I look at this and it doesn’t seem right. I remember the Mark Knopfler of “Alchemy” and those 80’s videos. Not this elderly gent. But then I close my eyes and just listen and he’s better than ever and everything’s all right in the world.

I’ve had Trump shut off for the last couple of weeks, and I can not tell you how much better life is. Hopefully, in nine days, this shit is over, and I won’t have to worry about another four year of this terrorist.

We didn’t know at all,

You can’t hold us to blame,
What could we do?
It was a terrible shame,
But we can’t bear the blame.
Oh no, not us, we didn’t know.

Areas in IL have to stay below 8% in order to be able to stay on the level of openness they are in. NW IL, in the corner near IA and WI, it has gone above that, and they have been dialed back. Probably not accepting it well! Gov. Pritzker has maintained an even keel, while being sued and vilified unmercifully.

NWS was right about wind in California, it’s getting windy from the north here. I have a hill on the north that goes up from my back fence about 30’ high with 2-story houses on top blocking but I’m still seeing 17 mph gusts. Summer ended Wednesday with the last 95F, now we’re down around 68-74F. I just got used to warm, I don’t like this cold.

Just had my battery backup kick in for a second. I should hear a wires arcing call on the scanner soon.

Cannot say much regarding brand, but there are two things to look for: a solid top (not plywood) and geared tuning pegs (not the open mesh gears) Those two things make a ton of difference in sound and playability.

A friend of mine in London has taken up with the Hare Krishnas. She is not that terribly heavily into the spiritual aspect, she just appreciates the company and community, people who can gather and have fun without alcoholic or drugged excess and she helps with food distribution as their policy is that nobody living within ten city blocks of a HK temple should ever go hungry.

It’s not real, it’s exaggeration for satiric effect. The “Tory scum” gives it away — a Labour MP recently got a dressing-down for calling the Tories “scum” in Parliament even though they were just saying out loud what everyone else thinks. Myself I consider them to have been overly polite.

I was gonna make some snarky comment, but this is getting close to schadenfreude overdose territory:

Several big names at Fox News Channel have been advised to quarantine after a fellow passenger on a private charter flight from New York City to Nashville for the presidential debate tested positive for Covid, including Fox News Media President Jay Wallace, chief political anchor Bret Baier, anchor of “The Story” Martha MacCallum, and two of the hosts of “The Five,” Dana Perino and Juan Williams.

The news was broken late Sunday evening by the New York Times, reporting that everyone who was on the flight has been advised to get tested and to quarantine.

Fox News has not publicly confirmed the story, citing the need to protect confidential personal health information, but the network’s affected anchors are reportedly making plans to host their shows from their homes this week.

As the Times noted, while some of Fox’s on-air commentators have “not always treated the coronavirus like the serious and potentially fatal illness that it is,” the network’s operations have shown a serious dedication to precautionary measures during this pandemic, including diligent use of face masks, avoiding close proximity to each other, and regular testing of staff members.

Looks like Putin is throwing Donnie under the bus….

Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Sunday that he saw nothing criminal in Hunter Biden’s past business ties with Ukraine or Russia, marking out his disagreement with one of Donald Trump’s attack lines in the U.S. presidential election.

Putin was responding to comments made by Trump during televised debates with Democratic challenger Joe Biden ahead of the Nov. 3 election.

Trump, who is trailing in opinion polls, has used the debates to make accusations that Biden and his son Hunter engaged in unethical practices in Ukraine. No evidence has been verified to support the allegations, and Joe Biden has called them false and discredited.

30% of the Utah covid19 hospitalizations are ICU-related. That pushes ICU capacity above 100% at SLC’s main hospital. SLC is a regional hospital, which takes patients from 5 nearby states because of its central location (and the lack of hospital resources in those other states that are closer to where these people actually live).

We were saying all along that people in rural America would be fucked because they have fewer hospital beds and once covid19 strikes deep into those areas, they’d face bed shortages and limits on care to a greater degree than other places.

7 day moving average for Utah is now 1500+ cases a day. That’s the opposite of having the pandemic under control. And we see this in practically every state. They’re losing containment in places like NY and NJ and states that were doing badly are doing even worse now. Not enough people are masking and social distancing, and the biggest problem is that officials are going to lack the will to close things back down because people are out of patience with a disease that Trumpworld still and never will take seriously. Had we followed the fucking playbook, we wouldn’t be in this position and Trump would be cruising to a reelection win.

Instead, he’s done gone fucked everything up, and his base thinks this is a win.

300,000+ excess deaths.
230,000+ official deaths.

States warning hospitals are exceeding ICU capacity, and we’re not even in the height of flu season yet (reminder: get your fecking flu shots to minimize chances of having to deal with flu during covid pandemic). Hospitals are struggling even now, and Trumpworld thinks it’s all dandy and that it’s personal failures that killed 230,000+ Americans, and not the lack of testing and a national mandate to mask/social distance.

Hint: it’s the latter. Every other country that imposed adequate testing and masking/social distancing mandates has done better than the US on minimizing deaths, illnesses, and economic damage. We’ve done worse and the recovery has been slower - all because of Trump’s know nothing approach.

But have no fear. Trump’s latest right wing extremist judicial pick will be seated on the Supreme Court before Election Day. Priorities.

I keep wondering if there’s a way we can make her life so terribly, terribly unpleasant that she resigns.

I know that’s an awful thing to say, but you know, I also remember life before Roe v Wade and I for damnsure am not going back there willingly.

I’d suggest organizing protests on hearing days at the Supreme Court—and yes, actually in chambers while cases are being heard—white women like me standing up and telling Amy Coney Barrett to resign—except we’re in the middle of a pandemic and the Court is not meeting publicly.

I really want Barrett to understand how much she is hated and despised and she’d do well to slink back to Indiana and her religious cult before she damages the country.

Well, to be REALLY fair, buying that old office building was only part of Jared’s Master Plan: Having (over)paid $1.2B for it in the first place, it would only have required another billion or so to knock it down, and replace it with a properly gaudy Trumpian Temple Of Crass. Of course, he didn’t have any more money anyway, and no place to get it, and couldn’t even pay his original loans off without that corrupt bailout, but Hey! What are problems for if not to be overcome??

For anyone worried that the race may be “tightening”, Trump’s odds of winning on fivethirtyeight.com remain at 12%, the same as on October 17. In contrast, on October 31, 2016, 8 days out from the election, the race had been tightening for two weeks, and Trump’s odds had already improved to 25%, on their way to peaking at 35%. Wikileaks and James Comey aren’t riding to Trump’s rescue, and he now has a record of profound failure he can’t defend with lies.

I think there are still groups out there she could help with to make sure more people get out to vote. I keep getting texts from people saying “I see you’ve voted. Can you encourage 3 more people to vote?” When I tell them “I have gotten six to vote, with two more to go” they reply “But are there three other people you can get to vote?” In my case, the answer is no. Research has shown time and again that people vote from an emotional place. It’s not so much that facts don’t matter. It’s that facts and talking points do not change minds.

but:

We don’t try to directly persuade people to change their minds on a candidate or an issue. Rather, we create intimacy, in the faith that people have an ability to reexamine their politics, and their long-term worldview, if given the right context. We’ve found that when people start to see the dissonance between what they believe and what they actually want, their views change—many of them come around to a more progressive perspective.

Is there some way to discuss COVID-19 and how Trump mishandled it from the beginning? With his dismantling the pandemic team, pulling doctors out of China, etc ? Maybe pointing out that both Bush 43 and Obama were very concerned about pandemics and worked on establishing protocols to prevent one from developing. How we have now lost over 225,000 Americans and Trump doesn’t care. Would that be an approach that might work on her?

Maybe some coverage about the FBI arresting Boogaloos for murder and arson at BLM protests; they’re trying to help Trump pin the violence on the left, and hoping to start a civil war.

Minnesota, Oregon, California, Texas… google will give you more details of available FBI press releases and news coverage.

Plus the kidnap plots against Governors in Michigan, Virginia and Ohio. All by right-wingers.

Mrs. Fish is absolutely paranoid that the Democrats are resting on their laurels and that Trump will still pull out a win. I am trying to remind her regularly that unlike 2016, there is no voter apathy toward Biden, and everyone feels such a strong sense of urgency to get rid of this douchecanoe that they are pressing to vote by any means possible.

Dems are not resting on anything, but again, Trump is criminal and desperate and has a lot of resources at his disposal. He is not above doing anything to avoid losing.

We must keep that in mind until the final results are tallied and announced.

Simply: Your argument is “both sides same thing.” All that other stuff is just going around your elbow to get to your asshole.

If you cannot see how both sides aren’t the same thing, I cannot help you. If pardoning war criminals, ripping infants from mothers arms to deport the mother and kidnap the child, denying asylum, teargassing protestors to hold a Bible upside down at a church, if a quarter million dead can’t help you choose, then I can’t help you choose.

Then cut that person out of your life.

Not sure who is “resting on their laurels”, but the national Democratic campaign people sure aren’t. For many days now, my email inbox has been flooded with panicky solicitations from my BFFs Joe, Kamala, Barack, Michelle, Aunt Nancy, Uncle Chuck, and a whole raft of Democratic guest-stars: all of whom seem to be acting as if the polls have suddenly flipped 88-12 to Trump. And exhorting the faithful to GOTV and do something about it (and contribute, of course).
I can’t really say I blame them, though: “2016 PTSD” really is a justified thing….

A lot of people disliked Hillary, were fed up with politicians and “politics as usual” and simply stayed home, registered a vote for a third party in protest or decided to give Trump a chance because they had been convinced that there was “no real difference”.

People like Biden, and after four years of Trump’s politics at its most unusual, they are ready to have someone with experience again. And Trump has managed to convince a lot of people that staying home or voting in protest is not a good option this time around.

I am not worried about the outcome of a fair election, I am more worried about what Trump is going to try to pull out of his voluminous sleeves to undermine the results and have the election thrown to the courts or the House where he stands a chance of winning, which is not the case with the popular vote or even the EC at this point.

You’re probably locked into Greene County.
Judging by the amount of Trump signs and banners here in North Central Pa it’s not in the bag. But this area has always been GOP. And dumb. Can’t buy a clue.
But think. How many times do you pick up when you do not recognize the number?

It also depends where you’re talking. Here in Northern Va, we’re going Biden but what’s going to make this state go bigger for Joe than any previous Democrat in years including Obama is that Trump has really alienated people in the Richmond suburbs and in the military areas. Likewise with Pennsylvania, I feel Joe will clobber Trump in the burbs and his popularity in Scranton as a favorite son will be enough. This is why I’m seeing a lot of pollsters poll Congressional districts rather than just focus on the state.

Stuff making waves on this side of the pond:
Vastaamo breach

I hope and pray this is just your J. Random extortionists and not a state actor.

Bombshell data breach ransom incident exploded in Finland. Psychotherapy center Vastaamo patient records were breached and ransom demands for not publishing data was sent to both company and patients. Patient data of 300 were already published on-line.

Vastaamo, which has branches throughout the Nordic country of 5.5 million and operates as a sub-contractor for Finland’s public health system, said its client register with intimate patient information was likely stolen during two attacks that started almost two years ago. The size of register is over 40 000 patients, so almost 1% of country population. Also some public hospital records could have leaked as company was a sub-contractor for handling records for some hospitals.

The privately-run psychotherapy centre Vastamo announced that sensitive information about its clients was leaked after its database was (not so) recently hacked.
The criminals demanded from the psychotherapy center Vastaamo 450,000 euros in exchange for stopping publishing the data. The center said the unknown perpetrator or perpetrators had published at least 300 patient records containing names and contact information using the anonymous Tor communication software.

The National Bureau of Investigations, and other agencies, have launched an investigation into how the data might have become compromised.

[Embedded content]

Also shades of Joe Theisman

My husband had one of those. Horse he was riding on wet grass (bad idea) slipped on the single foreleg support of the canter and came down with him. And he walked too much on the walking cast and tore his hip up, so that had to be replaced. And a boy I know did one on a trampoline, going down when his friends were going up. Nasty, nasty breaks.

The boogieman OSHA. Exactly. “If we could only cripple a few more people, we could give you a raise.”
I watched people use toluene to wash off over glued windows and doors in airless rooms. Guys blowing rockwool into manufactured housing as insulation in rooms with no ventilation. Welding inside tanks with no fans. On and on.
But those OSHA regulations….

re: #187 The Pie Overlord!

I do not pick up calls that come up “Unavailable” (which are almost all the calls that come in on the landline)

I do answer calls from unfamiliar numbers that come in on my cell phone, but those usually (BUT NOT ALWAYS) turn out to be scams from “Medicare,” “Social Security,” and “Vehicle warranty.” If they are actually legit calls they will leave a voice mail.

Funny(?) but true story. Girl friend called me Thursday afternoon on my cell. I was unable to pick up at that time but saw she called and got back to her later that day. Suddenly this morning at 2 am local time, over 3 days late, the voicemail she left on Thursday showed up on my cell. So is this an AT&T problem?

Trump has done an incredible job of sabotaging not only himself but his entire party.

Again, my only worry is that he is going to try to pull off something outrageous, unheard-of and so over the top that are momentarily frozen and unable to react to it until the damage has already been done and the voter counts invalidated.

Because that is looking to be his only chance of not losing.

Again, my only worry is that he is going to try to pull off something outrageous, unheard-of and so over the top that are momentarily frozen and unable to react to it until the damage has already been done and the voter counts invalidated.

Because that is looking to be his only chance of not losing.

GOP senators pondering action if Trump loses and refuses to step down, Carl Bernstein says (New York Daily News via MSN)

Several “terribly concerned” Republican senators are starting to plan how they’ll crack down on President Trump if he loses the election but refuses to accept defeat, journalist Carl Bernstein says.

“They are very, very worried about it,” the famed Watergate journalist told CNN’s Ana Cabrera on Sunday.

He said as many as 10 senators are “trying to come together” to “make a plan that if the president provokes a constitutional crisis, which they believe he will, they will try to find a way to let law and order and the Constitution prevail.”

The GOP senators are “talking with each other about how to restrain what they regard as an out-of-control, almost madman” who is “determined to do anything to hold on to office regardless of its legality, regardless of how far it crosses lines that are unthinkable in terms of authoritarianism,” Bernstein said.

But he apparently said this in Wisconsin.

Hmmmmm…didn’t they say one of the lingering effects of Covid is cognitive impairments? But when it comes to His Ass-Holeyness how would one know?

Swear Biden in, declare him president, and let him run the Executive, which includes removing Trump from the White House.

Ahh, thanks. I think I’d have heard if PA was totally shut down, though, since we have relatives there who seem to still be going about their lives.

Seems to me this was apparent back in February, when they could have removed him from office. Partei über alles.

re: #190 I Would Prefer Not To

I think that you data may be skewed. If you were calling the people that are independents/conservative of course you got a lot of resistance. My friends from Brooklyn drive out to Long Island and see lots of trump signs. No way is trump going to win Ny state. PA is similar.

You may be right, but we all salute you for doing the hard job of calling people.

Hear, hear!
