He’d get away with it if they stormed any other building in the world. Storming their building and putting them in danger seems to kinda make it personal to them. Shame that is what it takes to get their attention but there ya go.

Statements like this secretly tell you what they really believe.

They COULD live their lives without these platforms perfectly fine…but that would involve a concession that there’s a space that they don’t have an entitlement to control.

It’s the same conceit that influences the mask protests: they specifically want to go into spaces they are unwelcome in and be served.

There’s a church building in my town that’s decorated with a bas-relief swastica, as well as a teutonic cross and other designs. It was built in 1906, and featured sun-symbols of many traditions.

Context is everything.

There are several businesses in downtown Scottsbluff with swastika mosaic tiles at the entrances of the stores. They were laid in the Teens and Twenties as Native symbology.

There was discussion over the years to remove them because of the obvious associations with WW2, but they are still there (with historic signs describing the context at the time).

In the Saints/Bears game, whoever is going onto the field with the camera after a score or during a timeout is shooting with their lens wide open and the depth of field is extremely shallow and is not focusing it accurately. The shallow DOF approach for this is not warranted. Go back to infinity DOF, please.

McNaughton:

What do you mean liberalism is a disease?
We have a disease. It’s infecting every aspect
of our society and its time we did something
about it.
Some of these people I really like and some
I don’t, but for the sake of our health, our
children, and our sanity, we need to take drastic
action quickly.
What if we could bring them all together, put
them on a desert island, and quarantine them,
for one hundred years?
They believe they have all the answers to
everything. But every liberal idea I’ve ever seen
has led to total failure. If they were right, their
new island home would be a utopia before long.
Let’s look at the most liberal communities in the
country. New York City, Detroit, Chicago…how
are they doing?
Yes, I say let’s quarantine them and let nature
take its course.

My wife has a Facebook account only to keep in touch with family, one of whom is raging that her raging support for the Raging Orange Roid is being silenced because everything she is posting is false and Facebook is blanking it out. My wife says the silence on her profile is beautiful to see. Crap…two people swept off the rocks in Pescadero today - about 15 miles south of me. We’ve been having some epic waves - swells have been around 18’ @ 20 seconds apart, which translates into 30-40 foot waves at Mavericks. I see people on the jetty when I’m walking Merle and they may be 20 feet back and 10 feet above, but when a swell comes through at the right angle, it washes over that thing in a wall of white foam like it’s not even there.
One person was rescued.

People are stupid when the water’s big. I took this pic on Jan 2 during the last big swell. See the people in the middle having an “Oh shit, that was close!” moment? The wave to the far left hit them all.

re: #115 Hecuba’s daughter

It looks like they started with the loudest.

“We are incredibly concerned about recent politically motivated incidents on board passenger aircraft,” read the release from the APFA president Julie Hedrick. “Regardless of one’s political beliefs, the cabin of a commercial aircraft must, out of necessity, be a calm environment for the safety of everyone onboard.”

The statements come after several altercations on flights to DC ahead of the gathering of the president’s most fervent supporters.

One video shared on Twitter showed Trump supporters yelling and arguing with other passengers aboard an American Airlines flight. In addition, Washington Post photographer Jabin Botsford posted video to Twitter of two passengers being removed from a flight to DC, and other videos showed pro-Trump supporters heckling Sen. Mitt Romney in the airport and on a flight.

re: #117 Rightwingconspirator

As individuals are identified they get put on the no fly list.

It makes sense that this would lead their actual arrest, since it takes time after identifying an individual to pinpoint where they’re at and get the paperwork in order, whereas adding them to the no-fly list is probably as simple as a phone call and some data entry.

Omaha play like Denver in the Superbowl. Ball snapped over the QB’s head and Cleveland recovered the ball in the end zone for a touchdown on Pittsburgh’s first offensive play.

Getting a RAID backup system tomorrow. Four drive bays.

When my main desktop Mac Pro died spectactularly I thought I was doing nightly image backups of the startup disk. Every time I checked the logs it seemed to be running fine, storing the backup on an external USB drive.

But when I set up the replacement Mac Pro, I discovered this backup had not actually completed normally since July of last year. I still don’t know exactly why this happened but I’ll find out.

What makes it worse is that this catastrophic hardware failure apparently happened when some disk operations were under way, or cached incompletely or something, because when I swapped the dead computer’s startup disk into the new machine it started up fine, but I quickly discovered that things were not really fine, and the files affected were the ones I had been working on when the meltdown occurred.

Anyway, I’ve managed to rebuild everything after a lot of work and head-scratching. The drives weren’t harmed, just some data corruption.

I really hate having backups that aren’t really backups. It’s happened to me more than once because of weird hardware crashes. But that’s why I’m going the RAID route now, so the backup can be an automatic virtual mirror image.

Of course, when the meteor hits all this will be meaningless anyway, but til then I’m backed up.

How did the airlines know which passengers had traveled to DC to participate in the failed coup and therefore should be barred for now from a return flight? It’s not as though you provide that information for travel within the United States.

I’m wondering if it’s the people who acted out and wouldn’t wear masks on the flights to DC. It’s like throwing up in the car of your designated driver on the way to the bar.

People who vote from ignorance are how we get things like Trump.

Most people who support Trump are educated — they are racists who like a white strong man leader or only care about their personal finances. You think the Republican members of the Senate and Congress (with the exceptions of Gohmert and Boebert) who support him are voting from ignorance? You think the very articulate Georgian officials who opposed Trump’s effort to steal Georgia, but who voted for him, are voting from ignorance? They know what they are getting and they love his policies. Education doesn’t give you morals or ethics, or persuade you that it’s better to pay more taxes to help society.

As others have mentioned, it was irritating to see GOP officials on the morning programs pretend that somehow Trump post election was different pre-election. He is exactly the same, orchestrating efforts to retain power. And Toomey, who did acknowledge Biden won, helped to support theories that the election was fraudulent by complaining about the Pennsylvania court decision on voting in this year of the pandemic. Not a single Republican can be trusted — except maybe Romney.

Germans didn’t lose their faith in Hitler until he was dead, they were defeated, and their nation was lying in rubble. They were fine with the evil he promoted and followed him wherever he led, except for the minorities who he reviled and killed, but the others didn’t care. I don’t see how the situation would be different for the 74 million who voted for Trump —what can be done to dissuade them from their mad worship of this sociopath.

Losing the Civil War didn’t reform Southerners because within 10 years they were given free rein to implement Jim Crow and deprive blacks of their citizenship. It took 90 years to correct this outrage. We don’t have 90 years to deprogram Trump supporters — we have 2 years to change their minds or this nation cannot survive.

Perhaps, and I’m just going to put this out there, if you kept your mouth shut (or keyboard un-typed upon) you wouldn’t need to worry about these things.

Browns go three and out. Steelers get the ball back at their own 38 with 1:30 left in the third and now only down by 12. This would be very Frown of them if they blew a 28-point lead.

By the thinking(?) of these asshats, I would have been required to publish every racist Letter to the Editor while at my newspaper. Doesn’t work that way, folks. Just because we were the public forum doesn’t mean you had the right to have your hatred aired to the masses. The same with political advertisements. We vetted ads to make sure we could not be sued for running them due to libel laws.

Twitter, Facebook, Instagram are not the government. Private enterprise does not have to allow people to spew vile shit.

Along the same lines, I recall a few years back when book banners would appear at Charlotte, NC, city council meetings and read lurid passages from certain pieces available at the public library. The council properly would not air these comments on live video, but would allow the comments to still be made at the public meeting. No one’s Constitutional rights were being violated.

Shit, after what Twitter has done to allow this insurrection to ferment, they should pay to provide 20,000 security guards for Biden’s inauguration.

The Vikings have been to the Super Bowl four times, all in the 70’s. They lost every time.

When I’m feeling guilty about spending a lot of money on a non-essential item, I think of how much money people I know spent on their Vikings season tickets and then I don’t feel guilty any more.

Buffalo- four consecutive SBs made with nothing to show for it. I was genuinely happy for their fans. I’m a Steelers fan but I’m also an Orioles fan in baseball so I know what it’s like to lose too. Hopefully Minnesota is another franchise that gets going on the right track.

Those were great teams in the 70’s, but they got tripped up by the Chiefs, and the Dolphins, Steelers, and Raiders were three of the greatest teams ever.

Watching them hasn’t been the same since they moved out of the Met. That was real football.

My ex delegate was apparently there. And Amanda Chase is becoming more nationally well known too I think. I think honestly the reason why I get so mad when people try to claim there’s no difference between the two parties is they have just no idea how much nutty shit in the Virginia GOP I’ve had to witness. My former State Senator wrote a letter to Assad ffs. Remember when Trump would freak out about the DNC supporting Andrew McCabe’s wife? Yeah about that. Dr. Jill McCabe was a great shot at finally getting the Dems in charge of the state legislature here. The State Senator also had expressed that he didn’t believe that spousal rape was possible. Also a world class homophobe and transphobe.

re: #128 Charles Johnson

Charles, RAID is not a backup. Everything that goes wrong on one disk, will go wrong on the parity/mirror/redundant disks. It’s useful for redundancy in the face of disk failure (and I’m not telling you it’s worthless, or not to get it), but what you really need is backup *software* that will save multi-layered, multiple days/weeks/months of backups onto that redundant disk target.

I don’t know the Mac world, at all. On PC, Veeam or Acronis (or maybe Backup Exec, though I haven’t seen it in a few years) will do the trick, giving you drive-image backup, good logging, and solid incremental/differential backups that can hold many layers of backup on one device.

You probably know this, but just in case you don’t, I wanted to put this out there. I’ve had to deal with a dozen different clients over the last 25 years who got sold RAID and figured that was all the backup they needed. (“Your sales dude said the second drive kept a copy of my data!” “Yeah, it’s a perfect mirror image of a corrupted drive.”) Not fun for anyone.

I swear by Macrium Reflect (unfortunately, it’s Windows-only).

Acronis True Image, I used to use before I went to Macrium Reflect a couple of years ago (when Acronis started dumbing down the UI and advanced options and also bloating up the software to do cloud backups and, now, antimalware); that is cross-platform, so that may be an option.

One backup is no backup. Two backups is a start. Three backups is getting somewhere, assuming one of those isn’t in the same geographical area of the primary system. The Cloudy-wouldy thingy-wingy can be your friend here.

RAID is not a backup. I’ve heard good things about Time Machine and that’s a core element of Macs but I don’t know the technicalities.
