Didn’t feel like turkey this year so it’s a Brooklyn Ave sandwich from Canter’s Deli in Los Angeles.

Our chicken just came out. More than enough for the 3 of us.

Well, living in Nebraska, we have to go by the slogan “Beef. It’s what’s for dinner.”

So, T-bone steak this evening, with potatoes and homemade cranberry-walnut sauce home canned earlier in the year.

On the Supreme Court decision allowing Christians to commit genocide, the show Atheist Experience dealt with a caller last week who insisted churches must be allowed to remain open during an epidemic.

When directly challenged on spreading disease to other people who did not choose to become ill from Christian selfishness, the caller hangs up.

When directly challenged, such people can only change their position, or defend genocide.

Since a Christian cannot do the first (they must reason themselves out of faith), and cannot admit they are fine with genocide, they can only quit the discussion and take their apologetics to a different person and make the same argument (churches must be allowed to remain open during an epidemic).

Churches intentionally set up their adherents to fail on purpose. Apologetics is a difficult field for a well-educated person. Arguments set up by some rando are easy to tear apart (so you support genocide, cool). The goal is to have that person come back to their church talking about how mean and evil the non-believers are, so they are love-bombed with “Jesus loves you” and such.

The goal of churches sending out untrained believers to evangelise is to keep their believers in the pews, not to convert anyone.

So just to chime in here, our Thanksgiving “feast”* will be mainly vegetarian (corn**, leeks, peppers, mushrooms and baked potatoes) for Mrs. Jay: for me, I’m going to go with my old Turkey Day standby from my pal Martha Stewart: sautéed turkey breast with a Dijon-mustard sauce. Oh, and extra garlic: MUST have garlic….

*given our usual modest dining standards, this is a Lucullian food-orgy
** Maize gods willing: very late in the season for good corn.

A Mom Anon  Nov 26, 2020 • 12:18:33pm

Since there’s only 3 of us and Cleo, I got a 7 lb turkey breast that’s in the oven. I’m making all the standards, stuffing, potatoes and gravy, green bean casserole, rolls and for dessert it’s chocolate chip chocolate cheesecake.

I hope everyone is having a good day wherever you are and however you celebrate today. Be safe and have fun. ❤️

They’ve already announced that the official POTUS account gets yanked after the inauguration, so I’m guessing it’s only a matter of time afterward before he has a total meltdown and either flounces or has the banhammer brought down on his head. One of the core tenets of Jewish teachings is that all mitzvot and traditions are superseded by public health concerns. If there’s a public health crisis requiring suspension of gatherings, sanctity of human life is paramount. The mitzvot, including gathering for services is superseded by the need to protect the public.

This is what those fucking lunatics in Brooklyn and the Catholic diocese want everyone to ignore. Even by their own religious teachings, this is bulkshit on a stick.

Gorsuch’s reasoning is as thin as Barrett’s resume.

The basic argument though is that it’s not up to the Supreme Court what constitutes a “valid” religious belief. The hypocrisy lies in that the Supreme Court has always ruled a religion cannot supersede the rights or lives of others (hence, no human sacrifices).

That is only honoured in the breach though (no humanist/atheist chaplains allowed in the military, the twenty-five year fight by Wiccans to be recognised by the VA, &c)

I do hope the editor at the NYT realizes that after Jan, Maggie’s job as “palace intrigue whisperer” effectively ends. Joe doesn’t need somebody there to regularly gives his ego hand jobs, and the WH staff is going to be tight-lipped around somebody who has all but admitted she’s on the Trump payroll. Which means we can look forward to a lot of “The WH is so mean for not even letting us in the front door!” stories over the next 4 years.

I’m betting the Mitch will not even bring up for consideration any candidate for any expanded Supreme Court seat.

The only way to solve the judicial crisis is for the Democrats to take a majority position in the Senate.

And it is clear this is a very difficult thing.

So I lamented that the Dems were not able to flip the ME or IA seats. Those were so important for fixing what was wrong. But it didn’t happen.

Thus my pessimism.

This would have been one of the largest gold mines in the world.

The proponents did lose support of Senators’ Murkowski and Sullivan (both R’s) after one of the mine backers was caught on tape/video bragging how the politicians were just sitting back and letting them proceed. The Senators were very afraid of loosing support from the Natives.

And yes, Sullivan was re-elected. (After denouncing the mine.)

So telling: Joe and Jill Biden’s Thanksgiving message(s) to the country are 1) A reassurance that despite the horrific problems we are going through (and the inability to connect with family), things WILL be better [by next year]; and 2) Publicly-expressed thanks to the nation’s First Responders/healthcare workers for the shit they have had to go through.

Donald Trump’s message?

Mendacious bitching about the election: and a sour admonition that no one should “give Joe Biden credit” - for, presumably, anything….

Pro-Trump Group Donor Sues Over Failure to Expose Election Fraud (Bloomberg)

A pro-Trump group that promised to challenge the Nov. 3 election results and expose fraud was sued by a North Carolina money manager who donated $2.5 million to the cause but says he didn’t get his money’s worth.

Fred Eshelman, founder of Eshelman Ventures LLC, wants his money back, saying he “regularly and repeatedly” asked for updates on the project but his “requests were consistently met with vague responses, platitudes, and empty promises,” according to the lawsuit filed Wednesday in Houston federal court.

Houston-based True the Vote Inc. had promised a multi-pronged plan to “investigate, litigate, and expose suspected illegal balloting and fraud in the 2020 general election,” according to the lawsuit.

In the weeks after the election, True the Vote filed four lawsuits, but it dropped them all last week. “While we stand by the voters’ testimony that was brought forth, barriers to advancing our arguments, coupled with constraints on time, made it necessary for us to pursue a different path,” the group announced on its website on Nov. 17.

So this investment manager is not aware True the Vote is a giant grift? If I had money invested with him I’d seriously consider getting my money away from him tomorrow.

“barrier to advancing our arguments” being something like “no one would testify under oath and cross-examination” or “no lawyer is stupid enough to go before a judge with this horseshit.”

I gave our dog too much turkey skin.

A couple of days ago on my birthday evening she came up to jump on the bed and then sat on my head: “I am trying to get your attention, fuckface!” It was 4am and I thought she could wait at least another hour. I was wrong. We let her lick the plates of mashed potatoes and steak droppings. I went downstairs and stepped in it. I won’t make that mistake again.

Or will I?…..

So, I ate my Thanksgiving dinner (which was fine, but I like the dishes I make with leftover turkey better than the original fixings) while watching my favorite Thanksgiving movie, “Pieces of April.” Amazing how well it holds up all these years later (and fun to watch Alison Pill and John Gallagher, Jr., who were love interests on The Newsroom, playing brother and sister.)

Bit of trivia—fabulous actress, Patricia Clarkson, has only been nominated once for an Oscar, and it was for “Pieces of April.”

This simple truth goes against the tenets of conservative faith. Ten thousand restaurant owners could say this and it wouldn’t make a dent.

goofy coonhound had one of those bad nights a couple of months ago.
Around 2 or 3 am she started vomiting, followed by the explosive bowels and she kept trying to outrun all of it all throughout the house.

yeah…the stuff of actual nightmares…

Have you heard their new album (The Symbol Remains, dropped on 10/9/2020)? It’s really good and strong too. It’s good to be a BOC fan :D

I saw it on Amazon but didn’t check it out. Next time I’m there I’ll check it.
