Colbert: Trump Won’t Let Covid Stop His Campaign, Keeps Mike Pence on the Trail Amid New Staff Outbreak

Eight months into the pandemic the U.S. is hitting all-time highs in coronavirus transmission, but that isn’t stopping Donald Trump from holding rallies nor is it slowing down VP Mike Pence who is pressing on with campaign events despite a Covid-19 outbreak in his inner circle. #Colbert #Monologue #LSSC

“A big part of our operations has been from the beginning to disrupt the leadership of the Trump campaign and to cause Donald Trump himself to poop his diaper and to cause these people to lose their minds. [Now we’ve] pinn[ed] down Jared and Ivanka Thursday and Friday of last week, and distract[ed] Donald Trump,” Rick explains to Molly Jong-Fast on the latest episode of The New Abnormal.

I love seeing the Lincoln folks become Joe’s Hatchet Men. This is a reverse of the 1972 Nixon campaign when Democrats for Nixon did the hatchet job on McGovern.

Trump-owned Mar-a-Lago billed taxpayers $3 — for a glass of water

How much have President Donald Trump’s businesses been nickel-and-diming American taxpayers?

So much that his Mar-a-Lago resort sent a bill in which they asked to be reimbursed $3 for every glass of water they served during a bilateral summit with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.

The Washington Post reports that the $3-per-glass-of-water bill was part of a larger bill in which Mar-a-Lago asked the government to pay “$13,700 for guest rooms, $16,500 for food and wine and $6,000 for the roses and other floral arrangements” while hosting Abe.

And his disgusting Nazi base won’t care.

If this helps with our nightmares, Nate Silver says there is about a 20% chance of a 5+ point polling error, and a 50% that error favors Trump, so a 10% chance he wins. Don’t worry, Be happy!

I’m really not worried about it. Despite all the what-if-ism among us these past few weeks, I’m honestly convinced that Biden will win by a sizable proportion, Trump and Co. will float a few legal challenges that get shot down, and even if something goes all the way to the Supreme Court and goes in his favor, he still loses. He’ll tweet some bullshit about “stolen election” and “deep state coup”, some Proud Boys will turn out and get humiliated, and then he’ll slink off to Russia or somewhere else quite unceremoniously.

I think Trump will in defeat try to sell himself or one of the kids as the shadow President so I expect these rallies to continue for as long as he’s not under indictment or a defendant in a civil lawsuit and I expect those to come in from the states after 1/20.

Extremely local news: We had frozen cold water pipes, as the temperature went down to -9°Freedumb last night. I put on the milkhouse heater and they have now thawed.

Panhandle Covid news: The Dumpster fire created by conservatives continues to get worse.

Weekly positivity rate: 42.2%, cumulative rate since April 1: 10.2%
(Pete Ricketts will sacrifice as many people as he needs to for the conservative genocide plan.)
Total positive cases: 1,957 (+45), active cases 709
Deaths: 12 (+1, Dawes County, seat Chadron)
Risk: High, moved up again toward Severe
Women and girls are 60% of cases (58 cases are “unknown” gender)
All cities and villages are now at High risk, except Hyannis (Grant County, moderate) and Broadwater, Lisco, and Llewellyn (no cases, yay for us I guess)

Trump is going to declare victory by 10 PM on 11/3. Then he’s going to label anyone who challenges him claim a traitor and claim the election results are illegitimate even if he ultimately does lose.

Point being, he’s going to try to delegitimize the whole thing as soon as the polling places close their doors.

I hope Biden and his team have a plan to counter this.

I love how so many Christians claim they are persecuted, and yet the term “megachurch” exists. I guess it’s because they can’t build gigachurches.

As Protestants continue to show they are up to the task of surpassing Catholic abuses, perhaps some persecution would be good for them.

Texas Megachurch Pastor Accused of Sexually Abusing and Beating Children (Friendly Atheist, more at the link).

The police say they are investigating the claims of child rape and physical abuse, but say they might not be able to prosecute due to the statue of limitations. However, one case does not fall under that rubric, because it amounts to kidnapping.

The pastor in question is Rickie Rush of the Inspiring Body of Christ Church, one of the largest in Texas (in Dallas).

The allegations come on the heels of a Dallas Morning News investigation into the pastor.

One victim told the story of how Rush had repeatedly violated her boundaries without consent, beginning when she was only 15. She finally got the courage to tell her story via a Facebook post not long after the #MeToo movement began — 25 years after that first incident — only to discover that her own sister and nephew were also victims. (Her nephew said Rush had been violent, not sexual, towards him.)

Rush had told all these people never to tell anybody about their encounters, saying privately that “Satan would plant things” in their minds and they shouldn’t listen.

Churches continue to be a greater danger than any “stranger danger” promulgated to protect children.

“You’re either bent over with your hands on his desk, with your hands on your toes, or you’re laying flat down on the floor on your stomach, rolling around trying to fight the pain,” [one victim] told The News. “Most of the time, he swings wildly. He doesn’t swing with the intent of hitting just one spot.”

… One swing was so hard, it severed the handcuffs. He couldn’t move his wrist without pain for weeks, he said.

And there’s your kidnapping charge if the Dallas Police have the cajones to prosecute a Christian minister of a powerful church.

Handcuffed, tied down, beaten: Pastor Rickie Rush faces new allegations of abusing children (Dallas Morning News, paywalled)

Ebony Davis was about 12, she said, when pastor Rickie Rush handcuffed her to another girl and beat their bottoms with a paddle, chasing them as they ran.

Lashawn Harris was in middle school when Rush bent him over and cuffed his hands to his ankles before paddling him, he said.

Dewayne said he was about 6 when Rush strapped him face down on a table, pulled down his pants, then thrashed his bare skin.

These accounts, two of which were reported to Dallas police in recent weeks, add a troubling dimension to abuse former members of Inspiring Body of Christ Church have said they suffered at the pastor’s hands. They also bolster recollections of other congregants, who said Rush’s beatings have spanned decades.

The add is great, but you would have thought they could have had another group playing adds to flank Lindsey from the right for some plausible deniability…

This week, Harrison has been mounting a campaign to cleave voters from Graham and steer them toward a third, more conservative candidate, although that candidate is no longer actively running. The tactic could appeal to South Carolina voters who voted Graham in but have at times critiqued him as not conservative enough for the state.

Harrison has been funding digital ads heralding Constitution Party candidate Bill Bledsoe as “too conservative” to represent South Carolina. The ads link to a page funded by the state Democratic Party with the message, “We all know Lindsey Graham’s changed, but beware of Bill Bledsoe,” pointing out aspects of Bledsoe’s platform that would actually appeal to those voters.

I hope Biden and his team have a plan to counter this.

true

and still no election in the modern era (post Truman) has been ‘called’ by anyone official on election night. only by members of the media.

while we’ve just come to assume they always get it right, it’s actually a meaningless exercise and carries no weight.

much like the election night horse race itself is too.
the order that the votes are counted (and reported) is meaningless.

Well, an important thing to remember about Marx is that he’s criticizing Adam Smith on the other side of a lot of economic change.

Marx makes observations that the incentives of people with capital is contradictory to the conditions that Smith viewed as “healthy” capitalism, that the actions of capitalists demonstrate that they will not stop or be constrained by rules preventing monopoly, oligopoly, etc…and more important than anything else, people with capital have NO incentive or interest in acknowledging the worth of labor, and will continuously work to devalue labor and steal labor.

In Marx’s view, labor and capital are in continuous conflict because of that last part, and capital’s basic drive for more asset accumulation means that they will always escalate that conflict—demand more for less, then demand more again, until the point it’s intolerable and workers have to actually fight and establish a new system that centers the value of labor (communism) rather than negotiate with capital or mitigate capital’s abuses (trade unionism and some forms of socialism).

…and I’d say the most important post-Marxian development that affects how we view Marx is that European colonialism and Amercian neo-colonialism shifted the abuses of capital to increase profit to faraway brown people, giving the illusion that capital was willing to let laborers have their due. If you’re standing in the right location and willing to not look over the horizon, you can imagine that Marx was wrong…because your comfort is the product of shifting the burden to Bangladeshi seamstresses that periodically die in factory collapses and nine-year-olds mining coltan in the Congo at gunpoint.

…and I’d straight-faced say that what we’re watching right now, that’s been going on since 50s in the US, is that capital had and has no fucking interest in a viable middle class labor block, and have been trying to devalue life in “developed” countries to the same level they are devalued in those “undeveloped” countries that we get our cheap shit from. And as someone living in the rural US, top of the South…they’ve succeeded.

He’ll tweet some bullshit about “stolen election” and “deep state coup”, some Proud Boys will turn out and get humiliated, and then he’ll slink off to Russia or somewhere else quite unceremoniously.

The narcissistic injury will trigger a massive wave of attacks on those he perceives as his enemies and those who he’ll blame for failing him. It will be ugly and potentially violent.

In a statement to that news outlet, Beyak’s office confirmed that the senator did make a contribution but said the money was sent in “error.”

VICE reports that after it made inquiries about the donation, Beyak’s office said the money would be paid back; a staffer said that the money was “being returned in its entirety, simply because it was erroneous.”

Beyak’s office did not immediately respond to CBC’s request for comment and clarification on whether Beyak, a former real estate agent, holds dual Canada-U.S. citizenship.

In February 2020, Beyak was suspended by her colleagues for the remainder of the parliamentary session after she failed to complete the anti-racism training she was directed to undergo the last time she was temporarily kicked out of the upper house for posting racist letters to her taxpayer-funded website.

The letters in question were sent to Beyak after CBC News reported on comments she made about the residential school system in March 2017.

Beyak praised the “well-intentioned” instructors at these schools and chastised the Truth and Reconciliation Commission for not “focusing on the good” coming out of these institutions.

Beyak’s suspension ended when Prime Minister Justin Trudeau prorogued Parliament.

The Indian Residential Schools were Catholic and Prebyterian run schools that First Nations (primarily Inuit peoples from the Canadian Arctic) were required to attend. The schools were meant to “indoctrinate” them into Canadian culture and convert them all to Christianity.

Stories of physical and sexual abuse were widespread. Thousands of students died and the schools have caused generations of negative impacts on the communities of Native Peoples.

The last school closed in 1996 (Yes, they were still open that recently) and the Canadian government has since apologized for what happened and offered restitution to some of those impacted.

Fuck this woman and her racist ass heart.

there’s gonna be an argument differentiating:

- counting already received ballots after 11/3
- counting ballots received after 11/3

the first one’s a no brainer (imo)
the second one depends on state law

some fed and state courts have tried to take the pandemic into account.
it looks like SCOTUS is sticking with “if the various legislatures wanted to do something they could. and they didn’t. so we won’t”

further some are citing Federal Statute 70.305. as you probably know, your tax return is considered filed if mailed and postmarked by 4/15. because the postal service is a federal agency, etc. so delivering to the USPS is equivalent to delivering to the actual federal agency/bureau. if it’s properly addressed, postage paid, postmarked, etc.

the problem i see here is that the postal service is delivering to state agencies and so it probably doesnt apply at all

According to Canadian law, a Senator is required to have their primary residence in the region which he or she lives.

If she claimed (I assume on an FEC form) her primary residence is New York, it would seem that is grounds to kick her out of the Senate of Canada.

On the issue of mistreatment of natives in Canada, I recall when we went on a trip through northern Ontario to Nova Scotia when I was a teenager. My mother was in college then, and had a conversation with a First Nations man, asking him how Canada treated them then (this was in 1974).

He said, “In the USA, they screw Native Americans about 96% of the time. Here we have it better, Canada only screws us 95% of the time.”

Trump has been pressuring Mitch McConnell to change the adjournment date of the US Senate, citing his authority to prorogue both Houses under the Constitution, Article II Section 3 (and I am certain he was told he could do this by someone else).

That section only permits the President to do that if the House and Senate cannot agree on an adjournment date, and Sen. McConnell has insisted the date is the same which Nancy Pelosi agrees to, January 3, 2021.

Jaime is nobody’s fool.

Well, it’s good that the Democratic party is finally playing devious.

Here is Harrison’s add, BTW Jaime Harrison endorsed add warning people that the Constitution Party candidate is too conservative and too Trump supporting for South Carolina

re: #103 🌹UOJB!

Now just imagine if Canadian Senator contributed to Joe Biden. Fox would be on fire 24/7.

I seem to recall a Canadian O’Keefe stooge who bought some Hillary swag that made Fox lose their last few brain cells

re: #117 dangerman

there’s gonna be an argument differentiating:

- counting already received ballots after 11/3
- counting ballots received after 11/3

the first one’s a no brainer (imo)
the second one depends on state law

some fed and state courts have tried to take the pandemic into account.
it looks like SCOTUS is sticking with “if the various legislatures wanted to do something they could. and they didn’t. so we won’t”

further some are citing Federal Statute 70.305. as you probably know, your tax return is considered filed if mailed and postmarked by 4/15. because the postal service is a federal agency, etc. so delivering to the USPS is equivalent to delivering to the actual federal agency/bureau. if it’s properly addressed, postage paid, postmarked, etc.

the problem i see here is that the postal service is delivering to state agencies and so it probably doesnt apply at all

the postmarked by due date also applies to state returns.
