In Which a Trump Supporter Stands Right Behind Him at His Florida Rally, Throwing the White Power Sign

Politics • Views: 26,601

Earlier this year we reported on a rally at The Villages, a large Florida retirement community known for its strong support of Donald Trump. Trump had approvingly retweeted a video of the rally in which a supporter driving a golf cart could clearly be heard yelling “White Power” at protesters.

So today, Trump made a trip to The Villages (in the face of dropping Florida poll numbers) and held one of his standard hate rallies — and standing right him was a man wearing a cap with a “Proud Boys” logo, throwing the “White Power” sign repeatedly, and making a big show of it. He was not going for subtlety.

And here’s a photo that appears to be the same guy wearing his Proud Boys cap, hanging out with Florida Republican congressman Matt Gaetz.

Just watched the new Borat movie. Meh. More fucked up than Rudy and the young woman was the QAnon guys and his appearance at a rally where he got people to sing a seriously fucked up song about killing liberals and the media. These people knew they were being filmed and I am not sure who was acting and who wasn’t.

I don’t know how this can be fixed. A lot of people are just broken. Horribly, badly damaged. No matter what happens after Nov 3, Trump’s legacy of hate isn’t going anywhere without a whole bunch of people being hurt.

I’m so old I still recall when several of the well-known Never-Trumpers were still trying to blame Trump on liberals, because they were so mean and judgmental, always calling people racists etc

Or because they ran “a terrible candidate” (they mean Hillary) against him. To hell with all of them.

I’m fairly certain the QAnon guys were actors. Anytime Borat wasn’t in disguise the people in the scene were actors. Or, maybe not. It is hard to tell. But the original Borat film was seen by millions of people, it made Sacha Baron Cohen an international star. Borat without a disguise could never pull off the pranks with real people he did 15 years ago, he’d be made instantly.

I was thinking that they had to have known, there was someone off camera filming the whole thing. I honestly didn’t find it that funny either, I was kind of in a hurry for it to be over so we could watch something else. YMMV of course and I am in a mood to put it mildly.

The country music sing-a-long Borat did was a real prank he pulled off in front of a real audience at a far-right rally in Olympia, WA last June. He sang the grotesque song for over eight minutes. He got made by a militia sympathizing city council member who was an organizer for the rally. Someone caught most of the song on a cell phone camera. You can hear several people singing along and cheering in the background.

Sacha Baron Cohen sing along

It’s totally anecdotal, but the people I know in this age group are pissed and voting. In Georgia. Some of these are people who will vote conservative because mom and dad always have, but I don’t think that’s a majority. I told my son he and his peers are not inheriting a stable country, and it’s going to be up to them to follow through and stay involved. I hope they do, there’s some really smart and genuinely good people in that age group they just need a road map.

So, another possible workaround for long threads on an iphone (for people who don’t much like Spy mode).

In Firefox, go to the icon at the bottom right of the page, and turn on “block images.” Load the page — you’ll have to wait a couple of minutes for it to load. When you can hit the “jump to bottom” button, and it works, you’re done.

Then turn images back on. You still won’t be able to see pictures, but everything else should show up.

Works for me…

Now I’m listening to Rachel ranting (justly) about what’s not being done about covid as our numbers go up and up. Here in commieland, after a couple of months of higher numbers, we’re back to one or two new cases a day — just enough to keep us on our toes. Counties around us are seeing their rates drop too.

Masks and social distancing, friends. They work.

Good call, I was looking backwards. The original Dracula and Wolfman make my top 3 of the classics.

Since they throw them into rotation every time of year I’ve seen them more than almost any other movies. The original The Thing was awesome too, I love this time of year.

I have friends who won’t watch a black and white movie and I think I might have the same reverse prejudice against horror movies in color? I find them more entertaining than scary, if that makes any sense?

Posted downstairs the NWS San Diego video from today which explained down here we have a small chance of rain on Sunday, followed by high winds for a couple of days.

The culprit is a deep (southward) diving low that will bring gusty winds . Northern California will be colder but dry and windy, and most of the Los Angeles area will also be dry and windy. So fire hazards all around.

I’m right there with you. One of the worst evenings I ever spent was when a friend’s husband insisted I watch some Da Ali G with him. I didn’t laugh once—he almost fell out of his chair laughing. My anecdotal experience is that I don’t know one woman who likes him. Most find him cringeworthy. YMMV

re: #99 NO SMOCKING GUN!

Just saw a pro-Trump ad during the WS by a PAC called America First Action. It’s a Cincinnati station.

America First Policies was founded by several people, including Nick Ayers, a Republican consultant who is regarded as Mike Pence’s top political adviser, Rick Gates and Brad Parscale. America First Policies’ affiliated super PAC is America First Action.

In the 2016 and 2018 elections, four Trump-related Super PACs received donations from 38 people who gave over $500,000 each. To consolidate these efforts, America First Action was created for 2020. It is the only Trump-related group permitted to collect unlimited donations in 2020. However, as of August 2020, only six of the previous 38 top donors contributed to America First.

Slaoui agreed to sell stock worth $12 million and resign from the board of Moderna, the developer of a leading potential vaccine. But Slaoui insisted on keeping his roughly $10 million stake in his former company, GlaxoSmithKline, another contender in the Operation Warp Speed vaccine race. “I won’t leave those shares because that’s my retirement,” he has said. GlaxoSmithKline, working with Sanofi, has started human trials for a coronavirus vaccine using similar technology to Sanofi’s flu shot. It is supported by up to $2.1 billion from the U.S. government.

So apparently NYC rents are coming down a little bit; the median price now for a 1-bedroom is under $3000/mo for the first time in 10 years.

The Realtors Assn believes it’s because “people are less likely to want to pay for the commuters premium these days, because so many of them are working from home.”

The people at the Rock Island Firearms Auction House would get very tired of me :) But even then since I’d only buy stuff I want to shoot, that would use much. One good fast car, a nice house (taxes prepaid for a long time), etc. Even Leica’s aren’t that spendy at that point. I’d probably do a lot of travel after I found someone who would put up with me to keep me company. See if Seabourn is still doing their “around the world” 6 month to a year long super luxury all inclusive cruises.

The movies that scared me as a kid were Wizard of Oz (those monkeys!!) and Sleeping Beauty (the witch!!)

I was also traumatized by Bambi and Old Yeller.

When I was little, I saw a movie called Attack of the Crab Monsters, and another called House on Haunted Hill — both of them scared me silly. (I have looked them up since — unless you’re fond of very “B” movies, don’t bother. And they’re too campy to be scary.)

One film that gave me the heebie-jeebies as a little kid as the 1953 version of War of the Worlds. Very good at building suspense throughout, allowing us only a fleeting glimpse of the invaders and the visual effects are still quite good, even by 21st century standards.

Creature from the Black Lagoon is still in my top 3 monster movies, some of y’all might try and make the case that it is not real. The movie was a late comer but hits the spots for me.

I was 8 years old Halloween night and WIIC Pittsburgh was going to show the original Frankenstein at 1AM after the Tonight Show. That night, I went to sleep at 8PM and got up at midnight, couldn’t sleep, snuck downstairs, turned the TV on very low and watched Karloff. That movie scared the crap out of me!

Years later Dad told me that he saw Frankenstein when it came out in 1931 and it scared the #2 out of him. Dad INSISTED that when he saw it Karloff’s monster was tinted green in the print and that scared him all the more.

I saw a new 70 MM print of War of The Worlds and Gene Barry did a Q&A session after it was screened at Hollywood’s Egyptian theater. Gene was so elegant and he did a nice banter with the audience.

What a great story. My dad was born in 1927 (he was late 40s when he had me) and he told me he was scared to death when as a kid he saw King Kong in the movie theater. It was the scariest thing one could imagine! I am sure he is referring to seeing it after he was 6 when the movie 1st came out!

He grew up in Red Bank, NJ and told me how his dad dragged him down to Lakehurst to see the Hindenburg arrive twice during its successful 1936 season. He remembered that.

History sure is one fluid son of a bitch, stuff that seems a million years ago are only one story away.

I LOVE William Castle’s movies with the gimmicks! Homicidal had the “Coward’s Corner” where someone could get out of their seat and walk to the corner if they were too scared. Then there was Mr. Sardonicus where everyone got a ballot and they could vote if the bad guy gets punished. The “Ghost Filter” in 13 Ghosts where you could block seeing the ghosts on the screen and my favorite the “ZOTZ! Coin” that you had to hold up when Tom Poston was in trouble on the screen and the “ZOTZ! Energy” would save him!

well as far as classic scary films go, I still remember having my own issues post seeing The Haunting of Hill House when I was a wee lad. Maybe because the imagery wasn’t specific to the gore itself, but graphically represented by shadows and foreboding music and Vincent Price’s narrative sklils.

My mistake. I looked further and the original 1963 movie and its 1999 remake were both named The Haunting. It’s the Netflix series that reverted to the name of the novel. I had read the novel so that name stuck in my mind. I wonder if they changed the name to avoid confusion with the Vincent Price film.
