Lyrics:
I know that I caused this pain
I know you can’t let me go
Crying in the midnight rain
Waiting on a miracle

I - I release you
Though it’s hard to
Say the words
And I - I release you
From holding on to
The bridge I burned
I release you
From the darkness
From the love that
We swore was true
I hope that someday
The sun will shine again
And you’ll release me too

Even if I’m in your arms
Even if you touch my skin
I could never change my heart
After being where it’s been

Oh, I - I release you
Though it’s hard to
Say the words
And I - I release you
From holding on to
The bridge I burned
I release you
From the darkness
From the love that
We swore was true
I hope that someday
The sun will shine again
And you’ll release me too

I could never change my heart
After being where it’s been

I release you
From the darkness
From the love that
We swore was true
I hope that someday
The sun will shine again
And you’ll release me too
Oh, you’ll release me too

Previous thread:

re: #336 A Mom Anon

Same with us, though we have no minor children. Our reasons for moving here was cheap to live (despite Nebraska’s notoriously high property taxes).

Things got along very well (unlike many small towns, ours is actually very welcoming, and I’m originally from a small village anyway).

Things only got dicey when our non-belief came out; then some folks in town started withdrawing from us. We are not entirely shunned, but there’s a good portion of the town which will not associate with us now.

It’s a bit ironic, since I was originally appointed to our village board because I was the “non-controversial” candidate. It’s quite fascinating really how one single non-conforming thing can get a significant portion of a town to shun you.

By definition, a coup is chaos. That’s part of the point: To create confusion and doubt about what’s going on so that when the dust finally settles, their guys are firmly entrenched in the seats of power.

PGA to strip Trump golf club of 2022 PGA Championship: report

The PGA of America has hinted at plans to prevent President Donald Trump’s National Bedminster golf club from holding the 2022 PGA Championship, nj.com reported.

The organization made the move after the president incited a deadly riot on Capitol Hill.

According to Golfweek’s Eamon Lynch, the PGA will officially strip Bedminster of the championship after Trump leaves office.

I’m glad to see it. They were a joke for too long and it’s better for the league if they’re competitive.

Probably also growing up in the dead zone 70’s as a Packer’s fan. There was a terribly long time of “what if’s” and “almosts” and injuries at the wrong time (Lynn Dickey’s leg) that made the years between #15 and #4 a very long time so I can sympathize with their fans.

I loved the 1968 Cubs like only a nine-year-old boy could, watched all their games on WGN, even got to go see a couple of games at Wrigley Field that summer, where my brother caught a foul ball in the stands and gave it to me to get autographed by Ferguson Jenkins.

And they broke my heart by losing out to the Mets in the final weeks of the season.

Still never really recovered from that.

When I started following the Twins, it was 2007, and they were just in the midst of a long string of “always a bridesmaid, never a bride” where they would dominate the division, then lose to the Yankees in the first round of the playoffs. They now own one of the longest, if not THE longest, postseason losing streaks in all of American professional sports, having not won a postseason game since 2003.

No kidding. Pahrump is also home to a real estate scam that was to involve housing, industry, shopping, etc., etc. There are actually a couple areas of that that have some homes, but the residents have some legal issues when trying to do much of anything related to their properties because the developer left them in legal limbo (don’t remember the details.)

I do recommend it as a base of operations to visit Ash Meadows Nat’l Wildlife Refuge, which is IMHO really interesting. I don’t particularly recommend going in the middle of summer though. It can be painfully hot, as befits it’s location just east of Death Valley.

He told The Times of London: ‘We wanted to show that we’re willing to rise up, band together and fight if necessary. Same as our forefathers, who established this country in 1776. It was a kind of flexing of muscles.’

His mom, Lisa Eisenhart, 57, said: ‘The left has everything: the media, organisations, the government. We have to organise if we’re going to fight back and be heard.’

The nurse, who wore a bullet proof vest like her son, added: ‘This country was founded on revolution. If they’re going to take every legitimate means from us, and we can’t even express ourselves on the internet, we won’t even be able to speak freely, what is America for?

‘I’d rather die as a 57-year-old woman than live under oppression. I’d rather die and would rather fight.’

But he told The New Yorker he thought he was welcome to enter the US Capitol and claimed he ‘found’ the zip ties on the floor and merely picked them up so he could hand them in to a police officer.

I’m just going to keep being that guy…

This is how these people always were, because they were raised in a culture where the only core belief was their own impunity. Prior to the last couple of years, they’ve just been getting away with constantly demanding more impunity. And lots of people raised within the same cultural parameters—that white folks are individuals and their bad acts are not suggestive of cultural norms, that what they say and do in extremis is not “who they are”—have covered for them.

And we have a bunch of laundering systems where bloodlust and revanchism by white people becomes “neutral” policy underpinning culture and politics.

Now that they’re applying their sense of entitlement to other white people, in the open, it’s shocking and unsettling, because it’s colonizer-on-colonizer violence.

A lot of respect for Arnold, an immigrants view is so profound. For what it’s worth here is my view. The Republican Party has lied for years and this is the result. Once some one lies to you you can never trust them again. Trump and his cronies need to be dealt with severely. This cannot happen again. The republicans are like dealing with spoiled children, you can’t talk or reason with them. They only understand one thing. Sometimes you have to punch someone in the mouth to get their attention. Post-protest update. It was much more lively in the 10 am hour. They did NOT like hearing me alternate between “Eric Jones is a false prophet” and “If you asked God to overturn the election, you have blood on your hands from Wednesday’s coup.” I have this on video, but I’ve never had good success on cutting this stuff down to actually show it to others.

That said, these people actually do believe STILL that Trump is going to be president. One woman asked me what I’d do if Trump did become president again. I told her bluntly, “I’ll be back outside your church until someone shoots me.” Implication: I’m going to call them out on their hypocrisy…she told me that wasn’t going to happen, and I said, neither is Trump being president.

But seriously, these people prayed for the insurrection, and I am not going to let them forget it!

I think the problem is that our laws don’t define domestic terrorists. I think it goes so far as to exclude citizens from the definition of terrorism.

It helps to be a good writer. John Scalzi takes on Thoughts on Coups and Sedition:

First, he’s [Hawley] a seditious piece of shit who thankfully chose exactly the worst possible time to yoke himself to the Trump wagon — I mean, seriously, it takes some doing to have tied yourself to the man just as he’s going over a fucking cliff, but Hawley managed it. Second, that little fist pump he gave to the mob before they went and trashed his workplace is perhaps the most spectacularly ill-timed bit of portraiture in the history of the Senate. Third, the fact that even after the House invasion Hawley still deciding that disrupting the electoral vote count was a good idea shows that his sense of political timing is epochally poor. He’s certainly paying for it, though — he lost his book contract, the major newspapers in his state have called on him to resign, and his political mentor calls him the “worst mistake” of his life. Life comes at you fast, doesn’t it, Senator Hawley.

He’s not alone in the sedition caucus — he’s joined by Ted Cruz, a fetid assemblage of moist dryer lint that dares to assert it’s a man, as well as a few other Republican senators, and more than a hundred Republican House members, including, regrettably, my own. They all should be ashamed of their votes on Tuesday night and Wednesday morning, although of course they won’t be. What is shame to the shameless? It would be nice to think Hawley and Cruz, at the very least, might be bounced from the Senate for their role in abetting sedition, but, like Trump being removed before the end of his term, I wouldn’t get my hopes up.

Scalzi has more thoughts, and this is really a good posting, developing a way of looking at all of this from a different angle: But What If We Didn’t

Highly recommended from here.

I have a theory about the Republican Party, and it is that around the time Newt Gingrich became the head of its brain trust, the GOP added a fourth functioning principle to its previous tripod of “Southern Strategy to corner the racist vote,” “Abortion to corner the Evangelical vote” and “Tax cuts to corner the capitalist vote (and money).” The fourth principle was not about kettling and controlling a voting bloc, but rather a principle to maximize its power and to motivate the voting blocs beyond whatever the GOP could offer them politically.

That fourth principle, to put it in its shortest and bluntest form, is:

“But what if we… didn’t?”

Political theater by a lot of them. Just rattling the sabers and running the usual grift on the rubes. Cosplay acting out of rebellious fantasies and “sticking it to the libs” by others. And still others who took it quite seriously as a means to get at the traitors and Deep State - and the last were those that might well have had a much deeper set of conspiracies running and inside contacts giving them information.

That the GOP leaders are trying to brazen things out again comes as no surprise. Every previous time the media has given them a free pass. And I bet a bunch of them think they can pawn a lot of the blame onto Trump, and also somehow hold onto the support of the nuts. (And Cruz and Hawley are actively pandering to this group and trying to get that mantle of support for 2024.)

And note that a lot of the nut support (Sorbo’s tweets are a good example) is simply not going to admit to themselves that they might be wrong.

A Mom Anon  Jan 10, 2021 • 12:47:09pm

I can’t even imagine the trauma that the good people at the Capitol that day must be dealing with today and onward. I heard some House members decided to have group therapy sessions guided by a mental health professional. Some other things that broke my heart:

The congressman, after the madness, filling trash bags with debris left behind by traitors. Rep.Andy Kim of New Jersey. He said he was heartbroken to see trash, cigarette butts, and just crap left behind and it was something he could do, so he did. That one got me, I have no idea why.

House members in the Gallery, trapped and obviously scared and in shock. Another House member who served in Iraq was still down on the floor and stayed behind for a few minutes as others were being evacuated from the floor and was yelling up to them how to get out safely around the crowd outside the Gallery doors and explaining how to work the gas masks with plastic bag hoods under all the chairs. He was one of the last to leave the floor so he could try to make sure those trapped above could be safe. Rep. Ruben Gallego of Arizona fell back on his military training and knew he had to do something while remaining calm and safe himself. Seeing the pictures of people trapped and huddling down in the Gallery pissed me off and broke my heart.

The ringleaders of this, stochastic and hands on have got to be caught and prosecuted. The more caught, the more likely they are to turn on each other. My biggest concern is how many sympathetic cohorts are/will be involved in the investigation of this and how that effects the outcome. I honestly don’t care if we have to build a prison just for these fucks. Or maybe just use a border facility, empty the kids out of one and treat them just like the kids got treated there. I’m tired of awful people always winning, always making the rules, always fucking over others and getting away with it, getting rewarded financially while others work and starve. It has to change. But I know it won’t, not without more will to fix it and sadly, more bloodshed. 💔😢

I think the problem is that our laws don’t define domestic terrorists. I think it goes so far as to exclude citizens from the definition of terrorism.

No. We’ve taken out citizens with drone strikes who were messing around with Al Qaeda, so we can take out anyone we need. If worse comes to worst, we’ll reform the Mac Bolan team and wipe the neo-nazis off the face of the earth while he drives around in the Executioner van. Imagine waking up to headlines like Miami Massacre and discovering that a bunch of right-wing thugs got taken out in a week-long shakedown.

They do, but only in the narrow sense of attacking infrastructure. It’s why the dipshit Nazi from Missouri who hijacked an Amtrak train here in Nebraska to “save it from Black people” (with the intent of murdering them) was convicted of terrorism charges in 2018.

(with audio, 5:03)

A Missouri neo-Nazi armed with a gun who disabled an Amtrak train traveling through southwest Nebraska last year pleaded guilty Thursday to a terrorism charge and could spend the rest of his life in prison.

“I’m the conductor now, bitch!” Taylor M. Wilson told three train conductors as they wrestled with him in the engine compartment to take back control of the train, according to court documents that detail a harrowing experience for the 175 passengers on board.

Some passengers were so panicked they tried to jump off the train through the windows. (more)

The more I hear about Wednesday, the less I understand how this ended without dozens of assassinations or without major explosions and fires in DC. Were they just so completely inept? Was the ‘revolution’ just a frat party (with bonus cop beatings) to 99% of them?

my assumption is that 99% of the crowd was useless idiots who were being used as white noise, while 1% actually had an idea of where they were going and what they were doing. The problem for them was that thanks to some reasonable luck and reasonable proaction on the part of congress (being smart enough to lock down soon enough), the 1% didn’t get to exercise their full plan. Still, as others have pointed out, this wouldn’t be the first time, nor the millionth time, where a general has committed forces for no other reason than to see what security actually looks like. I think Shaka Zulu has a scene where the Zulu king launches an obviously hopeless attack at the beginning, which brings forth a question from one of the junior officers, which causes somebody further up the food chain—probably the command sergeant major because officers generally aren’t smart enough to know anything—to state “He’s counting our guns.”

Fareed Zakaria in WaPo: The good news hidden within one of America’s darkest weeks

For four years, I have wondered when the Trump fever would break. When, I wondered, would people see that he was not a comical figure, enjoying his bizarre reality television version of the presidency, but a narcissist and a demagogue, stoking racism and hate, deeply at odds with the democratic character of the country? This week, it might have happened. You don’t need the whole country to snap away — even by the time Richard M. Nixon resigned, a quarter of Americans still supported him — but you need enough that it resets the norm. Perhaps we had to go over the edge to climb back.

OK, it’s still dino porn.

It’s been years since Jeff met the mysterious Banner on his dating apps, a blue prehistoric bird who claims to be a manifested concept but is very clearly a dinosaur. The two lovers had a powerful connection over text, but when it came time to meet up, Banner disappeared.

Suddenly, however, Banner has entered Jeff’s life again, this time sporting an enormous red circle with a line through the middle. When Banner reveals that he’s the physical manifestation of Domald Tromp’s Twitter ban, Jeff if upset with him for the enormous delay. Where the hell was Banner four years ago?

Jeff decides then and there that the two of them are not going to date, but maybe this moment is better late than never, and it just might be worth a celebratory one-night stand.

This erotic tale is 4,100 words of sizzling human on gay living concept action, including anal, blowjobs, rough sex, cream pies and social media ban love.

One cannot be safe if family members are conservative religion apologists, as I noted back at the beginning of the maladministration. As we saw in Washington, they are quite ready, just like other religions, to kill for their beliefs.

There is no shame in distancing yourself from a fanatic. Though it might be painful if that fanatic is a family member, it may save your own life. You cannot reason someone out of a religion that they reasoned themselves into (for varying definitions of reason).

I think Trump blew it. He had one chance to get a mob organized and do an event like this.
a) hes gone from the net- all means of communication with the masses to keep the movement going is gone. His enemies dominate the media landscape.
b) Most of the visible people from the Capitol is picked up by law enforcement.
c) Most hangers on know now that there are a price to be paid. Perhaps you can explain away one demonstration but not two. Probably not worth it (jail and loss of job etc) so no mass event.
d) Everybody knows the Law enforcement wont get caught with its pants down twice. That includes surveillance of communications
e) There will be a new sheriff in town in a few days with new priorities.
f) Trump is out of time to organize another event.
g) I have a hard time envisioning the military helping him now.

Only thing i can think of is a Gandhi or Sadat event where secret service assassinates Biden and rest of the dignitaries. But i think Trump don’t work that way.

And that poor terrorist in the airport is lucky, he’s only a terrorist.
Where I come from and where I live, what they did on 2021-01-06 is treason.
And where I come from, when you take the following oath, it becomes high treason:

I, (name), promise and affirm before the almighty and all-knowing God (in affirmation: by my honor and by my conscience), that I am a trustworthy and faithful citizen of the realm of Finland. I want to serve my country honestly and, to my best ability, seek and pursue her edification and advantage. I want everywhere and in every situation, during the peace and during the war, defend the inviolability of my fatherland, her legal system of government and the legal authority of the realm. If I perceive or gain knowledge of activity to overthrow the legal authority or to subvert the system of government of the country, I want to report it to the authorities without delay. The troop to which I belong and my place in it I will not desert in any situation, but so long as I have strength in me, I will completely fulfill the task I have received. I promise to act properly and uprightly, obey my superiors, comply with the laws and decrees and keep the service secrets trusted in me. I want to be forthright and helpful to my fellow servicemen. Never will I due to kinship, friendship, envy, hatred or fear nor because of gifts or any other reason act contrary to my duty in service. If I be given a position of superiority, I want to be rightful to my subordinates, to take care of their well-being, acquire information on their wishes, to be their councilor and guide and, for my own self, set them a good and encouraging example. All this I want to fulfill according to my honor and my conscience.

I’ll say this til I’m blue in the face.

Blue Lives Matter is not, and has never been, about backing law enforcement and supporting cops.

It was always about denying black lives mattering. The BLM movement showed how corrupt and compromised law enforcement and that it is institutionally biased to treat blacks as less than human. They could kill blacks with immunity and impunity.

So, blue lives matter came into existence, complete with a defaced US flag. It quickly replaced the Confederate flag - and that’s exactly how we should be treating it. It’s the more acceptable Confederate flag, but what it represents is still just as odious. It represents and stands for fact that black lives do not matter and don’t get the protection under the law everyone else gets.

We saw that play out in the insurrection. From the way whites were able to storm the Capitol to being able to flow right through lines of law enforcement after doing so despite crimes committed, felonies engaged in, and a cop who would later die of his injuries and 60+ others injured in the melee.

Had that been a crowd of blacks, shots would have been fired before they got to the barriers. Tear gas would have been fired. National Guard and maximum response would have been present even before the march began to thwart marching on the Capitol. All of those measures weren’t in place because Trump and his collaborators deemed it to be.

The symbols and texts they appropriate, the flags they wave…none of them actually mean something specific, and the things they have broader cultural meaning are deliberately emptied of meaning. Almost everything they say they value is a motte, and the bailey it protects is their own entitlement as high-caste. Whether it’s words or their entire Christian theology, they convert everything into a justification for their unchecked use of power. This is the only thing that remains consistent with these people.

Policemen and the concept of policing do not exist independent of their assumption that they are protected but not bound by the law. Police brutality towards others is not just necessary, but virtuous…and it is right to enjoy that brutality because the police are their proxies for doing violence.

But the minute a cop attempts to apply the law to them, that cop is a tyrant.

Not pedanting: most of those symbols are used by Heathens who worship the Norse gods and are not white supremacists or Nazis. This has been a very long fight for them; please don’t assume anyone you see with a Thor’s hammer is a neo-nazi. Any more than you would a cross.

— Serendipity Falcon

I see a cross, I start looking for exits or cross the street. I cannot tell by looking which is merely a contemplative Christian simply looking to do good, and which would murder me if he could (and their 2,000 year history of that does not inspire me with confidence).

Same goes with Norse symbology (though I haven’t seen much of that).

My neo-Nazi neighbours are good Christian church-goin’ Bible believin’ folk.

She’s the one who broke into the grift circuit by carrying an AR-15 to her college graduation ceremony or some stunt like that. Thus was popular for the College Republicans to invite to speak at their places of higher learning.

My sons college repubs had her there to “talk”.

One of my oldest friends who is as devout a Trump supporter as any may have done that. He was trying to whatabout about the DC Riots by asking where I was during all the “burning and looting” by BLM and ANTIFA last summer. I told him that whatever happened last summer, DC was incited by the President of the United States, and he replied, “You’re wrong and I’m done with your bs.” I’m going to avoid contact with him as much as I can, lest things get worse. He’s a good man, but even good decent men can became brainwashed cultists.

Wrote Moore: “Wow we have more arrests for stealing a podium on January 6th than we do for stealing an election on November 3rd!”

“The man who has led the ‘Stop the Steal’ election protests nationally singles out Reps. Paul Gosar and Andy Biggs of Arizona for helping make Wednesday’s pro-Trump gathering in Washington happen,” the Arizona Republic reports.

“The social-media video, which is gaining newfound attention, was taped before the event turned into a riot at the U.S. Capitol that left five people dead, including a police officer.”

Also credited is Rep. Mo Brooks (R-AL).

That’s what is really behind a lot of the Trump supporters. Don’t like him personally at all and not slaves of the cult. But Trump was convenient and was taking things in a direction they liked. So they and their fellow travelers in the GOP will toss Trump in the dumpster and try to keep things on their preferred course towards continued keeping down of those they consider their lessers and freedom from being help responsible to the rule of law when it inconveniences themselves.
