LYRICS:

I’m not easy to know, my mind can change
My moods come and go
I’m not easy to please, sometimes the woods
Get lost in the trees

Seems like a long time
Nothing much rang true

But I feel like something could happen
I feel like something could happen with you
Hmm hmm

I drive into town, I walk the mall
Go home and fall down
I’ve lost a few good friends
It’s easy come, easy come again

Sometimes I’m surprised
By the things I do

But I feel like something could happen
I feel like something could happen with you
Hmm hmm

[Instrumental Bridge]

I need to find some space where I can go
Get out of myself
I’m sure of who I am unless I feel
Like somebody else

Seems like a long time
I was torn in two

But I feel like something could happen
I feel like something could happen with you
Hmm hmm
Yeah, I feel like something could happen
I feel like something could happen with you
Hmm hmm

WTHF? My “centered” Republican rep signed that! He is going to get a letter from me!!!!

There is no such thing as a centrist Republican, other than claims by the villagers in the Beltway Press (who are busy trying to paint Ben Sasse as a centrist today).

Amazingly, my wingnut Representative Adrian Smith (R-NE3) didn’t sign it. However, Jeff Fortenberry (R-NE1) did.

It’s a real shame the now deceased new Republican Speaker of the New Hampshire House exposed roughly two hundred Republicans to Covid-19 last week in a super-spreader event. I hope the Democrats there stayed out of their way.

That ‘expert’ for the Texas lawsuit that is lying about probabilities should be flogged for that.

1) Votes are not random events, therefor probability is not applicable.

2) Even if they were random events, they are not independent. In particular, the Red Mirage was deliberately created by GOP state legislatures delaying the count of mail-in ballots.

Following up on the photo printing query from last night, I set up an account with Shutterfly. I ordered a handfull of 5x7 test prints and took advantage of a sign up special for their 8x10 “art print” on cardstock. They should arrive between the 17th & the 22nd (economy shipping :) and I’ll see how they look. I’m especially curious about the “art print” quality. If it is usable, that may be a way to get started with the print selling.

Miracle Whip was a staple in my house growing up. My mom made “angeled eggs” that were the Miracle Whip analogue of deviled eggs. My mother-in-law tries to mix both mayo and Miracle Whip when making her eggs, thinking this is some kind of compromise that I would enjoy… no, Mom, just no. Pick one, either one, I like both.

My mother used Miracle Whip and meh, it’s still not something I care for. My ex hated MW but would cut the Mayo with plain Yogurt and that was something I liked better than straight MW or Mayo.

The streak of sixties and seventies has ended. Snow tonight and tomorrow, though low in quantity.

It’s been a weird Autumn, with the first snowstorm of the season near the end of Summer, then really hot days even in December.

Slooooowwwwwwly our area is becoming a bit more liberal.

After the Republican mayor of Scottsbluff was defeated for his council seat in November, three Democrats were elected to the city council.

A bid to replace the old mayor with another Republican was defeated. One of the new Democrats was put forward, and she won the position 5-0.

She was elected mayor on her birthday.

Everett Patterson:

“…I have a small hope that this Christmas image will come to mind when we see other “down and out” people huddling outside of gas stations, reminding us that our Savior’s parents (and indeed, Jesus himself) were at one time similarly troubled.”

And here we are in 2020.

The main goal of this illustration was to pack as many clever biblical references into the scene as possible. I won’t list every one (there are at least a dozen), but a few that I’m proudest of are: the verse from the prophet Ezekiel in the graffiti on the phone kiosk, the way the “Save More!” behind Mary’s head looks kinda like “Ave Maria!,” and the two ads for “Glad” and “Tide” on the newspaper (get it?).

Purely American pop rock in a way that no one did better. RIP

It’s possible to do many things in Switzerland, Vanessa, but whether they’re TOTES legal is another matter. You can certainly buy just one guinea pig - it’s not as if they come in multipacks - but “guinea pigs are very social animals and may not be kept on their own”, the Federal Food Safety and Veterinary Office confirms.

I’ve been learning a bunch of his songs lately. They rhythm parts are relatively simple, but it’s almost maddening how well crafted they are. The one songwriter that leaps to mind who is similar is John Fogerty.

Plus, I’d almost kill to have one tenth the ability of Mike Campbell.

Paul Westerberg too, and Petty lifted some lyrics from the brief time they toured together. I always put that into the great minds steal category.

I just recorded this one for funsies.

Heartbreakers are pretty much my favorite band. Every one of them know how to play to exactly what the song needs.

I’m hearing that there may be a Petty tribute tour in the works, with The Heartbreakers and guests, when touring is possible again.

This person is asking what the controversy is. Perhaps one of the Twitterati can give him this link to NBC News.

Bernard’s attorneys on Wednesday asked a federal appeals court to temporarily halt his execution while they pursued claims that the prosecution at his trial unconstitutionally withheld evidence that would have led jurors to give him a life sentence. Five jurors have since come forward to attest that they no longer support the death penalty in the case, while a former prosecutor who challenged Bernard’s appeal of his death verdict now says she doesn’t believe he should be put to death, in part, because he was a teenage offender and has become a model prisoner.

Well, we’ve lost over 6,000 in the last two days.

Obviously, someone needs to pay the piper. Who’s it gonna be this time?

Hopefully, not the same people who paid for the last war. That was US. Maybe we should take that money and spend it in our country to do some good rather than fucking up someone else’e life.

South Dakota state senator (R-Rapid City)

UPDATE: Sen. Duhamel hospitalized overnight with COVID-19; receives investigational drug treatment at Monument Health (Rapid City Journal, eleven minutes ago)

Sen. Helene Duhamel was hospitalized at Monument Health on Wednesday night as her oxygen levels dropped, but is preparing to go home after receiving an investigational treatment for COVID-19: an infusion of casirivimab and imdevimab.

Duhamel was in Pierre on Tuesday for Gov. Kristi Noem’s budget address at the state capitol. She wore her mask throughout the day but was pictured maskless in a photo posted to Noem’s campaign Twitter account and attended a dinner at the Governor’s mansion in Pierre on Monday evening with other legislative leaders and select members of Noem’s cabinet.

“I certainly hope I did not unknowingly infect anyone,” Duhamel said Thursday in an email to the Journal.

The Republican senator from Rapid City said she worked for a couple hours Tuesday after returning from Pierre at the Pennington County Sheriff’s Office, where she is the spokeswoman. Duhamel said she began to feel tired and then had a headache, so she went home.

Gordon supportsTexas lawsuit over election process, but Wyoming won’t join case for now

(Cheyenne Wyoming Tribune-Eagle)

CHEYENNE - Gov. Mark Gordon issued a statement Thursday in support of a lawsuit filed by Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton against four battleground states over their election processes, but he said Wyoming will wait to see if the Supreme Court grants an initial motion in the case before taking any action.

“I strongly support the Supreme Court hearing the constitutional issue of the Electors Clause raised by Texas in their petition,” Gordon said in a statement Thursday afternoon. “President Trump has the right to bring electoral issues for resolution in the U.S. judicial system. I, along with Wyoming voters, overwhelmingly supported President Trump through our electoral process.”Gordon supportsTexas lawsuit over election process, but Wyoming won’t join case for now.

Governor Gordon is even a bigger weenie than most of the Republican governors in this. He’ll wait to see if Texas can get their case heard before he makes a decision, so he can fuque that chicken straddle the fence a bit longer.

Biden and Harris win Time’s “Person of the Year”

President-elect Joe Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris won TIME magazine’s “Person of the Year” award for 2020, Bruce Springsteen announced on Thursday.

“Biden had the vision, set the tone and topped the ticket. But he also recognized what he could not offer on his own, what a 78-year-old white man could never provide: generational change, a fresh perspective, and an embodiment of America’s diversity. For that, he needed Kamala Harris: California Senator, former district attorney and state attorney general, a biracial child of immigrants whose charisma and tough questioning of Drumpf Administration officials electrified millions of Democrats. The Vice President has never before been a woman, or Black, or Asian American,” Charlotte Alter wrote for the magazine.

The state treasurer of Kansas was a Republican. They are howling that the Democratic governor is replacing the state treasurer with her lieutenant governor, a Democrat.

Gov. Laura Kelly announced Thursday she would appoint her lieutenant governor, Lynn Rogers, to fill the state treasurer vacancy, pointing to his financial background and record in two years of serving as her second-in-command.

Rogers will replace current Treasurer Jake LaTurner in January, when LaTurner is sworn in to represent the 2nd Congressional District.

The treasurer’s post has often been a springboard for those interested in higher office. Joan Finney parlayed her work as treasurer into a successful run for governor in the 1990s, while LaTurner, Lynn Jenkins and Ron Estes all moved on to Congress from the job.

The position is charged with managing the state’s finances but also involves running a number of highly visible programs, including the state’s 529 college savings plan.

Before joining Kelly’s ticket in 2018, Rogers was a state senator from Wichita for one term. He had previously worked for Citibank in Chicago before moving to Kansas and working in agricultural finance before getting involved in politics.

Betsy DeVos continuing to sabotage public education, even on her way out:

It’s now official. Unless Congress pushes back on Secretary DeVos’s request—which seems unlikely—the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) tests of fourth and eighth grade reading and math that were scheduled for 2021 will be deferred at least a year. That means this vital source of data on student achievement won’t tell us anything between spring ‘19 and autumn ‘22, when we can reasonably expect the next results to appear. This means, in effect, that NAEP is AWOL for the pandemic and its school shutdowns, turning a blind eye to the learning losses that they’re causing.

This also means that state testing in spring 2021 is now more important than ever—and that President Biden’s education secretary should resist all demands for another round of waivers from ESSA’s requirement that all students in grades three through eight should be assessed annually in reading and math. Absent such data, we’ll see both a collapse, perhaps permanently, of results-based school accountability and—more immediately—an appalling dearth of information about who is and isn’t learning what during these challenging times for K-12 education. (Test scores like those released this week from NWEA are welcome, but as that organization itself acknowledges, they aren’t nationally representative, especially given how many students—most of them Black, Brown, and poor—are missing from the data set.)
