Someone should ask her what rights she thinks Jews, Hindus, and Muslims have.

And yes, I know what some people here are going to say.

And there’s the follow up question. What constitutes a legitimate religion and who gets to decide?

She probably thinks they are all hypothetical entities.
Since they are all obviously Christians who simply have not realized it yet.

It’s pretty rich given the reaction I recall when Christie appointed a Muslim-American as a judge.

The traditional answer to that is that the court doesn’t question the legitimacy of a person’s faith.

So if my religion includes the right to plural marriage, abortion, or to chase Brown people out of my neighborhood, that’s A-OK?

Filling out my ballot, for the County board of supervisors I have a choice between a long-time local Republican apparatchik and this guy:

stevevaus.com

I notice the local Democratic party decided to not support anyone for this district.

It’s supposed to be a “non-partisan” position, but those claims are always lies.

Especially when one candidate is a Republican former state legislator with a long record of being a Republican mechanic.

I’m glad I read the instructions on the mail in ballot, which says to sign the envelope exactly as on the driver’s license.

I had forgotten how I signed that… turns out I only used my initials.

So glad I checked, because these days I pretty much don’t use my initials anymore.

Barrett may think so.

I doubt that. She may think Christian beliefs are absolutely protected, but life would be utterly chaotic if Muslims and Mormons could practice polygamy while others couldn’t. She would never stand for the idea that someone’s religious beliefs require she have an abortion.

Said the increased moisture levels were affecting his car electronics ???!

Said Trump would fix it with his program to plant one billion trees per year. GAK!

Absolutely. Unless you understand the fruitless attempts to get Mnuchin to get Trump to agree to anything and understand how hard the Dems have worked to get some kind of meaningful deal—and unless you understand that there are plenty of diehards like Marsha Blackburn who have pledged to vote against anything that HELPS THE DEMOCRATS, and until Wolf has given that context, his questioning was offensive as hell. Good for Nancy.

I keep changing my mind, on how many votes Trump will get.

Part of my brain thinks he’ll be down only a couple of million votes, to say around 60M. This based on every Trumper still being a Trumper save for those who have died the past 4 years.

OTOH, Trump has succeeded in insulting a lot of people, and some of the religious are in angst and trying to convince themselves to vote Republican anyway. The pandemic shows that decisions at the top do affect every day lives of ordinary Americans rather quickly. While this won’t sway the masses, I can see enough Americans just being disgusted by the whole thing that they just won’t vote. They won’t vote for Biden (and definitely not for Harris), but they won’t vote for Trump either, so they’ll just sit this one out.

That asshole has never saved anything or anyone in his whole life. The suburbs are full of people who can work from home. Things are trying to be normal, schools open and have to close shortly after, pretty much everything is open unless it’s a small business that’s not coming back. Those who have to work are struggling to make it. I expect to see a lot of foreclosed homes ( for people who are often over leveraged without a pandemic to make shit worse) and homes for sale in the coming months. I’m fairly certain that’s not saving shit. I’d also bet that some of these families will end up wishing like hell there was affordable housing somewhere nearby.

Western Pa going Joe’s way would make me so happy. I have no illusions about the racism that exists there but I want the region that gave my immigrant family a chance to reject the most racist and corrupt and evil potus in history. I’m fucking angry he’s there.

Happy it hurts that my home of Beaver County was once bright blue but is now deep crimson red thanks to Right Wing Jesus.

This was painted over for the Spanish American War but was normally polished to dazzling brilliance.

I am so glad that USS Olympia is still with us. The original pocket battleship, long before Germany tried it and then actually succeeded at it (Battle of Manila Bay), unlike the German ships.

Federal Agents Raid Home Of Pittsburgh-Area Mail Carrier, Collect Bags Of Suspected Undelivered Mail

Special agents from the United States Postal Service raided the home of an Allegheny County mail carrier over the weekend.

“Special Agents recovered several different classes of mail, including business mail, flats, and small amount of first class mail. We expect to perform a piece count of the mail tomorrow, and make arrangements to have to mail delivered to customers as soon as feasible,” the statement said.

But neighbors who did not want to be identified said they suspect other mail has already found its way to the landfill. Neighbors say trash bags, like the ones shown in a photo from two weeks ago, have been put outside Troesch’s house almost every Sunday night for Monday morning pickup.

I should make clear, every state in our great country has something beautiful about it. I’ve been around the foothills of West Virginia, and while there’s a definite Deliverance vibe about being way off the beaten track, the mountains are absolutely stunning and the shacks squatting on their flanks lend a humble vintage flair to the scene. If I say I don’t want to live somewhere, it’s far more to do with the socio-political conditions therein than anything inherent to the state.

In an attempt to be diplomatic to these people…

My answer is voting 3rd party never works, and it’s always propped up and supported by the polar opposite of what you want. If you are voting for anyone but Biden now you are given thumbs up to Trump stealing the election, and I don’t care how you try to justify it. It’s like rooting for a team in the Super Bowl that isn’t playing and didn’t make it to the playoffs.

Convince people to support your party years, not weeks before the election.
Shoot for local elections and congress first, not a stunt hail-mary for president. That’s like trying to get hired as CEO of a Fortune 500 corporation 5 minutes after you leave college with an MBA.

There’s always going to be only 2 because that’s how it happens. We don’t have a Parliamentary system. Coalition building between related but differing political views is done outside of government, not in it.

Try to make your party one of those 2 *WAY* before you try to purity pony your way into losing an election and turning the US into Gilead or the Großere Amerikanische Reich. Because Biden wants ACA with Public Option instead of M4ARFN!!!!11ty

Panhandle Public Health District has moved the Panhandle and Grant County to “high risk” of transmission.

This should trigger shutdowns across the region, but we’ll see if Governor Ameritrade actually does it.

PPHD’s director has been pretty good about standing up to Pete Ricketts (she politely told him to piss off when Covid-19 hit and she quarantined the whole Panhandle back in February, delaying our first case until April 1).

All the largest cities and villages have been moved to “high,” though the same three towns have no cases (mine, Lisco, and Llewellyn).

Too many progressives have a top down strategy—-aiming for the top rung of power so they wring change from the top.

That’s antithetical to their own political philosophy, which emphasizes that power resides in the grassroots, from the people up.

Ass backwards for the change they want; they’re using authoritarian tactics to implement a grassroots philosophy??? Yeah…no.

It’s long been an unspoken practice of both parties to nominate Catholics, as they are viewed as having a religiously-centred set of morals. Protestants less so, and if you nominated an atheist Christians would set fire to the White House.

The Panhandle Public Health District joined 14 health districts on Monday, moving into the high or elevated risk exposure level for COVID-19. The majority of Nebraska is now in the high-risk level and residents are advised to take extra precautions to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.

Each Monday, PPHD announces the level of risk on a dial that has been being used since July as an illustration. Health districts throughout the state use a similar dial, and only four health districts remain in the moderate level: North Central Health District (Valentine) Three Rivers Health Department (Fremont), Sarpy/Cass County Health Department (Crete), and the Public Health Solutions Health District (Papillion).

And that he kind of needs South Bend and St. Joseph County to vote for him if he’s gonna win Indiana.

There haven’t been many polls, and it’s unlikely as hell, but if there’s big turnout in NW Indiana and Indianapolis… and if stupid shit like this turns off white women voters in South Bend and Fort Wayne and they don’t come out in droves to vote for him, he might end up with Indiana closer than he’s expecting.

At their full price, it’s hard to make a strong argument for either the 5DS or 5DS R. But at just one-third their normal price, suddenly the two aged cameras are significantly more compelling: 50 megapixels for less than $1500 makes these cameras the most affordable high-megapixel cameras currently available. Though they lack the latest technology, both cameras would do well in a studio setting where lighting and environment can be fully controlled, such either product or portraiture.

This things are more marketing gimmicks than anything else.

The original 5D only had 12megapixels, less than other full frame cameras, and the larger photodiode size helped it achieve a quality that the smaller photodiodes (from the never ending quest to have the most megapixels) cannot do.

Because physics limits what can be done. Not just the device structure itself, but the nature of light.

The reality is that digital imaging has democratized imaging much more than film could ever do. But there are tradeoffs.

In the case of megapixel-mania, it’s the customers are wowed by large numbers but don’t understand the tradeoffs that have to be made to get those massive number of pixels.

But what I can’t figure out is why. The counties they’re targeting, and the places they’ve put the boxes practically guarantee that the ballots they collect will be repug votes. So what do they think they’re doing?

You can tell a lot about potential Cabinet nominees by the terrorist group they shill for.

As President-elect Donald Trump settles on his nominees for secretary of state and other front-row positions, he has his pick of people who have lobbied for the bizarre and brutal Mujahidin e-Khalq (MeK), an Iranian resistance group that helped launch the Islamic revolution and then fell out with the Tehran regime. The MeK has plenty of American blood on its hands, as well as that of thousands of Iranians killed while the group was a strike force serving Saddam Hussein in the 1980s and ’90s.

How We Found UK Anti-Riot Gear Being Used by US Police Against Journalists and Demonstrators at BLM Protests (Bell¿ngcat)

Open source evidence has shown that UK-made equipment was used by police to repress peaceful demonstrations and to harm media covering Black Lives Matter (BLM) protests in the United States.

This is contrary to the findings by a British government review to assess if it should still allow the export of British-made crowd-control kits to the US.

Those findings stated there was “no evidence” that UK-made anti-riot gear was used by American police during BLM protests, although there was a “possibility” it had been given the wide number of end users for such products across the US.

This article will detail how open source information helped us identify UK anti-riot equipment in the hands of US police at BLM protests, as well as how it was used.

Putting his name on or in something is the only way to get him to pay attention to it in the first place.

re: #259 Love-Child of Cassandra and Sisyphus

While I do expect Trump to lose (after all, Biden just has to flip a couple of states that were very close only because Clinton was tarred with so much bullshit over the years), the Trumpers will not go away.

They will continue to evolve as a cult. They will cause problems in governance.

It’s as if the Birch Society hooked up with the Area 51 nuts and the love-child is some beastly conspiratorial fear fest.

Make not mistake, Trump has succeeded in making a “base” that is going to infect the American civil process for decades to come.

Even if Trump goes to jail.

You are correct. What we will have to do is keep winning, and make it poison for a party to rely on them.

The cult will now turn against this SEAL. Happy Navy’s Birthday, dude.

(By the way, Trump wished the Navy a happy birthday, but not his daughter Tiffany, who’s birthday is also October 13.)

re: #198 gwangung

Too many progressives have a top down strategy—-aiming for the top rung of power so they wring change from the top.

That’s antithetical to their own political philosophy, which emphasizes that power resides in the grassroots, from the people up.

Ass backwards for the change they want; they’re using authoritarian tactics to implement a grassroots philosophy??? Yeah…no.

The purity pony crowd work under the same fantasy that MAGAts do: A president can rule by fiat, that his power is effectively limitless, and Congress exists to enact his will. And if anybody tries to constrain him or oppose his will, then “the people” will rise up and scare them into submission. IOW, the only difference between Berners and MAGAts is ideological, both have identical views of how the country should operate.

I have to imagine he gets tagged in tens of thousands of tweets every day most of which he really doesn’t want to read. How does he manage to pluck out the crazy stuff.

One of the handful of nuts he follows must have retweeted it first

There’s a lot of choices over what needs to be done first if Democrats take both chambers, but, if Barrett is confirmed, the first bill will need to be court reform. Not only because it will give the most time to get justices on, but we will need to get enough on the Supreme Court to keep them from blocking other legislation.

So in a single day, Trump manages to piss off the senior vote, the military vote, and the suburban white woman vote.

It’s like he’s trying to burn down his campaign for the insurance money.

I think it’s the mob training he got. “Now Don, when the Feds are sniffing around and you know it ain’t long before they find somethin’, here’s what you do….”

Mebbe someone should check to see if he took the campaign money and bet it at Ladbrokes. It’s *currently* offering 4/9 odds on Biden winning and 7/4 odds on Trump winning. Since I don’t understand betting odds like these, I’ll let someone else figure it out. In any case, I am joking. I hope. I think.

Somebody really ought to take Donny aside and inform him that you can’t claim you “would have won” if you deliberately sabotaged your own campaign.

That asshat is going to win and be my “representative” because all the old white people out here think his opponent Ammar Campa-Najjar was in Hezbollah or some stupid shit. He’s gone as far as meeting with known racist militia groups in East County to try to… I don’t know, something… but nope. ARAB-MEXICAN!!111!ty

They were also totally OK with voting for a criminal last time, why not this time too. I really hate this part of San Diego County.

Hmmm.

Kearney hospital using drugs that can ease COVID-19 symptoms (Grand Island, Nebr. Independent)

KEARNEY — Remdesivir and dexamethasone, two of the drugs given to President Donald Trump when he was diagnosed with COVID-19, are being used on some COVID-19 patients at Kearney Regional Medical Center, according to Dr. Shanna Stofer, KRMC’s director of clinical services and pharmacy.

Remdesivir shows “great promise” in easing COVID-19 symptoms, she said.

Stofer said remdesivir usually is given to patients who show symptoms of “a little more advanced” COVID-19, such as those who require supplemental oxygen. It must be given intravenously, so it cannot be given to outpatients. It is considered safe as long as patients have good kidney and liver function.

Early in the pandemic, the U.S. Health and Human Services Department regulated the disbursement of remdesivir, but since Oct. 1, hospitals can obtain it like all other drugs.

Stofer said studies have shown that remdesivir can shorten the course of COVID-19, “but we have not seen that in every single patient,” she said. “The average length of recovery for the whole disease is about 15 days, and this could shorten that to 10 days or so, but that has not been proven.”

She added, “I caution the use of the phrase ‘this will do that.’ The intent of the drug is to try to shorten the course or severity of the disease process.”
