How does a company fuck you out of a 401k? That money is held in a trust that the company and it’s creditors can’t touch. It isn’t like a pension fund.

They underfund it for a couple of decades, at which point the current obligations of the fund eat the remaining capital that is there.
The other pension fund/ 401k game is to fully fund the plan consistently, make sure it’s in good investments, and have a five year vesting bar that is set up to give you zero if you aren’t vested. Then you consistently lay off or fire as many as you can get away with before they hit the five year mark for 10-20 years. You can also create a horrible work environment so they leave on their own before then. You sell the business and the buyer gets a huge pension fund with few liabilities.
