This video was originally released on March 19, 2020, as part of Yo-Yo Ma’s #SongsOfComfort project, which was launched at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic to provide comfort in a time of anxiety and fear. The project inspired thousands of people around the world to upload their own songs of comfort in the months that followed.

The people at Evident Life Church are seriously hostile. I had one woman tell me, as she was driving out, “Nobody cares, bitch.” Pastor Jose said I was “hateful” several times. I told him I was amused. I also told him that their hostility was worse than Scientology’s. Thinking about it, maybe they’re *tied*. But seriously, the hostility was bad. Other churches have sent people out to talk to me nicely, offer me water, etc.
That said, I did have a nice chat with a guy wearing an El Salvador jacket and a mask (unlike many of the other attendees). This was his first time at the church. He agreed with my revised sign and I warned him that the congregation is all in on Trump conspiracy theories. I pointed him to the church’s YouTube channel so that he wouldn’t think I was talking nonsense. So that was my one good deed of the day.
(The other side said “Pastor Eric Jones: The Constitution TRUMPS your False Prophets!” but you’ve seen that before.)
Next week I’ll make a point of having one sign in español. My Spanish is lousy but it’s good enough to come up with a pithy sentence about how their pastor is a false prophet. Apparently the people think Eric Jones is a prophet of some sort. So yeah, I’m going to amp it up just a tad.

I don’t know if they’re still airing them, but hgtv or one of those cable channels used to have a show about building tiny houses. I could never live in one, but it was fascinating especially when it came to storage and creative use of space. A lot of times, the key element seemed to be having outdoor living space

The conclusion I’ve reached is to look at solutions made for boats (especially submarines) and campers and adapt them (if necessary), thinking in 3 dimensions, and remembering that the pod is for sleeping and basal workspace, then have shared spaces for anything outside that.

I am completely unsurprised. As I mentioned yesterday or the day before, churches have this really bad habit of rallying behind the perpetrators of child sexual abuse and treating the abused and their families like garbage. It’s all about money and power. (Did I mention that Eric Jones lives in a $575K house?)

The nice thing about tanks was after a day of driving you could park in a woodline, spin the turret so the gun is over the back deck with a tarp tented over it. Unroll your fart sack on the back deck, the armor holding warmth from the V12 turbo diesel running all day, and you’re set and quite cozy. I just wish the US had a hot water kettle like the British but there were places to stash the rations so they’d be warmed by the engine heat too.

In fact, the 47-year-old thinks he contracted the virus in October and recovered after experiencing mild symptoms.
But Jensen just doesn’t believe masks work to stop the virus’s spread. He also says that mask mandates infringe on personal freedoms.
That’s why Jensen decided to form No Mask Omaha and No Mask Lincoln, groups that were started in August and have grown to a combined 11,000 members.
About 35 people from multiple anti-mask groups participated in a demonstration near the Hy-Vee near 180th and Q Streets on Nov. 14. The protest, originally planned as a “small (maskless) group shopping trip,” was relocated to a nearby parking lot after the grocery store chain said it would work with Omaha police to block the protest from taking place at the store.
Jensen said he didn’t participate in the demonstration.

a shot of top-shelf tequila, splash of Grand Marnier, dash of Rose’s Lime. Chilled and strained. Smooth and sippable.
2) Tootsie Roll:
equal parts dark creme de cacao and orange juice. Tastes like its name.

I can’t get rid of Facebook because I use it for communication with my son. He’s autistic and face to face conversations are very hard sometimes. So we use it for talking about difficult topics like depression, anxiety, how isolation makes it worse, why following the medical and science about the pandemic is so important etc. I am friends with a few of his friends too, mostly as a friend and mentor. I got them all registered to vote and all but one voted. I don’t post a lot anymore but I do use it for that purpose and will do that til it becomes obsolete to my kid and his friends. It’s a tool for good too, or can be in the right hands.

There are lots of other options, I agree. But try getting a 20 something autistic person to use them. Or in my son’s case, about a dozen 20 something guys in addition to him. Facebook is not good for humanity overall. We see that. But if you are careful and picky you can avoid most of the awful. My son can’t have direct conversations about tough topics face to face unless we’re engaged in something else. Or through something else. His friends also have this issue, the ones on the spectrum. Facebook is also where my son told the world he is autistic and he received a ton of support and understanding. He’s learning to put social media into perspective, but it’s still important to him and his autistic friends.

Nor do I think they fear Iran. More likely, they see Iran as a competitor for regional power. Throw in some sectarianism and you’ve got a nice recipe for a regional rivalry.
The way we balance the equation is probably some combination of reducing global reliance on fossil fuels, normalizing relations with Iran (including, at some point, a trade deal), and generally promoting diplomatic solutions to problems instead of bombing the shit out of everything

Trump thinks he’s the smartest guy in the room and tells his idiot lawyers to sue and insist that this is all a scam and that he won. He doesn’t care about proof, legal standards, or federal rules of evidence or the federal rules of civil procedure.
So, we end up with his and GOP claims shot down on everything from failure to state a cause of action, dismissed with prejudice, and laches. They can’t properly identify a standard of review, and think they can wing basic issues. The Courts are slapping them down silly, and yet he thinks he’s the one who is being failed here.
Trump is a failure. His lawyers are failures for pushing this bulkshit. The GOP are failures for going all in on conspiracies instead of admitting they were defeated fair and square (well, we still overcame historic levels of voter suppression and GOP gerrymandering to defeat Trump, all while the GOP held on to the Senate for now and saw the House D advantage slightly shrink).
The GOP are a bunch of fragile snowflakes who peddle conspiracy theories to explain the world around them because reality is too harsh and complex for them to admit things like facts matter: that covid19 has wrecked the country, that it’s done tremendous harm to the economy, and that their obstruction has prolonged the damage and made it far more severe than it otherwise should be. I recently splurged, after election results, on a 33 dollar bottle of Hess Select Allomi that I found in Walmart. Damned good! Typically, I drink wine from a 4 bottle box. That may actually improve the occasional splurge wines, just because suddenly I’m drinking a wine with some character.

1. There is a good likelihood that the Jared meeting in Saudi has to do with Iran. Perhaps regarding what the Trump Administration is planning. The Saudis are geographically going to be stuck in the middle of whatever mess Trump creates in the area. They may be discussing the Saudi price for this.
2. One of the most dangerous military operations is the withdrawal in the face of an enemy. As a military force is withdrawn, it becomes weaker. And it becomes less and less able to defend itself.
a. The Trump Administration is proposing reducing the American military forces in regions that neighbor Iran (Iraq, Syria and Afghanistan) just as it ratchets up tensions.
b. Our allied NATO forces also have people operating in the region. Particularly in Afghanistan.
c. The Iranians have their own forces and allies operating in all three countries.
d. We had been operating in the region with Iranian acquiescence. (As well as Turkish, Israeli, Pakistani, and Saudi acquiescence.) That is likely over now. And Trump has already lost Turkish acquiescence.
3. The Israelis may also have an agenda that they realize needs to be carried out before Trump leaves office.
4. My understanding is that most of Trump’s political appointee National Security advisors have been strongly in favor of attacking Iran. The actual career folks who would have to carry it out in the Intelligence Agencies, DHS, and DoD, far less so.
This could get a lot of Americans, NATO folks, and local allies killed. To say nothing of Iranians. Plus the usual massive numbers of innocent civilians.

I doubt they love Trump. He’s a tool for them to expand their influence in the region. Once he no longer has value (12:01 pm est on January 20, 2021), they’ll let him hang.
Nor do I think they fear Iran. More likely, they see Iran as a competitor for regional power. Throw in some sectarianism and you’ve got a nice recipe for a regional rivalry.
The way we balance the equation is probably some combination of reducing global reliance on fossil fuels, normalizing relations with Iran (including, at some point, a trade deal), and generally promoting diplomatic solutions to problems instead of bombing the shit out of everything
KSA and the UAE are petrostate monarchies that keep themselves in power by generously subsidizing the comfort of their citizens…now looking at a future where their desert lands are going to get less habitable and the value of oil is dwindling. They’re desperate for anything to keep their countries together, and thus their own giant wealth-harvesting operations (and playground for personal abuse of power, and staging ground for ideological pecadillos inflicted on the bodies of others) intact. They always want the same thing: to stay on top.
Donald Trump operates in a mode that the KSA and UAE monarchs understand: a sort of mockery of the majliss system where petitioning the ruler directly is the norm and government institutions are based on social bonds. MBS and MBZ are both savvy enough individuals to also understand the power of branding and theater, and quietly all these individuals believe that part of power is no-rules destruction of one’s opponents; they dig each other’s war criminal instincts. Whether or not they personally like Trump, they understand the mode in which he operates. I suspect they’re similarly comfortable with Netanyahu.
As for what they’re trying to secure: well, the KSA has been very consistent in using the USA to advance it’s own agenda, their operating premise being “Americans are willing to fight communism, but are ultimately decadent and will fail to change the Islamic world” throughout the Cold War. We thought of them as Robin to our Batman; they thought of us as Blaster to their Master. They’ve spent almost a century trying to establish their monarchy as the center and arbiter of right-and-correct Islamic governance…and it’s mostly been a giant fucking disaster that helped spawned modern fundamentalist terrorism because the Saudis were all too happy to crush all liberal forms of Islam and fund most conservative forms…with a deeply cynical, self-serving edge wherein they want a world of Islamic monarchs where they are the kingmakers, and an “Islam” where monarchs don’t have to answer to too many religious authorities*…
*this being what makes them antagonists to most fundamentalists, who want to cast out monarchy in favor of caliphate, aka direct theocracy by mullah with the best credentials.
…so basically their priorities are (1) stay monarchs by keeping their people a minimal level of distracted and happy (the sinecures and foreign slave workers, plus the intense mall culture are all parts of this) ; (2) point fundamentalists away from them (3) use soft power (and proxies like Pakistani mercenaries, and terrorists, and sometimes the USA) to crush all agents within the Islamic world that propose an alternative organizing principle their monarchism. Genuine sectarian revulsion of Shia Iran is a distant (4).
Mind you, MBS is pulling some new shit —that fucking horror in Yemen being a great example of there being a new stylebook in place—but I’d say the tempo is different but the tune remains the same. What they want from Jared comes down to three things:

I am not familiar with Christian Theology. But doesn’t Revelations note that only 144,000 will be called to Heaven prior to the ‘Tribulation’?
Most interpretations read it as 144,000 chosen who will survive the Tribulation.

Ok, I went back. I guess I share your’s and Mueller, She Wrote’s careful and measured optimism. A couple of threads back I said that I really respect Chuck and I respect Mueller, but that up to now his podcasts had been to highlight honest officials who “took the oath,” let them tell their stories, and hope that it inspired trust in government again. But, that I didn’t see his podcast as the platform for breaking news.
It’s likely that at the hearing Mueller knew that there was no point in dropping bombshells, and he couldn’t talk about what was happening with on-going investigations, so I guess my baseline hope would be that Chuck walks Mueller through the process to expose Trump and Barr in what will likely be very measured ways if he does that. Fingers crossed.

For those who take that literally, they all believe they will be part of the 144,000.
For those who take the number metaphorically (to mean “a lot of people,”) they all believe they will be part of that lot.
Over the last four years we’ve been using the word combo “we now know” so much that I often forget the spelling of now and know and use them interchangeably.
