do his bidding, regardless of the rule of law. Our protections are limited — surviving to some extent because of “Deep State” career employees who cannot be fired merely due to a change in administration. But I’m sure that will change if Trump is re-elected.

Why, does the virus not infect events that are “First Amendment protected”?

I’ve been phoning around trying to find a repair tech to rehab my old reel-to-reel tape recorder. I’ve got dozens of tapes of band gigs and rehearsals from back then that I’d like to digitize.

I’ve found two places that do that work, but they both said that they have a 3 month backlog before they can even start, and they need the deck at the shop before they’ll put you on the list. It also sounds like the rehab will cost almost as much as the deck cost in 1974.

I think the shutdown has been very good for electronics and instrument repair guys. I know it’s been good for companies that sell home audio equipment.

Several times:
2016— A video posted to Facebook Friday by Donald Trump’s campaign, in which the GOP frontrunner touts his support for American veterans, appears to show men wearing Russian military ribbons.

2016—Both Donald Trump and his campaign are defending their use of footage of the border between Morocco and Spain in an ad that touts Trump’s hardline stance on illegal immigration into the United States.

2020—The advert shows one image of Mr Trump in a calm setting talking to police officers beside another of a security official being surrounded by protesters, saying: “Public safety vs chaos and violence”. However, the image is a photo from a pro-democracy protest in Ukraine in 2014.

And on and on…

I hate when I get “greenwald-splained” National security by people as if I didn’t work in the field for 18 years.

My mom worked in the field too. Greenwald is a hack.

After Trump, How Do We Save Democracy?
Criminal prosecutions will be necessary but insufficient.
by Nancy LeTourneau, Washington Monthly

More columnists are saying there are going to have to criminal charges filed after this election. Here is another.

But given that both Atkins and Chait frame their arguments in terms of what will be required to save democracy, it is important to also recognize that, should Biden win in November, prosecuting Trump and members of his administration will be necessary, but not sufficient to complete the task.

Many of the ways that Trump has corrupted our democracy don’t constitute crimes that can be prosecuted in court. Some of those could be addressed for the future by passing new laws, such as requiring presidential candidates to release their tax returns and a more complete requirement for divestment from business interests.

Others, however, involved the breaking of norms that have developed over decades and don’t lend themselves to legal remedies. As an example, one of the major contributors to the erosion of the rule of law is the breakdown of independence between the president and the attorney general. Even cases that could be prosecuted have been covered up by Bill Barr, such as Trump’s obstruction of justice in the Mueller investigation.

Re: International sanctions against the Trumpian empire.

There are a lot of possibilities. One is a travel ban on the Republican Party and the conspiracy industry. The UK banned entry by radio hater Michael Wiener-Savage a few years ago, for example, and various other hate-mongers have gotten the same treatment over the years. They can extend this to include all public haters and tools, as well as media outlets like Fox and OANN. Tools who venture outside the country could be arrested and sent to the Hague for trial, since Trump controlled courts are plainly not competent to try them.
Another tactic would be an offer of asylum for Americans wishing to flee. This could become a flood with the right decisions overseas. American companies pressured or attacked by Trumpists could be invited to move completely, including employees. Boycotts of American products, already in place de facto in China thanks to Cheeto’s stupid policies, could be formalized if alternatives exist. Boeing has already embargoed itself with its homicidal incompetence in the 737 Max affair, but sanctions would make their recovery essentially impossible.
Intelligence and other clandestine assistance could be provided to resisters. Republicans had no complaints about Russian hacked emails. They will have no standing then if, say, MI-6 publishes the complete membership roster of the John Birch Society or steals Cheeto’s tax records.

It’s looking like an inside joke, Trump tools mocking his rube supporters. It reminds me of a Lubbock con-artist a few years ago who used the name “Dewey, Cheatem, and Howe” to open more than a hundred fake lines of credit. He was caught because one of the intended marks was a Three Stooges fan.

DEWEY, CHEATEM AND HOWE
Fraudster Patrick Pender’s sense of humor got him in big trouble. The Lubbock, Texas, man pled guilty to an identity fraud scheme that had cost credit card companies, casinos and banks $1 million over a four-year period. Using various combinations of the name of the fictitious Three Stooges law firm, “Dewey, Cheatem and Howe,” Pender somehow was able to get more than 100 lines of credit. The joke became his downfall when bank vice-president John Reed was asked to approve a money-order request from Pender. Reed—a fan of classic TV shows—took one look at the name and called the FBI, who had the last laugh.

That’s what I thought when I saw the summary (don’t usually read detective or “thriller” novels, don’t plan to read this one, probably wouldn’t if it were declared the greatest of its kind in the history of the genre). It’s a pretty thin thread to hang an accusation on, but once the Twitterverse decides you’re some sort of undesirable, the narrative will never change. Why on earth did CNN offer Trump “weekly show” during 2016 campaign?
This is how we got here, Eric Boehlert

As the pandemic deaths mount, huge sections of the West Coast burn, Trump threatens military action against possible post-election protesters, and the U.S. economy remains stuck in a dire state of decline, it’s important to understand how the country came to this crisis under Trump. And it’s imperative that the media’s role in creating Trump’s doomed presidency doesn’t get overlooked or downplayed. The news media’s failings in 2016 were legendary and the country today is paying a stunning price. That’s why disturbing new revelations about CNN’s relationship with Trump during the 2016 campaign are so infuriating.

The whistleblower is apparently a nurse that worked at an ICE detention center in Georgia. But her social media is full of weird stuff, including a video where she said that ‘transfusions are the work of the Devil’ (the video has since been deleted).

Another point was raised - an ICE detention facility is probably not equipped to perform mass hysterectomies. They barely have beds for all the detainees, let alone a sterile environment for surgery and recovery rooms.
