I doubt Trump would listen to such advice - he’s partly desperate to avoid facing serious possible criminal charges in the future, while also worried that if he starts issuing pardons left and right, it’ll look like his administration is staffed by a bunch of low-life crooks (which, of course, it is).

Bullshyte affidavits are not evidence, no matter how many times Christians lie and say they are.

The bulk of these affidavits amount to “I saw something I didn’t understand, thus I think there was fraud.” The rest are generally in the category of “hearsay,” with most following the tune of “Someone told me they saw/heard/read that this happened, thus there was fraud.”

No prosecutor worth his salt would waste his time going after any of these shitbirds because proving perjury would be virtually impossible. Meanwhile, the people who claim they actually saw “fraud” refuse to testify to such under oath and the “experts” largely just offer opinions rather than actual analysis.

I’m hoping they are demoralized by January 5. Just read a nice article on CNN about how key Asian American outreach has and will be in Georgia going forward. I’m really seeing some encouraging similarities between Georgia and Virginia 12 years ago.

No. Not every state had voter ID. IL didn’t until the 2018 election. I voted every year in IL until this last one.

I must be confused, because nothing has changed, and I haven’t missed an election. We sign a slip which is compared to our signature in their book, but I don’t have to have an ID. Of course, the little crossroads where I vote has only a couple hundred people, and everyone knows everyone else. So you walk in (even with a mask on!) and they say, “Hi, so and so!” But they do check the signature.

A letter to Gov. Pete Ricketts from 10 of the state’s top teachers is urging a statewide mask mandate.

The ten educators were named Teacher of the Year between 2007 and 2021.

According to the letter, the group—with more than 200 years of teaching experience—says a mandate would extend the safety precautions taken inside school buildings to the rest of the community on the outside.

The group says with cases of COVID-19 rising in Nebraska the governor’s leadership is on the line.

A surge in cases in recent weeks led Republican Gov. Pete Ricketts to reissue some statewide restrictions, including requiring masks in certain businesses like salons and tattoo parlors. But Ricketts has refused to impose a statewide mask mandate, arguing that mandates breed resentment and may face resistance.

Seventeen Nebraska cities have adopted their own mask mandates, including some of the state’s largest. That includes Omaha and many of its suburbs, Lincoln, Norfolk, Columbus, Hastings, Beatrice and Kearney. David City, with a population of 2,855, is the smallest Nebraska community to implement a mask mandate.

Trump, who for months has sowed unsubstantiated doubt about the integrity of mail-in votes, has also made baseless claims of widespread fraud in the presidential race in Georgia.

Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger and his staff have vehemently rebuffed those claims, stating unequivocally that there is no evidence of systemic errors or fraud in last month’s election. Yet Raffensperger and Gov. Brian Kemp, both Republicans who have been publicly lambasted by Trump, have joined the push to require a photo ID for absentee voting.

“Voters casting their ballots in person must show a photo ID, and we should consider applying that same standard to mail-in balloting,” Kemp said in remarks streamed live online.

(KNEP) - Local officials have been notified recently that the reality TV series, Street Outlaws, filmed in Scotts Bluff County in the months of August, September and October will begin airing in January. According to the executive producer of the show, the first of several episodes of the popular series will begin on Monday, January 11, 2021.

Production executives from the Los Angeles based company Pilgrim Media Group visited western Nebraska in early August after completing successful film production in Casper, Wyoming. The company was able to find several roadways in the area that met the criteria and the road scout checklist.

Georgia thought they had perfected voter disenfranchisement in advance of the election but the results revealed that there were still some flaws that allowed a Democrat to win the state, so they are fixing them. Again, they want the election to be processed properly — so the manipulation occurs before the votes are cast.

Yeah, no, that’s not how this works. There’s at least three reasons for why the identity of experts are made known to both opposing counsel and the court:

1. So that the expert’s credentials can be verified, else they’re just another random citizen offering their opinion to the court.

2. If they lack the proper credentials, it allows opposing counsel to challenge their testimony.

3. If their credentials are legit, it allows opposing counsel to challenge their credibility as an expert witness by investigating their past history and (if applicable) prior testimony in other trials.

It really appears that the only thing that leads to a change in GOP behavior is to lose a loved one to the disease, especially if they were responsible for the infection. The vaccinations will eventually eliminate this dilemma.

Senator Erdman is my state senator. I’d really like to see him gone from office.

In July 2020, during the Covid-19 Pandemic, Steve Erdman gave a speech in Nebraska Legislature in which he told he urged people not to wear masks, championed the unproven treatment of using hydroxychloroquine to combat the virus, and said a vaccine would be ineffective against the virus, which could only be beaten through herd immunity. Erdman’s speech was condemned by both Democrats and Republicans in the Legislature

You’re right. Military personnel and retirees don’t get paid. CHAMPUS/Tricare goes unfunded and dependents and retirees no longer have health insurance (Tricare is about 8% of the military budget).

Two cases of “someone at Thanksgiving had Covid” have popped up in my life. My wife’s chiro cancelled her appointment due to self isolating for two weeks, and a work colleagues Dad had it at Thanksgiving dinner.
Everyone was told to not to do Thanksgiving in person. There is light at the end of the tunnel but they refused to be patient.

Leaving the DoD unfunded…just three weeks before Christmas…while the clock also ticks down on the federal budget. And there’s no chance of a Covid relief bill before year’s end.

Well, Jenna Ellis was a practicing attorney, an assistant county attorney in Weld County, Colorado, prosecuting petty crimes.

She also worked for James Dobson’s “Focus on the Family” in Colorado Springs, doesn’t that count for something?

She also got fired from several private firms.

“I find it astonishing that she’s gotten to this point,” said Stephanie Stout, a lawyer in private practice in Greeley, Colo., who worked with Ms. Ellis a few years ago defending a man who was accused of attempted murder. The partnership was short-lived, Ms. Stout said, because their client fired Ms. Ellis, deeming her not up to the job.

“She just didn’t have the legal chops,” added Ms. Stout, who ultimately won the case on her own. “After that, Jenna decided that I had stolen the case from her.”

She does make a good conservative though, blaming others for her failure.

I heard a short discussion of the role of the VP in the senate on the Thom Hartmann show. His noted that the iron hand Mitch McConnel wields on allowing debate and voting in the Senate is not a Constitutional power. Kamala Harris, as the president of the Senate, could preside and allow debate and voting. He hoped Kamala would flex her constitutional muscle.
I didn’t catch the whole discussion, but it struck me, why is one senator able to block the functioning of all Congress?

Article One, Section Three of the United States Constitution provides that the vice president of the United States is the president of the Senate (despite not being a senator), and mandates that the Senate must choose a president pro tempore to act in the vice president’s absence. I would guess that too, just based on a simple model of whoever kisses Trump’s ass is who Trump likes. I think he will show up at the GA rally this weekend, because he gets to stand in front of people kissing his ass and he gets to ramble on about his grievances again.

Stumping for Loeffler and Perdue is likely to be minimal or nonexistent, because he doesn’t care about the GOP past their ability to kiss his ass and fix his problems. They’ve been trying to kiss his ass, but the Lin Wood faction is kissing his ass more, so he’s like a ball in a roulette wheel. I think it’s unlikely that the yam actually pisses on the GA senators, unless the crowd goads him into it because crazy.

People complicate their analyses of Trump’s behavior because they start assuming that Trump actually cares about anything beyond winning, avoiding shame, and getting his ass kissed.

The Navy is resurrecting the 1st Fleet, a spokesman for the Navy secretary confirmed Thursday, days after the service’s top civilian leader called for a U.S. counterweight to rapidly growing Chinese military might in the Indo-Pacific region.

The “administrative requirements” to recommission the 1st Fleet “are in the final stages of coordination,” Capt. Jereal Dorsey, a spokesman for Navy Secretary Kenneth Braithwaite, said in an email to Stars and Stripes.

Braithwaite is working with Acting Secretary of Defense Christopher Miller, Congress, Joint Chiefs Chairman Gen. Mark Milley, Chief of Naval Operations Adm. Mike Gilday, Marine Corps Commandant Gen David Berger and other stakeholders on ensuring the Navy maintains its maritime dominance in an era of great power competition, Dorsey said.

The Navy secretary signaled U.S. intentions during a speech Nov. 17 at the Naval Submarine League’s annual symposium.

The choices of home ports for the 1st Fleet are areas close to the Indian Ocean. China is already building naval bases in Pakistan and Djibouti.

The choices seem to be Singapore, with its disadvantage of heavy maritime traffic in the Straits of Malacca and in range of Chinese land-based missiles but advantage that their harbour can already accommodate US aircraft carriers, Western Australia (where the government there is already upgrading naval facilities and shore support), or Darwin, Australia (which would require dredging the harbour, but would be a boon to the local economy).

In short, Donald Trump wants to fuque military personnel and dependents with a rusty unsharpened cactus if he doesn’t get his way on not renaming bases currently named after traitors (Confederates), and the ability to sue Twitter over the trending hashtag #DiaperDon .

It has passed Congress for 59 consecutive years, an imposing streak in an increasingly politically fractured legislature. Both Republican and Democratic leaders in recent days have chastised Trump for the veto threats, calling them an attack on force readiness and military members.

The Bangladesh government has begun sending some Rohingya refugees to the controversial Bhasan Char island, despite calls from human rights groups to halt the process.

Seven Bangladeshi navy and army vessels carrying more than 1,600 Rohingya refugees from Cox’s Bazar refugee camps arrived Bhasan Char on Friday afternoon. Two other boats carried food and other provisions for the refugees who are moving to the island Friday.

A government official who did not want to be identified told VOA that several thousand more refugees are in the process to be relocated to Bhasan Char within coming days.

“We hope to succeed to relocate around 2,500 refugees to Bhasan Char in this phase. We are sure several thousand refugees will finally move to Bhasan Char in the coming weeks or months,” the official said.

Foreign Minister A.K. Abdul Momen, said Thursday that no refugee is being coerced to move to Bhasan Char.

“Only those refugees who have voluntarily agreed to move to Bhasan Char are being relocated to the island. In heavily congested Cox’s Bazar refugee camps they face many hardships. They will certainly find life more comfortable in Bhasan Char,” he said.

Now, things may be about to get much easier. On November 30th researchers from DeepMind, an artificial-intelligence (AI) laboratory owned by Alphabet, Google’s parent company, presented results suggesting that they have made enormous progress on one of biology’s grandest challenges—how to use a computer to predict a protein’s shape from just a list of its amino-acid components.

To non-biologists, this may sound somewhere between arcane and prosaic. In fact, it is a big achievement. Replacing months of experiments with a few hours of computing time could shed new light on the inner workings of cells. It could speed up drug development. And it could in particular suggest treatments for diseases like Alzheimer’s, in which misshapen proteins are thought to play a role.

But there is yet more to it than that. Until now, the machine-learning techniques which DeepMind’s team used to attack the protein-folding problem have been best known for powering things like face-recognition cameras and voice assistants, and for defeating human beings at tricky games like Go. But Demis Hassabis, DeepMind’s boss, who founded in 2010 what was then an independent firm, did so hoping that they could also be employed to accelerate the progress of science. This result demonstrates how that might work in practice.

I never watched the original The Evil Dead series of movies that propelled him to stardom, but I did watch the somewhat underrated series Burn Notice, in which he played the semi-retired mercenary best friend to the main character. I’ve heard of the film you named and that it was quite good, but have not seen it.

Roger Ebert summed it up pretty well regarding Bruce Campbell’s performance:

You never catch Campbell or Davis winking at the audience or patronizing the material. They approach their characters with all the curiosity and respect they’d deserve in a serious film. Campbell sounds uncannily like Elvis might sound by now, and looks more like Elvis than anyone else I’ve seen in the role.

A weird little film, to be sure - but one worth checking out.

State news from last night:

Papillion has joined many of its peer cities by enacting a mask mandate to curb the spread of the coronavirus.

The City Council voted 7-1 on Thursday to approve the measure, a Papillion spokesman said. Councilman Steve Sunde voted against it.

Papillion is a suburb of Omaha. The vote was delayed because of a defeat in waiving the third reading of the ordinance.

The mask mandate begins Saturday and will not expire until the percentage of statewide hospital beds occupied by COVID-19 patients drops below 20% on a 14-day rolling average. That figure would be a drop below the yellow designation on the state’s COVID-19 dashboard.

The last time Nebraska was below that level was Oct. 30, according to the dashboard.

Papillion City Council passes mask mandate (Omaha World-Herald)

By prohibiting public health districts from imposing a mask mandate, Gov. Pete Ricketts is forcing cities and villages to do it, resulting in a piecemeal approach. Cities and villages can only pass a mandate if the municipality has a health board, thus Scottsbluff with its Dumpster fire of cases cannot, as the creation of a health board was defeated in that city.

CHEYENNE - Wyoming first lady Jennie Gordon received results Thursday of a COVID-19 test that showed she is positive for the virus.

Gov. Mark Gordon tested positive on Nov. 25. They have been in quarantine together since Nov. 20.

The first lady is only experiencing minor symptoms at this time, according to a news release from the governor’s office. Gov. Gordon has recovered and is nearly symptom free.

He’s doing his damnedest, but when we’re bordered by wingnuts as well (some of them shared with yours, as South Dakota is on our southwestern border), and so much of your state’s life and business intersects with said wingnuts (Wisconsin’s parasitic relationship with us), our own safety measures can only get us so far. Cases are leveling off here right now, at least, instead of continuing to accelerate.

Back in the Nineties, crossing the border into Gibraltar only took me a few minutes.

Getting out again was another story. Spain made it as difficult as possible, you could wait an hour or two to cross the border.

When I went to Michigan on emergency leave for my great-grandmother’s funeral, I left via MAC flight from Rota, and returned three weeks later via commercial flight to Gibraltar. My ex-wife parked my car in La Linea de la Concepción so I wouldn’t have to wait a couple hours crossing the border from the airport; I just walked a couple blocks and got in my beater Citroën GS and drove home.

Well, strictly it was a GSA model (1979 model, a hatchback). It had Barcelona plates and looked like it had been rolled down several mountainsides.

When I bought it from another person in Rota who was leaving, the car was dead. (She sold it to me for $75.)

With the help of several people and the promise of beer, we hauled it to the dealership, where I told them “fix it” (and install rear seatbelts).

After that, I never had trouble with the car. My ex- and I drove it on a trip from Rota to Paris (I figured if it broke, it would be much easier to get it repaired than my Nissan Sentra, since Nissan in Spain only sold trucks). I sold it when I left for $2,000.

The affidavits are being presented as supporting evidence in their lawsuits, actually. They can be charged with perjury, I think, if they can be proven to be lying instead of just misinformed or stupid; otherwise, the judges haven’t even been getting to the affidavits because the lawsuits have all been failing on procedural matters before even getting to the so-called “evidence”.

1992: Citroën GSA (used 1979, I have no idea how many kilometres but it was a bunch, sold 1995)
When I married my wife in 2007, she already had a car (a Hyundai which she’d bought new, traded for our Smart)
2012: Smart Pure Coupe (2013 model, currently has 88,000 miles on it).

When I sold my Vega, it still ran fine. The only major maintenance it had was an automatic transmission overhaul a couple years before.

About a month after I sold it, apparently the guy who bought it was criming in Dade City, Florida and tried to outrun a Pasco County sheriff’s deputy and blew up the engine.

A Vega doesn’t really make a good getaway car.

Car talk:

I’ve owned only a handful of cars. My folks let me drive the worst car ever made:

Eagle Premier. The thing was a disaster.

They had a Mazda 626. That was my all time favorite car. It was nimble and fast to drive. Engine was great but the transmission sucked. We blew out a couple of transmissions; I think it was because the engine was too powerful for the transmission and it would blow gaskets/seals and strip the tranny on a regular basis.

I’ve since bought and owned a Toyota Corolla, which is reliable and unremarkable. I’ve also bought a Honda Accord EX V6. That was my second favorite car. It was a dream to drive - it had power…. unlimited power. But then it developed electrical issues and ended up getting a Subaru Outback, which is a vehicle with a very particular set of skills. It’s not flashy or overly strong on HP, but it gets the job done. It’s actually got better gas mileage than the Corolla at this point, which is remarkable.

But my favorite car to have driven was a rental Ford Mustang. Got that out in Arizona once, and we were driving around and my wife was like you’re not going too fast. I told her we were doing 75 on an on ramp to the interstate. She quieted down… and then said this is her dream car.

The car had never been driven (it only had about 20 miles on the odometer). For some reason, after the guy bought it, he parked it and never drove it again.

My brother-in-law took it to the local Ford dealership to have the car completely checked over, seals and gaskets replaced, &c. He now proudly drives that.

I’ve only owned a few cars. My first was given to me by my dad, a 1991 Chevrolet K1500 half-ton pickup. That thing was nigh bulletproof and had somewhere north of 225k miles when it was destroyed in a violent 4-car accident involving a fully laden dump truck from a local stone quarry. Its replacement was an unremarkable 1994 version of the same model, which is the vehicle I owned when I moved from Indiana to Minnesota following my college graduation. Its ultimate fate was to burn up the transmission and get sold to a dealer who could fix it on the cheap and resell it.

After that, I had just moved into my house and didn’t have any money, so my father-in-law helped me fix up his beat-up, rusty, but still viable and functional 1984 Volkswagen Rabbit. That little diesel car was a true delight, even if it was 0-60 in 60 seconds. I loved that thing to death - almost literally, as the rear axle separated from the frame on my way to work one day. I managed to get it home in one piece, then sold it to someone who was going to pull the engine and other parts out of it.

Then came the first car I actually bought, which wound up being a 2010 Chevy Malibu. It was nice enough for a sedan, though I did have to replace the transmission due to a known defect. Shortly after that, Mrs. Fish wrecked it in a spectacular single-car incident wherein she flipped it end-over-end multiple times. That’s why I continue the loyalty to Chevy that I inherited from my dad; Chevy cars and trucks have saved both my life and hers now.

My current daily driver is a 2015 Chevy Sonic. It’s a pleasant little beast, though it has some annoying electronic glitches.

Mrs. Fish has had 3 cars: A Dodge Dakota that had a modified exhaust and custom rims, which she bought herself as a teenager and we sold when we were new homeowners and desperate for cash; a 1997 Lincoln Town Car, again from Mrs. Fish’s parents, which became our family car and was donated to a local church when the brake lines blew with all three of my family in it; and her current vehicle, a GMC Terrain. She is also the titled owner of the 1979 Lincoln, though we kind of share custody on that girl because I’m the one that does all the work on her.

Two of (many) things that struck me about the movie: 1) Wow, that end sequence (before the weird hotel room) must have seemed incredibly trippy to audiences in 1968 and Kubrick or not, (thinking like a movie exec) “that shit is too long and will not fly in today’s world of jump cuts.” 2) Women barely exist in the movie and after a certain point in the movie (where Floyd meets a couple of women), there are no women whatsoever. It’s all men.

The “Time-Warping Stargate” sequence is one I usually fast-forward through when I’m watching it at home - frankly, for me, it’s overlong. That’s my only critique of the film. The rest is a masterpiece.

I had a chance to see it a local cinema on the occasion of that cinema’s reopening after a two-year reconstruction. I dragged a friend along to see it (she heard of it, but never seen it before) and to my surprise, it was just me, her and some guy two rows ahead of us. That was it. Three people in the entire cinema. And on the big screen and surround sound.

The best way to experience 2001: A Space Odyssey.

I must be confused, because nothing has changed, and I haven’t missed an election. We sign a slip which is compared to our signature in their book, but I don’t have to have an ID. Of course, the little crossroads where I vote has only a couple hundred people, and everyone knows everyone else. So you walk in (even with a mask on!) and they say, “Hi, so and so!” But they do check the signature.

Originally, I was from Chicago proper, then northern IL, the northern most part of Chicagoland. We barely know our neighbors, let alone everyone anyone else. 😁

In 2016 (maybe 2012, I don’t recall, TBH), I walked into the courthouse to vote. I pulled out my ID and was told it wasn’t needed. They checked my name and address (that I verbally gave them) and I voted.

This has the very real potential to go south very, very quickly. When I sold my Vega, it still ran fine. The only major maintenance it had was an automatic transmission overhaul a couple years before.

About a month after I sold it, apparently the guy who bought it was criming in Dade City, Florida and tried to outrun a Pasco County sheriff’s deputy and blew up the engine.

A Vega doesn’t really make a good getaway car.

I had a Vega. It could not get over 60 mph if you pushed it off a cliff.

Put plainly, even if millions of doses of vaccine were distributed and millions of people started getting vaccines tomorrow, it would take months before we could return to an actual state of normalcy.

According to the NYT, someone with my age/risk factors would be among the last in line to get a vaccine, so I’m at the tail of a very long chain. I’m behind like 99% of other people in NJ. I can WFH and social distance and mask. It’d be weird to return to eating at restaurants or going to the mall or anywhere else for that matter.

But you know people will throw caution to the wind and ignore the masking/social distancing thinking that the vaccine will save everyone the trouble of wearing a mask for a bit longer.

Yeah, English happened to be my minor. I really think the rush to embrace STEM unfortunately left the importance of understanding the humanities behind. I also blame standardized testing for forcing teachers to rush the teaching and understanding of history. If I could be said to specialized in a certain time period of history with my major, it’s in what’s called modernity (post 18th century through the end of the 20th), an era defined by the forces of the Enlightenment and Industrial Revolution.

I was always careful to do the maintenance on the car as the manual said, and I didn’t drive it at excessive speeds (though I did drive it on long trips, especially from Virginia Beach or Memphis to Michigan, Florida, or Ontario).

My favorite car ever was a 1990 Pontiac Grand Prix V6 which I bought on the GM employee plan. You just touched the gas pedal and that thing took off like a rocket. It had an orange console that looked like an airplane cockpit. I was so disappointed when GM discontinued the entire Pontiac line.

Second favorite car: the Lincoln MKC that I drive now. So quiet, and also the best pickup on any vehicle I have owned since the Grand Prix. I was driving it at 87 on the I-94 (we were going to Canada) and got stopped by a Michigan State Trooper. He was shocked to see a little old lady behind the wheel. I apologized, said I didn’t even notice how fast I was going, I am just enjoying my new car.

He did not give me a ticket, just said drive carefully & use cruise control on the freeway.

My favorite car was my 1985 IROC Camaro. Unfortunately, it was other people’s favorite too (not the car so much as the chrome reverse wheels that had high street value.) It was stolen once out of a parking garage in Indianapolis and left on blocks, sans wheels, downtown. Then, during a wicked ice storm, it was stripped in my apartment parking lot and left up on blocks. I finally gave up the ghost and got a car nobody would want to steal—a 1988 Beretta.

I’m looking forward to the DSCC (and DCCC) post-mortems on what went wrong in the downticket races. From afar, Gideon seemed to me to have been a pretty solid candidate running a decent campaign against what should have been the weakest incumbent the GOP had on offer (aside from McSally and Gardner), and yet she got whomped.

I understand how some of the other insurgent Senate candidates lost - I was never a fan of McGrath in Kentucky (who tried too hard to play Republican-lite), and I knew Hegar was a long shot in Texas. And don’t get me started on Cal Cunningham, who should be exiled from politics for life after screwing up a nearly sure thing in NC.

But Harrison in SC? Boillier in Kansas? Bullock in MT? We should have captured at least a few of those tossup races, and we got all but swept. I’m still hopeful that the GA runoffs will go our way - but if not for Georgia’s runoff system, let’s not forget we’d have lost those seats, too. (Assuming that in the absence of a runoff, there’d have been primaries, that Loeffler would have defeated Collins in a GOP primary, and that the votes that went to both Loeffler and Collins in the runoff would have coalesced behind Loeffler on election day to defeat Warnock.)

Perhaps this was just the year that the presidential race was going to suck every molecule of oxygen out of the room. Perhaps the downticket races were the ones that suffered from Democrats being responsible and not holding in-person campaign events. Like I said… I want to see the post-mortems.

But in the meantime, I have no beef with Sara Gideon.

The “Time-Warping Stargate” sequence is one I usually fast-forward through when I’m watching it at home - frankly, for me, it’s overlong. That’s my only critique of the film. The rest is a masterpiece.

I had a chance to see it a local cinema on the occasion of that cinema’s reopening after a two-year reconstruction. I dragged a friend along to see it (she heard of it, but never seen it before) and to my surprise, it was just me, her and some guy two rows ahead of us. That was it. Three people in the entire cinema. And on the big screen and surround sound.

The best way to experience 2001: A Space Odyssey.

I apparently was taken by the parents to see that in 1969 along with my other siblings. I was 5. And I have absolutely no memory of it whatsoever.

Have seen it since then and for its time it should be rightly considered a masterpiece. I concur that the “stargate” scene is overlong and trippy. The parts after that are sort of “what the hell?” though having read Clarke’s novelization those parts make a lot more sense in what it is trying to portray.

As for lack of women in it. Once you jump out to the Discovery it’s just a few astronauts as actors. Last female you see is the one video call he has with his wife and daughter.

Public education has been going downhill ever since we started viewing it as another expense to be minimized and streamlined and boiled down to preparing for standardized testing.

That is all catching up with us. Like when the British government asked Neflix to put a warning on The Crown to indicate that it is fiction.

Whatever happened to teaching students the distinction between history, documentary, historical fiction, literary fiction and fantasy?

In our modern world, they all overlap in our minds.

Those lines are already quite blurred since a lot of written “history” is already a mix of the latter types. An author is often working from narratives, previous documents, etc. that contradict each other in terms of times, places, decisions made and what actually happened. If it’s about a conflict than you might also have documents, etc. from the opposing side with their viewpoint of the situation. (And those might suffer from translation issues.)

Just for an example look at the changing narrative about what happened on June 4, 1942 during the Battle of Midway.

I think so too unfortunately. And I thought defund was dumb in the summer. The goal is reform and correct the problems with law enforcement. My problem with the current and present state of militarized police departments is that it’s not just wrong but it’s a bad use of manpower and resources that could be used to be going after violent crime like sexual assault and murdeer.

I don’t trust the figures at all, particularly since the 2016 figures were all out of whack with what eventually came out.

Also, I think the “defund the police” controversy is a Republican framing of the issue. Democratic candidates failed to cast themselves as a moderate alternative to defund the police (a MLK position vs. a Malcolm X position). There’s a widespread notion that policing has gotten out of hand, but making it a binary of “defund” vs. “crackdown/get them in line” is a weakness not on the progressive end, but on the liberal/moderate end.

On live TV, anchors, journalists etc routinely misspeak — say Trump when they mean Biden etc. But this is a written document that someone should have read carefully before submitting it to a court— such errors are inexcusable in that context. It’s not as though it was a simple typo of “teh” rather than “the”.
