CLed (may her memory be a blessing) from last string.

I voted today, and may whatever gods exist curse Trump and the golden-calf church cults and the Putin-whorehouse media that support him and incite the genocidal fascist traitors who form his “base.”

There was a little dweeb with a visible side-arm hanging around giving people the eye right at the distance limit from the polling place. He was kind of scampering around and frankly looked scared to death. Of course, I had left my handgun (which I carry all the time now) in the car because I was voting.

Be prepared to defend yourselves, people.

This is getting real and the right-wing terrorists of the yokel gentry are utterly desperate with the fear of lost privilege. They also have all the arrogance that their delusional “churches” and traitor-media can provide. One advantage we have: the traitors and plague-rat tools still think they have all the guns. Piss on them.

The world has changed and it will NEVER go back.

Wife has expressed concern over post-election violence. Concern, like: “How much 12 ga ammo do we have?”

As befits the daughter of a WWII/Korea senior NCO.

They are utterly incompetent. Comey’s BUTTER EMAILS, while complete bullshit, was at least plausible enough to engender doubt, and - most importantly - raise the specter of the Clinton Legacy among voters who were already partially inclined to vote against her on account of her husband. These guys are literally throwing shit at the wall and hoping something sticks.

The elections for the Scottish Parliament will be held next May, 2021 (an SNP rout of the other parties is expected). Sixteen year-olds can vote in that election. When the Scottish Independence Referendum was held back in 2014 sixteen year-olds were also allowed to vote in that too. That referendum, by the way, had a 90% turnout of registered voters.

Yes — good point. I primarily focus on deaths because case numbers are less reliable, especially for states hard hit at the beginning, when those who weren’t hospitalized often weren’t tested. Of course, it’s still true that those with mild symptoms often don’t get tested and therefore are excluded from the statistics.

A friend, who lives less than a mile from me, moved to Illinois from Wisconsin about 4 years ago. She is absolutely frantic about the possibility that Wisconsin will again go red — because Trump is paying more visits there than the Biden campaign. All I can think is these “swing states” are prima donnas if they expect the campaigns, in the year of the plague, to be catering to their every whim by making repeated physical trips to the state, and it doesn’t speak well of their residents if this is how they react. But then Wisconsin did elect Ron Johnson, a definite black mark against their judgement.

So how many Republicans are just trying to save their own skin for 2022, or 2024?

That is, they know that the blow-back against Trump will only climb with time, and these Republicans are trying to strategize in how to save the “GOP” brand?

62
Love-Child of Cassandra and Sisyphus  Oct 21, 2020 • 7:40:02pm

And how many of these Republicans would support Trump’s policies, perhaps all of them, if only said policies were enacted by an erudite, polite President?

Exactly.

So these same Republicans will run in 2022 and 2024, and their platform is that they supported Biden because they thought Biden was a moderate, but instead Biden was a “radical leftist” and “Anit-American” carrying on Obama’s policy of traveling around the world apologizing for America.

Just wait for it.

Do we know how old Giuliani thought she was? Borat apparently rushes in at the end with his claim that she was 15, but Giuliani may have not been told any age at the beginning and judged her age by her appearance.

Yeah from what I’m gathering, at the end, Borat comes in and says something to the effect of “She’s 15. She’s too old for you!”

Not sure if he was told her age before the hotel room.

re: #51 Hecuba’s daughter

A friend, who lives less than a mile from me, moved to Illinois from Wisconsin about 4 years ago. She is absolutely frantic about the possibility that Wisconsin will again go red — because Trump is paying more visits there than the Biden campaign. All I can think is these “swing states” are prima donnas if they expect the campaigns, in the year of the plague, to be catering to their every whim by making repeated physical trips to the state, and it doesn’t speak well of their residents if this is how they react. But then Wisconsin did elect Ron Johnson, a definite black mark against their judgement.

Yeah, we get a lot of candidates coming through various parts of CA, but generally it’s to do fundraising events, not to woo voters, and if you live in one of CA’s far flung corners, I don’t suppose they even do that. We’re the ATM machine for both parties.

That said, I don’t want the Democratic candidates to waste their time, money and effort campaigning here. They’re going to win California. I’d rather they spent time elsewhere where it could make a difference. With Covid, however, I would think sane voters everywhere would not see candidates in person, both for their own sake and that of their candidate.

My father voted for president from 1932 to the 1996; from 1932 through 1972, he was notorious for voting for the losing candidate in every election except for 1948. Subsequently his record improved: he voted for winning candidates in 1976, 1992, and 1996.

At this point, I am going to be putting all effort (and still more money) into GOTV here in Texas.
I am reasonably confident that Biden will win convincingly enough to keep the GOP from making a serious effort to overturn the result (though they will whine, accuse, and conspirafy till hell won’t have it).
He can do this without Texas, but turning Texas blue is a dream of mine, and would be a shattering, perhaps fatal, blow to Republican morale and even to their fundamental world-view. They might finally begin to understand that they are out of touch with most of the human race.

Although I have voted only for Democrats for President my entire life, I have voted for Republicans for other races (Senate, Representative, etc). In fact, pre-Gingrich, my ticket was occasionally half D and half R, but that changed with Gingrich. I was increasingly reluctant to vote R for any office and now (except possibly for judges), I vote only D.

WaPo editorial board:

Let’s not mince words. The Trump administration kidnapped children.

(bolding mine)

THE TRUMP administration’s immorality, cruelty and bureaucratic malpractice in tearing migrant toddlers, tweens and teens away from their parents in 2017 and 2018 were the work of many co-conspirators, most of them faithfully carrying out the wishes of the president himself.

…Some federal prosecutors along the border balked at bringing charges against migrant parents whose children would automatically be removed from their care. But at Justice, top officials washed their hands of ethical responsibility regarding the children’s welfare. “I just don’t see that as a [Justice Department] equity,” Rod J. Rosenstein, then-deputy attorney general, told the inspector general.

In a sense, Mr. Rosenstein was right: The job of protecting blameless children from emotional trauma is not a government “equity”; it is a human obligation. It is basic human decency, which was lacking in all the senior officials who helped implement this unspeakably callous policy.
