Colbert: “When They Go Low, They Can Always Go Lower”

After a chaotic embarrassment of a debate on Tuesday night, during which the President refused to denounce white supremacists and courted the Proud Boys, Trump faced the press on Wednesday and again refused to create any daylight between himself and racist hate groups. #Colbert #Debate2020 #Monologue

Trump just now: “I lose Minnesota, I’m never coming back — I don’t care.”

And he says this as if it’s a BAD thing…?

dangerman  Oct 1, 2020 • 11:04:31am

another one who wouldnt say anything when he had the power and instead just waited and wrote a book

Former CIA Director John Brennan has an excerpt of his new book, Undaunted, in The Atlantic: “His alertness never faded during the briefing, but his demeanor as well as his questions strongly revealed that he was uninterested in finding out what the Russians had done or holding them to account…”

“It also was my clear impression — based on the thousands of such briefings I have conducted over more than three decades — that he was seeking most to learn what we knew and how we knew it. This deeply troubled me, as I worried about what he might do with the information he was being given… As the briefing was beginning to wrap up, Trump looked at me and made unsolicited disparaging remarks about human sources.”

how much more of this needs to come out before someone who can do anything about it will rightfully accuse him of treason?
meanwhile he still gets to appoint scotus judges

Earlier today, we also learned that in her disclosures to the Judiciary Committee she was asked to list the 10 most significant cases she participated in.

She could name only 3.

Not only is she unqualified, but she’s the typical right wing extremist Heritage/Federalist want on the bench to gut the safety net, roll back rights, and allow millionaires to do as they please while the burdens fall on those least able to endure them (the right wing natural order).

La Crosse Mayor Tim Kabat tells me the city’s airport has been notified Air Force One will no longer be arriving on Saturday, when President Trump was supposed to hold one of two rallies in Wisconsin this weekend.

SOOO glad to hear that! La Crosse is just across the river from MN and very close to Winona, a city that’s been hit badly due to the college there. I hope it’s completely cancelled so that super spreader won’t make things worse down there.

Wisconsin is currently experiencing exponential COVID growth, particularly in the areas where his rallies were to be held. We know he gives not one crap about his followers, so perhaps it’s so bad he got scared for himself?

September 17 Arriving via Central Wisconsin Airport, President Trump held a “Great American Comeback Event” at Central Wisconsin Aviation.
October 1 Wisconsin 2,887 new cases

September 18 Arriving via Bemidji Regional Airport, President Trump held a “Great American Comeback Event” at Bemidji Aviation Services.
October 1 Minnesota 1,066 new cases

September 19 President Trump held a “Great American Comeback Event” at Fayetteville Regional Airport
October 1 North Carolina 2,277 new cases

September 21 Arriving via Dayton International Airport, President Trump delivered remarks on “Fighting for the American Worker” at Wright Bros Aero. He then flew to Toledo Express Airport, and held a “Great American Comeback Event” at Grande Air.
October 1 Ohio 1,289 new cases

And on and on. Causation/correlation? Who the fuck knows.

I think the insider trading is the stronger case. One could make a case that RICO (suave) is a possibility. There’s a lot of conspiracy (criminal variety) with the GOP these days, and some of this would be considered protected as policy decisions, and prosecuting someone for a policy decision is a slippery slope - because the GOP could turn around and prosecute someone (and you know they would).

The pardon power only applies to federal crimes. Even if Trump tries to pardon his way out of it, he faces state crimes - and opens the door to all his cronies having to testify under oath.

He would also likely face criminal cases overseas too based on the financial crimes we’re seeing uncovered in the Times spread.

Boston Cardinal O’Malley and his brother bishops in the United States clearly got the memo. Tuesday, the Boston prelate and eight others gathered at the border between the Arizona and Mexico and railed against the unjust immigration system that has caused the death of an estimated 6,000 persons trying to enter into the United States since 1998.

I have a question.

If a guy was a part owner of a day spa that included massage therapists, and if this part owner exposed himself and masturbated in front of one of the therapists at least 50 times (per her own account), would that be some sort of sexual assault? The day spa was located in Georgia.

Unfortunately. the guy who is alleged to have done this died last May, but I’ve got a personal campaign going to try and get his heirs to release a woman he sexted with from the NDA she was pressured to sign. So knowing if late apologist and evangelist Ravi Zacharias could have been prosecuted would be useful.

- as there was no actual debate of substance, he didnt ‘lose’ on knowledge, substance, being president or anything like that.

Rep. Steve King (R-IA) defended his past remarks on white nationalism during a fiery speech on the House floor.

Said King: “I’ll say two years ago when this came down, people didn’t understand what’s happening. But today western civilization is under assault, and I have been 100 percent correct on this. I’ve been more correct on this than I thought I was going to be.”

“And perhaps more than any briefing before it, it reinforced the White House’s credibility problem.”

“Press secretary Kayleigh McEnany’s briefing was contentious on a level we’ve rarely seen, even in this White House. McEnany attempted to turn aside questions about Trump’s wishy-washy comments on self-declared white supremacists and his dubious claims about mail-in voting, while playing up Supreme Court nominee, Judge Amy Coney Barrett.”

this just means that Trump will feel compelled to resort to even more extreme and drastic measures to prevent losing

We have never known an election like this: one in which the incumbent knows that he will be facing state and federal charges as soon as he loses Presidential immunity.

One in which he is not only backed by a criminal organization, a meddling foreign government but also the full powers of the Executive Branch

And one in which the media have no vested interest in losing a source of round-the-clock entertainment, scandals involving associates and family, outrageous tweets and statements, gaffes, rallies, etc…ratings gold, in favor of a perhaps more competent but not as flashy and newsworthy opponent.

I’m not going to lie, I’m starting to recover my confidence at this point. The more-or-less legal voter suppression methods they’re using haven’t seemed to slow the unending tide of negative publicity or ratings losses. I think, at this point, the most likely scenario is:

1) Trump and Co. try something blatantly illegal
2) The media make some halfhearted attempts at calling him out, expressing “concern”
3) Some popular social media legal eagle starts a fire
4) Trump and Co realize, in that moment, they fucked up
5) The measure is quietly revoked behind the scenes

So the great License Renewal journey is over for me.

The closest DMV office to my home is open 8 am - 5 pm. I got there just before 9. You can either book an appointment ahead of time (which I didn’t know beforehand) or sign up as a walk-in and they’ll get to you when they can get to you. Now I was already expecting to wait at least couple of hours so whatever. They aren’t letting anyone inside except those who are being serviced due to Covid-19 so everyone had to wait outside either in their cars or in the general vicinity of the office.

12 PM rolls around and after waiting for three hours with no encouraging signs, I go back up to the door and ask if they have any idea how long it might be.

Door lady: “2 to 3 hours”

Me: “You’ve got to be kidding me”

DL: “You should have made an appointment, it’s much faster”

Yes, thank you, I came to this realization about two hours ago.

So I go on to the Bureau of Motor Vehicles website to see if I can get an appointment. None are available until this coming Tuesday. ARRRRGH. I really didn’t count on being at the DMV for six hours today. I’m hungry, I’m thirsty, I’m slightly aggravated. I just want this DONE.

There is another DMV office in the area but it’s about a 35 minute drive out of my way. I decided to check availability there: WIDE OPEN for the afternoon. Go figure. So I book myself a 1 PM slot and leave the office I was at to head over there.

When I arrive, I immediately get ushered into line. Aha! Progress. I finally get to the counter and it takes the lady a while to process everything because she has to put in a bunch of information from my green card to make it all work (note: Needing to present the green card is also why I can NOT renew my license online). It looks Iike I’m almost home free when suddenly her computer goes bananas and she has spend time tracking down a coworker to help her with it.

Apparently, it’s something to do with some of the required DHS checks (i.e. their systems don’t work well with the DMV systems) but after about five minutes, they’ve fixed the problem. Time to pay and get this over with.

But then the machine won’t accept my card.

I swipe it again, same result. Then the lady asks me if I have cash or another card.

I do not have cash. I do have another card…but I left it in my car. Annnd I’d have to login to my bank app to transfer money to that card to make this whole thing work. That would mean going back to my car, doing all the money stuff, coming back into the DMV, waiting some more and then trying again with the new card and hope it didn’t fail yet again.

As I am standing there mentally cursing the DMV / gaming out how I am going to make this card thing work (I swear I am NOT making this next part up), the guy at the station next to me hands a $100 bill to the lady I am working with and says “I’ll cover it for him.”

I was stunned. I even asked the guy if he was serious. He said he was. That’s $25 I didn’t have to pay.

Bro, I don’t know who you are but THANK YOU for turning around what had until that point been a very aggravating day.

An hour and twenty minutes after I got my updated license, I got a call from the first DMV office I went to.

They were ready for me now.

The counter-argument is the handful of cases that the Trump campaign or their state-level enablers in the GOP have lost in just recent weeks involving efforts to narrow or strike down accommodations made to voters using mail-in ballots or early voting. If he doesn’t win outright, then his only course runs through the judicial system. And even that strategy relies heavily upon the election being so close that shredding a few thousand votes could alter the results. If it ends up being a blow-out, which the polls are suggesting is a very real possibility, then even the courts won’t be able to save his ass.

FINALLY!

On Thursday, Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel announced a pair of infamous Republican tricksters have been charged with multiple felonies for a series of scam robocalls designed to trick voters out of voting by mail.

Jacob Wohl and Jack Burkman, who are known for a number of failed schemes including paying off a woman to accuse Dr. Anthony Fauci of sexual assault, are charged with voter intimidation, election conspiracy, and two computer crimes. Their robocall, targeted to Detroit and other Democratic-heavy urban areas, allegedly warned voters — falsely — that a vote by mail would give the voter’s personal information to police, debt collectors, and public health officials administering mandatory vaccines.

My father’s long care facility in the Bismarck-Mandan area went the entire summer without one case. Now, in the last three weeks due to Sturgis, Labor Day, and a general ND statewide covid-is-not-worth-a-small-sacrifice attitude, over 20% of the residents have tested positive and at least 15 staff members too. At least three dead residents and some in ICU. I think they wrote 6 residents recovered. My dad is OK so far but we’ve had a couple scares already and obviously stay concerned as he’s in his 90s.

My 80yo father-in-law spent at least 9 weeks in ICU in Maine this summer and nearly three months hospitalized. He’s ‘recovered’ but still has a lot of rehab left.

And I have to deal with a neighbor who thinks we all should just get it and get over it and on with life. My mentioning my father-in-law only got a “well, he’s old anyway” response. No concern about denying them one last chance to see grand kids or anything. At least the neighbor is still having all his church friends meet at his house. People *sigh*
