On Jan 6, 2021, a violent mob of Republicans sacked the US Capitol. They did this after a morning of incitement to violence by their lame-duck president Trump — a malignant narcissist, pathological liar, bigot and crook — who the mob worships because of these appalling traits. Hours later, Republican members of Congress that had to flee for their worthless lives from Trump’s mob continued to support Trump’s campaign to steal the election by ‘peaceful’ means that are just as poisonous as mob violence. The root cause of this disaster is the ongoing degeneration of the Republican Party into a fascist death cult, a process which has been under way for at least a century.

Trump won’t have to make that argument, which is a big part of the problem. He likely still has the votes in the Senate to prevent removal from office.

This goes for every Republican elected official nationwide (e.g. Gov. Hogan in MD) that might still have some decency — leave the GOP or be known for aiding and abetting Trumpism, because Trumpism and the GOP are indistinguishable.

As always there are only two kinds of Republicans:

1) Violent Trumpist deplorables seeking to make Trump a dictator.

2) Enablers of same.

Every supposedly decent person in high office who carries the (R) after their name is intrinsically enabling Trumpist violence.

I’ve said it before and I keep saying it;

Conservatism is not a set ideology. It is a vector towards placing more and more power and wealth into fewer and fewer hands. The particular planks in the Conservative platform can change as society evolves.

In American Conservatism, it is privileged white men that are supposed to be on top, with women and minorities that assist in supporting this power structure that are allowed to share …up to a point. Don’t upset the apple cart.

Did Biden use the word, “Nazi” or did Biden’s remarks hit just a little too close to home for Hawley?

Biden talked about Goebbels and the Big Lie technique of propaganda, and said that was what Trump, Cruz, Hawley and others were doing. Just repeating a lie until people believed.

It would be nice to complete impeachment #2 before Jan 20. After that date I think Trump will claim to be the legitimate President of the U.S. because the Demos cheated. Trump will probably claim to be President in exile at Trump Tower or Ireland (if he gets in) or wherever. Just to keep division of the country going.

Here’s the money quote: “The DeVos adviser declined to say whether DeVos had spoken with Pence or Trump directly about the situation.”

Sounds like Betsy resigned based on Pence’s mealy-mouthed tweets not actually having a meeting where she advocated for the 25th and was shot down.

I’m starting to get the opinion this is like a middle school dance. They are all staring at each other hoping someone else will make the first move, and they are all cowards so no one will.

I wonder how Defense spending in their state could be affected by the conduct and rhetoric of a newly elected Senator who sides with those laying violent siege to the USA? -Especially with a Congress controlled by Democrats?

I wonder if they will be soon be eager to contribute to the campaigns of those Republican Senators who can remove this cancer from Congress? I wonder.

The good news is, as long as the articles of impeachment are in before the 20th, he can still be impeached even after the 20th (if necessary). However, conviction and removal from office would obviously be moot.

- i didnt know that first part. so he could still be barred from future office if the senate showed some balls.

- let’s remember from last time, as soon as the house votes, he’s impeached. for all time. and this time FOR THE SECOND TIME. whatever the senate does or doesn’t do. twice impeached. 10 days before the end of his term. And for insurrection!!!!

Asked if Sens. Ted Cruz of Texas and Josh Hawley of Missouri should resign, Biden said: “I think they should be just flat beaten the next time they run. I think the American public has a real, clear look at who they are. They’re part of the big lie.”

“The acolytes that follow (Trump), like Cruz and others — they’re as responsible as he is,” Biden said. “There are decent people out there who actually believe these lies because they’ve heard it again and again.”

Yeah, but it’s just a website, so people can still get on with a browser. The phone apps are probably nothing but dedicated browsers, in fact. It probably would hurt them somewhat to lose those apps but it wouldn’t shut them down.

But sometimes high traffic sites will use distributed caching like Akamai and so forth. Akamai has servers *everywhere*. Wouldn’t surprise me if Akamai and other services like it (or even a service Amazon is offering itself along with hosting) would be on AWS.

Back in days of yore (2000-ish) they had a whole rack of caching servers located at the ISP I used to work for.

Amazon does have a CDN service, yes, but it also works best integrated with its own Website hosting services or VMs. Your theory is plausible, but I feel on balance it’s more likely that they have it hosted on AWS and use its CDN for traffic balancing.

You’d be surprised; I built some automation for Microsoft Azure a few years ago that did exactly that. However, they would have to keep those backups pretty up-to-date, and it would require them to have pretty sophisticated tech staff.

Which is why they unanimously renominated Rona.

Who else would take the job?

What Charles said.

I truly fear what Trump, Hawley and Cruz will try to pull tonight.

I can’t imagine that they’d be a team. They’re each in it for themselves, even if they’re telling the same lie. The lie is there for them to exploit for their own gain.

re: #151 NO SMOCKING GUN!

That is how most people access their social media

That, plus an app can be customized to have fast navigation, better interface for posting photos/comments, etc.

Fine, but app removal doesn’t do anything other than make you use a browser. It’s not suppression of any kind other than ease of use.

Anger about how Trump “treated Pence”. All the others, Republicans, Democrats, police, staff — small people, not important.

re: #151 NO SMOCKING GUN!

I know multiple people who haven’t touched a computer in months or even years outside of work and do everything on their phone and their social media is always through the dedicated apps. I dislike doing things on my phone, especially if I have to type. Even the couple of bullshit mobile games I have, I use BlueStacks on PC to do most of time if I’m not sitting in a waiting room somewhere or on the toilet (LOL) as that’s where those apps come in handy.

I’m expecting there will be a whole generation of people taking ibuprofen like it’s candy from all the eye strain headaches and needing reading glasses badly.

re: #54 Nyet

chan is channel, but it is also a “suffix”/honorific to refer to girls or young women (among others) in Japanese, with kun being the male equivalent.

In other words 8kun is the Yaoi version of 8chan.

I’ve been saying for years. “The Tree of Liberty must be watered with blood!”

Sardonically.

But the American Faithful, i.e. The Trump Cult, believe it.
