That Pseudonymous RedState “Editor” Who’s Been Trashing Dr. Fauci and Mocking Masks? He Works for Dr. Fauci.

Politics • Views: 20,974

The far right hellsite calling itself “RedState” has long been an epicenter of bad craziness, but here’s a bit of news that takes it to the next level.

One of the grotesque anti-science trolls who’s been spreading anti-mask propaganda and attacking Dr. Anthony Fauci at RedState, who has the title “managing editor” there, is actually working at the very agency Dr. Fauci leads.

I found out this morning that one of the casualties of the unrest after George Floyd’s death was a building that housed some sort of communications systems for doctor’s offices. Until it gets repaired, trying to call many doctors in the Twin Cities is an exercise in patience. I’ve been on hold for 30 minutes for a specialist I saw last week and I’m still getting a message that there are ‘9 or more’ calls in front of me. This is the worst, but every call to a doctor I’ve made lately has been lengthy.

Adelson has put $50 million towards Trump aligned PACs. $25 million is accounted for on opensecrets.org, but the second tranche was just announced and isn’t in their DB just yet.

By comparison, Tom Steyer has put in $26 million and Bloomberg just $19 million.

Most of these deaths were avoidable. Had they learned the lessons from NY/NJ, they could have masked and social distanced their way to a low case and low death rates.

Instead, they went the opposite direction, and the deaths keep rising.

With Barr as AG? Of course it will go well. If it’s GOP violence or murder, it’s Stand Your Ground defense because IOKIYAR. Trump is deliberately and maliciously destroying our nation but he has plenty of enablers — every Washington DC GOP legislator (possible exception of Romney, but probably not) , every GOP governor in the South, every state legislature run by the GOP. Barr’s thugs murdered Michael Reinoehl in Portland, and barely a peep about this crime, meanwhile Rittenhouse is still in an Illinois juvenile facility and not in custody in Kenosha. And let’s not forget Trump’s recent voluminous praise of Robert E. Lee. DeSantis can see all this and knows that he is free to do what he pleases, including the poll tax he instituted to bar those who completed their sentences from voting.

Alaska
Tennessee
Arkansas
Louisiana
South Carolina
Alabama
Missouri

Guess who isn’t in the top 10?
NY, OR, and WA

It’s not the quantity, it is the type and quality of “violent crime”: if it has the BLM or Antifa label, then it is automatically at least 3x more criminal than, say Right-Wing hate crime…

Exactly. He seems to have little enough to lose that he really might run (to Russia) rather than walk. He can still find ways to grift his base “from exile.” It might even be better for him since he would not face any scrutiny of his continued operations. He would have real value to Putin as a figurehead for ongoing active measures against the US.

So finally, I blocked fair, and also the one who was always first on the list of ‘also’ followers (probably an immigration atty., sorry) and now I will feel less guilty when twitter opens on my firefox page.

None of that counts for bollocks.

I did succeed in registering to vote. Hubby, too. No visit anywhere required (for him. I picked up and delivered the forms.)

Exactly. He seems to have little enough to lose that he really might run (to Russia) rather than walk. He can still find ways to grift his base “from exile.” It might even be better for him since he would not face any scrutiny of his continued operations. He would have real value to Putin as a figurehead for ongoing active measures against the US.

I have a feeling that Putin won’t want him.

Nor will Bibi, or the Saudis, or anyone else he thought he made a deal with bought off.

He could barricade himself in that Florida palace…

Manchin has grown a lot in my estimation. When we need him to stay with the caucus, he’s been there. Sure, I’d rather he had voted against Judge Beer, but his yes wasn’t the deciding vote and he knew that.

He may not be the best Democrat by blue-state standards, but he’s infinitely better for us than any Republican would be in that seat.

And if we had five more red-state Dems just like him, we’d be in so much better straits now.

Just returned from in-person voting at the local elections office. Apparently I missed the rush that had people lining up outside. There were about 15-18 people in front of me. Took about 15 minutes to get to the front of the line.

There were enough clerks and supervisors behind the counters. There were at least a dozen voting booths.

A woman outside was handing out Absentee Ballot Applications & clipboards to people who didn’t have them. All but 4 or 5 already had the completed forms with them. I used the form that I got from the Secretary of State’s office instead of the one I got from the Center for Voter Information. There were no Trump people or signage of any kind.

There were no surprises at all. All I was thinking after I had my ballot in hand was “NOW DO NOT FUCK THIS UP”. I checked and double checked every box I filled in completely and made sure that I sealed the envelopes with the little sealing bottle that they provided along with a fresh pen.

My realized that my hand was shaking as I dropped the ballot into the box. This next three months is going to be ghastly.

Stopped for a drive-thru pastor burrito on the way home. Damned thing weighs about 20 oz. Half for lunch and the other half for dinner.

Woot. I just got dynamic module import working in the Chrome extension I’m developing, after days of wrestling with it.

I know, wtf am I talking about, right?

It’s the ability to break up Javascript functions into granular “modules” and use just the ones you need when you need them, instead of writing a giant script with everything in it. Anyway, it’s extremely cool.

Earlier, someone posted this Eric Boehlert piece, and this comment really hit home for me.

Theodora308 hr
I think the media has internalized the belief that Democrats are the female party — the “Mommy Party” as George Lakoff puts it. Republicans are the strong, patriarchal “Daddy Party”. Democrats represent traditional female values so Democrats, men included, are held to a higher standard than the members of the “manly men” party just as women are held to a higher standard than men are in the real world.

Al Gore was literally accused of being so “feminized….he was practically lactating” by Maureen Dowd because of his deep concern for the environment and no one in the media seemed to find that outrageously misogynist and stupid. Gore, a man who volunteered to serve in Vietnam, was given the “girly man treatment” by the same media that clearly admired those two chickenhawks Cheney and Bush as real men. Kerry got the same treatment. The media accused him of looking weak (not manly enough) for his response to the Swift Boat liars’ accusations. They gave Bush a pass for those unforgivable attacks by his people. Rough and tumble is just what guys do, amirite?

The media went bonkers over Clinton’s dalliance with Monica Lewinsky just like they would if a female president were to do such a thing. In contrast Trump’s extreme promiscuity and sexual assaults and harassment haven’t gotten nearly the same amount of outrage. After all “boys will be boys”.

I might be crazy but it does seem that the Mommy/Daddy theory explains this double standard.

Retiring early can cost a LOT of money for a state or federal employee. You have to get to a certain age to be fully vested. Hopefully he’s young enough so that this hurts him badly, and he’ll have to work far longer than he would if he’d not fucked up his government gig.

Also, slagging your boss anonymously in public is probably going to work against his future prospects.

I’m expecting the worst (mass violence and disruption during and after the election) but I think there is also a non-negligible possibility of a gigantic anti-climax: Trump will leave peacefully, that is, throw a brief tantrum then just sulk away. I think he may not have the guts for a real fight. He has often been compared to Hitler but he differs from that monster in one crucial respect: There is no doubt at all that Adolph was personally brave almost until the end, while Trump is a whining coward.

It’d be a bit ironic if the UN had to send in forces to protect innocent civilian populations from a military and LE that had obeyed Trump’s commands to kill anti-Trump “partisans.”

re: #129 gocart mozart

The article is very troubling; although the public health experts interviewed are both professors at Harvard Medical School, they seem to be promoting the same ideas as Scott Atlas: a herd immunity that can be based on a substantial portion of the population becoming ill (or taking a vaccine if one becomes available).

They state that “Children and young adults have minimal risk” and “We do not know what percent immunity to the coronavirus is needed to achieve herd immunity, but we do know that if there are many older people in the group that is infected, there will be many deaths. On the other hand, if mostly young people are infected, there will be very few deaths.”

They seem to prefer the Swedish model; that the flaw there was the failure to protect nursing home residents. A lockdown harms working class people, many of whom have lost their jobs. But it also interferes with health care for the population and proper education for young people.

“Infectious diseases will spread, and exposures in young, healthy people contribute to the herd immunity that will ultimately benefit all.

Progressives should be advocating for a sustainable, communitarian approach that is informed by the knowledge that the virus will spread until herd immunity is achieved, acknowledges the need for stringent protections of the vulnerable in order to minimize deaths, and recognizes the harm caused by crude across-the-board lockdowns and their disproportionate impact on workers and people of color.”

Nowhere is there a discussion of how Americans are, on the average, less healthy than their Swedish peers, and so therefore many who are younger may also be at higher risk. Or the possible long-term damage to survivors of this disease, even those who had mild cases. And there is also silence on the topic of re-infection — what if there is, in fact, no herd immunity absent a vaccine.

Maybe the biggest problem with their approach is that we still have insufficient knowledge on how this disease affects the human body. And the main failing of the US lockdown approach was the need to compromise with the Republicans on how money should be spent to help the economy.

There really are no good answer once a worldwide pandemic hits. The best answers, like with most bad things, are preventative in nature. And as we all know, Trump tossed out the pandemic playbook created over the last two administrations, shitcanned the NSC members responsible for pandemic responses (and didn’t replace them), cut funding for the CDC, and failed to fill positions in the CDC’s worldwide operations. So we were left with the unenviable choice of a shit sandwich or shit tacos.

My consistent position has been that there would have been no worldwide pandemic, and certainly nothing approaching this magnitude, if Trump had not eliminated our ability to detect and react quickly at the outbreak of a novel virus.

Nothing is certain. But polling is showing it to be very unpopular (like less than 40% approval). So, it could hurt a lot of GOP incumbents. If it is enough to swing a bunch of seats, that we don’t really know…

Ahh, yes, the Swedish model, which was so successful that Sweden’s own authorities in charge of setting the policy have openly stated that they made mistakes and that theirs was not an example to follow. Brilliant, yes, lets follow that route.

The motherfuckers advocating for “herd immunity” are the ones that understand it the least and yet are prepared to sacrifice millions of American lives for a immunity that isn’t even guaranteed absent a vaccine, at which point you’d have sacrificed millions of lives anyway trying to do something ‘naturally’ that simply doesn’t fucking happen naturally more times than not.

They’ve fully fucking bought in to the hand-waving dismissiveness from the chuds while trying to wrap it up in lefty populist nonsense thinking THIS! THIS is the miracle that will bring progressive pony policy into fruition finally!

The tricky part is, the Dems have probably been favored to win a narrow majority since March, at least that’s what the Princeton Election Consortium has shown. The better question is: will this move the expected outcome of 51D-49R to something like 55-45?

There’s a company called GalaxyCon that has long done physical Comic Cons. Since that’s not possible at the moment, they are doing video conference panels (for free) with the casts of well known TV shows and movies and such.

This past Saturday I watched a panel for Star Trek: TNG that was supposed to feature Jonathan Frakes, Gates McFadden and John De Lancie. Gates never made it due to technical issues but the other two guys were there.

At one point, the moderator asked De Lancie if he thought the Qanon movement was damaging to the “Q” character he played on TNG. De Lancie said that Gizmodo had actually called him to get a comment on the same subject for some article they were doing but to his credit he doesn’t even want to give those morons (the Qanon idiots) the time of day and largely refrains from commenting on “stupid political stuff” so he effectively told Gizmodo to buzz off.

He was most entertaining part of that panel for sure.

I can’t speak for the whole list, but…

The lies about tobacco, asbestos, pesticides and lead paint… were lies from the manufacturers (“no, it’s not harmful”), lots of people died and/or suffered brain damage, the lies were eventually proven to be lies but the companies mostly made enough money in the meantime to pay the jury verdicts and/or settlements. What I learned from reading Alinsky, is that there is no one trick to moral persuasion, no protest that works by the numbers, nothing that works right away. Aggressively fighting for the right is hard work, and a life’s work for many. I always resented and hated those who treated a protest like a day out or a way to get extra credit. People should enjoy the work of activism, but it’s serious and earnest at the end of the day.

Sad but true. I remember being told in first grade “Go to a policeman if you need help. The policeman is your friend.” Since the only cops I knew at the time were British bobbies and USAF SPs (then known as APs, Air Police), it was probably true. A lot changes with locale and the passage of 65 years, probably more locale than time in this case, since the bobbies are as unerringly professional and courteous as ever and I suspect that the SPs are as well.

Well the back of her shirt says “Donald Trump, finally someone with balls” so I guess that’s the joke? Really poorly done pubic hair, tho.

That describes my voting experience today. Had to wait a couple minutes to be allowed into the building, but then it was maybe 20 minutes of zero drama until I was back outside again.

Still waiting here… early voting in NY state can’t start until Oct. 24, and I’ll probably wait a day or two to see if there are early crowds. So it’s still 34 or 35 days of patience for me.

Isn’t there an amendment to the Constitution addressing just that?

So long as the current court stands, it might as well not exist.

I heard from people who were leaving that there had been a long line until just before I got there. I went after I thought that the lunchtime rush would be over. Timed it just right. Today is the third day in MN (half day on saturday).

Well, this is an entirely different but equally bad pile of bovine manure:

In what is set to be one of the largest ever acquisitions in the video game industry, Microsoft announced Monday that it has reached a deal to acquire ZeniMax Media, the parent company of popular video game publisher Bethesda Softworks, for $7.5 billion.

Once the deal is finalized, Bethesda properties including The Elder Scrolls, Fallout, Wolfenstein, Quake, Starfield and DOOM will be owned by Microsoft. These series will be added to the Xbox Game Pass, a subscription-based cloud gaming service which has topped 15 million subscribers.

The Bethesda deal is expected to be finalized in the second half of fiscal year 2021.

“With the addition of Bethesda, Microsoft will grow from 15 to 23 creative studio teams and will be adding Bethesda’s iconic franchises to Xbox Game Pass,” Microsoft wrote in a release. “This includes Microsoft’s intent to bring Bethesda’s future games into Xbox Game Pass the same day they launch on Xbox or PC.”

This deal is three times the $2.5 billion that Microsoft paid for Mojang, the company behind Minecraft, in 2014. It will be Microsoft’s most expensive video game acquisition ever.

Yep. Vaccines are not a big money maker for drug companies. They’re a public good. They’re not harmless. If vaccine manufacturers were liable, prices would be a lot higher to cover lawsuits.

There will always be people who have adverse reactions to vaccines (all drugs). I take a flu shot ever year. One year I had a bad reaction. It went away 45 minutes later but whooeee I felt like shit for a while. I got really hot, lightheaded and had the shakes. One time in 20 or so years.

This is why it always cracks me up when anti-vaxxers go on about big pharma pushing vaccines for profit. The government has to twist companies arms to produce vaccines. That’s why there are only a couple companies that make flu vaccines and if one of them has problems you can have shortages.

Whats more profitable, a single or in some cases two doses of vaccine or the ongoing cost of medications to treat the illness in an unvaccinated person.

It’s interesting, with every day counting so much right now, that he’s waiting until Friday or Saturday to unveil the pick he’s surely already made.

Because if he realizes it’s going to lose him the election and give McConnell more power… what’s in it for HIM? And if there’s nothing in it for him, what reason does he have to hurry?

MS just ships betas as if they were finished versions - that’s why the old wisdom was to never buy any MS ware at less than 3.0 so they might be slightly debugged.

The bigger problem is that MS is only interested in supporting Xbox and PCs.
