Classical precision meets uncompromising rock on new album from world class guitarist. Steffen Schackinger belongs to the absolute elite, and his new album ‘Fire Dance’ takes his instrumental guitar music to new heights.

With millions of views on YouTube, a worldwide tour resume and international recognition as a top class guitar player, Steffen Schackinger has established himself as outstanding in his field.

His second solo album, Fire Dance, is no exception. Steffen Schackinger combines precision and timing from his background on the classical scene with the uncompromising expression of rock music.

“I express myself through my guitar, as a singer does with the voice and a painter with a brush. The strings are not limited by language“, says Steffen Schackinger. His first album earned him a spot on the prestigious Guitar on the Edge top 50 of the world’s best guitarists in 2010 ranking 15th. Since then he has been playing guitar clinics throughout Europe and Asia. But now the former Merzy guitarist is once again ready to hit the stage.

The album Fire Dance is published by US label Candyrat Records, and Steffen Schackinger is joined by former Merzy bass player, Henrik Bjørn and drummer Lars Daugaard of the Danish hit orchestra Gnags.

Roe will be the last (if ever) to go down. It has too much support amongst non-evangelical white women. I fully expect a roll back on Trans rights before they actually go after SSM or Roe. Yes, they hate us that much.

That and 1) Being a “newer” right it’s not burned into people’s minds and 2) they can destroy “Roe v Wade” without actually overturning it. They’re almost there already so they’ll simply finish that way. 3) Roberts really doesn’t care about Roe. His big thing is destroying minority voting rights. He will let nothing get in the way of preventing non-whites from voting - not SSM, Trans rights or Roe. Just look at his decisions.

I think Trump is going to make a recess appointment. He’s already got a list of Federalist Society nutjobs to choose from (Amy Coney Barrett was a finalist before Judge Drinky got the nod), and he would have a full court to decide any Bush v Gore-like case that might reach the court if the election is challenged.

In the meantime, they can also gut Obamacare and Roe V Wade in the one year I believe that justice could sit on the court without Senate confirmation.

Yes, they are that cynical.

29
Targetpractice  Sep 19, 2020 • 1:21:51pm

You want to make the message clear, Senate Dems, then sign a pledge to do the following next year with a Senate majority if Senate Repubs do not honor RGB’s last wish:

1. Putting the filibuster to the sword. Mitch has already pledged to obstruct everything for the next 2-4 years, so pledge to make him irrelevant and Senate majorities matter again.

2. Expand the SCOTUS bench to 13 seats, 1 justice per circuit. This is not something that requires a constitutional amendment, just passing legislation.

3. Pledge to give Merrick Garland a speedy confirmation vote if Biden will nominate him to one of those new seats.

4. Block any nominees that Trump attempts to put up before Inauguration Day (yes, Manchin, that means you too).

Ok. But what about THIS year…

The unfortunate truth is that there really aren’t a lot of options for the senate dems this year, some delaying maneuvers, and they can do their best to drag something out in a confirmation hearing that will disqualify a candidate even in the eyes of the repubs, but in the end, if the republicans are unified they can seat someone. Unless the dems take back the senate they will be in the same position next year.

NOPE!

‘We’re Not Scared’: Tens of Thousands of Motorcyclists Pack Lake of the Ozarks for Bike Rally

“There are thousands of bikes here. A lot of people here—this weekend there will be even more people,” Dan Ousley, a 51-year-old local who has participated in Bikefest for years, told The Daily Beast. “It’s great to see. Honestly, I think that the COVID-19 thing is a little overblown, to be honest. We made national news for having large crowds, but we just want to live our life.”

Ousley, who is hosting a 15-mile “Bikefest-Trump parade” ride on Saturday that is expected to attract a couple hundred participants, admitted that local residents are “not real big on masks here,” because they don’t want to “infringe on anyone’s rights.”

Nothing stops Murkowski and Collins from abstaining, rather than voting no, and still living up to their statements (in their eyes).
And, that will not help stopping a confirmation. If two more actually vote no, it’s still a tie with Pence casting the deciding vote.

Sad local loss. Bennie Swans was really a big force in community projects and pretty much single-handedly created the MLK observances. He was our Dem Chairman for a few years, but was really more of a community activist.

Swans helped get the City of Myrtle Beach to recognize Martin Luther King Jr. Day as an official holiday. More importantly, former Myrtle Beach Mayor John Rhodes said, Swans convinced the city council to do even more, leading to the Freedom Weekend, which has been around for 14 years.

No idea. But I should think any senator in a close race this November would be potential.

NPR isn’t just All Things Considered. And I think there’s a better chance of fixing them than of fixing Sinclair. (Purity tests: not just for politicians.)

If Democrats would throw money at NPR like they have these races, it could fix a lot of that, especially if people started sending critiques.

They have to calculate how much gain they’d get from the middle versus how many votes they’d lose from Trump’s base.

Note that McConnell never said WHEN there would be a floor vote on a nominee. He could let sufficient purple state Senators play act at having principles for the election, and then whether they win or lose, they can still vote to confirm in the Lame Duck.

Indeed. The time is there. Had RBG died the day before the GOP lost control of presidency + senate, they would have rammed something through.

Does “after the election” mean November 4th or December 31? Not saying they wouldn’t try. But the time crunch might be enough that delaying tactics could delay it enough. We may get the chance to find out soon.

Unfortunately, she has a point. We literally cannot afford to entertain ideas of trying to grind gov’t to a halt because we have so many other crises that we need those functions. And that’s sadly why the GOP is able to wield that kind of threat so much more effectively than us: they literally don’t care who gets hurt long as they get their way. We actually give a shit about who gets hurt and recognize that we can’t play around with that without real tangible pain caused.

Every GOP Senator who refused to give Garland a vote & now agrees to vote for a Trump SCOTUS nominee will forever be remembered as a monumental hypocrite. And McConnell will live in infamy as the man who destroyed the Senate & the Court through his own lust for power.

The excuse being offered for “no nominations in an election year” is that it only applies to when the Presidency and Senate are controlled by different parties.

So no hypocrisy, okay?

I matters little, these people have no sense of shame, but for that they have a clear sense of what they can get away with. And tanking the Senate for 6-10 years might be worth getting a Federalist Society member on the SCOTUS.

He, along with other GOPeepees said that in 2018 in re Kavanaugh. In other words, he moved the goal posts, like he did now.

Senate Republicans promise a quick floor vote on a Trump Supreme Court nominee

To prevent a new nominee from being seated before the election — or during the lame-duck session — four Republicans would need to vote against confirmation. It’s unclear at this point if there are four willing to buck the party to do so.

I think that is not worded correctly. For a nominee to fail, 1 Republican has to vote against, 3 abstain from voting. Or 2 against, 2 abstain. 3 against and 1 abstain, and it is all over, no seating of a new judge. I’m assuming the two “independents” vote with the Dems as they normally do.

It’s 50% + 1, not 50 + 1
1 no, 3 abstain = 49Y-48N (50% + 1) Nominee confirmed
2 no, 2 abstain = 49Y-49N - VP breaks tie (50% + 1) Nominee confirmed

A very thoughtful article from Governing Magazine: “How Did America Lose It’s Confidence”.

The article is a lot more optimistic than I am. I think we were done as a country since 2016, or even earlier, to 2000. I’ve spent the last four years of Trump learning French and Dutch, and I would rather hate their cultures for all their faults. I think most of the rest of the world would, too, even if few of them yet realize it.

Not necessarily. He got reelected in 2018, so he doesn’t have to worry about that till 2024.

I just got my flu shot a couple of days ago and it got me wondering… What will flu’s impact be on those (six million here now) who have already been infected/recovered from COVID19? Will those two similar coronaviruses reinforce each other’s detrimental effects? Also, what influence will the time lapse between those infections have?

Influenza isn’t caused by a coronavirus. (All I learned from my “study” of virus families is that it would take far more time than I care to give it — like years — to understand it, but wikipedia has articles.)

But even if the viri aren’t similar, they’re both composed of the same stuff — RNA in a protein coat — and both spread principally by droplet inhalation, so the same processes keep them at bay. Which is to say hand washing, masking, and social distancing.

re: #184 🌹UOJB!

That’s why I sent $$$ to 12 Democratic challengers and I will NOT abandon Doug Jones!

Here’s my theory on what *could* happen on Election Day.

In 1980, for most of the campaign, people were looking for a reason to vote against Carter. The economy was terrible, the Iran hostage crisis was dragging on, the Soviets were flexing their muscles. On top of that, he had gone on TV to complain about “malaise,” and came off as grumpy, and like he’d rather be doing anything but be POTUS. Reagan was old, perceived as extreme, “voodoo economics” had struck a chord, but he was optimistic and hopeful - a sharp contrast - yet he hadn’t closed the deal.

Until their one debate when he looked at the camera and said, “are you better off now than you were four years ago?”

After that, anyone still on the fence jumped off for Reagan. He won 44 states, and the GOP won 12 Senate seats. It was a slaughter.

Meanwhile, we all know how horrible Trump has been, and how much worse he will probably be. Biden has held a steady lead in both the popular vote and EC, yet somehow people are still on the fence, even though there is no documented proof that he lied about how bad COVID could be from the very beginning, and it’s clear that a large majority of the more than 200,000 deaths were avoidable.

During his closing statement in after the last debates, preferably the last one needs to check all the boxes on all the things Trump has lied about, from the ridiculous (crowd size) to the deadly (COVID), and say “The President of the United States is incapable of telling the truth, and people are dying because of it. I will always be honest with you!” and do it as well as he delivered his convention speech.

If he does that, that might just be what swings any remaining undecideds, as well as the so-called “reluctant Trump voters” from 2016 who fear Hillary because of her emails, into Biden’s column. Even this won’t give him a Reaganesque landslide, but it could flip Georgia, Texas, maybe even states like Montana and Alaska, and give him coattails to give Democrats big gains in the Senate, including re-electing Doug Jones!

Maybe I’m dreaming. I probably am, but this scenario *might* just be the breaking point that even Bill Barr can’t bail Trump out.

Unknown. I think in terms of the saying “Whatever doesn’t kill us makes us stronger”, except in this case it may be more “Whatever doesn’t kill us weakens us, so the next thing DOES kill us”.

Given the long, long recovery of some COVID patients, I would imagine they’d suffer severely from flu, if they catch it. Probably kill some of them who would not have otherwise been killed by it.

According to this DOJ guide, section 594 “criminalizes conduct intended to force prospective voters to vote against their preferences, or refrain from voting, through activity reasonably calculated to instill some form of fear.”

Take a break

Barefoot Grin  Sep 19, 2020 • 5:57:52pm

So off topic I should make it private, but I won’t.

When I was about 11 or 12 the thing I wanted most was an electric guitar. I went to a pawn shop and found a weird looking telecaster (it was all sparkly) and so I took a pass (because I had no idea what I was looking for). Meanwhile, my parents, hoping to give me something to do instead of masturbate, talked to the guitar player in the youth choir at our church. He got them an original Gibson SG Jr. for a good price and they gave it to me for Christmas when I was 13 (all morning everyone else got presents, but there were no presents for me; then I was told to go upstairs, and alas I found my SG Jr). I took a couple of months of lessons with the fellow who got the deal for my parents in his studio at the local music store. Then one day I saw a guitar that had THREE PICKUPS unlike my stupid SG Jr that only had one. So I traded.

It was a bad, stupid deal. I got a Gibson Firebird III non-reverse. For years I struggled with the tuning. I replaced the original tuners and took off the vibrato bar that in one pull tugged the guitar off tune.

But I finally got out of credit card debt that I used to move my family to NH and survive until my salary, along with wife’s part time work, gave us a little savings. And then I got some bonus work doing technical editing, and so I decided to fix this guitar. It is in no way a collector’s item anymore, even though the pickups and the body and the neck are original. It’s had lots of work done to cover up a headstock break that I didn’t see before. But the luthier did an amazing re-fret and built a great nut while craving out the glue from the previous. He also did a re-wire that is pretty good, though the neck P-90 is much louder than the mid and bridge (though that gives me a boost that I can do with my volume knob). It dials in at different levels on my amp that the Telecaster, so if I ever play live again, that may be an issue. But I had forgotten how the P-90s distort so quickly in ways that my Tele pups don’t. I don’t need an overdrive, just booster pedal. I almost sold my xotic EP and AC because they didn’t work well with the tele, but they are perfect for the trash Gibson Firebird I had rehabbed. I’m so happy and I had to tell some folks who might care.

Who is the woman Fat Donny is talking about appointing? I’ve been out of the loop this week.

Easy answer:

A plug-in type of woman, a blow-dry male-approved over-made-up FoxNews-ready candidate, who ties her success as an Evangelical Christian to enabling White entitled men towards avenues of power.

After all, enabling White Men to money and power who think Jesus is a warrior carrying an M-16 and an American Flag is the keystone of modern Evangelical Christian theology.

hi

The official proclamation from the White House on the death of Associate Justice Ruth Bader-Ginsberg is now published on the Website. It was issued this morning.

Most of these sorts of proclamations aren’t written by the President, and I certainly wouldn’t expect Donald Trump to write something so coherent.

It is difficult to sum up the life of someone so consequential in two pages, but the proclamation is very well written.

Half-staff for the flag, declared in the proclamation, sticks strictly to the US Flag Code (until sunset of the day of interment).
