Please note that we’re displaying embedded tweets differently now, to prevent crashing problems many people were having. When a comment with tweets first loads, the tweet will be shown as text-only. To show the fully rendered tweet, click the “Render Tweet” icon in the blue bar.

I fear Charles is right, so it will be up to the prosecutors to prevent Trump from making a comeback in 2024. He must be indicted, convicted and incarcerated for his crimes.

Re: Parler. Has Parler ever explained why they could throw Devin Nunes’ Cow off their platform but have no problems with users who spew racist, anti-Semitic, and insurrectionist propaganda? My SIL abandoned Twitter and migrated to Parler in November — describing it as a move Onward and Upward. I’m sure she is ranting on FB about what’s happening. My brother doesn’t do social media.

My guesses about why they did not attend the DC rally: they avoid superspreader events and, like many in my our age range, they don’t want to be standing outside for hours — we all need back support.

Charles, thanks for fixing the crashing issue for us iPhone people. I mostly use my phone these days, since I got a desktop instead of a laptop, and having LGF not work for me was a bit of a pain. I also missed a ton of conversations, and all that goes with that. So thanks for working on those little and big things that make this place work.

Here’s one.

It is becoming more and more obvious that the GOP’s feigned outrage about last week’s attempted coup isn’t because there was because the Capitol was attacked.

They are only sad that the insurrection wasn’t successful, and that Democratic congressmen were not systematically murdered.

Strange. I see no difference. Clicking on it recycles the tweet, then it displays exactly as it did before.

The unchecked “show embedded tweets” makes no difference on my computer.

Are these things only for cell phones? (I don’t have troubles with long displays of comments.)

Here’s one.

Was he quoting Pelosi, I know that has been pretty popular the past couple of days, quoting democrats like Waters and Booker for telling people to get in the faces of elected republicans and Trump admin officials, and that is almost a word for word quote from Pelosi when she was talking about migrant detention:

“I just don’t even know why there aren’t uprisings all over the country. And maybe there will be, when people realize that this is a policy that they defend,”

re: #257 NO SMOCKING GUN!

My paternal grandparents had 15 children, who have all passed now. The last one, Aunt Nellie, passed away in 2019. I have tons of cousins.

My grandparents (both sides) had two children. My mother had two before my father was killed.

My maternal uncle and his wife had five children before he was killed; she had a sixth child with her second husband before she died.

One cousin has no children, the others have one to three.

My sister has no children; I have one adult son.

Debunking once again that bulkshit claim by some right wingers that this was a “false flag” op. Nope. It’s all Trumpists and MAGA and goddamned Nazis and right wing domestic terrorists.

Van Drew is a lunatic who thinks supporting armed insurrection is okay? This wasn’t merely supporting Trump. This was Trump inciting his followers to storm the Capitol, overthrow the government and install Trump as leader ignoring the election results.

Fuck the GOP and every last one of these treasonweasels with a rusty pitchfork sideways.

So has anyone suggested that their refusal to acknowledge that Biden legitimately won the election is a impenetrable stumbling block to any hope of unity? Anyone who voted to decertify Biden electors has no business speaking on the floor. They can rant on Twitter since they still have access to that platform.

BeachDem  Jan 13, 2021 • 10:37:06am

All of this right-wing whining about Twitter produced a Deja Vu moment for me last night, and I dug out a post I wrote for another blog in 2013. Remember the TGDN (Twitter Gulag Defense Network) and the major whining that went on? Actually, I should thank them for making me take another look at LGF, once I realized it was no longer “Little Freep Greenballs.” (The TGDN “warriors” seemed to place a lot of blame for their hardships on Charles.)

Here’s a little section of that post. I should point out that, if they decide to revive this group, they’ll have to find a new leader as I haven’t seen anything about Todd Kincannon since he called for the execution of Ebola patients, threatened his wife, had his law license revoked and, oh murdered a dog while proclaiming himself the second coming of Christ.

The Ghost of a Flea  Jan 13, 2021 • 10:37:44am

In the thirty years I’ve been watching US politics has the American right never slowed or mitigated it’s position that the center and the left are both fundamentally unserious and an existential threat. At critical points where such outreach was possible—such as 9/11—they opted to leverage shared tragedies to further emphasize how anyone that questioned their ideology or methods was dangerous and/or dumb.

The kindest reading I can give of rightist discourse is that the “reasonable” conservatives simply go cognitively-dissonant rather than acknowledge that the “unreasonable” conservatives they break bread with are constantly engaged in duckspeak.

…but after repeated rounds of them “discovering” the cultural forces that provide their voting base and simply doing more doublethink, there’s no reason to think even that this time will be different, even as they insist they’re acting out of some kind of principle.

Sanford Florida…. which is historically known as a hotbed of white supremacist and racism. That’s a legacy that goes back decades, even before Trayvon Martin was murdered. It goes back to the founding of the locality and its hostile merger with a neighboring town that was predominantly African American dispossessing those folks of their jobs and positions in one fell swoop. It got worse from there.

We’re focusing so much on parsing the President’s words before the attack that we’re forgetting the fact that the President also refused to send help and reportedly enjoyed the show on TV.

He told protestors (before they turned into a mob storming the Capitol) “I’ll be with you!”

What a bloviating coward. He knew that he was not about to go along even if he physically could make it up the Capitol steps…

I wouldn’t necessarily say it was cowardice. I truly believe that he wanted to go, and would have if he had been given a choice. I am convinced that he was strong-armed, perhaps literally (by agents of the Secret Service), into going back to the White House instead.

…Williams appeared to film himself boasting as he joined hundreds of extremists who stormed the Capitol while Congress was confirming President-elect Joe Biden’s victory.

“How are they going to arrest every single person?” the man filming the videos, whose appearance and attire matched a photo of Williams that surfaced a earlier last week, said in one of the clips.

They feel the same way about insurrection as they do about the pandemic.

I think he’s a coward, both in that he wouldn’t put himself in physical harm and he wouldn’t ever put himself out there to accept blame.

Every time he does firey rhetoric he includes the perfunctory disavowal.

He did know it beforehand; this has been publicized. He said it, I think, to officially put his seal of approval on the whole goings-on and to assure them that he is with them. I think, because he is a fucking moron, he didn’t think through the ramifications of, “If I don’t go with them and this whole thing falls flat, people might be upset at me for not showing up when I said I would.”

MLK, Jr. is another power source as his name was invoked to support the GOP’s armed insurrection to overthrow the government.

Mind you, the white supremacists considered MLK and other civil rights figures enemies of the state for daring to seek equality - let alone reparations for the generations of harm they suffered thanks to institutionalized racism, slavery, and all that comes with it.

Now, they’re invoking his name to support the overthrow of the government to keep a thoroughly corrupt and compromised treasonweasel in power.

Unity hell.

The wild fire isn’t even under control yet
In fact it’s totally out of control if their own words are to be believed

You want unity?
First put the fire out
Then determine who was responsible and who made it worse
Add in who wouldn’t let us fight the fire to put it out
Let them admit and take responsibility (critical!)
Prosecute fairly and administer equal justice
No pardons or leniency. And no retribution or revenge either.

Then we can start to talk about unity and reconciliation

This “pretend it never happened cause theyll get madder” bullshit is…bullshit.

The Booger Eaters are doubling down.

Secret Service Warns the Boogaloos Are Coming to D.C., States

The Secret Service has issued an intelligence bulletin warning of additional armed protests in Washington before and after the inauguration of President-elect Joe Biden—particularly from the Boogaloo Boys—that in some cases it expects to become violent.

The Secret Service bulletin, dated Jan. 11, is unclassified but marked not for distribution outside law-enforcement channels, and was obtained by The Daily Beast. The Daily Beast is declining to give specifics for these rallies to prevent insurrectionists from organizing through the media.

Just remember folks, the Republicans say these motherfuckers are peaceful protesters!

It has to include the steps to undermine the security at the Capitol, the refusal to send troops and FBI and security to Capitol after Capitol Police was overrun and the VP’s life was threatened.

It has to include the months of inciting his base to ignore the results of the election with nonstop lies. It has to go back to 2017 when Trump said openly he wouldn’t accept the results of any election he lost.

Anyone know how many non-white Republican Representatives there are in the House?

I found a list.

Minorities, veterans and retiring members

Total Black members in the House and Senate: 61

House: 58 (56 Democrats, 2 Republicans)

Newly elected: 8 (6 Democrats, 2 Republicans)

Reelected incumbents: 50 (50 Democrats, 0 Republicans)

Senate: 3 (2 Democrats, 1 Republican) (will decrease to 2 when Padilla replaces Harris)

Reelected incumbent: 1 (1 Democrat)

No election: 2 (1 Democrat, 1 Republican)

The 117th Congress will have the largest number of Black members in the history of the House and in the history of Congress. The 58 representatives are a new record for the House, while the record-high three in the Senate remains the same, at least until Harris resigns to become vice president.

Total Latino members in the House and Senate: 44

House: 39 (30 Democrats, 9 Republicans)

Newly elected House: 6 (2 Democrats, 4 Republicans)

Reelected House incumbents: 33 (28 Democrats, 5 Republicans)

Senate: 5 (3 Democrats, 2 Republicans) (will increase to 6 when Padilla replaces Harris)

Newly elected Senate: 1 (1 Democrat)

No election: 4 (2 Democrats, 2 Republicans)

The 44 Latino members of Congress will be the most ever, according to NALEO. There will also be the most ever Latino senators. Latino House membership will match the current record high. The overall record total in Congress will increase to 45 when Padilla replaces Harris.

Total LGBTQ members in the House and Senate: 11

House: 9 (9 Democrats, 0 Republican)

Newly elected: 2 (2 Democrats, 0 Republican)

Reelected incumbents: 7 (7 Democrats, 0 Republican)

Senate: 2 (2 Democrats, 0 Republican)

No election: 2 (2 Democrats)

According to LGBTQ Victory Institute, this will be the most people who identify as LGBTQ to ever serve in the House and the most to ever serve in Congress.

FBI arrests Jenny Cudd, Eliel Rosa for rioting at Capitol

CBS7 has learned the FBI has arrested Midlanders Jenny Cudd and Eliel Rosa for rioting at the Capitol last Wednesday.

Both Cudd and Rosa are scheduled to appear before U.S. Magistrate Judge Ronald Griffin at 1:45 p.m. today.

After the riot, Cudd posted about it on her Facebook page, bragging that “we” tore down the doors to Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s office.

She later backed that statement up, saying that she was referring to the group as a whole. She claimed she didn’t vandalize anything in the building.

“It was just my gang as a whole. I didn’t give the note to the teller or take the money myself at all.”

Yes. I know. Fred Keller is a low life Corbett ass sucking lamprey, and he’s one of my “representatives.”
Back when he was a stooge for Corbett, I happened to be sitting in my former barbers shop, and everyone was just tingling because a Corbett flunky was there.
I called him out on the lack of taxing the frackers.
Got heated. Noticed most of the waiting customers were not with me.
“Well if we tax them they’ll go elsewhere.”
Like where Biff? Every state but ours taxes them for the public good.
We had an “impact fee” to the counties they fracked from, but no tax dollars for the counties surrounding the fields, who had illegal dumping, water and well issues, and destruction of land and wildlife.
And Corbett made large through 2nd and 3rd party “donations”.

Similar logic with Black members, Latino or Jewish members holding office or in power positions despite the repeated cancerous racist language and policies typical amongst Republican elected officials and their supporters. He brought the doom on himself by winning the presidency and thereby exposing himself to eventual real investigation of his taxes. He had to continue fighting to shield himself from the wrath of James and New York tax authorities. Let’s never forget that Al Capone did not serve a day for the dozens of murders he ordered — but rather for tax evasion.

If he self-pardons, federal tax authorities should swoop down on him and the Garland justice department should arrest him anyway and not accept self pardon as legitimate. SCOTUS needs to decide exactly the limitations of this power.

I don’t expect any of them to act to put nation above party. If they do, I’ll be surprised. After all, these are the same treasonweasel enablers who refused to remove Trump for extortion and crimes in the Ukraine matter and Collins said that the impeachment alone was sufficient to chasten Trump.

These are the enablers of the most corrupt and criminal admin in history, and even when their own lives were risked by Trump, they stand by and cover for him. Stockholm Syndrome? Genuine fear of the Trumpist/GOP base that they’ve radicalized for 40+ years thanks to Fox and right wing talk radio and online shitposters and the misinformation tsunami that propaganda they’ve done?
