Wow, this new/old Mac Pro actually has an upgraded processor as well, and 32GB of RAM. Thirty-two muthafucken gigabytes. Almost twice as much RAM. I was sad when Bessie died, but her replacement will do just fine.

I don’t think I have a computer in the house that has more than 8GB. Mrs. Fish’s gaming tower might have 16; I don’t remember. It’s one of the things I’ve been in the habit of cheaping out on, but I probably shouldn’t since RAM is generally the critical consumable these days. (My work laptop has 16GB and even that’s not enough; I could actually do with 64, for some of the things I have had to do.)

Yeah, I know the feeling. Going from my 16 GB work laptop (Core i7, SSD) to my 8 GB, old-school Pentium with a 5400 RPM 2.5” platter drive was… extremely jarring. It’s why I eventually had to bust out the gaming tower to get work done; despite its low amount of RAM, at least it’s of a reasonably modern spec, so it can do a lot of stuff with the resources it has.

This MOVEMENT started with Trump. Who gives a fuck if he threw in the towel tonight after 5 years. He just spent 5 YEARS going solo against every supposed ally & the deep state. Do you need this guy to carry you forever? It’s OUR turn now. He lit the way, we have to follow the path.
posted 42 minutes ago by AccipiterQ stickied +1437 / -2
Imagine if after the (first) American Revolution everyone just threw in the towel when the Articles of Confederation didn’t work out. Or after the Stamp Act pre-Revolution everyone just said “oh gee guys, we’re done”. Or if after the Boston Tea Party everyone said “oh no, now the King & British Newspapers will defame us”. Seriously, Trump gave it his all. He’s in his 70s, and he worked 20 hour days for 5 straight years, throwing out his reputation, all of his friends, half his family. He did this for YOU. You want him to do EVERYTHING for you? He got this movement started. It’s not fucking over, he gave us the playbook, now it’s OUR turn to lead this movement, together. Yesterday showed the power we can exert when even a fraction of us get together in one location. We keep this going, forever, until the Left caves in or go extinct because they only fuck 7 year old boys in the ass and can’t reproduce.

I do agree. I have a big computer with 48 gb of ram and two sata drives and a laptop with 8 gb and an M.2. For running a few apps, and especially on startup, the laptop screams.

At some point, I wouldn’t mind converting the other computer, but I have one drive with windows the other Linux, and just swapping feels like a job.

I still love Trump, but I’m very upset with him. Not for bending the knee, but in his speech, demonising his own supporters who were fighting for his cause PEACEFULLY; and then saying we needed to ‘heal and reconcile,’ a phrase straight out of Biden’s mouth. It’s a real punch in the gut. Especially since he hasn’t made one mention of Ashli Babbit who died fighting for his cause.

I am a third party amazon seller. This advise is dangerous, because third party sellers make up over 50% of amazon sales. We are talking about robbing American small businesses. When cucks do this (and they get me too often), it comes out of MY pocket. Amazon will blindly refund the customer if they claim the item doesn’t arrive even through the tracking number says otherwise, and I am robbed.

Now, if it says “sold and shipped by Amazon” then steamroll ahead, comrade. I don’t care about Bezos’ wallet, because he doesn’t care about mine.

Rewatch the most recent video. Zoom in. Pay attention to his face and the contrast between the mic and his collar and the background. Does anything seem off? When his head moves above the mic a black triangle appears briefly at the corner of the collar and tie.

Prosecutors will negotiate and work through who gets first crack with the stronger case and that will go first. We see this with various crimes committed by someone across jurisdictions. Depends on the specific charges involved too. There could be charges filed simultaneously and prosecutions done simultaneously (with Zoom, this is actually easier than physically transporting between jurisdictions).

At least some protestors got as far as the senate floor while they were still in session. What if they’d had guns or explosives? No, there were too many variables and it was too close to causing casualties of the politburo for it to have been planned or scripted to the extent you suggest.

The Capitol was ‘stormed’ because the Deep State wanted it stormed. The ‘riots’ were led by Antifa instigators and the Capitol police was ordered to stand down/let them in — Trust me, if the capitol was truly under ‘attack’ by an irregular group of unarmed people, there is no way in hell those people are going to get inside.

The Reichstag burned in 1933 because the Nazi’s wanted it to burn; and like the burning of the Reichstag, the ‘assault’ on the Capitol bldg was a pre-planned, choreographed, staged, ‘riot’ for the cameras and corporate media to blast all over the news.

As typical, the gullible wing of the RNC took the bait.

My operating theory is still that this isn’t an incoherent or demented person, but a sadistic person whose narcissism buoys them to belief they’re able to get away with shit, and then shit themselves when their helpers point out the ways they’re culpable.

I don’t mean to be a downer, but I think we should consider that another possible reading of the current Cabinet resignations is people scared that there’s a next thing coming, because Donald Trump just literally is never engaged with the real world as a thing separate from his emotional needs.

Edit to add:

Another thing I think that’s worth consideration is that one reading of the mess at the Capitol is that Donald Trump set up a situation in which people who pissed him off were left frightened and vulnerable…

…not that this is true, but if you were a person near him and aware of his vindictive streak and fits of narcissistic rage, it would seem feasible. And Trump has already done a circuitous version of “I made this happen, it was deserved” in public, I would not put it past him to do a more explicit version of this in private…again, whether or not it’s true: he’s a narcissist, and appropriating someone else’s pain and fear to assert control is just a viable strategy.

All of my systems (server, gaming desktop, HTPC, my ROG gaming laptop and my wife’s i7 Haswell Dell business laptop) have SSD/NVME boot and program drives, with spinners for storage. Same with my customers. RAM is great and I recommend 16 GB, which is great for most personal use situations, 32 GB for more serious use scenarios.

But once you drop the spinner and move to SSD/NVME for booting you will never want to give up that < 20 second cold boot. 👍

Nadler’s the one running the Judiciary Committee. Normally, this would first go to his committee to argue and send out charges to the full House to vote.

That he’s saying skip that step tells you that leadership is ready to bring the impeachment to a floor vote quickly. It could come as soon as tomorrow and the House could get this done over the weekend.

This needs to be fully investigated and they need to be punished. They are okay with what could have turned out to be a bloodbath.

There’s so much CYA going on right now.

Not that we’re surprised.

A few weeks after Biden is sworn in, the GOP will act like none of this happened, and any social division is Biden’s fault.

The oldest working computer in my collection has 256 bytes of RAM. Not kilobytes, bytes. I could expand it up to 384 bytes if I could locate an expansion chip that hasn’t been made for forty years.

The most exotic box I ever built was the time I bought into RDRAM instead of high-speed SDRAM for my desktop. That was an entertaining and frustrating build. Also, short-lived.

Makes me remember trying to find SIPP ram (a pin edge variant on 30 pin SIMMs) for an Amiga expansion. Made RDRAMM look normal.

Yeah, I’d say.

That RDRAM box was pretty unstable, if I remember it correctly. A major part of the reason why it was short-lived; eventually, I just made an excuse and upgraded it, and tossed the motherboard and RAM for a competent and modern SDRAM set.

re: #21 Belafon

I think, these days, that a solid state drive is by far the biggest performance improvement you can make.

I had to replace my apparently dying Macbook Pro. After a day or two of we delivered it/no you didn’t (although I can’t complain too much; when I ordered it it wasn’t supposed to even ship til today) I have a Mac Mini M1. It has only 8GB RAM - I couldn’t really afford to bump it up - but supposedly, with the RAM being physically part of the “system on a chip,” I will be just fine with 8. I’m not too worried - I don’t expect to be doing much if any video editing on it. And the 256 GB of storage are flash modules, I believe.
Many years of having only a laptop means I am using a monitor so old that I have my choice of VGA or DVI. I can’t afford $6,000 for a fancy Mac display (add $999 for the fancy stand that goes with it) but I might spring for a less spendy, more up-to-date monitor in a little while.
Of course, the punchline is that my Macbook has been working just fine for 4 or 5 days now. Starting AFTER the new computer arrived.
Wow - it felt nice to spend a few minutes thinking about something other than violent insurrection…

Sad but true - Japanese society easily accommodated their brand of fascism in the 20th century.

Today that would be harder, but Japan still has many people who think along old ways.
