I’m going to remember the silence of so called libertarians like Ron and Rand Paul here who love to act like they’re anti big government and authoritarianism but choose to stay silent and in Rand’s case outright complicit in an attempted coup. It’s a failing an attempted coup but yes Sideshow Don, they still give out punishments for attempting coups.

Modern Libertarianism rejects democracy because ordinary citizens can have Reps introduce public sector spending legislation, regulations, and other limitations rather than just 100% “free market” bullshit. Democracy is now the enemy of Libertarians and in its place is the notion of a fantasy dictatorship that enforces Capitalism at all costs. Think Pinochet as an example.

Some of them are cheering him on, some of them are so ensconced in White Privilege that they’re free to vote for a Republican on Election day, for whatever reason they tell themselves, and then stop caring about what happens in politics after that.

Dr Lizardo  Nov 19, 2020 • 11:03:23am

When you’ve lost Czech President Miloš Zeman, well……

Donald Trump would be wiser to acknowledge losing the U.S. presidential election and quit, Czech President Milos Zeman, an early Trump supporter, said on Thursday.

Zeman, one of the few European politicians who backed Trump before his 2016 election victory but who made no such endorsement this year, told news website parlamentnilisty.cz that while it was possible to demand recounts and go to court, Trump should take a different route.

“I personally believe that it would be much more reasonable to give up, not to be embarrassing, and allow the new president to take office,” he said.

ca.reuters.com

In truth, Miloš Zeman is pretty embarrassing to most Czechs too; he’s a notorious drunk among other things. He’s nowhere near as bad as Trump but he’s still seen as a colossal embarrassment which makes him saying this even more significant.

I think at the end of the day even more than the right to not be hassled by cops or anything else, the ultimate zenith of White Privilege is the ability to be politically uniformed, not misinformed like the people who are into Fox News or OANN but to just be so certain of your standing in society that you can afford to cast your vote and then stop worrying about the election.

I think this also is the seed from which the “can’t both sides just get along” poisoned tree springs, because you’ve done as much political stuff as you want to do every four years, why do people have to keep bringing politics into everything?

The biggest problem is no consequences. Ever. Used to be, treasonous shit got somebody executed. It was treated very seriously. In actual reality, an injunction is only issued if the plaintiff is likely to prevail on the merits, and not issuing the injunction would be injurious to the plaintiff. They are 1-29 in federal and state courts so far, I don’t think they can even come close to meeting the “likely to prevail” bar to get a preliminary injunction issued.

This point remains: NO form of libertarianism has ever been Democratic. Not a one. Curtis Yarvin’s end argument was always: “Abolish democracy. I got mine. She isn’t entirely wrong about the process for obtaining an injunction. You don’t have to put on your entire case in chief. But there are few standard elements for obtaining an injunction—one of which is likelihood of success on the merits. In order to properly evaluate in whose favor that prong points, the person requesting the injunction needs to present some evidence showing they have a good case.

But aside from all of that…a press conference isn’t a court of law. Show us the fucking evidence.

Look up “Hybrid Regime”.

Under Republican Congressional dominance we have been trending towards being just another Russia or Turkey for a long while now. Trump sent us firmly over the threshold defining a Flawed Democracy and a Hybrid Regime. The only hope of at least attempting a reversal back to Flawed Democracy is for Biden and Democrats to RIGHT NOW start publicly shaming Trump and his gangster efforts to billy his way to a 2nd term.

Trump will dispense with elections altogether in his 2nd term with the full support of Republicans.

I disagree, they wouldn’t/won’t disperse with elections, Americans are too fond of them and it is too obvious. They’d just want to figure out a better more effective way of rigging them to make sure that the right people always win like how Putin keeps getting 90%+ of the vote.

People love the pageantry of elections. They won’t go away, if only because of the enormous number of down-ballot races. In other authoritarian countries, elections persist. (There is no “free and fair” in the definition of the word.)

I think that if we get those election certifications on schedule, we’re going to start to see a bit (and hopefully more than a bit) of pushback on the bullshit from PE Biden (and Dems in general). Once the numbers are all in and “finalized”, The Trump gang’s only options are more lawsuits (presumably in higher courts) - which, since virtually NONE of their lower-court claims have gotten any traction, doesn’t bode well for their prospects; and/or attempted fuckery with state Legislatures and electors, etc. - which probably violates numerous state laws, and is likely (unlike the Trump suits) to get tossed by the first judge they encounter.

and it all is enabled by our main networks and CNN, because they would rather have their pundits on describing what they think Democrats are going to do instead of simply booking them and asking them. You see them book GOP legislators all the time and then they get to either prattle on unchallenged or paired with a like-minded pundit to lead them along.

Dems are not getting those opportunities… not even on MSNBC which is supposed to at least present the Dem POV.

There are a number of erudite Dem legislators, Lieu, Porter etc and I don’t even need a camera secure person, just someone who can explain what is going on and what the bill does and does not do… but when the people who control the message and control the frame of the message not giving you a chance, that makes it tougher.

It’s all well and good to say, throw it on Instagram, the problem is the people that need to see and hear the message are NOT using FUCKING INSTAGRAM, much less know how to consume its content.

a bunch of R states would have to do it and there arent enough R states where someone in the correct position of power (ie not the legislatures) would be willing to bring the entire country down over this

the legislatures they are targeting ‘creating’ their own slate of electors out of whole cloth has about as much authority as if I did it myself. Congress would not be receiving two opposing slates. they’d be receiving one real, legitimate and legal and one meaningless and worthless.

Define “landslide” in this context, Sydney.

EVs? Biden’s won exactly as many EVs as Trump did in ‘16. And even if you flipped the states you insist that he Trump “won,” he would only increase his winning margin by 6 votes. For context, that would make him only slightly more of a “winner” than George the Lesser was and only the third president since Nixon in ‘68 to win less than 330 EVs.

PV? Again, even if you somehow flip those states, the vote margins in CA and NY mean Trump will never be able to claim a PV “landslide.” It would simply be another notch in the “EV win/PV loss” column for the Repubs.

Stick to conspiracy theories about the FBI out to get Flynn to make Trump look bad. Those at least seemed believable, even if totally at odds with…well, everything.

Follow up story on the “affinity fraud” aka Ponzi scheme at Bethel Church Redding, where they love them some Donald Trump and have prophets saying he won the election. This is fallout from the Ponzi scheme where the perp tried to escape from the FBI by diving into Lake Shasta. Highlights:

1) The church’s website has had to warn about affinity fraud since at least 2014.

2) A massive affinity fraud took place there in the ’00s abd that perp is in prison.

3) This guy and his family had gone to Bethel dor a few years but weren’t actually members.

4) The scammer claimed to gave a personal line to Donald Trump.

This goes along with the usual Bethel stuff: prosperity gospel, COVID hotspot and “Christian Hogwarts”, and IMHO malign influence on Redding.

Worth a read.

The sad realization I came to is that too many Republican Senators would be fine with a dictator Trump, as long as Trump dropped enough “Jesus” in his declaration.

What apps should I use? We used Skype at work but I never used a cam, just audio. I’m extremely clueless.

For webcams, Logitech are all pretty good. Both the Logitech C270 (about $40) and Logitech C525 ($60) Logitech C920 (around $100) are fine for normal work.

I strongly recommend using whereby rather than skype or zoom, which are both terrible.

Whereby works in a browser, doesn’t spy on your computer, and is actually pleasant to use: whereby.com

I’d also recommend getting a 3.5mm extension cable, and any old headphones. Although you can have one-to-one meetings and the software is able to cancel out one persons noise, as soon as you have more than two people on a call, background and echo’ing noise becomes quite annoying.
