LYRICS
86 summers gone by
Bambino put a hex on the Bean
We were livin’ on a tear and a sigh
In the shadow of the Bronx machine

Man, you could feel it smolder
Whole town had an attitude
Tend to get a little chip on your shoulder
Say something that’s downright rude

Damn them Yankees
Outspending everybody 2 to 1
Picking up on the cream of the crop
Stealing everyone’s favorite son

Angels of Fenway – hear our prayer
We have been chastened
We have been patient

Grandmama was a Fenway fan
Even after grandad died
I still remember her holding my hand
Takin’ me along for the ride
She was born in 1918
Last year that the Red Sox won
Back then when they sold the Babe
Something that they never should have
Ever have done

“Hey Nanna can I have another Coke
Here comes the hot dog man
Look at that! His bat just broke
Gee, that’s got to kill his hand”

Riding home on the Green Line
Watching the town go by
Nanna made another Red Sox fan
‘Til the day I die

That was back in ’65
Doesn’t seem like a long time ago
Grandmama keeping hope alive
Watched them win in ‘004

Oh my god, it was beyond belief
Down 3 needing 4 in a row
Holding on by the skin of our teeth
Like a hungry dog on a bone

Angels of Fenway – give them peace
They have been patient
Red Sox Nation

The whole world held its breath
People got down on their knees
Ready for the sudden death
Praying to heaven for hell to freeze

Nanna watched from her hospital bed
She was there ’til the end of the race
I couldn’t hear the last words she said
But she was lying there with a smile on her face

Just a little smile on her face
Doesn’t feel like a long time ago

Thanks for the memories Charles. My Nana was a life long Red Sox fan. Took the bus into Boston to watch many a game and otherwise, listened to every game on the radio. She knew the statistics for every player. She loved the Sox.

Unfortunately, didn’t live long enough to see them win the World Series.

While we may have won, I remain in fear of our democracy. The folks I work with - college educated, yet utterly devout fundamentalists - are but a fraction of the core support FFVCS has tapped into. The uneducated, racist goobers long ago went that way.

My county went 76 percent for FFVCS, which was an INCREASE of his total from 4 years ago. The only solace is that my county likely lost population when and if an accurate census it totaled.

But as a student of political science, I cannot deny we are at a Weimar Republic stage in our history. One of our two major parties is willing to completely undermine democratic election results. They are desperate to maintain white, authoritarian control.

By whatever means necessary.

Holy fucking shit. They’re literally insane. They’re rapidly approaching the tipping point which defines the worst possible conspiracy theory - the point in which every single person in the world, except for the conspiracy theorists themselves, must have been “in on it”. This happens when the number of people and groups who are supposedly “in on it” grows so large that, by extension, literally everyone in the world must have knowledge of the plot.

I think you mean Weimar Republic, the Wehrmacht was the German Army in WW2.

That said we have something the Weimar Repulic didn’t, it was created in the wake of loosing a war and had only been around for less than four decades before Hitler came to power, America has been a democracy for over 200 years, we can still all too easily slip into being a “democracy” with “elections” like Russia is right now, but the fact that we’ve established rules and institutions does count for something even if it isn’t as much as it should have.

There’s no indication that AG James has 67 indictments ready.

I think that’s someone pulling a number out of their arse. I do believe indictments are coming, but have no idea of the scope or number.

I do know that if the SDNY is able to pursue cases against Trump, Trump faces at least 4 charges in connection to Michael Cohen’s felony case: wire/mail fraud, election finance fraud, money laundering, and conspiracy.

They have nothing on South Dakota, which apparently has decided to lie about ICU bed availability statewide.

They’ve conflated ICU and NICU beds to give appearance that they have more capacity than they actually do.

And it doesn’t matter, because the deaths will come, the ICUs and hospitals will be overwhelmed, and the staff will continue to get sick from exposures, and the GOPers will claim all is well as their constituents die horribly.

According to one Jordan Sekulow (son of Jay and also apparently a Trump lawyer) there is going to be a new, huge and entirely new lawsuit coming to Georgia on Monday or Tuesday. Whole new issue which will blow the election wide open.

I covered local news - from sports to local government - until 2012. Saw the handwriting on the wall. Up until that time, we would give the masses a report of EVERYTHING that happened at a ballgame, council meeting, or county commission gathering.

Once I left the local newspaper, I saw its gradual destruction. The paper no longer is printed on-site. Instead, any government meeting gets a “round-up” three days after it happens. And no reporter has any local ties to the community.

I had already seen the horrors of a local website - Topix - posting any and all social commentary as a forerunner to Facebook. Now it is in full, global display.

Even when FFVCS ultimately loses, he will be running a shadow presidency for the next four years, with the full support of our “unbiased” and utterly biased media. And just like Berlusconi in Italy, he will continue his grip of power.

No one in America has even been able to convince the media to depict them as a “shadow president” and it’ll be even harder to do while either holding rallies and or fighting off court cases.

Please remember Trump isn’t some brilliant mastermind, yeah he’ll keep flailing away, but once he’s no longer actually the President, he’ll just be another kook in a country full of them.

Unfortunately, she will probably have a mild or even asymptomatic case and then be free to reinforce the lie that there is nothing to it.

I was going to ask the group here whether anyone knew the status of Crede Bailey, the one WH staffer who apparently contracted a serious case of the disease. He seemed to have dropped off the face of the earth since early October when it was reported that he was gravely ill. But I just found the following gofundme page which is very disturbing if true. The WH has been absolutely silent about this.

This is a campaign to help Crede Bailey and his family with medical and healing expenses necessary as a result of Crede’s COVID-19 illness and the life-altering results. First let me say that Crede will NOT be happy I’ve done this as he is a proud man who is the first to help everyone else but would never ask for help himself.

But the reality is this. His family has staggering medical bills from a hospital stay of 2+ months and still counting in the ICU and a long road ahead in rehab before he can go home. When he does make it home there will be major changes necessary to deal with his new, and permanent, disability.

And in this way, too, López Obrador’s experience highlights the tensions inherent in the implicit requirement of democracies that losers concede: He didn’t admit defeat, and, in the end, he was more successful for it.

His two unsuccessful campaigns for president, and his insistence both times that victory had been wrongfully taken from him, sowed the seeds for a third and eventually successful bid.[…]

In López Obrador’s case, refusing to concede didn’t doom his political career. Instead, his obstinacy helped him triumph.

My parents were Boston-born in 1919 and died in 1988/1989, so lived their whole lives without ever seeing the Sox win a series.

As a lifelong Red Sox fan and a huge James Taylor fan, this song made my night—can’t believe I never heard it before.

Yes, he did acknowledge Biden won PA, but nothing on assault on democracy and attempted sedition. Real profile in courage.

It’s never going to happen. The farthest that the “brave” Repubs will ever go is saying that Donny gave it his best, he lost, so he needs to concede. When challenged on the seditious nature of his efforts to overturn the election in the courts or by bribing/threatening legislatures to override the will of voters, they’ll suddenly notice they’re “late” for a meeting and disappear.

That, and there is, very simply, no case. Even to use as a fig leaf. This has been shown time again by numerous Republican judges, including Trump appointees, tossing out the lawsuits without further ado. No “there” there. SCOTUS would not be different, but since everything is that clear after that many cases at this point of time, it’s unlikely SCOTUS will even accept any such case for a review.

Smartest thing the USSC bench could choose to do at this point would be simply to announce that they won’t hear the appeal, that the lower court dismissal will be allowed to stand. Barring that, the next most likely would be to agree to hear the appeal, allow Rudy and Co. to make fools of themselves on the national stage, and then rule to allow the lower court ruling to stand. And the last most likely would to be hear the appeal, and then bounce it back down to the lower court for the final kick in the jimmies.

It’s not these law suits that concern me; it’s questions like: what if state level Republicans refuse to certify results or if GOP legislatures appoint a competing slate of electors (as happened in 1876). What if those are the decisions facing SCOTUS? An originalist interpretation of Article II may allow that to go forward.

In PA case I will start worrying about that only if and when this changes (and the time is running out, and after the decision I don’t see it happening):

“We have said it many times and we will happily say it again,” Corman and House Majority leader Kerry Benninghoff wrote in an op-ed earlier last month. “The Pennsylvania General Assembly does not have and will not have a hand in choosing the state’s presidential electors or in deciding the outcome of the presidential election.”

Which is enough people to not need a conspiracy since if they voted for Biden legitimately… Biden would win.

Clarence Thomas is the type who will help send blacks “back to Africa“ or simply shoved into the Atlantic. He is a true believer and a psychopath.

The rest of the Conservative court will not back Trump as his usefulness towards their cause is dead for now. He has failed and they know it. But they are continuing the long game of erasing the era of 1870-2016 from US memory and rewriting all of US history in the process. Trump has been nothing more to them but a tool to be used and nothing more. He is expendable in their war against 98% of the world.
