Washington Post Editorial Board Calls for Trump to Be Removed From Office via 25th Amendment

Politics • Views: 23,636

It took them until two weeks before the end of his presidency, but apparently storming the Capitol building was the Washington Post’s red line: Trump caused the assault on the Capitol. He must be removed.

PRESIDENT TRUMP’S refusal to accept his election defeat and his relentless incitement of his supporters led Wednesday to the unthinkable: an assault on the U.S. Capitol by a violent mob that overwhelmed police and drove Congress from its chambers as it was debating the counting of electoral votes. Responsibility for this act of sedition lies squarely with the president, who has shown that his continued tenure in office poses a grave threat to U.S. democracy. He should be removed.

However, please note:

No.

Not acceptable, but here’s why:

25th leaves him eligible to serve again in theory.

If ever there was a question about Donald J. Trump going down into the history books as the worst President in United States history, today put all those questions to rest. There will never be a worse President - the only way it could get worse is if someone takes the Presidency by actual force, and then they would not be a President, but an actual dictator.

There was an official announcement about the security response, and it put pence in the decision-making process. People were asking why it didn’t include trump.

But I wonder how pence has any authority to decide anything? I thought that was the whole thing about the VP office — it does absolutely nothing.

Germany was having trouble; what a sad, sad story.
We need our new leader to restore its former glory.
Where, oh where was he?
Where could that man be?
We looked around, and then we found the man for you and me!
And now it’s
Springtime for Hitler and Germany
Deutschland is happy and gay
We’re marching to a faster pace.
Look out! Here comes the master race!
Springtime for Hitler and Germany,
Winter for Poland and France.
Springtime for Hitler and Germany,
Come on Germans! Go into your dance!
I was born in Dusseldorf and that is why they call me Rolfe.
Don’t be stupid, be a smarty! Come and join the Nazi Party!
Springtime for Hitler and Germany!…

Yeah. The problem is that Trump can just day “I’m ok” and he can stay.

It’s more complicated than that. He can say, “I’m OK”, and if the VP and Cabinet let that stand, he can stay. If they submit another declaration, then it goes to Congress, who have 21 days to debate the issue and approve by 2/3 majority IN BOTH HOUSES. Now, the way I see it, the Cabinet could use this to run out the clock to January 20, but they would have to have the cooperation of the Republicans in the Senate, or else they could just immediately force a floor vote and get Trump back in the Oval Office as soon as the 4-day period expires.

Time to take the ultimate red pill and recall what happened the last time a nationalist uprising posed a legitimate threat to the globalist status quo, and now realize that we will all go down in history the same way as they did if we lose.

Every piece of media you consume about contemporary events has been manipulated by globalists to shape your opinion. The same thing has been done to our history books.

Here’s a good article debunking all that bad-faith, butt-covering bilge: No, antifa did not invade the Capitol today, despite what Trump supporters say

Soon after that though, a photo spread on Twitter showing Angeli at a Black Lives Matter protest earlier this year. This was proof enough for conservatives that Angeli must be an antifa infiltrator and not a real Trump supporter.

The photo and the caption are accurate, Angeli was indeed at a BLM protest. However, the photo is manipulated to crop out his QAnon sign. Angeli was photographed at a BLM protest…because he was there as a pro-Trump counter-protestor.

So projection as always with these creeps - they’re accusing antifa of what they themselves do.

Considering how genuinely upset Romney seems to be at this whole debacle, and how Romney knows just how much Hawley and his bullshittery contributed to today’s events, I’m pretty sure he does. I can almost hear him praying silently for just ONE chance to get a room alone with that little prick…

At this point, I think you could literally argue that refusal to convict is treason.

And sitting senators are not immune to prosecution by DoJ.

re: #112 thecommodore

It’s even harder to remove a POTUS via the 25th, than impeachment. Especially if you want to remove him forever.

If they can get him to resign the 25th amendment section 3 comes into play.

I’d be willing to drop the charges on all crimes he’s committed in just 2021if he’d put his John Hancock on that. There’s still a thousand things he can be prosecuted over that will put him away basically forever even if we trade taking crimes of the past few weeks off the table.

TheDonald . win is gonna be shut down. Tho there are mirrors.

No - mods are not compromised.

Mods are continuing to fight against… well, who aren’t we fighting against?

What do you want? Us to try to lead a fucking revolution (directly against President Trump’s order) from a forum on the internet, which ends up getting the site shut down in a matter of days and all of us sent to the gulag?

We are between a rock and a hard place.

Free speech, always. Win was built to provide a free speech platform for all communities and all legal speech. Progress has been made on that front.

Now our hosts have jumped on this opportunity to try to shut us down.

Please consider the two routes. Let free speech run wild for a few more hours and soon after cease to exist - or accept that a public facing website isn’t the best place for some discussions?

We have 21 hours.

I think while maybe not likely, it’s a non-zero possibility of Mitt Romney leaving the Republican party and going independent.

Despite his problematic stance on many things, treason doesn’t seem to be one of them. He seems like he’s thoroughly done with this bullshit.

Not for everything, certainly.

He’d temporarily go back to caucusing with the GOP as much as Manchin would in order to ensure that a SCOTUS Expansion Act or PR Statehood Act coming from the House was never even introduced to committee in the Senate.

Since some of the rest of you know more about such things than I do, what are the chances that Trump will follow Hitler and kill himself?

I really hope he doesn’t since, among other things, it would tend to put too much of the guilt on him personally rather than on the Republican party that has loyally nurtured, abetted and supported him throughout his reign of insanity.
As we have said many times here, Trump is not an aberration. He is the entirely logical outcome of 50 years of Republican malfeasance and corruption. If he offs himself, they will try to put as much of it as possible on him, and go right on with a new standard-bearer. It’s obvious that quite a few younger GOPers are angling for that job right now.

I think the road is open to impeachment and conviction. McTurtle is evil but not stupid. He knows that Trump has long outlasted his usefulness and that the Trumpite embrace of conspiracy culture has begun to work against the interests of the party and its wealthy supporters. He cannot save Trump and, possibly thanks to Trump, he cannot save his own dictatorship of the senate. The best he can do is try to preserve as much wealth and privilege as possible for his supporters by not allowing the entire party to go down with Trump. He may not be able to pull that off, but it is the best chance he has.

Elijah Schaffer, a reporter for the Glenn Beck publication The Blaze, wrote that he was “inside Nancy Pelosi’s office” with what he called “revolutionaries” who have “stormed the building.”

“To put into perspective how quickly staff evacuated, emails are still on the screen along side a federal alert warning members of the current revolution,” Schaffer wrote.

A text box on the lower-right corner of the staffer’s screen read “Capitol: Internal Security Threat: Police Activity.”

Schaffer has since deleted the tweet.

So… this afternoon is going to be mocked and laughed at as a lame, half-baked coup attempt - and there’s a lot of truth to that, as it took gross incompetence to allow it to get as close as it did. Trump sent his crowd down the street like some sort of preprogrammed congress-seeking missile, but he didn’t actually follow it up with more than passive obstruction. A more creative, more active president with the right nudges through the executive agencies could have actually won with this gambit.

…but even so, this was a close run thing. People were streaming into the Capitol while the houses were actually debating. I haven’t seen confirmation but there’s a reasonable amount of evidence that someone was shooting into the Senate chamber while senators were still in it. If a half dozen of those thugs had entered carrying automatic weapons, there could have been enough dead senators and even congresspeople to break a Dem majority. And then if enough R’s decide to lean into the opportunity, we have an actual coup on our hands.

As it is, there’s been descriptions of the invaders rampaging through the halls right outside the office doors where reps were sheltering. It’s hard to believe none of them got assaulted. I suspect that part of the answer is that rather fewer rioters managed to enter than we think, that the cap police closed or limited whatever entrances were broken relatively quickly. And that not escalating probably was the right option, at least at that stage.

Fuck, I need to get drunk. I was going to try to go two months this time but I’m not going to make it.

If the cabinet goes for it, it’s literally instant.

Some of the fightback steps could be problematic, but if enough of the cabinet decides to back the play, Congress can run out the clock on Trump’s presidency before it has to come to a vote.

With 13 days left in President Trump’s term, confidants and Republican officials are considering drastic steps to stop him,” Axios reports.

“These measures include censure, impeachment or invoking the 25th Amendment — a move, long dismissed as a liberal fantasy, in which Vice President Pence would step in if Trump were found to be unable to perform his duties.”

“There’s concern about whether the country can withstand another two weeks with Trump at the helm, and what additional chaos and division could be sowed. There’s also rage inside the GOP at Sens. Josh Hawley, Ted Cruz and others whose plans to object to Biden’s certification gave oxygen to Trump, the protests and the notion that Congress could be used to overturn the will of voters.”

Longer than it would take to impeach him. The cabinet could vote to remove him, but Trump could appeal to Congress, where it would take a 2/3 vote in *both* chambers to defeat it. Then I think he could keep appealing.

That last part, I believe, is incorrect. If a miracle occurred and he were declared unfit by a 2/3 majority in both chambers, that’s permanent until and unless Congress, the VP, and Cabinet reverse it.

No.

There are multiple steps involved.

1. Veep and majority of (cabinet) notify that Prez is incapacitated. He is immediately removed from power.

2. President can (immediately if desired) notify that he is NOT incapacitated. The Veep and majority of (cabinet) have four days to disagree (or agree), and on disagreement the clock starts on:

3. Congress has 21 days to vote on whether they think the prez is incapacitated. They need 2/3rds to override the president’s cert, but we’re 14 days from the end of the term.

So Pence + cabinet could effectively sack Trump at this point. It would be messy as fuck, but they can make it stick.

Really the proper way is impeachment, but 25th would work with enough of the correct people behind it.

Trump is just the current figurehead of the American populist movement. Yea most the people on TD uncritically followed Trump for the moment because of the position he held in it but ultimately he is just a manifestation of a pre-existing movement. All the retards who call him Hitler and all that need to realize that he isn’t Hitler he is Hindenburg. Trump was the compromise of a centrist populist politician who did a little course correction but ultimately failed to stop things from getting worse. The institutional opposition was just too high for him to be effective on the issues he was good on. Between the “deep state” and republican establishment and the democrats it was just too much to overcome. The republican establishment in particular has effectively committed suicide with this betrayal and over the next several years i think an enormous amount of them will be primaried and removed. This isnt normal level cuckservativism this is an outright betrayal and attempt to tell the voters to get back in line and accept the neocon leadership again.

The person who eventually follows Trump up is almost certainly going to be all the things they accuse Trump of that he isn’t. So when we get a president who is some mixture of E Michael Jones, Jarod Taylor and Pinochet 4 years or 8 years from now they will have no one to blame but themselves.

It’s critical that Trump be indicted. If he is ambulatory and not in prison, Trump will be the GOP nominee for President in 2024. If the GOP gains control of Congress in the midterms, with Trump supporting candidates, they will elect him President regardless of how the people vote, resulting in a civil war. Trump must be in prison or in exile by then.

Didn’t President Carter issue a blanket pardon for Vietnam War defectors?

Yup.

Proclamation 4483, also known as the Granting Pardon for Violations of the Selective Service Act, was a presidential proclamation issued by Jimmy Carter in 1977. It granted pardons to those who violated the Military Selective Service Act during the Vietnam War era, from August 4, 1964 to March 28, 1973.[1] It was implemented through Executive Order 11967.[2]

I corrected it…could have swore it was Ford.

Damn, and it was done on Carter’s first full day in office, too.

Also, fuck Goldwater’s ghost too:

Barry Goldwater, a supporter of the Vietnam War, referred to the proclamation as “the most disgraceful thing that a president has ever done”. Carter was accused of showing favoritism towards middle-class evaders who were able to successfully stay out of the war.[2] Some veterans of the war were opposed to amnesty for evaders, while anti-war activists said it fell short by not pardoning deserters.[6]

Goldwater may have been a WWII vet that ferried planes and supplies all over India and SE Asia (including over The Hump, which would be hazardous under normal circumstances back in the day, then add enemy fighters hunting for you). However, Carter was also a vet, an Annapolis graduate who served in the Navy as a submarine officer and was starting his training as an engineer on early US nuclear sub powerplants before he had to resign his commission to take over the family farm, so Goldwater held no “moral high ground” to me.

That’s confusing wording which should be cleared up if you read the whole thread - what it actually means is that, of the people who believe the wackadoo disinfo, 56% supported the mob. I don’t think that poll actually shows how many voters total are Qcumber election truthers.

So — is the refusal of the DOD to cooperate with the Biden transition team due to their awareness of Trump’s plans for a coup and wished to conceal this insurrection from the new administration.
