McConnell correctly frames Barrett’s confirmation as a GOP policy achievement, since she will implement Republican policies that are too unpopular to pass democratically.

Democrats can either expand the court or concede defeat for decades.

If they get a Senate majority, that should be a major priority.

And make Merrick Garland their first nominee.

Hurricane Epsilon is refusing to die, now east of Nova Scotia and still going.

nhc.noaa.gov

Tropical Storm Zeta’s track has been moved a bit west first (clipping Yucatan), then east (hitting Mississippi, though the strike cone is from central Louisiana to the Florida Panhandle).

Merrick Garland was originally suggested by Sen. Chuck Grassley as a moderate candidate he predicted President Obama would never pick.

How about instead finding the most flaming liberal justice on the Federal bench who might live another forty or fifty years? If we have the Senate, why not? The GOP already broke the rules of comity, let them whinge.

Yep, this is the thing that truly concerns me: this is McConnell basically at his most smug and confident that the GOP has won for decades. This is not a voice of desperation but a voice grinding salt saying ‘nothing you can do will undo our victor ever’. And I’m terrified about how correct he could potentially be.

I know this is all anecdotal.

Couple weeks ago I told everyone here that I was seeing Biden signs on the farms between Tampa and Orlando. The i-4 corridor. It was a shock to see even one by the Biden sign in that setting but he outnumbered Trump 6-3

In our development we have a particularly political street. It’s the main track where people like to put up signs. 4 years ago I didn’t see any signs. Maybe one or two for Clinton and one for Trump.

This year it looks like “Biden Row”. 13 signs for Biden, 3 for Trump. It’s truly overwhelming. I would say it was on a stretch of road that’s less than a quarter mile long.

I stopped by the outlet mall and there are two tents, one selling Biden gear and one selling trump gear side by side. The Mall is in Pasco county Florida. There were three or four people buying Biden gear but no one at the Trump stand - in Pasco.

I know this is all anecdotal but I really feel good about Florida. Of course I’m concerned about any shenanigans but I’ve never seen anything like this. Not even for Obama.

And test I voted and verified.

Ford lost in 1976 because of a mistake he made during a debate. My prayer is that the Biden statement doesn’t end up losing Pennsylvania for him. One error can be lethal, especially courtesy of the EC.

All the stores here sell Trump signs and stickers (interestingly no one around here has any of that displayed, just the one guy with the Trump flag northwest of me).

Locally, our general store proprietor has signs and flags and stickers and keychains and and and … and he complained to me that he didn’t understand why he can’t sell any of it. (That doesn’t mean Trump won’t win my town by a landslide though.)

Our town (pop aprox. 20K) is informally suggesting that people who have not voted early and who don’t feel the need to, to please vote in person on 11/3 because they are not sure they have the capacity to affirm and tabulate the thousands of early votes they already have. This is a purple-red area, but I think that indicates more “blue” engagement than normal. Fingers crossed. I guess the Pumpkinhead is doing a rally down the road right now. Not trying to jinx it or anything, but if that Texas trend is similar nationwide, yeah, we could well be looking at a landslide the likes of which we haven’t seen in quite some time.

I’m fine with flaming liberal, but we cannot follow the repugs’ practice of nominating inexperienced and incompetent candidates.

Tanker has possibly been seized by stowaways

Concerns over the crew’s welfare were raised at 10:04 GMT when the vessel was six miles off Bembridge, police said.

A spokesman said “verbal threats” had been made towards the crew.

The 240ft-long (73m) ship is known to have left Lagos in Nigeria on 5 October and is currently situated south of the Isle of Wight.

Lawyers for the vessel’s owners said they had been aware of the stowaways on board for some time.

Mr Meade said: “They discovered seven stowaways on board the vessel. When the crew tried to detain the stowaways in a cabin they got violent and that sparked the security incident.

“This wasn’t a hijacking attempt. This was the fact that they discovered stowaways on board and the stowaways didn’t want to be locked in a cabin.”

Isle of Wight MP, Bob Seely, said: “The ship is very visible from the eastern side of the island. What the main thing is now, is how serious the situation is.”

Ford lost in 1976 because of a mistake he made during a debate. My prayer is that the Biden statement doesn’t end up losing Pennsylvania for him. One error can be lethal, especially courtesy of the EC.

Re Sherrod Brown: My sister made the same statement months ago. I like Sherrod too. The problem is that there were so many Democratic candidates for President, he probably would have been drowned out

Actually, I’d say he lost because he pardoned Nixon.

Instead of trying to impeach Boof Kavanaugh for lying (that would probably die anyway unless the Dems get 67 seats in the Senate), what’s to prevent the Democrats from investigating the allegations, and if a crime is found, indicting him?

If they indict and convict Kavanaugh the Republicans will repeat what they did in Pennsylvania when GOP State Supreme Court Justice Orie was convicted of bribery. They will leave the seat vacant until the next election.

What we see is:

Denial.
Denial.
Denial.

Surrender.

In all likelihood the stage machinery is disaster capitalism, and…I strongly suspect…a democidal estimate that the disease will hurt black people and blue states more.

Conservatives and moneyed elites are doing to the US what they did to Iraq: feed on its suffering, steal as much shit as possible, and then run from responsibility.

And they can do it because their base no more gives a shit if an American they don’t know suffocates alone than they do the civilian casualty count in Iraq and Afghanistan.

If you die, they will view it as evitable…unless you belong to a category they hate, in which case then your death was deserved and a thing to enjoy.

Record lowest high expected tomorrow. Chadron and Cheyenne will break it by double-digits. Other towns in the region will also have record lowest highs. (+10 for us.)

Record lows tomorrow night as well. (We’re scheduled for -6°F.)

The winter storm warning now starts in north central Nebraska through the Panhandle (it’s still snowing here), wraps around through Wyoming, then south to New Mexico.

I have my mother’s ballot in my purse. I helped her vote the ballot last night. I’m going to drop it off tomorrow.

She voted the Democratic straight ticket. (We don’t have straight ticket voting, but she voted for every Democratic candidate on the partisan ballot.)

She voted for continuing a current tax, but against two new taxes.

SHE VOTED FOR PROP 207, which would legalize marijuana for adults here in Arizona. I told her what the proposition was for but put especial emphasis on “it’s going to be heavily taxed.” “Ok, Yes.” My brother and I exchanged WTF looks over Mom’s head. Later he said to me, “I really thought we were going to have to twist her arm on that one.”

I dunno if I’ve posted this before. Anyway, whilst researching for a virtual “pub” quiz, I found out that the first-ever commercially digitally recorded record released to the public was this lovely jazz recording:

It’s an album called “Something” by Steve Marcus + Jiro Inagaki & Soul Media. The title track is based on the Beatles song by George Harrison off the album Abbey Road, which was less than two years old when this was recorded. (Jan 1971). This was the second to be recorded using the same recording setup, but the first to be released. (Feb 1972)

Due to the primitive nature of the early digital recording process (It was essentially the equivalent of an analogue stereo reel-to-reel.) the entire album was recorded in one single take.

They took a strong stand against Trump in 2016, upsetting the Republican establishment. But the Republican establishment is increasingly led by crazies. I subscribe to the more left-leaning Concord Monitor. Union-Leader’s reporting at the state and local level is fine, but last I checked there are only Right-leaning opinion writers featured.
