Someone’s in for a rude awakening soon…

(NBC) U.S. President Donald Trump will be subject to the same Twitter rules as any other user when President-elect Joe Biden takes office on Jan. 20, the social media company confirmed this week.

Twitter places “public interest” notices on some rule-breaking tweets from “world leaders” that would otherwise be removed. Such tweets from political candidates and elected or government officials are instead hidden by a warning and Twitter takes actions to restrict their reach.

But the company said this treatment does not apply to former office holders.

“This policy framework applies to current world leaders and candidates for office, and not private citizens when they no longer hold these positions,” a Twitter spokesman said in a statement.

Utah has just mandated masks.

It took ‘em 6+ months to do this. How many thousands have gotten sick in UT and how many died in the interim?

Let’s count:

120,000+ infected since April 1.
650+ dead since April 1.

How many of those could have been avoided with masking, social distancing, and hand hygiene mandates.

Most of them. Had we done this nationally, we could have saved most of these lives, stopped the spread of covid19 in its tracks, and restarted the economy completely.

Instead, we got the most incompetent response imaginable.

Yeah, I am out of fucks to give when it comes to Republicans. Over six months of strained relations with my family, whom I otherwise love dearly, because Trump is a fuckstick who has been increasingly divorced from reality - and I’m tired of it. And for most of my life, they have been deliberately obstructionist to anything Democratic just because it’s the Democrats, not because of any policy or fiscal objections that they can reasonably discuss. Fuck that shit. The hyper-partisanism has to end. Until they can show that they can eat at the adults’ table, they get put in timeout.

I am so sick of Democrats being held to a completely different set of standards of “decency” and “compassion” than Republicans. If people are truly sorry or regret their actions they come find you. They apologize, maybe even do what they can to begin to make it right again, and most important, they get why you may not be quick to forgive if you ever decide to. It’s not our fucking job to make them feel better, that’s on them to become decent human beings who learned from their mistakes and being an asshole to others. No changes come from being more kind and forgiving when people are bullies. That’s on THEM. NOT US.

The overwhelming majority of Trump voters are NOT stupid, not racist, not anti-science. They are misled by Fox, FB,

I might have bought that for at least some of them in 2016. People were disillusioned and decided to give Trump a chance, many felt that his rhetoric was just that.

They had four years to see what he was really like and yet they still came back in even larger numbers to vote for him again.

Nope, these people are fucking hopeless.

Part of the bullshit working the ref is that they’re going to declare that all the bad shit is the product of Donald Trump…and a coalition of not-Republicans responsible for not being capable of saving Republicans from themselves. On top of which they’re pretending the willful ignorance, racism, and anti-science suddenly started in 2015. They can’t defend Trump because he failed and was embarrassing…but they can disavow him and claim that he was an abnormality. And central to that is pretending that everything conservatives have pulled since 2001is unremarkable; it’s normalization.

They’re calling to be let back into the discourse and set the tone of policy because they’ve engaged in a perfunctory renunciation of the current administration…but at the same time they’re denying that there’s a deeper problem that we were all present for over the last twenty years.

Which is why I don’t fucking get this idea that healing means listening to the center right who are mostly Bush flacks that were fine with war crimes, disappearing money, and declaring large chunks of the country terrorist sympathizers. The center right didn’t speak up about voter suppression at any point in the past, nor about gaming the system to pack courts. At the moment that it was being done in the most vulgar and obvious fashion, they developed reservations that didn’t translate into action.

Attempting to form a coalition with these people is for rubes.

But, hey, they probably won’t say things that make you feel angry…they’ll say nice things about comity and finding the midpoint right up until they have enough power to completely fuck up your life again.

Here’s a thought that just occurred to me. Checks and balances isn’t dead in the US. It still works in part.

What doesn’t work is expecting a Congress with at least a GOP blocking minority to be a check on the crimes and corruption of a GOP president. That’s a proven pipe dream.

What does work is expecting that Republicans in positions of power will not give up their personal power in order for a different Republican to become dictator. It’s not because these Republicans are good people, or care about the country. But preserving their personal power will still serve to impede a dictatorship.

E.g., what is in it for the GOP SCOTUS majority to nullify their own power by making Trump a dictator that is above the law? What is in it for McConnell to reduce his power for Trump’s benefit?

I keep on thinking back what I observed about Trump not long after 2016. Yeah the motherfucker has a bigger support floor than many politicians but he’s got a small ceiling. He benefited last time from it beng a three person race. Defense Secretary Mark Esper apparently knew he was about to be fired and gave an interview with the Military Times which was embargoed until he actually was fired.

Said Esper: “My frustration is I sit here and say, ‘Hm, 18 Cabinet members. Who’s pushed back more than anybody?’ Name another Cabinet secretary that’s pushed back. Have you seen me on a stage saying, ‘Under the exceptional leadership of blah-blah-blah, we have blah-blah-blah-blah?

Republicans want everyone to stand in line while white rural counties get 10 voting facilities and black counties get 1.

Nyt…and no. They didn’t hoodwink “us”.
We knew it at the time.
We read the bill
Then we voted accordingly.
Know who voted for trump? The clueless who believe he lowered their taxes.

Joseph Stiglitz: “The Trump administration has a dirty little secret: It’s not just planning to increase taxes on most Americans. The increase has already been signed, sealed and delivered, buried in the pages of the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act.”

“President Trump and his congressional allies hoodwinked us. The law they passed initially lowered taxes for most Americans, but it built in automatic, stepped tax increases every two years that begin in 2021 and that by 2027 would affect nearly everyone but people at the top of the economic hierarchy. All taxpayer income groups with incomes of $75,000 and under — that’s about 65 percent of taxpayers — will face a higher tax rate in 2027 than in 2019.”

GOPers turned out in big numbers too. GOP is more than happy to disenfranchise their own so long as more Democrats are disenfranchised. This is as it has always been. The GOP are afraid of when people vote.

Loeffler especially has spent a lot of time talking about being to the right of Atilla the Hun and pretty much all of her commercials show her sitting on AF1 with Trump and both of them grinning up a storm. She’s 100 percent with Trump, said it many times. She’s going to have a very tough time trying to talk shit about Rev. Warnock. So far there have been no negative ads directed at him, but I’m sure the GA GOP is brewing up something awful. They can’t even paint him as a socialist though, because he can flip that right to biblical principles based on Jesus’ teachings. It’s been Loeffler and Doug Collins fighting with each other over who is the bestest republican ever so far. Their regular shit might not work this time.

This is the part that the rubes and the meme repeaters don’t pay attention to.

I work with taxes. I knew. I saw this. I read the tax law. It specifically gave tax breaks to millionaires going forward, but the GOP decided to make the tax cuts applicable to the middle class and low income earners sunset in 2026, which means come 2027, they’re back to paying the older tax brackets. Millionaires and corporations get the benefit of the tax cuts throughout.

This was all part of the GOP effort to make it look like they paid for the tax breaks (gaming the 10 year JCT/CBO scoring). Reality is that GOP never covered the cost, because the economy didn’t grow at the over 4% needed to break even. All this did was grow debt and further shift burdens from the rich on to everyone else.

Effect of Hydroxychloroquine on Clinical Status at 14 Days in Hospitalized Patients With COVID-19: A Randomized Clinical Trial

Patients were randomly assigned to hydroxychloroquine (400 mg twice daily for 2 doses, then 200 mg twice daily for 8 doses) (n = 242) or placebo (n = 237). Among adults hospitalized with respiratory illness from COVID-19, treatment with hydroxychloroquine, compared with placebo, did not significantly improve clinical status at day 14. These findings do not support the use of hydroxychloroquine for treatment of COVID-19 among hospitalized adults.

Joshua Holland with some good observations:

I’d add that as with the 2018 Midterms, everyone in media was yapping away without actual evidence or proof that it wasn’t a tsunami, even as the numbers showed that it was in every conceivable way.

We’re seeing a replay, with the same kind of bias.

Democrats won back the WH, and did so in convincing fashion. It took longer than in 2016 thanks to the pandemic and the need to count mail in ballots, especially in PA where they were not able to crack open those ballots until election day to get a jump on the task of counting as they came in. That meant that the votes were locked in and had they done as other states had done to start counting before Election Day, Trump’s so called big lead would have been no such thing since the votes would have been tallied concurrent with the in-person votes.

The Trump “lead” in those states were a mirage. He was not in the lead. It just took time to count (and it always takes time to count, especially where there are lots of votes TO count. It takes a long time to count in places like NYC too - because we’ve got more people living in NYC than in THIRTY EIGHT OTHER STATES. And once all those votes are tabulated, PEOTUS Biden’s lead will be even wider.

So, why was the lead not as wide as polling projected?

I have my theories. Voter suppression is part. How people respond to polling is another. But I also suspect that there’s some significant number of people out there that have completely bought into the Fox/right wing echo chamber of misinformation and agitprop and there’s nothing that will extract them from it.

I mean I’ve watched several times where Trump has in fact gained votes in Arizona. There was even one brief batch in Pennsylvania that had a small net gain for Trump. Trump and his allies insisted on not allowing vote by mail to be counted quickly. We would have known much sooner possibly on Election Night. Trump just wants to create a new myth of outrage for his supporters. I’m hoping that if this must prolong the more people will see this for the absurd gaslight bullshit it is.

It will. What’s outstanding is majority provisional in an area that went just slightly for Biden. The ballot dumps yesterday were crucial to Trump and they did not go the way he needed them to in order for him to have a realistic shot of taking AZ.

It shouldn’t have been that close. A wrecked economy and a pandemic that killed 300,000+ Americans to date should have destroyed Trump in a landslide.

Fox and the right wing bubble/echo chamber is a huge part of why 1 and 2 go hand in hand.

As for 3, I suspect that there’s a lot to do with how Trump framed Biden as a socialist and the anti-Castro sentiment, right down to how Trump reversed Obama’s openness effort with Cuba (for more on cognitive dissonance, note that Trump wanted to take credit for Israel’s normalization of relations with some of the Gulf States, which is essentially what Obama was moving towards).

We apparently had a less toxic version of this “starting out behind” after the 2000 election simply because no one knew who won until mid December so they couldn’t really set up full staffs and know who was where. That means people can’t talk to the #2 at X agency because there isn’t one, and even if the current one stays in place, in this case they’re forbidden to talk to anyone. According to someone discussing it on NPR this morning, it’s a not insignificant problem.

We are going to be in for some rough economic times: Biden can continue artificially pumping up the stock market or let it crash and recover on its own.

The Trump campaign’s attempt to fuck with the election will be incompetent, but the question is how effectively the established Republicans can buoy it.

They basically aren’t. In particular, the GOP PA state legislators have no apparent interest in taking bullets for Trump by sending up a GOP slate of electors to the electoral college.

There’s also the fact that the Murdoch empire isn’t backing Trump’s little putsch attempts. And why would they? Trump as an out of control president to piss off libtards is one thing, Trump as an uncontrollable dictator would be a real threat to Murdoch et al.

Trump’s chorus of support is from his own creatures.

Yes! I don’t think I could be less interested in reaching out to people who don’t care about babies ripped from parents and then LOST, people who have tantrums in public over masks, people who scream shit like “black lives DON’T matter,” heavily armed people who strut around in their army-guy cosplay outfits, people who chant “Jews will not replace us” etc.
Until they see the errors of their ways and come around with some apologies and pledges to act like regular human beings, they can fuck off and keep fucking off til they fuck off past a black hole’s event horizon. Fuck them.

Most everybody wearing masks (it’s a city requirement, but you know…)

One asshole woman had hers either under her nose, around her chin, or in her hand as she yakked on her phone. Every time I chose a new aisle, there she was.

Then she was behind me at checkout—I will give her that she didn’t jump up to put her groceries on the belt until I was done. Her mask was around her chin.

I told the bagger to make sure and stay back/safe when she got to him and muttered that we’re surrounded by morons. He chuckled—then the cashier said, “You’re not talking about me, are you?” I said, “No, no. Not at all,” and the bagger and I conveyed to him who we were talking about.

I added a box of food for the foodbank to my order, which seemed to delight the bagger and checker (I do that every time I go to the grocery) and wished them luck. They laughed and waved as I left.

She acknowledges that the infection has a higher mortality rate for 70+, then asks whether it is worth canceling Thanksgiving with grandparents—the VAST majority of which are north of 70?

True, but 2000 was way on the tail of an outlier, as odds go. As I understand it, you can jibber-jabber with pretty much anyone once the election numbers are certified, and North Carolina *always* said they wouldn’t have theirs ‘til this Wednesday, anyway.

I have heard that the 9/11 report said that our intelligence and readiness were damaged by the late start to the transition. It wasn’t anyone’s specific fault that it happened, which is not the case now. The GOP would rather risk the security of the nation than upset Trump. Pathetic.

Easy way to expedite this. Just slip a memo into Trump’s briefing materials indicating that he and the family have investments going in marijuana dispensaries.

While that video was very amusing, it frustrates me that we don’t yet know WHY the campaign had that event there, and the headlines that claim to have “the whole story behind Four Seasons Total Landscaping” kinda trigger me because they don’t have that information I desire.

Mark Cuban:

Wrong, Mark. In the information age, ignorance is a choice. These people are misled because they quite wilfully pick and choose sources that confirm their biases or suit their agenda. A great many of them don’t actually believe the misinformation and propaganda they spew. I will consider reconciliation only when their evil movement has been crushed and flushed.

I’ve mentioned this before, so I’ll mention it again.

hi

No not that, the information age thing. There’s a reason I live in the most right-leaning House district in the country. All we have for newspapers are Republican apologia, all radio stations which are not the two music stations are right-wing propaganda or Christian hate radio, the television stations are nearly all Sinclair-owned. Internet service is too expensive for most people.

If people such as Mark Cuban are so worried about right-wing media brainwashing people, why isn’t he investing in media outlets in areas like mine to improve the media landscape?

Only if you live closer to the cell tower in my village than I do (five blocks) can you use cell service instead of the Internet. Cell phone service costs just as much as Internet service here and is useless over vast areas of this state.

Much of Rural America (tm, marca registrada) is like this. No one sees a need for Internet service when it costs so much, particularly if you have to pay rent or food bills.
