re: #283 steve_davis

im not worried about it. let the court do whatever it wishes. let it end aca. the first thing that would happen afterwards would be democrats, in control of all three branches of government, saying “okay, one thing we know that is not unconstitutional is expanding medicare to cover everyone. let’s do that.” and they would, because I can assure you by the time they put the bill together, republicans would have spent months blocking everything the House sends to the senate, and the senate would vote to change the rules to end procedural filibusters.

They can only change the rules at the beginning of the term. If they don’t do it in 2021, they won’t be able to do it again until 2023.

I was just thinking that if the ACA is gutted by the SCOTUS, my torn artery/stroke incident back in June would now count as a pre-existing condition and a premium would be priced as such wouldn’t it?

Yep. My husband and son would be uninsurable. Husband has heart disease, diabet es, sleep apnea and minor kidney damage. He’s on a half dozen different oral meds and insulin(which is being covered less and less). Son is on the autism spectrum. It’s easy for people with gold plated insurance to make sure no one else has anything close.

This is completely why I have to stay employed, even if the job becomes untenable. (Let me be clear, the job has not become untenable, but it has the potential to become such.) As it is, my company’s medication manager will not cover one of my medications, and sometime this week I’m going to have to shell out $625 to the pharmacy to get three months of gastric reflux medicine. So even those of us with halfway decent employer insurance are getting screwed over on the regular.

Oh God in heaven. I went to Twitter to see why “tuna” was trending and discovered my evil too big to fail employer is trending and not for anything good:

Wells Fargo CEO ruffles feathers with comments about diverse talent
“While it might sound like an excuse, the unfortunate reality is that there is a very limited pool of black talent to recruit from,” Scharf said in the memo.

Wells Fargo & Co Chief Executive Charles Scharf exasperated some Black employees in a Zoom meeting this summer when he reiterated that the bank had trouble reaching diversity goals because there was not enough qualified minority talent, two participants told Reuters.

He also made the assertion in a company-wide memo June 18 that announced diversity initiatives as nationwide protests broke out following the death of George Floyd, an unarmed African-American man, in police custody.

“While it might sound like an excuse, the unfortunate reality is that there is a very limited pool of black talent to recruit from,” Scharf said in the memo, seen by Reuters.

Scharf spent more time listening than speaking during the 90-minute call which he initiated and has not been previously reported. His comments about Black talent rubbed some attendees the wrong way, according to the two employees, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because they feared repercussions.

Not all attendees recalled being offended. “The meeting was incredibly constructive… I walked away being incredibly surprised at how genuine and sincere he is,” said Alex David, president of the Black/African American Connection Team Member Network.

But several Black senior executives across corporate America said they are frustrated by claims of a talent shortage, and called the refrain a major reason that companies have struggled to add enough racial and ethnic diversity to leadership ranks, despite stated intentions to do so.

And yes, this is a problem with banks. It’s been a problem with banks for a long time. I remember when I worked for the former First Security Bank, which was to merge with the still existing Zions Bank, the top three management tiers of the merged bank were released. And they were all white guys. The merger office was down the hall from my office and my boss and I (mostly me) typed up a brief unsigned letter asking if there was room for women and minorities in the new First Security, and shoved it under the door.

Well, as it turned out, Zions Bank shareholders voted not to merge, and 10 days later Wells Fargo bought First Security. But we still have the problem with the highest jobs being filled mostly by white guys.

while I understand that Sam is “perturbed”, maybe its because of actually focusing on issues that are of major concern to the voters in this country that the Press continues to ask Biden questions straight from the GOP talking points memo with GOP framing.

Just a guess, so perhaps when Mr. Stein and his ilk get done examining their own alimentary canals, they could actually do some real fucking journalism like…. why does the President lie about every fucking thing? Did the WH actually order his Postmaster General to fuck up the mail in voting process or was that merely implied? Why does this administration to this day soft pedal a federal response to an ongoing pandemic? Why is the Administration actively fudging the CDC numbers?

Maybe you guys could actually find a way to hold the GOP accountable for the shit that they say and what they do.
