I’m sorry, but there is no way California’s favorite is anything other than In-N-Out. Their logo is practically an alternate state flag.

re: #7 Ace-o-aces

As I noted, it’s a prank map.

The same with Nebraska, Taco Bell is not even close; the most popular chain by far here is the homegrown Runza.

A runza (also called a bierock, krautburger, fleischkuche, or kraut pirok) is a yeast dough bread pocket with a filling consisting of beef, cabbage or sauerkraut, onions, and seasonings.[3][4][5][6] Runzas can be baked into various shapes such as a half-moon, a rectangle, a round (bun), a square, or a triangle. The runzas sold by the Runza restaurant chain are rectangular while many of the bierocks sold in Kansas are round buns.

The runza is a regional cuisine of Nebraska, with some commentators calling it “as Nebraskan as Cornhusker football.”[8] It is served by the Nebraska Society of Washington, D.C. and the Nebraska Society of New York at their Taste of Nebraska events and was chosen to represent the state at Flavored Nation, an event serving iconic dishes from all fifty states.

What sells this one is the fact that there are a few accurate choices in there.
Whataburger in Texas and Popeye’s in Louisiana, and some of the southern states having Chick-fil-a won’t get much argument from here.

That being said, having Denny’s in California is hilarious, and naming Sbarro for New York and Subway for Pennsylvania could be considered an act of war.

So is this where we start to play the 2 Live Crew’s Me So Horny as background music?

Jerry Falwell Jr. and Wife Becki Falwell ranked Liberty University students they wanted to sleep with: report

Jerry Falwell Jr., recently resigned president of Liberty University, had allegedly ranked students with his wife, Becki Falwell, that they’d see on campus and ranked the one whom they most wanted to have sex with.

The scandal broke when a former student of the university told Politico that “[Becki] and Jerry would eye people down on campus. She didn’t go into specifics, but said, ‘Oh, me and Jerry play games all the time, like ‘Would you rather?’ with people on campus.’ I’ll never forget that.”

Moe Davis thank you letter is truly classy. Can’t believe he lost to that little twit.

I want you to know how grateful I am for your support in my attempt to represent North Carolina’s 11th Congressional District. While I am disappointed in the outcome, I am encouraged by the fact that over 23,000 people made over 42,000 individual donations in support of my campaign to bring Western North Carolina into the 21st Century. Thank you for being a part of the team.

At the end of the day, voters chose to vote along party lines. There wasn’t more than a point or two of difference in the results for me, Joe Biden or Cal Cunningham in any of the 17 counties in the district. Statewide, the results in each of the 13 congressional districts mirrored the district’s party tilt. The closest congressional race was decided by over 6.5 points and eight of the races saw the winners victorious by margins of 20 points or more. That resulted in Republicans winning eight seats and Democrats winning five seats in a state where the presidential vote was almost evenly divided.

I’m proud of the campaign we ran. Unlike my Republican opponent, I never accepted any corporate PAC money, I never pivoted on any policy positions to try to appease special interests, and I never put public health at risk in the midst of a pandemic to try and win a race for public office. I’m pleased that, unlike my opponent, I never had to explain I’m not a Nazi or a racist, nor did any of my former college classmates form a PAC to tell voters I’m a sexual predator and a habitual liar who is morally unfit for office. We ran a clean and honest campaign and, for the first time in a decade, we made the Republicans expend a huge amount of money and effort to hold onto the seat.

It’s wonderful that Joe Biden and Kamala Harris won and the Trump presidency is drawing to a close. I look forward to supporting the new administration’s efforts to get the country back on the right track and to defeat the pandemic. I’m confident that if you supported my efforts you are supporting their efforts too.

Again, thank you for backing my campaign. Let’s keep working to bring better days to Western North Carolina and America.

Regards,

Ben Shapiro, the voice of traditional masculinity.

Maybe this is Mr. Shapiro’s problem (or at least his wife’s):

Women prefer tall men because they die earlier, MGTOW explains (Goes to We Hunted the Mammoth)

(caution for coarse language)

He’s figured you out, ladies! Or so he thinks. One bold MGTOW has a new explanation for why women generally prefer taller men. It’s because every woman is a golddigger at heart, and tall men die younger than short men, which means a briefer wait to cash in on the life insurance.

Simply put, Shelton is a demonstrably unqualified partisan quack who has no business working at the world’s most powerful central bank. Her nomination has been condemned by hundreds of economists and Fed alumni, including prominent Republicans and at least seven Nobel laureates. The senators poised to confirm her appear to know she is unfit; ahead of February hearings, a former Republican Senate Banking Committee aide said that “the idea of even calling her as a witness for something was beyond the pale” not long ago.

it seems as if the GOP is simply trying to play out the string, even though they have lost, despite our being exhausted, they continue to try and make the victory a pyrrhic one.

All I can say is that I hope that our Democratic government representatives can pace themselves accordingly… not only to restore government functionality, but to take the needed steps forward that the country wants and needs…. they need to see action, moving into green energy solutions, reconciling income inequality, restoring faith in education and some sorely needed police reform.

Then on the other hand, they need to make those who governed in bad faith pay.

Fine the good people of South Carolina and Kentucky saw fit to return to us Graham and McConnell, I think we need to have a DOJ in place to ensure that they are not corrupt and have behaved ethically. If not, bring charges, if guilty, convict them. All of them, each rotten piece of crap corrupt sob that conspired, took money and was essentially an ethical nightmare, convict, sanction, fine, shame them all.

no peace, no quarter. They could have followed ethical norms, instead they do this…

After that, we can think about reconciliation.

CNN has a story including an interview with Alexey Raksha, a former Russian statistician, that the actual number of deaths in Russia from COVID-19 is probably around 130,000 instead of the 33,000 officially reported — so almost 4 times as high. Very grim numbers: based on population size, on the same order as Spain, and somewhat higher than here.

I actually remember the opposite, with that crowd lecturing me and other Hillary voters on how we were “out of touch” and “elitist,” that Donny had been elected due to “economic anxiety,” and we were the ones who needed to crawl on hands and knees to beg forgiveness for all that “deplorables” talk.

And when those Nazis in Charlottesville carried tiki torches and yelled “Jews will not replace us” Ian just thought that it’s OK to let those deplorables vent!

Yeah, California is losing control too. 200 cases a day in my county. There a whole bunch of stupid fuck-nuts in California, too.

Yeah, the relaxed restrictions were nice while they lasted.

I can’t speak for your area, but I saw people keeping to the (relaxed) regulations, so I think the problem is with the rules, not people breaking them. (Of course, the Veterans Ay holiday may be part of the problem.) Once we get this under control again, I think if we keep indoor dining and church services on the forbidden list, we might avoid this the next time around.

(And maybe the state should track down everyone who buys a turkey larger than about six pounds and cite them if they prove to be having big gatherings.)

Yup. The same song and dance when a Republican is elected, and is never reciprocated when a Democrat is elected.

That and all the “f—- your feelings” shirts and flags. Now we’re supposed to be concerned for their feelings, because we’re supposed to be the bigger folks.

Nevermind the Muslim ban, kidnapping children, deporting people to the wrong frickin’ countries, virtually banning asylum, the hundreds of millions grifted for his golf properties, his Nazi advisor, the endless lying by his multiple press secretaries, the overt racism, attacks on the free press, Christian nationalism, &c &c &c but sure, reach out to his voters and find something in common with them.

I’ll acknowledge we’re probably both carbon-based life forms.

At least Gov. Newsom isn’t actively trying to kill you.

Not to minimise California’s plight, but your state has nearly forty million people. The Nebraska Panhandle has just over eighty thousand.

We’re going back to the old, restrictive rules, which should work now as well as they worked the first time. Newsom and his team show an ability to learn from mistakes, so I hope we can get this under control again soon.

I’m sure that’s the main underlying reason, but at least in CA there is a system of stages where each county gets a risk assessment based on hospitalizations, positive testing rates etc. If a system like that is working as intended, one should be able to see hot spots etc. show up in individual counties backsliding a stage or two. But what this announcement of Nov 16 looks like so far is damn near the whole state going from “moderate risk” to “worst risk” in one shot, skipping over an intermediate stage.

If that’s what happened, then at least the “moderate risk” stage wasn’t properly defined.

My thought exactly. Good behavior got most of the state to “moderate” (orange), then two weeks of that brought it all the way back to purple. So back to the drawing board — orange needs to be reexamined.

And on that note, good night all!

We performed a couple times at a local Frankfurt venue, the Batschkapp (capacity of about 600) that at one point had featured all the Big Names on their first European tour, all were listed on the doors of the single toilet stall: Pearl Jam, Nirvana, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Smashing Pumpkins, Smithereens, etc…

I read that Kurt Cobain had bad stage fright and used to throw up before performances. Once my (ex) wife got ahold of some bad salmon from the backstage catering tray and I pointed out that she was hurling in the same toilet that Kurt Cobain used…

Trump’s foreign policy is not so much a policy but a domestic publicity stunt on making other countries the enemy.

Some of their newer specialty sandwiches aren’t bad, but I’ve definitely noticed a falloff in quality. The only benefit it has for me now is it’s local - one of two restaurants in town - so if I’m feeling cheap and lazy, they’re always there.

So, Trump continues to get his covid19 public health guidance from a guy who isn’t a public health expert and hasn’t actually been practicing medicine for a bunch of years. He’s a radiologist, not a epidemeologist or an infectious disease expert.

Atlas is the kind of bigot and know nothing Trump loves, because he’s telling Trump what he wants to hear, not what he must hear.

Atlas is still spewing nonsense about herd immunity, and right wing echo chamber continues insisting that Sweden is the model for this. It’s all junk science and woo.

Sweden has just gone into a lockdown mode admitting that herd immunity was a disaster and that the bodies are starting to pile up with no end in sight. They’re imposing criminal charges for violating public health orders on gathering sizes.

Trump hasn’t been at a covid task force meeting in months, but spends as much time as possible tweeting about how great a job he’s done while the body count just keeps rising. We’re now at the exponential growth stage where cases are going to absolutely wreck health care providers in many parts of the country, and there’s no backstop because capacity is maxed out in so many parts of the country.

This was avoidable with proper guidance from the feds on down. We could have avoided the worst of this with sensible leaders and guidance that would have slowed the spread and kept the outbreaks contained, especially during the summer. GOPers wasted months. They encouraged nonmasking and dangerous behaviors, and continue peddling that covid is a hoax, right up until these people get covid and have to get hooked up to a respirator and die. They’ll ignore the health experts that say mask and social distance. They’ll make terroristic threats against Democrats insisting on masking and social distancing mandates to keep all residents safe. This is what Trump has wrought.

I thought of an argument for Biden to try on Manchin and any other Democrat who opposes eliminating the filibuster if Democrats manage to win the two seats in Georgia. He should tell them he doesn’t want to rule by executive order, but in order to get bills through, he’s going to need the Senate to function responsibly, and right now, it can’t do that if Republicans block everything.

The Wesleyan dean who called Biden voters “anti-Christian” and “anti-American” in a FB post has now deleted his FB account and resigned from the university. One departure at a time. May Trump follow soon.

Fun fact: I went to high school with a teenaged golf prodigy who, last I knew, was employed on the faculty of Virginia Wesleyan’s athletic department as a golf coach. He’s also a rabid misogynistic transphobic knuckledragging Trumper who has spent years in his Facebook feed peddling baseless conspiracy theories against the Obamas, Clintons, and liberals in general.

I never friended this guy, but I used to frequently see his demented spew because he spent a lot of time trolling my friends - the few liberal-leaning people my high school produced in the Reagan Era.

I eventually blocked him. (Occasionally, I unblock him to take a peek at what he’s up to for Intel-gathering purposes, but haven’t recently.) He has said much worse things about us liberals than the Dean of Virginia Wesleyan’s business school. I would wager that, unlike said dean, he’s still employed by VWU and still trolling the libs on Facebook in his monosyllabic, inarticulate, serial emoji-abusing manner.

hi

Resistance is starting to mount in Nebraska to Governor Pete Ricketts.

The city of Ralston does not have a health board. They are in the process of forming one now. It will include city council members, the police chief, and a physician from University of Nebraska Medical Center who lives in Ralston.

Debate emerges over city authority to issue mask mandates as Ricketts resists state requirement (Omaha World-Herald)

Several communities across Nebraska are discussing a possible mask mandate, including Scottsbluff, Kearney, Grand Island and Ralston.

State Sen. Justin Wayne of Omaha, an attorney and the chairman of the Legislature’s Urban Affairs Committee, said Monday that state law gives cities of all sizes the authority to “make regulations to prevent the introduction and spread of contagious, infectious or malignant diseases into the city.”

He argued that the law would clearly allow for a city ordinance mandating the use of face masks or face coverings. If not, he said, cities and towns could issue a mandate under their authority to regulate nuisances.

Wayne noted that many Nebraskans are pleading for state and local leaders to take steps to slow the spread of COVID-19. Since Gov. Pete Ricketts has continued to resist calls for a statewide mask mandate, Wayne urged local leaders to step up.

and

The Scottsbluff Star-Herald reported over the weekend that local leaders from Scottsbluff, Terrytown and Gering said they were exploring options but declined to make any policy announcements.

Ricketts has repeatedly refused to consider a statewide mask mandate, arguing that he doesn’t want to use government power to force mask use and that doing so would breed resistance. He also has barred local public health departments from establishing mandates in their areas.

He sounded the same theme on Monday, despite mounting calls for a mandate from health care professionals, teachers and other citizens.

NSEA calls for mask mandate, other COVID-19 protections (Scottsbluff, Nebr. Star-Herald)

The Nebraska State Educators Associations called for a mask mandate, a suspension of youth and high school sports, and more transparency in regards to COVID-19 numbers on the same day the Nebraska Department of Education recommended a statewide mask mandate.

Gov. Pete Ricketts has continually resisted imposing a statewide mask mandate and last week said that he would deny mask-mandate requests from regional public health departments.

“If leadership in this state won’t make hard decisions and put mandates in place, our schools will close,” NSEA President Nancy Fulton said during the call.

Over the last two months, cases in the Panhandle and Nebraska have grown exponentially, putting local hospitals’ ability to provide care for any medical emergencies in jeopardy, as previously reported in the Star-Herald.

Pete Ricketts calls them “government schools” (including the universities) and wants them all privatised. He is quite willing to kill every person in a public school.

His plan so far has been to threaten any government agency (including schools) to withhold funding if they require masks. It’s his intent to return as much CARES Act funding to the federal government as possible (it must be spent by December 31 or it has to be returned).

For those wondering if the GOP could come up with someone to capture Trump’s fans, Ricketts would be a good guess, is much more intelligent than Trump, is just as genocidal, and his term-limited office expires in 2022.

I would not be surprised if he becomes the face of GOP genocide and destruction of democracy in 2024. He has had his lips firmly planted on Trump’s ample ass the whole time he has been President. He continues to support Trump not conceding and his lawsuits.

This is also why so many towns have been afraid to cross him.

My query to my village board about requiring masks and limiting gatherings, citing what the town did in 1918, was met with “no.”

The reason for the no was while the village has plenty of money in the bank, it cannot afford fighting the state government if they cut off the usual funding to the village.

This same scenario is playing out all across the state, in towns much larger than mine.

Since he has the National Quarantine Center in this state, the world-class Nebraska Medical Center’s epidemiology department, public health officials all across the state telling him he’s wrong, &c., the only conclusion is a deliberate genocide.

He is concerned with eliminating corporate and personal income taxes and replacing them with sales taxes (which he calls “consumption tax” and insists that’s different than a sales tax). That is what consumes him, to turn us into a libertarian paradise to protect his billions.

I have always kind of had the impression that it wasn’t so much fear of success as it was fear of the identity crisis success could cause for him. Things would be very different if Trump lost instead of gaining 10 million voters, if Pelosi’s margin grew instead of dwindled, if the Democrats had won the Senate. Yes, it’s possible that both D candidates will win the Georgia runoff — but that is highly unlikely. So if Biden wants to accomplish anything permanent, he will need Republican support, otherwise everything will have to be handled through EO, which drastically limits his options. It’s going to be a tough 2 years.

yeah, perpetuating the bullshit that somehow there were election shenanigans that affected ONLY the Presidential election and ONLY in states where Trump lost, despite the federal agency that claims that there wasn’t anything remotely significant and that none of the lawsuits filed thus far have shown anything.

This looks more and more like more people who are deathly afraid of a realistic review of what bodies are buried where by a DOJ that isn’t completely in the tank and complicit for them.

To be honest, I have no issue if Biden soft-pedals this now, because if he’s waiting until his ass is in the chair, why bothering telegraphing the fact that he looks to put in place a new DOJ that will be independent. To play that card now, invites the keyboard commandoes to take to the streets in greater numbers and allow Fox et al, to continue to try and play the victim card and employ their persecution defense. The problem appears to be that the GOP knows that their ass is cooked even in an impartial setting. It’s painfully obvious that after the Mueller investigation that the amount of effort required to find a GOP member who isn’t influenced by their loyalty to their party over the country is telling with the GOP putting Mueller in a box and Mueller simply staying there despite all of the clues and money trails that led elsewhere. More bad faith…

So, if we get a DOJ led by Yates, Preet, Jones, Schiff, I expect them to be honest and fair. I also fully expect them to find plenty of shit under any stones they overturn. Will we see a vindictive Biden, I doubt it, but with Harris also in charge, I wouldn’t be shocked if there are some suggestions to look into things and current members of Congress.

My Sister was suspended from FACEBOOK for making an innocuous comment about Americans loving their guns though. It’s funny what gets you penalized and what is okay.

Rudy’s somehow asking Trumpworld for $20k a day to lead on Trump’s election lawsuits.

Umm… that’s a wee bit excessive given the lack of results and his awkward filing that lied about his bar admission status on day 1.

Seems that this too is all about the grift.

You cannot use the phrase “white trash” in Facebook. Several friends have wound up in Facebook jail for using that phrase. BUT my racist relatives can use the “N” word in conjunction with Obama and Michelle and Marky Mark gives them a pass. Oh and they can use two “C” words when it comes to Kamala and sure enough Marky Mark pats them on the back!

I get that. He’s trying to reframe his comms with these states as “election security concerns”, when the sum and substance of the conversation was all about what it would take to invalidate votes from places not favorable to Trump to deliver Trump a win.

That there are witnesses to Graham’s statements, and that those witnesses are fellow GOPers shows that Graham is fucked (legal term).

I put that in the same category as the Kos diaries about white people dying and refusing to sign up for Obamacare, saying they are willing to die for their race….

Metallica - King Nothing (Video)

Wish I may
Wish I might
Have this I wish tonight
Are you satisfied?
Dig for gold
Dig for fame
You dig to make your name
Are you pacified?
All the wants you waste
All the things you’ve chased
And it all crashes down
And you break your crown
And you point your finger, but there’s no one around
Just want one thing, just to play the king
But the castle crumbled and you’re left with just a name
Where’s your crown, King Nothing?
Where’s your crown?
Hard and cold
Bought and sold
A heart as hard as gold
Yeah! Are you satisfied?
Wish I might, wish I may
You wish your life away
Are you pacified?
All the wants you waste
All the things you’ve chased
Then it all crashes down
And you break your crown
And you point your finger, but there’s no one around
Just want one thing, just to…

I looked at my email from the Washington Post, and the lead article was about how in love with Trump Melania is. Kind of made me want to puke. Why? I did not read it and will not link it.

I must get 20-25 email messages a day from the WaPo linking to stories. Some of them are going to suck. I just delete all of them and go read the paper when I feel like it.

Seems in 2018 there were 225+ million car accidents in the US. There were approx 38,000 deaths. So I guess I can stop respecting those pesky stop signs and stop lights now right, very low percentage die from car accidents.
