Doctors, Nurses and ALL at the GREAT Walter Reed Medical Center, and others from likewise incredible institutions who have joined them, are AMAZING!!

—Donald Trump.

Yay for socialist medicine!

Like any African dictator when Trump needs medical care he leaves his people to the anarchic underfunded system he has left in place while he flies off to government supported treatment in a first world country.

You can really feel the disappointment in the pundit class that The Apprentice: White House Edition might not only be canceled next month, but that the star might not be around for the remainder of the last season. And what that will mean for the rest of the cast that we’ve all come to know and hate.

The Sunday shows are gonna be basically one long series of WH lackeys lying their asses off about how “awesome” their boss’ condition is, Repubs lying that the virus ravaging their party in the last weeks of the election won’t matter, and the token Dems being asked to explain why Biden isn’t a big meanie for refusing to give Trump a mulligan on his failing campaign due to his sudden illness.

So good chance the ‘anonymous’ quote that the President’s health is much worse than is being revealed comes from the Whitehouse Chief of Staff.

I have a question about the hospital President Trump is being treated in, Walter Reed? It’s a military hospital if I understand it correctly, usually treating service personnel and veterans. How many COVID-19 patients have they dealt with in the past six months? Do the medical staff there actually have much (or any) experience in treating patients, especially geriatric patients with this particular disease? Would President Trump be in better hands being treated in a mainline Washington DC hospital where they’ve had hundreds or even thousands of COVID-19 patients to gain experience on since the outbreak started.

Walter Reed is the designated treatment facility for the President of the United States. They are kept up-to-date on any information they need, and if they don’t know something or don’t have something, they can get it. For all we know, they may have retained a doctor from one of those hospitals to advise the President’s care team.

In any Sci-fi fictional universe that uses a type of Warp Drive rather than Hyperspace Jump or Wormholes as a method of FTL, such a thing might destroy the entire planet Mars…

which is still keeping in character with something Trump would do if he could.

Ignoring the warnings from experts, believing you know best… I mean, believing it you know best and that it’ll never happen to you is the sort of arrogance that leads either to an “at risk survivor” status or winning the award itself.

Technically, a Darwin Award is someone who removes himself or herself from the reproductive pool. Trump already has spawn, so unless he kills off all his kids, it’s just an honorable mention.

This makes me think we need to try out George Carlin’s “Slugfest” idea. We put all these “Alpha Male” Jackasses in one of the giant square states, fence it off, and supply them with unlimited cocaine and PCP. Don’t open the gate until they have all killed each other.

Meanwhile the rest of us will get on with our lives and making the world a better place.

Number of new cases in Russia is back to where they were in May. I wonder if some oligarchs are tired of Putin and leaking data to undermine him. Russia was showing a steady decline until about a month ago and now the counts are rising steadily, doubling over that period. The oligarchs may be very unhappy if they are seeing widespread mishandling of the pandemic, which may personally affect them and their loved ones.

To be fair, that seems to be the same pattern as a lot of Europe. Spain, France, Belgium, the Netherlands and the UK to a lesser extent are seeing huge spikes after seemingly having things under control.

There are several reasons I don’t want Cheeto to actually die.

The most important is that he should stand trial, with all the rottenness and treason of the GOP exposed in the process. In fact, since he is an opportunist rather than committed Republican ideologue, he might well turn on his accomplices in the GOP hierarchy and media, sending the whole gang to prison en masse.

Their president has proven he’s only their president, and the rest of us can die, they do not care what it costs them to do so. My hope is that there are undercover guys from the FBI in some of these groups at least. They are quite open about their hatred, it may be a bit easier to infiltrate and destroy these groups once they cross legal lines. Not holding my breath, just trying to be hopeful.

Oh, I’m sure we’ll see something like an OKC bombing - they’ll claim they were “striking out against the Deep State” or some such nonsense. Unfortunately, I fully anticipate an event like that happening.

The thing is, he’ll never see the inside of a prison even if he is convicted. The logistic implications would be too much for any institution to be able to manage. Every second he would spend in a prison would be a potential riot, started either by people who want to take him out, or those who support him. Add in the fact that, by law, he is entitled to lifetime protection from Secret Service agents and things become even more problematic.

From a security standpoint, it’s just not a realistic proposition no matter how much he deserves it.

I want to see him convicted and humiliated, but realistically, the best we’re ever going to see for Trump is home confinement and (hopefully) massive fines that leave him destitute.

Now Ivanka, Eric, and Jr……that’s a whole different ballgame.

I am assuming he wouldn’t be put in general population at even a low security prison. There must be some prison with some space to set aside so that he wouldn’t actually be in contact with other prisoners, and so that Secret Service agents would not have to deal with anyone other than prison staff (presumably the ones assigned to that area would be carefully vetted.) He has put the Secret Service through enough; they don’t need any extra shit on his behalf.
I still think you are right - I won’t get to see him locked up. I think the stress of a criminal trial, knowing he is finally in a situation he can’t lie or weasel his way out of, would kill him well before the rendering of a verdict. I don’t think he could avoid a trial by plea bargaining - I don’t think he would let his lawyers concede any culpability on his part, and I really don’t see him enunciating his bad deeds either.

Even separating him wouldn’t be enough. Just his being in the facility would likely be enough to spark riots (or incidents from outside groups who would reject his conviction and want to free him).

About the only place I can think of that you could actually incarcerate him with any degree of safety would be Gitmo and I don’t think anyone has the stomach or the balls to put a former president there.

Chuck Grassley tells Bill Barr to hold his beer.

U.S. Sen. Chuck Grassley will not be tested for the coronavirus, despite attending a Senate Judiciary Committee meeting with a fellow senator who later tested positive for the virus, the Iowa senator’s staff said Friday.

“Sen. Grassley’s doctors have not recommended he be tested as he has not come into close contact with anyone suspected of having or confirmed to have coronavirus,” Grassley’s spokesman, Michael Zona, said in a statement.

Grassley attended a meeting Thursday with U.S. Sen. Mike Lee, a Republican from Utah who later tested positive for the virus. Des Moines Register

And it will be a day of jubilee for Chief Justice John Roberts. Charles Pierce

To distract you from the perils of President* Zero in the White House, the Supreme Court seems to be warming up to murder what’s left of the Voting Rights Act. The one tooth that this Court left in the mouth of the VRA was Section 2, the provision that said the VRA can be used to overturn state laws that have a disproportionate impact on minority voters. Agreeing to hear this Arizona case gives the Court a chance to extract that last remaining canine.

I honestly don’t think it would spark riots within the prison, as long as he remains completely segregated (see how YOU like it, you no-renting-to-Blacks bastard!)
As for any outside groups trying to assault the facility, just fucking shoot them. A small on-site facility-defense team, with the ability to very quickly summon backup, should be more than enough to repel Meal Team Six, Alfalfa Squad.
Given how actually tough those goobers seem to be, a troop of Girl Scouts with slingshots would probably do.

Norman Spinrad wrote such a story: In “World War Last”, the Politburo had a problem. Their leader died, and there was no consensus on a successor. The body of the old leader wasn’t decomposed yet, so…

The story also featured a used-car dealer as president, “Uncle Sam” and an insane hash-head in the Middle East looking for nukes and weapon systems suspiciously similar to videogame hardware.

I considered Spinrad to be essential preparation for this time period.

re: #51 A Mom Anon

My concern, as I have said before, is that we’re looking at an OKC type bombing or a mass shooting like in Las Vegas, or a series of them. They want us dead, they’ve said it often.

I don’t think anyone can get that much fertilizer these days, and Vegas is open, kind of, but not allowing mass gatherings like that music festival. So they’d have to think up something else. Not their strong suit, although it can’t be dismissed entirely. Also, they don’t strike me as suicide bomber types — who could they whine to if they were dead?

It’s one month til the votes are due. We’re already voting (I’ve got my mail in already filled out and ready to get dropped off at the official ballot drop box on Monday).

Votes have to be in by Election Day in most states (or postmarked, depending on individual state rules - check yours to be absolutely sure).

Here in NJ, there’s several ballot questions as well - on the back of one of two ballot sheets that you need to fill out.

There’s a marijuana question, a veteran’s tax exemption question, and a question of what to do if the census is not complete in time to apportion seats in the state.

True.

The debate commission should propose that Trump do the next debate remotely.

All of them will be seated. Biden in studio, presenter in studio, and Trump either at the hospital or at the WH.

Trump will hate that because it means his mic will be cut off when it is not his turn to speak. So I kind of doubt he’d agree to it.

re: #284 BeachDem

Quick break from the Jaime/Lindsey debate. I didn’t think I could hate Lindsey any more than I did, but I was wrong. What an arrogant, lying scumbag.

He’s claiming a D house and senate would end the electoral college. Anybody who’s ever read the constitution, anybody who knows the amendment process, knows that’s TOTALLY impossible. But he’s said it three times already.

re: #279 NO SMOCKING GUN!

“While most patients recover in about a week, a significant minority of patients enter “a very nasty second wave” of illness, said Dr. Ilan Schwartz, assistant professor of infectious disease at the University of Alberta. “After the initial symptoms, things plateau and maybe even improve a little bit, and then there is a secondary worsening.”

While every patient is different, doctors say that days five through 10 of the illness are often the most worrisome time for respiratory complications of Covid-19, particularly for older patients and those with underlying conditions like high blood pressure, obesity or diabetes. Younger patients who develop complications may begin struggling a little later, as late as days 10 to 12. Most people who reach day 14 without any worrying symptoms (other than feeling miserable and fatigued) are likely to be on the road to recovery.”

I know what DM stands for, just wasn’t sure what “for signal” meant.

Signal is an encrypted chat and messaging app.
