Giuliani, Graham, Barr etc. would not debase themselves and bet their future, and the future of the GOP itself, on this desperate ploy if they were not truly convinced that prison is the alternative. The widespread support for their shenanigans at lower levels of the GOP could well indicate that the fear of prison is similarly widespread. I really think that this is going to be the greatest scandal in history.

Even DC has had to get into the coyote act:

Coyote Spotted on the National Mall
nbcwashington.com

This wily coyote (Apetitius giganticus) was spotted yesterday morning in East Potomac Park by our tree crew supervisor. While coyotes are known to inhabit nearby Rock Creek Park, it is rare to see them on the National Mall. pic.twitter.com
— National Mall NPS (@NationalMallNPS) July 22, 2020

But, as they say about the National Mall… If you’ve seen one, you’ve seen them all.

And even bears have gotten into the act:

Bear Spotted in NW Released Into the Wild (2013)

A bear spotted in the Spring Valley neighborhood of Northwest D.C. has been returned to his natural habitat.

Residents spotted the 100-pound bear around 8 a.m. Wednesday in the 4900 block of Rockwood Parkway NW, not far from Sibley Memorial Hospital. The animal was later seen running across the manicured lawns of Spring Valley before Animal Control officers were able to tranquilize and remove it.

(The bears are usually adolescents and in a similar situation to teenagers at the local mall. Three year old bears are chased away by their mothers so the mother can breed again. The young bear is looking for a territory, it keeps getting kicked out by the current territory holding adult bear and having to move along.

Most of the bears start out in the Appalachian Mountains. The unlucky ones randomly head east along the Potomac River watershed’s stream beds and rapidly end up in Suburbia. Heavy development with lots of dogs, fences, humans and high speed crowded roads are not very bear friendly.

The bear above was very fortunate because it was reportedly tranquilized, transported and released.)

Oops

Loaded handgun found in South Dakota man’s carry-on luggage at Eppley Airfield (Omaha World-Herald)

Eppley Airfield is Omaha’s airport.

A South Dakota man was stopped at Omaha’s Eppley Airfield after security screeners found a loaded gun inside his carry-on luggage.

Transportation Security Administration officers found the .380-caliber handgun loaded with six bullets on Tuesday when it entered a checkpoint X-ray machine. Omaha Airport Authority police were alerted and confiscated the gun from the man, who said he forgot he had his gun with him.

“Claiming that you forgot that you had a loaded gun with you is no excuse,” said Michael Fowler, TSA’s federal security director for Nebraska. “If you own a firearm, you should know where it is at all times.”

TSA can issue a financial penalty to travelers who have guns with them at a checkpoint. The penalty for a typical first offense for carrying a loaded handgun into a checkpoint is $4,100, but it can go as high as $13,669, depending on the circumstances.

Nationwide last year, 4,432 firearms were discovered in carry-on bags at checkpoints across the country, averaging about 12.1 firearms per day. That’s approximately a 5% increase nationally in firearm discoveries from the total of 4,239 detected in 2018.

That doesn’t mean it’s not true, but Twitter isn’t exactly a reliable source.

So this crossed my feeds…
Daniel Morrison: “Qanon” is propaganda. And we know who’s responsible.

“So, to sum up, here is how likely to have happened. People like Roger Stone, Paul Manafort, Rick Gates, Steve Bannon, Micheal Flynn, (and/or Jared Kushner, Dan Scavino, and Brad Parscale), drawing on strategies outlined by Jeff Ginsea and Chuck Johnson, used companies like Psy-Group, Black Cube, WikiStrat, and Cambridge Analytica, to develop a strategy to drive support for Donald Trump. That involved a lot of things, including this project called Q. They used people like Thomas Schoenberger and Lisa Clapier, who used used puzzle-like strategies and cult-like recruitment techniques to create an ARG style Psy-Op, based a military thriller conspiracy core wrapped in a New Age outer face. It played right into people’s psychological framework, and pre-existing sociological conditions. People like Tracy Beanz, Coleman Rogers, Paul Furber, Joe M, and Ron and Jim Watkins, were either knowingly or unknowingly used to take the Operation to a wider audience. From there, influencers built significant audiences by posting content from the Q Universe, and a self enforcing community grows. Companies like Cambridge Analytica and Gloo then used big data to target the content exactly where it’ll make the most difference. And it’s all supported and amplified by outlets like OANN and Breitbart and whoever else has an interest in a Trump administration.

Panhandle Public Health District Dashboard

Regarding late revisions in cases in Nebraska, some of those could probably be attributed to late reporting or human error. I’m not in a position to speculate. The Covid Tracking Project, which used to rate our reporting at D-, now rates it at A, for whatever that’s worth.

Revised upward today (new totals):

March 29: 1 (this revises the appearance date of the virus in the Panhandle from April 1)
July 1: 18
August 21: 12
September 1: 22
September 16: 25
October 15: 66
October 30: 243
November 10: 243
November 12: 269
November 17: 85

Total cases on November 18: 5,028 (+48, total quintuple the number since October 1)
In hospital: 78
Deaths: 31 (+7)
Weekly positivity rate: 53.8%, total 19.8%

KEARNEY — Kearney Police Chief Bryan Waugh is asking for voluntary compliance from citizens and businesses with the city of Kearney’s new mask mandate.

“Our goal is not to criminalize public health,” Waugh said.

The ordinance requires people age 5 and older to wear masks in public to slow the spread of the coronavirus and ease the volume of COVID-19 cases filling Kearney’s hospitals. Executives of CHI Health Good Samaritan and Kearney Regional Medical Center urged the City Council last week to enact a mask ordinance and encourage other measures to protect the public.

On Tuesday, the Kearney City Council unanimously approved the ordinance, which goes into effect Monday and lasts through Feb. 23, 2021.

Assuming the affidavit is legit, there’s nothing for a judge to really rule on. Palmer says that there were “threats” made against her during the public comment session, but she’s not saying that they influenced her vote. She admits that she was made a “promise” of an independent audit in order to change her vote, only for the SoS to say that such was “nonbinding” after the vote was recorded and the state’s vote total certified. So now she wants to “withdraw” certification and hold it hostage until the “disparities” in the Wayne County absentee votes are investigated to her satisfaction.

The reality: A judge will likely ask her (under penalty of perjury) if she was coerced into changing her vote (“No”) and if she changed her vote willingly (“Yes”). At that point, it doesn’t matter if the audit resolution was binding or not, she voted to certify and there’s no state law that allows her to rescind her vote if she doesn’t like the ultimate outcome.

More cities in the area are imposing restrictions.

The Cheyenne County Commissioners Monday approved a policy addressing COVID-19 and the increasing number of positive cases in Cheyenne County and the Nebraska Panhandle.

The policy addresses county employees, staff or elected official, and the public.

The policy states that if a person has tested positive for COVID-19, they must self-isolate at home until at least 10 days have passed since the date of the positive test, or at least 10 days have passed since the onset of symptoms, your symptoms have improved or you have been fever free for at least 24 hours.

If you have come in direct contact with a person has been diagnosed with the COVID-19 virus and you have tested negative for the COVID-19 virus, you must self-quarantine for 14 days. County Clerk Beth Fiegenschuh said the 10-day quarantine is from when a person has been diagnosed positive. The 14-day period is if a person has come in contact with someone diagnosed positive, but the person not determined to be positive has shown symptoms.

If an employee is quarantined for either testing positive or coming in contact with someone positive, the period of quarantine will be treated as sick leave vacation or unpaid time off. If the employee has not been exposed but become ill, any time from work will be considered sick leave and deducted from the employee’s sick bank. If there is no sick bank, the time will be taken from the vacation bank, and if there is no vacation time, the time off will be unpaid time.

A white supremacist autocracy is obviously their goal, but I don’t think they would take the kinds of risks they are taking now for it. They get more than one roll of the dice on the autocracy: They could simply re-trench, apply their lessons, and go on with the subversion they have executed for the last 60 years. What they are doing now is betting everything on a single throw, even knowing (as most of them do) that the odds are against them. Staying out of jail is something for which they would have only a single throw, right now, with the whole match riding on it.

Georgia’s Olivia Pearson Arrested For Helping Black People Vote. Again. Wonkette

You might recall the insane story of how Olivia Pearson, a civil rights activist and the first Black member of the Douglas, Georgia, city commission, got arrested and charged with voting fraud in 2012 for showing a first-time voter how to use a voting machine — Pearson didn’t touch the machine or tell the voter who to vote for, but she was prosecuted anyway because Georgia only allows helping people with voting if the helper certifies that the voter is illiterate, not just unfamiliar with the voting machine technology. Pearson was also charged for “falsely swearing” that the person she’d helped was illiterate or disabled, although she said poll workers had asked her to help the voter and given her the form to sign afterward.

If you get the sense that there’s a bit of bad blood between Pearson and local white officials in Douglas and Coffee County, you would get a nice pat on the head for being observant. She had also been investigated for such suspect activities as driving people to the polls, registering people to vote, and urging them to vote at election time. Such a troublemaker, in the John Lewis “good trouble” mold. And you know how many times he got arrested.

Pearson’s first trial, in 2017, resulted in a hung jury; when she was finally able to get the venue moved to another county for her second trial in 2018, the jury acquitted her after just 20 minutes of deliberation, and everyone except the people she made uncomfortable in Douglas cheered. Oh, and don’t forget, the prosecutor who went after Pearson over the six years of that case, District Attorney George Barnhill Sr., is the same worthless schmuck who initially decided the two white men who killed Ahmaud Arbery didn’t need to be arrested, because “self defense.” It’s a small racist world, isn’t it?

So, in COVID related news, right now, the Czech Parliament is debating a request by the government to extend the current state of emergency by an additional 30 days. The only fly in the ointment is that the government doesn’t have the votes for a 30 day extension (it’s a minority government).

So now the parties are haggling over just how long the extension will be….if indeed, any extension at all. The current state of emergency expires at 06:00 local time tomorrow morning. BTW, extremely stupid of the government not to get their ducks all in a row beforehand - they waited until yesterday before even attempting to shore up support for their extension request; that’s like a rookie mistake, and this bunch has been in charge since 2017.

We’re back to worrying about things which won’t happen.

***

Also:

On the italics, that was addressed by the Supreme Court on the faithless electors from the 2016 election, holding those laws to be constitutional.

The challenge would go both ways: Democrats objecting to the bullshyte electors and Republicans objecting to the real ones. Assuming both objections fail (GOP in the House, Dems in the Senate), all electors for that state are set aside and the number required to win is reduced. Additionally, representatives from that state may not be seated in the new Congress. Any state which does this is voting to have no representation.

Counting Electoral Votes: An Overview of Procedures at the Joint Session, Including Objections by Members of Congress (Congressional Research Service, PDF)

There’s a “safe harbor” provision here as well: if there are two sets of electors, one made in a timely fashion under state law and procedures, and the other not, the first set is deemed valid even if the House and Senate disagree. So, if one set of electors is certified properly and delivered by the Governor or SoS, then rando legislators can publish whatever scribble they want and it will be shitcanned in the joint session. The state’s electoral votes won’t be thrown out. This is on page 8 of the document.

I grabbed the link from Fark, and the common sentiment is that these man-babies (I think they’re both men) are trying to pull this shit now because they know there’s nothing that can actually be done and they’re either grandstanding for attention, or trying to avoid getting death threats from other Republicans.

One’s a woman, but otherwise that’s my guess. They refused to certify, and got called mean things by Democrats for a couple of hours, then caved and certified, and then got death threats from heavily armed unhinged MAGAts and are trying to claim backsies even after pinky swearing no backsies.

Yeah Sure WhatEVs  Nov 19, 2020 • 3:52:09am

Whatever.

New filings claim there was a Plan B the militiamen had drawn up, that involved a takeover of the Michigan capitol building by two hundred combatants who would stage a week-long series of televised executions of public officials.

And, according to government documents now on file in lower Michigan court, there was also a Plan C: burning down the state house leaving no survivors.

Despite the violent nature of the charges, including an alleged plan to hold a mock treason trial for the governor of Michigan once she was kidnapped, several of the defendants have had bond reductions and are now free.

64
Wendell Zurkowitz ((slave to the waffle light))  Nov 19, 2020 • 3:54:02am

If the election had been any closer, this plan might have succeeded. as it is, they are clinging to it just like they did with hydroxycholoroquinine because Trump is not big on thinking out plan B alternatives (unless he is afraid he has knocked up a bimbo after a round of unprotected extramarital sex)

and yes, if Corona had not come along, he most likely would have won

had hydroxycholoroquinine turned out to be an effective cure he would have won - by a landslide

The good news is, the commissioner apparently saw this coming and (as I obliquely alluded to in my post) introduced, and passed, a waiver of reconsideration, effectively stating that the certification is final and cannot be revisited. The papers they filed serve no purpose except as evidence of perjury.

Or served the GOP just fine by appearing to muddy the waters. A lot of their actions are not intended to have results, but are intended to simply have the appearance to their base of an investigation or wrongdoing that can then be trumpeted as Democrat corruption.

while this is happening (bad for trump)

“President Trump’s frantic post-election challenges are having the opposite effect of what he intended: He’s documenting his demise through a series of court fights and recounts showing Joe Biden’s victory to be all the more obvious and unassailable,” Axios reports.

Said election law expert Rick Hasen: “Each loss further cements Biden’s win.”

this is also happening (bad for conservatives)

Politico: “The conservative movement has become handicapped. Organizations can’t sound the alarm about President-elect Joe Biden’s agenda. Conservative reporters won’t take pitches about Biden’s rumored Cabinet contenders, insistent on covering evidence-deficient claims of voter fraud instead. One conservative group involved in policy advocacy backed off from hiring two soon-to-depart Trump administration officials after growing concerned about the consequences.”

And it’s all because of an unspoken rule set by President Trump: Do not acknowledge Biden’s imminent White House takeover. Those who have run afoul of the dictate have faced swift repercussions. Some have received angry emails from donors accusing them of siding with the ‘liberal media.’ Those who have tried to start revving up the grassroots engine — warning of what could unfold in January, particularly if Democrats win control of the Senate via two runoff races in Georgia — have been likened to turncoats by colleagues.”

Joe Biden’s transition team is in talks with multiple Republican leaders and officeholders to end the transition stalemate, warning them of risks to national security and public health if the president-elect isn’t granted access to the government.

I read somewhere that Seward had escaped death by the “lucky break” of having been in a bad carriage accident a few days previously, and had had his neck in some sort of brace because of it. When the assassin (the thuggish Lewis Powell) broke into Seward’s bedroom, he tried to cut the Secretary’s throat, but was foiled by the brace just long enough to allow Seward’s bodyguard time to intervene. Luck….

There’s a great book about the plot and hunt by and later against Booth, Manhunt. Booth wanted to kill Lincoln, Grant, Seward, & Johnson and cause chaos. Grant wasn’t attacked because he and his wife turned down an invitation to Fords Theater. Johnson’s attempted assassin got drunk with cold feet.

QAnon Mom Arrested For Murder of Fringe Legal Theorist (Daily Beast)

A once murky alliance forged in a world of internet conspiracy theories appears to have ended in murder this past Sunday, with an infamous QAnon mom accused of having shot a fringe legal theorist.

Neely Petrie-Blanchard, a Kentucky resident, had long ago lost custody of her daughters for reasons that are unclear. And to help in the task of getting them back, she turned to Chris Hallett, an amateur legal expert who offered bogus court services through a company called “E-Clause,” and who promised Petrie-Blanchard she could win her daughters back through ludicrous courtroom tactics he borrowed from the anti-government sovereign citizen’s movement.

Petrie-Blanchard went all-in on Hallett’s promises. When she did see her daughters, she dressed them in “E-Clause” shirts and put a vanity “ECLAUSE” license plate on her car.

But, along the way, something went wrong. On Sunday night, Hallett was found face down in the kitchen of his central Florida home, bleeding from multiple gunshot wounds to his back.

In what must be music to Gov. Ricketts’s ears, Gering Public School (Gering is the county seat of Scott’s Bluff County) is about to collapse under the weight of Covid-19 in Gering.

COVID-19 has severely impacted Gering Public Schools

Spread is not happening at school, but community transmission is seriously affecting Gering Public Schools’ ability to function, according to interim Superintendent Gary Cooper.

During a Board of Education meeting on Monday night, Cooper painted a dire picture of a district impacted by community spread of COVID-19, echoing many of the problems Scottsbluff Public Schools Superintendent Rick Myles outlined just a week earlier.

“As you know, COVID-19 has been at the forefront of everything the district wants me to provide leadership in,” Cooper said. “The biggest thing is we’ve never experienced this before so I’m not sure how the leadership is supposed to look.”

In all, Gering has seen 123 positive cases during this school year, 46 of which are active. Of those 46 cases, 28 are at the high school or junior high school, according to the district’s COVID-19 dashboard.

When Cooper gave his superintendent’s report on Monday night, Gering’s active case count was 54, which is about 2.5% of the district’s population.

Lawyers, Guns, and Money goes after Emily Murphy and CNN.

CNN has a shape-of-the-Earth-views-differ piece of special pleading for Emily Murphy, the General Services Administrator who is refusing to provide the ascertainment that Joe Biden is entitled to as the president-elect. It is massively unconvincing, and indeed is unable to provide anything remotely resembling a decent reason for going along with Donald Trump’s electoral theft operation while obstructing transition during a deadly pandemic. As with many of these, it’s a strangely structured piece, alternating between arguing that Murphy is in an impossible spot and quietly noting that there’s no actual defensible basis for her actions… .

From that article, the equivocation by CNN:

Sources who spoke to CNN could not say whether Murphy has been in touch with the White House on the issue.”She absolutely feels like she’s in a hard place. She’s afraid on multiple levels. It’s a terrible situation,” one friend and former colleague of Murphy’s told CNN. “Emily is a consummate professional, a deeply moral person, but also a very scrupulous attorney who is in a very difficult position with an unclear law and precedence that is behind her stance.

She is not a deeply moral person. She is violating the law.

Emily Murphy is damaging the country for no defensible reason

As I lamented on election night, the lack of Democratic wins in the Senate (specifically the failure to flip IA and Maine) really hobbles Biden.

The story is clear by now - Biden will be undermined from day one. No, even before day one with the current fiascos.

There is no clearer evidence that the theocratic takeover of the GOP is intended to take the US back a couple of centuries.

it’s a metaphor. ok, an insensitive and imperfect one

first, the plain truth is people arent getting infected because they’re out ‘earning income’ that ‘the government’ wont temporarily subsidize

they’re getting infected because they are doing a laundry list of unsafe things

they are not masking, distancing and washing
and
they are making decisions to engage in activities that are not necessary, or critical to their survival or safety

if they government ‘paid them to stay home’ they’d still be not masking and they’d still be going to restaurants, bars, ball games, thanksgiving, enrolling their kids in whatever sport….

Maybe both.

Folks are still being required to go to workplaces or schools which are not necessary at the moment. The so-called essential workers tend to be those who receive the least pay.

Part of being a politician is being able to make hard, unpopular decisions, even when feral and violent conservatives are harassing you.

Every state in the Union is exactly in the same place it was at the start of all this: A two- or three-week shutdown breaks the chain-of-transmission, which in turn makes contact tracing simpler.

California lawmakers defend Hawaiian trip as criticism mounts

The California lawmakers criticized for agreeing to attend a week-long policy conference on the sandy beaches of Maui may have had to put down their mai tais for a moment to deal with the blistering criticism that has continued at home.

The Los Angeles Times reported that the annual conference is being held at the Fairmont Kea Lani Hotel, where the rooms can cost more than $500 per night.

The event—which is traditionally subsidized by lobbying groups—gets criticized during a normal year. But this year, with so many families in the state facing financial hardships, the meeting has been met with even more scrutiny.

GOP to America: Merry fucking Christmas, losers!

Millions of Americans who lost their jobs to the mass layoffs caused by the coronavirus pandemic will be cut off from government aid at the end of December unless Congress acts, a study said on Wednesday.

Lawmakers in March passed the $2.2 trillion CARES Act that expanded the unemployment safety net as Covid-19 wrecked the economy, offering benefits to workers not normally eligible and extending the length of time laid-off Americans could receive benefits.

But funding for those programs expires on December 26, and a study from The Century Foundation estimates that nearly 12 million workers will be receiving benefits from the two main expanded unemployment programs when funding expires.

“This cutoff threatens to pull the rug out from under an economy that has already seen millions of workers lose their state unemployment benefits this fall,” the New York-based progressive think tank said in its report.

Washington lawmakers have negotiated for months over whether to pass a follow-up measures to the CARES Act. But Democrats and Republicans have been unable to agree on how much to spend or what to spend it on, and there’s little reason to believe progress will be achieved before the new Congress is seated in January.

The United States is home to the world’s largest coronavirus outbreak, with nearly 249,000 deaths as of Wednesday, according to Johns Hopkins University.

Business shutdowns to stop the virus’s spread caused the unemployment rate to spike to 14.7 percent in April as millions of people filed new claims for jobless benefits each week.

Also worth noting: There were almost one million NEW filings for unemployment just this past week.

Meanwhile, there’s talk of a Government shutdown at year’s end. Trump won’t sign the CR.

Rebukes NOT from Biden. It is McConnell and Gingrich who are the true enemies of our democracy. Without Gingrich, the GOP would not have taken over Congress in the ’90s and damaged this nation and without McConnell, Obama would have accomplished far more and would have been able to get his appointment to SCOTUS. Trump is still President because of McConnell and Trump’s temper tantrum is enabled by McConnell. The remaining members of the GOP are as terrible as McConnell but not as effective.

another question that begs to be asked is why these canvassing boards are staffed with partisan hacks and why each party has equal representation guaranteeing deadlock?

I’d actually to a degree prefer that since I suspect that the boards would otherwise be under the purview/control of the state legislature and probably be in majority control of that party.

And PA, WI, and MI have all shown repeatedly that a minority party in control of a state legislature is pretty much ratfucking central when it comes gerrymandering and other electoral shenanigans as they pull every trick possible to retain control.

Trump’s coronavirus treatment was approx $100,000.

There”s an article in People last week about the guy who was California’s first Covid case. He picked it up on a ski trip to Italy last winter. Everybody in his group felt awful for the last few days of the trip. Then they flew home, commercial. (the article doesn’t mention how many others on his flight got sick). 3 days after he returned he was in the hospital, a week after that on a vent. He was in the hospital for months. His insurance covered most of the $3 million cost of his care.

But yeah, controlling the outbreak early, when we still could, would have hurt the economy.

I am not a big fan of things zombie, but I really enjoyed the novel World War Z, less for the zombies than for how it describes the pattern of how humanity fails to deal with a pandemic: first by ignoring it, then denying it, then trying to cover it up so as not to spread panic, all of which has the opposite effect when the lid blows off and it starts to spread, then all conventional methods fail because this is an unprecedented thing, then finally a major change of approach (and leadership) who adopt often unpopular and usually unconventional measures to get things under control.

The offenses are there. All I know is I don’t want to hear about how it might divide the country, or piss off malcontents, or how it slows the healing process. Ignoring it literally changes the course of this country, taking it further down the path of fascism. Upper tier Dems need to grow a pair.

Just as a side note, could we retire “grow a pair” from this discussion? Nancy Pelosi didn’t need them to do her job, Stacey Abrams gave us Georgia without them, Kamala Harris… well the list goes on.

In fact, on the evidence, we should be telling people to lose a pair, so they can get the job done.

(As to the subject matter, we should all be telling our representatives — if yours are repugs, tell Joe Biden and Kamala Harris — that any attempt to leave this behind and heal will do further damage to the country, and they would be derelict in their duty if they failed to pursue it.

(The AJ they choose — if the repugs block them, pick one AJ and one deputy and swap them around every 200 days while loudly lamenting the repugs’ lawlessness — should make this one of their highest priorities.)

If the Republicans retain control of the Senate and refuse to confirm ANY Biden appointment, how can Biden operate? How can anything be accomplished? How can there be investigations if members of the DOJ are going to be evicted every 200 days? This is terrifying. McConnell proved that during the Obama administration he could stop any Obama judicial appointments and now he is leading the way for a repeat performance on a grander scale. There isn’t a single Republican who will not use McConnell as a role model for obstruction.

My guess is that is one way McConnell may force Biden to capitulate. It’s one thing if the Democrats have control of the Senate — but without that, given that Trump has decapitated so many departments, Biden may find it impossible to govern at all. His election slowed down the destruction of our democracy — but it’s still going forward.

GOP delenda est. But that’s not sufficient. After all, Newmax and OAN have proved there are worse alternatives to Faux News. This is a continuing nightmare, even though Trump may not have yet succeeded in his coup, McConnell is running with it.

Simply use temporary appointments the same way Trump did.

If there’s a 200 day limit, replace them with a different temporary person for one day, then bring the original temporary person back for another 200 day span and repeat as many times as needed. I really doubt there’s a law against a person serving multiple temporary appointments.

Don’t know if anyone saw this but the Whitmer kidnapping plot is even more crazy than we thought. I really hope that this is the most extreme that’s been encouraged by Trump but damn just thinking about the Lincoln assassination conspiracy, this is terrorism what these guys wanted to do. Pure and simple. And worst thing is that the Presidency seems to encourage it. Trump created, woke up, or whatever you want to phrase something I fear really dangerous in our country. Governor Whitmer is quite honestly one of the toughest leaders in the country right now. She has my admiration.

Yeah I’ve been seeing the stuff coming out about him. Hell I visited the same site in Germany that he did but I didn’t do a goofy selfie about it and I also visited Sachsenhausen on the same trip. If there’s a 200 day limit, replace them with a different temporary person for one day, then bring the original temporary person back for another 200 day span and repeat as many times as needed. I really doubt there’s a law against a person serving multiple temporary appointments.

If the FBI announced that a group of Muslim men had intended to assassinate a state governor or (failing that) storm a legislature and begin executing any who refused to bow to their demands, the entire country would currently be in lockdown as Repubs talked endlessly about the “radical Islamic terrorists” set on bringing down our democracy.

Yep, that’s absolutely right. As I’ve said as someone familiar with the details of the Lincoln assassination plot, this may have been more terroristic than that in what they planned to do. That the term “faithless electors” is being used as anything other than an electoral oddity is a truly sad indictment of our nation at this moment. A political party is talking seriously about installing the losing candidate in an outright coup…and our media treats that as an object of interest rather than a plot against our nation itself.
