BREAKING: Twitter Permanently Suspends Donald Trump (Yes, Really)

Politics • Views: 27,782

Yes, they really did it at last.

Here’s the official statement: Permanent suspension of @realDonaldTrump.

After close review of recent Tweets from the @realDonaldTrump account and the context around them — specifically how they are being received and interpreted on and off Twitter — we have permanently suspended the account due to the risk of further incitement of violence.

In the context of horrific events this week, we made it clear on Wednesday that additional violations of the Twitter Rules would potentially result in this very course of action. Our public interest framework exists to enable the public to hear from elected officials and world leaders directly. It is built on a principle that the people have a right to hold power to account in the open.

It’s way, way too late, of course. Twitter should have taken this action years ago.

Isn’t parler accessible through a browser; why need app?

So they can immediately post selfies from their klan meetings?

Realistically, this seems like an unlikely time for traitors in the US military to follow illegal orders from Trump. Trump’s coup attempt on 1/6 failed, he is now more of a loser than ever, and traitors don’t follow losers.

Trump could still technically tweet from the @potus account, but he’s banned.

I’d suggest watching accounts of Junior, Ivanka, Eric, and others to see if they start following someone new or retweeting a new account out of the ordinary.

That’d be a tell that it’s Trump.

That Twitter has banned Trump but the GOP has refused to impeach and remove Trump tells you all you need to know about Trump and the GOP. They are a bunch of treasonweasels who think it better to suck up to Trump and the insurrectionist base than remove the guy who sent the insurrectionist mob to the Capitol with the intent to kill members of Congress and the VP.

That’s right folks, Trump was egging the crowd, and the crowd planners were looking to kill and kidnap members of Congress and the VP, and Trump had to be forced to give that hostage video last night because those GOPers realized they were expendible.

Fuck the GOP. Impeach and remove Trump. And then resign.

More good news. Hawley’s grift train just got derailed.

Sen. Josh Hawley’s book canceled by publisher citing ‘deadly insurrection’ at Capitol building

New York (CNN Business)In an extraordinary move, Simon & Schuster announced Thursday that it would no longer publish a planned book by Sen. Josh Hawley, one of the Republican lawmakers who led objections to Congress certifying President-elect Joe Biden’s victory.
“After witnessing the disturbing, deadly insurrection that took place on Wednesday in Washington, D.C., Simon & Schuster has decided to cancel publication of Senator Josh Hawley’s forthcoming book,” the company said in a statement.
“We did not come to this decision lightly,” Simon & Schuster added. “As a publisher it will always be our mission to amplify a variety of voices and viewpoints: at the same time we take seriously our larger public responsibility as citizens, and cannot support Senator Hawley after his role in what became a dangerous threat to our democracy and freedom.”
Hawley in a statement responded to Simon & Schuster’s decision by calling the move “Orwellian” and a “direct assault on the First Amendment” — even though as a graduate of Yale Law School he likely knows the First Amendment is about government restricting free speech and not forcing a private company to publish his work.

Sure, he is going to go down as THE worst President* in US history, architect of an American genocide, instigator of the first armed occupation of the U.S. Capitol since 1814, potentially impeached twice, and (in a veeeery long shot) maybe the first President* removed from office. I can only think of the closing lines in A Face In The Crowd:

Suppose I tell you exactly what’s gonna happen to you. You’re gonna be back in television. Only it won’t be quite the same as it was before. There’ll be a reasonable cooling-off period and then somebody will say: “Why don’t we try him again in a inexpensive format. People’s memories aren’t too long.” And you know, in a way, he’ll be right. Some of the people will forget, and some of them won’t. Oh, you’ll have a show. Maybe not the best hour or, you know, top 10. Maybe not even in the top 35. But you’ll have a show. It just won’t be quite the same as it was before. Then a couple of new fellas will come along. And pretty soon, a lot of your fans will be flocking around them. And then one day, somebody’ll ask: “Whatever happened to, a, whatshisname? You know, the one who was so big. The number-one fella a couple of years ago. He was famous. How can we forget a name like that? Oh by the way, have you seen, a, Barry Mills? I think he’s the greatest thing since Will Rogers.”

Trump has never faced any consequences in his life. That consequences are now raining down on him in such a spectacularly public fashion is delightful.

And he still has no idea what he’s done wrong. He can’t comprehend it.

My best and longest friend in the world lived in Waukesha for a number of years. Left specifically due to how wingnut-riddled it was (this was pre-2016.)

He moved to upstate New York, which I’m not sure is any better, although he says it is.

Upstate is mixed for sure. You have the Trump Nazis but also plenty of crunchy granola types as well. ..All mixed with the new wealthy hipsters in their Audis who bought old falling down small town center brownstones and renovated them into $2 mill territory.

Trump’s permaban is the closest thing I’ve seen in real life to Barad-Dur toppling at the end of the Lord of the Rings.

Hopefully Trump’s trial and conviction for his crimes eclipses the Twitter ban, but the Twitter ban is a done deal, while trials and convictions are hopes.

re: #85 thedopefishlives

Mrs. Fish made that point when we were discussing Trump’s legacy a few minutes ago. Sure, he is going to go down as THE worst President* in US history, architect of an American genocide, instigator of the first armed occupation of the U.S. Capitol since 1814, potentially impeached twice, and (in a veeeery long shot) maybe the first President* removed from office. However, he WILL go down in the history books, and people WILL be talking about him, perhaps more than the historic President Obama, simply because of how incompetent and stupid and all-around BAD he was.

I know I posted it on FB; forget whether I wrote here. Apologies if I’m repeating myself.

Trump has done what the Confederacy, the Nazis, Communist Russia, and al Queda failed to do: badly cripple American democracy. He’s managed to damage possibly the one crown jewel in our political system: the peaceful transfer of power via a free and fair election.

The more I think about it, the more angry and upset I get. Part of it is me venting, but I feel like I should drive to DC with a bat or something and start pushing back.

My biggest fear right now is that we’ve got a SHIELD/Hydra situation going on with law enforcement and the military right now, and come Inauguration Day, you’re going to see cops and soldiers ambush their non-MAGAt brethren, along with any politician or civilian that is the “enemy”.

Sorry, just how I feel. We all know this was gonna get bad, but now that it’s here, it’s worse than I imagined.

Financial institutions and Google and Apple better take a good hard look at doing business with parler. The business is aiding and abetting insurrection, providing a platform for conspiracies against the US government, and breaking countless laws.

You don’t want to be associated with a business like that (and doing that will end Parler as a viable business).

(Via NBC) In the wake of Wednesday’s riot at the Capitol, Trump supporters with extremist views feel emboldened and are vowing to return to Washington for the upcoming inauguration of President-elect Joe Biden on January 20, using online platforms to rally each other.

“Many of Us will return on January 19, 2021, carrying Our weapons, in support of Our nation’s resolve, towhich [sic] the world will never forget!!! We will come in numbers that no standing army can match,” wrote a popular Parler user who frequently posts about QAnon, and is being tracked by the Anti-Defamation League.

Parler, Telegram chat rooms and the platform TheDonald.win were all used to plan and coordinate the Jan. 6 rally that turned into a riot. Posters explicitly stated their intentions to “occupy” the Capitol. QAnon conspiracy theorists and people associated with militia groups had a visible presence in Wednesday’s crowd.

“Round 2 on January 20th. This time no mercy. I don’t even care about keeping Trump in power. I care about war,” an anonymous person posted on the platform TheDonald.win, which is filled with comments posted by people who lauded those who rioted Wednesday as “heroes.”

I stand by my basic position that these people are all fucking weak cowards, and are dangerous precisely because they’re weak cowards.

The shit they did on the 6th was weak coward shit.

They’re never brave, but they feel safe when they were a giant pack facing down a tiny number of resisters…but then they’re authentically baffled and confused later the same day when people used organized force against them effectively.

People who can’t admit their weakness and fear are always looking for situations in which to wield power…but only if they risk nothing. Which explains every single version of empty bravado these people base their culture around.

An explanation of the 25th amendment from Jamie Raskin, a constitutional law professor in Vanity Fair.

There are two big misconceptions about the 25th Amendment. The first is that it’s all about the removal of a president who is unable to discharge the powers and duties of office. That is section four, but the first three sections deal with other problems in terms of vacancies and instability in the presidency. Section one is all about if the presidency is vacant, the vice president becomes president, and that was not clear before. It was clear that the vice president exercised presidential powers, but it wasn’t clear that he actually became the president. Section two is all about filling a vice presidential vacancy by presidential nomination and then majority votes in both houses of Congress. The third section is about a president voluntarily transferring the powers of his or her office to the vice president in the event of a temporary vacancy. This too has happened numerous times, usually about the famous presidential colon. It’s happened during a number of colonoscopies. It happened during President Reagan’s colorectal surgery. But that is done voluntarily by the president. And it ends when the president is able to resume his or her duties.

Section four is the part that is about a president who for whatever reason—physical or mental—is unable to recognize his or her own inability to successfully discharge the powers and duties of office. So that’s what is coming to focus today, but understand that that’s part of a broader system of rules, which have been activated many times in our history. The other major misconception is that in section four, it requires the vice president and a majority of the cabinet to act. That is one of two ways it can be activated. The other is that the vice president and a majority of a body set up by Congress determined that there is a presidential inability to discharge the powers and duties of office.

My emphasis.

Still, of course, seeing pickup trucks with big Trump flags here. New addition is “Fuck Biden” flags. It’s going to take years to overcome this, and probably we’ll always be divided. It is a problem that Reconstruction couldn’t solve. Resentment is in some folks’ DNA.

In fairness, in true American fashion, we half assed reconstruction. And then sort of fucked off for a century and then half assed it again during the civil rights era. I fully expect us to half ass this again

Yerkes Observatory of the University of Chicago. It has a 40” refracting telescope; the largest operational one in the world. (I have a quarter scale version of it) It’s actually located north of the city in William’s Bay Wisconsin.

I did a happy dance earlier. I want Inauguration Day to be over. At least the head of Evil, Inc will be gone and we can begin cleaning up the mess. But we have a long dangerous road ahead. Some of his followers will drop back, finances might dictate that for some. What we have to worry about are the ones left who feel like they’ve got nothing left to lose. Those are the ones that will attempt to (and have a serious chance of success) kill Americans. They may end their lives in murder/suicide scenarios, build bombs and hurt hundreds or more, plot and carry out mass shootings, kidnappings and god knows what else.

At least the FBI is finding these fucks one at a time, but there seems to be a half a dozen more willing traitors for each one. The whole DOJ is going to be needed to find and punish this shit. I’m happy we have all three branches, for now, but we are a broken country. I’m not sure how we can fix all that and squelch this level of hatred.

Just like with the previous use of “Orwellian,” Haley’s invocation of China perfectly inverts what’s actually happening.

I swear this a tell. Because they’re arguing in bad faith, and the “real” issue is them not getting exactly what they want—which they can’t say, because it gives away the bad faith game—they have to assume the position of victimization even when they have all the power.

If they were dealing in good faith, they’d be able to construct a positive argument, a reason the thing happening was bad independent of it happening to them…but they just fucking can’t.

Yerkes Observatory was operated by the University of Chicago until earlier this year but it is in Williams Bay, Wi. It was turned over to the Yerkes Future Foundation in May. It is one of the sites Joe Guzman uses for his club. He packs the gang into a bus and they head up there for some observation. The 40 inch refractor has been the largest successful refractor in the world since it was dedicated in 1897.

It’s the bully-coward, wife-beater worldview: I get everything I demand or I’m the victim, you don’t ask for anything or you’re victimizing me: anything I do to you is deserved, anything you do to me is justification for anything I want to do to you.

Maybe the reason Iran and other autocratic countries aren’t banned is that they are better at following Twitter’s terms of service than Trump?. Ahmadinejad gained a brief moment of fame in 2018 for commenting on Michigan football, a pretty benign tweet unless you are from Ohio. How about not mass distributing some guys image until you KNOW it is him? Maybe send a tip to the FBI or police if you are not sure. I listen to a podcast called the Murder Squad that tries to crowd source solving cold case files. They have a hard and fast rule that tips should be shared privately with them or sent directly to law enforcement. No sharing unconfirmed info publicly.

I realize I’m on a tear tonight, but…

…nobody wants to handle someone else’s shit, forcing someone to do so is a show of power.

An incredibly crude and basic one that in most situations just means you don’t care about social norms and have no empathy, but that’s all these people do with power—revel in how it allows them to feel schadenfreude.

It’s a famous place for astronomy. One of the major observatories in the US was put there… a long time ago.

This important observatory is close to Chicago as well.

Yerkes Observatory

Yerkes Observatory (/ˈjɜːrkiːz/ YUR-keez) is an astronomical observatory located in Williams Bay, Wisconsin, U.S.A. It was operated by the University of Chicago Department of Astronomy and Astrophysics[2][3] from its founding in 1897 to 2020. Ownership was transferred to the non-profit Yerkes Future Foundation (YFF) in May, 2020.

The observatory, sometimes called “the birthplace of modern astrophysics”, was founded in 1892 by astronomer George Ellery Hale and financed by businessman Charles T. Yerkes.[4] It represented a shift in the thinking about observatories, from their being mere housing for telescopes and observers, to the early-20th-century concept of observation equipment integrated with laboratory space for physics and chemistry analysis.

Therefore he will be a pure agent of chaos between now and then, since for him any chance of retaining power is better than no chance of retaining power.

I can understand that. I liken it to a moment of comic relief. The method of this man’s death is humorous and ironic. However, he was still a terrorist who was trying to steal property from within the halls of one of the most sacred places in American history. I can appreciate the humor in that moment, but in the main, it is a sobering reminder of all that is fucked up on the right in this country.

re: #375 The Ghost of a Flea

That Q shaman dude is a good example of what freaks me out.

The costume is…stupid, lurid, camp. He is ostentatious and preening and dumb.

But if it weren’t for the costume, he’s large man that likes going out in public and saying frightening and upsetting things (and yeah he’s literally shouting about sex with kids, which is a thing I think he specifically enjoys doing)…very, very, loudly, in a way that everybody around him isn’t just embarrassed or uncomfortable, but actively braced for the moment he does something violent or even murderous. And he is very clearly having a great time doing it. That is deeply antisocial, and the clear enjoyment he derives from it…not “the message” he’s delivering, but the process of upsetting people…speaks to impulses that are sadistic and psychopathic.

All these people, even the ones that are out of shape and dumb-looking and say dumb things…they’re filled with incredibly ugly thoughts, and we’ve only seen the surface stuff that they feel safe expressing as they’re part of a mob. What they hold deeper, what they’d do given time and complete license…well, in my experience it’s sadistic and rapey, because the direct follow-up to their “we demand everything” politics is a deeper-seeded entitlement to do what they want with other people’s bodies.

The world should realize that any entity that hosts a Donald Trump platform should be considered as a Military threat to the United States of America, its government offficials, and most of the population inside America…..and treated as such.

re: #375 The Ghost of a Flea

I’m not really able to laugh.

Not because the tragedy of all men or anything…it’s more like that everything these people do is pathetic and petty, but there’s so much malice involved that I’m just relieved when they fuck up bad enough they disable themselves.

They’re not theater. They’re people so fucking gross and cruel and in such a hurry to do antisocial things that they pratfall in the process of being murderous and larcenous and rapey.

There is no political, moral, or ethical context in which tasering your own balls is not funny.

If people were listening to Greenwald then he wouldn’t have to unlock the article for anyone to know it exists.

So no trial until after Trump leaves office, but if it’s successful, Trump is permanently barred from holding any federal office.

Every time I see the name Glenn Greenwald I can’t help but think of the TOS Star Trek episode “Cloud Minders” where a city of elites floats in the sky while the lowly miners suffer and toil in misery providing the riches that the city dwellers enjoy.

I wonder why?

Pence and McConnell may be arranging an inside deal with Republicans for the ‘24 run as to who gets which Dept upon a Pres. Victory .. in order to the Removal vote necessary.
