Please note that we’re displaying embedded tweets differently now, to prevent crashing problems many people were having. When a comment with tweets first loads, the tweet will be shown as text-only. To show the fully rendered tweet, click the “Render Tweet” icon in the blue bar.

There is a checkbox at the top to load all automatically.

You can reload a specific comment to load that tweet.

I click the comment number to open the comment on a new tab. Then a quick swipe to return.

Not loading them automatically keeps there page from crashing once a thread gets too long.

Welp—the local Repubs are NOT happy with Congressman Rice’s yes vote:

Shannon Grady, incoming president of the Horry County Republican Women’s Caucus, called the move “political suicide” and said she lost all respect for Rice, who she previously supported. She said she will work to ensure he doesn’t serve another term, adding that she even supports recalling him.

“I don’t know if he had a lapse of judgment or slipped into a coma, … but he has ruined his political career in Horry County; he is done,” she said.

OK, after reading my seditious Congressman’s Facebook and all the comments made by his (Andy Biggs’) fan club about Donald Trump, I have come to the conclusion that I really need to just crank up the rhetoric when dealing with Trump followers.

In short, and I quote from one response on Biggs’ Facebook:

You need to stop worshiping Donald Trump. He is an antichrist.

In short, I’m going to bring out the heavy guns of religious language and refer to Donald Trump as an antichrist if I deal with someone who essentially worships him. And I’m going to add it to my picketing repertoire. Yeah, yelling “Donald Trump is an antichrist” at a parking lot of Trump worshipers is dicey. But, they worship this guy. They think he’s God’s man for the hour, God’s Cyrus, God’s anointed one…I should collect all the things these people say about Trump. It’s mindboggling. Just even thinking of someone calling a Democratic president any of those things is crazy. Democrats are far more likely to pick at our elected leaders, not worship them.

I’m going to stick to the standard Donald Trump is a con man, Mafia thug, criminal for secular interactions.

From the Guardian:

Jack Dorsey, the chief executive of Twitter, has said that banning Donald Trump from the platform was the “right decision” but that it sets a dangerous precedent.

Speaking out for the first time since the social network took the remarkable step of permanently suspending the president’s account following a violent attack on the US Capitol, Dorsey said the company faced “an extraordinary and untenable circumstance, forcing us to focus all of our actions on public safety”.

“I do not celebrate or feel pride in our having to ban @realDonaldTrump from Twitter, or how we got here,” Dorsey admitted on Wednesday in an extended Twitter thread. “I feel a ban is a failure of ours, ultimately, to promote healthy conversation. And a time for us to reflect on our operations and the environment around us.”

Dorsey said that it was the right decision for the company but that such actions “fragment the public conversation”.

I just posted this on Facebook:

Dear conservative friends and acquaintances,

The Republican party is currently being dominated by people that tried to overthrow our government.

I can already hear the thoughts popping into people’s head, so, before we talk about that, though, there are a few things we have to get out of the way:

1. Let’s skip the “What about…?” We have to deal with the fact that a group of people supporting the Republican party, and Donald Trump in particular, attempted to stop the counting of the electoral college vote, and were hoping to take Congresspeople hostage. They built a gallows.

2. No, Antifa was not involved, no matter how much Fox wants to tell you otherwise (one of the insurrectionists is actually pissed that people keep saying he’s Antifa). The DOJ stated on Friday that they weren’t, but you will also notice that all of the people showing up in the news had extensive backgrounds supporting Trump.

3. No, the vote was not rigged or compromised. The close states all checked did recounts and verified their totals. In addition, Alyssa Farah, who was the White House communications director until December 4th, admitted that the White House was lying about election fraud.

4. No, this is not like BLM protests. The looting was wrong, but at no time did the activists attempt to overthrow the government. Their calls for changes to the government were calls for action by elected officials.

5. This not meant to be a discussion of the difference in the parties. Members of the Republican party attempted to overthrow the government on the 6th and we have to deal with that.

6. No, I don’t think all of you wanted an insurrection. If I did, this would be pointless since I wouldn’t believe there would be any chance of fixing what is going on.

On Wednesday, January 6th, Donald Trump spoke at a rally funded by his campaign committee - he helped pick out the music, and the banners were from his committee - to a group of supporters. This rally had been planned since December. A large fraction of the people showed up to do more than just be at a rally. After Trump told them to follow him to Capitol Hill (he got in his car and didn’t lead them), they broke into the Capitol Building, not only disrupting the vote, but so much more.

Because of his words, and the actions of those in the insurrection, six people are dead. Four of them were insurrectionists, but two of them were Capitol police. One of them was beaten so badly he died in the hospital. The other, the son of a former Sergeant at arms for the House, took his own life on Sunday.

But the support and enticement went beyond Trump. Someone gave some of the insurrectionists information that wasn’t available to the public, including interior maps to the Capitol building. Representative Clyburn’s third floor unlabeled office was ransacked, while his first floor labeled office was left alone. There were computers used for accessing a classified military network stolen. One of the new elected representatives, Lauren Boebert, live-tweeted the location of the Speaker of the House, even though the Sergeant of the House told them not to in order to protect everyone.

But the administrations actions draw the most scrutiny. It took almost ninety minutes from the time the insurrection started before the administration would allow the National Guard to appear, and that was only after an aid to McConnell got in touch with the administration and told them people would die if they didn’t. During all of this, Trump was calling Republicans, such as Senator Lee of Utah, asking them to vote against the certification. During all of this, all he could think about was staying in power.

When I mentioned that the Republican party is being dominated by people that want to overthrow our government, I didn’t just mean elected officials. One particular video shows a line of men from the Oath Keepers, a white supremacist militia, working their way up through the crowd. Not only does the group have the kind of gear you would see on an infantry soldier, they had radios. In addition, there were KKK members and neo-Nazis. There was a guy running around with a Confederate flag in the Capitol. There were also off-duty police and soldiers participated; they were flashing badges to try to get the Capitol police to let them in.

It would be nice to think that the 6th is all they are planning, but they are not done. On the sixth, the gate to the Washington State governor’s mansion was torn down. On Saturday, several dozen armed men carrying zip-ties surrounded the Kentucky State capitol building. They were planning on acting at all of the state capitols on the 17th until it became news. Because of the threats on inauguration day, the National Guard is now sleeping in the Capitol building.

We have to punish those who attempted to overthrow the government, from the people who stormed the Capitol, to those in government that incited and actively helped them. That’s the only way to keep it from happening again. But, instead of that, Republicans are calling for unity. These aren’t people that care about democracy. They are exactly the type of people that would have told us to don’t worry, but just go along with the new government had it been taken over. Some of them are exactly the people that helped the insurrectionists, and they need to be removed from office and charged with what they attempted to do.

There are people in your party willing to destroy our government to stay in power. They have aligned themselves with white supremacists, Nazis, and Klansmen. And they may succeed next time. History indicates that it could happen. Both Hitler and Hugo Chavez failed their first time round, but were ultimately able to work their way into government and take it over.

I don’t know if you saw the announcement Tuesday from the Joint Chiefs of Staff about the inauguration, but that is actually scary. There is no reason that the military should be involved, except for when those in the government refuse to properly defend the constitution, especially the president. When we are left with that, all it takes is corrupting the top of the chain of command and there is nothing citizens can do to stop them.

You are going to have to figure out what to do about your party. These people are in power because you voted for them. You decided that being with white supremacists was ok, that voting with Nazis was ok (Nazis have run for your party’s nomination, though they have failed). And that has led to people who believe they are allowed to do anything to stay in power. I can’t tell you how to fix your party. The one thing I can tell you is that the news sources many of you rely on have been lying to you. And you can tell by comparing what they say to what is actually happening around you.

In the short term, lots of people are going to be arrested. Some Congresspeople will be investigated. It is going to look like everyone is going after the Republican party. Don’t fall for it when your favorite news program attempts to say Democrats are trying to destroy Republicans. They are not. We actually believe that there needs to be two parties competing for ideas. But your party has a cancer. It is infested with authoritarians who will tear down our government in order to maintain their power, who cannot fathom the idea of giving equal consideration to minorities and others not like them.

What would you have done if they had won?

Democracy is not always an easy process - imagine how it felt to have your candidate win the popular vote and lose in the electoral college - but it’s far better than an authoritarian government. We can’t fix it unless everyone is clear eyed about what is happening, those who attempt to destroy it are brought to justice, and those who we elect to represent aren’t trying to subvert it.

You love to see it:

President Donald Trump, irritated at being impeached for a second time, has told people to stop paying Rudy Giuliani’s legal fees, a person familiar with the matter tells CNN, though aides were not clear if the President was serious about his instructions given he’s lashing out at nearly everyone after the day’s events.

Trump became the first president in US history to be impeached twice on Wednesday, one week after a mob stormed the US Capitol following a speech by the President that excoriated his supporters to fight against the counting of the electoral votes that would affirm President-elect Joe Biden’s win. The insurrection left five people dead, including one Capitol Police officer, and has left the nation’s capital and state capitols around the country preparing for potential violence as Biden is set to be inaugurated next week.

Trump has been blaming his longtime personal attorney and many others for the predicament he now finds himself in, though he has not accepted any responsibility in public or in private, people familiar with his reaction told CNN. Giuliani is still expected to play a role in Trump’s impeachment defense but has been left out of most conversations thus far.

>>With Giuliani at the January 6 rally, Eastman also spoke, promoting the lie that the election was fraudulent.

America’s Mayor, wonderful. Hello America. Sorry I had to say that. Look, we’ve got petitions pending before the Supreme Court that identify it chapter and verse, the number of times state election officials ignored or violated the state law in order to put Vice President Biden over the finish line. We know there was fraud, traditional fraud that occurred. We know that dead people voted. But we now know because we caught it live last time in real time, how the machines contributed to that fraud.

And let me as simply as I can explain it; you know the old way was to have a bunch of ballots sitting in a box under the floor and when you needed more, you pulled them out in the dark of night. They put those ballots in a secret folder in the machines. Sitting there waiting until they know how many they need. And then the machine, after the close of polls, we now know who’s voted, and we know who hasn’t. And I can now, in that machine, match those unvoted ballots with an unvoted voter and put them together in the machine.

And how do we know that happened last night in real time? You saw when it got to 99% of the vote total and then it stopped. The percentage stopped, but the votes didn’t stop. What happened, and you don’t see this on Fox or any of the other stations, but the data shows that the denominator, how many ballots remain to be counted, how else do you figure out the percentage that you have, how many remain to be counted, that number started moving up. That means they were unloading the ballots from that secret folder, matching them to the unvoted voter, and voila, we have enough votes to barely get over the finish line.

We saw it happen in real time last night, and it happened on November 3rd as well. And all we are demanding of Vice President Pence is this afternoon at 1:00 he let the legislators of the state look into this so we get to the bottom of it, and the American people know whether we have control of the direction of our government, or not.

We no longer live in a self governing republic if we can’t get the answer to this question. This is bigger than President Trump. It is a very essence of our republican form of government, and it has to be done. And anybody that is not willing to stand up to do it, does not deserve to be in the office. It is that simple.

From herd mentality to herd immunity

Past Covid-19 infection may provide ‘months of immunity’

Most people who have had Covid-19 are protected from catching it again for at least five months, a study led by Public Health England shows.

Past infection was linked to an 83% lower risk of getting the virus, compared with those who had never had Covid-19, scientists found

But experts warn some people do catch Covid-19 again - and can infect others.

But what does “cut ties” really mean?

Are they calling in all their loans?

And the real thing about big business and banks is that banks usually form teams of lenders for major projects.

Trump has bankrupted companies, leaving creditors hanging. But banks still lent him money afterwards.

So what if Trump can’t borrow some money from a bank here or there. If he can’t make a payment he’ll just have whatever shell company declare bankruptcy and all will be forgiven.

So I’m not giving any of these corporations any credit. They are just doing public relations stunts.

104
Love-Child of Cassandra and Sisyphus  Jan 14, 2021 • 1:15:38am

Make no mistake - all that has happened in a week after the insurrection is that a few, and I do mean a few, middle-of-the-road politicians and orgs have figured out that they can’t continue with the Republican party as it is now.

But as we saw with the impeachment vote, most Republicans are fine with Trump.

And, I’ve seen no evidence that the masses of Trump voters have regrets.

Sure, a handful of the biggest information tech companies finally found a reason to also do some brand rehabilitation and make big noise about banning terrorist groups that they should have banned long ago.

Here’s how companies really can take a stand:

1) air services companies can refuse to lease Trump planes and crews;
2) Commercial airlines can put all Trump Org employees on no-fly lists;
3) Property management companies can refuse to service Trump properties, because of the real risk of violence and culpability;
4) and most of all, every financial org that deals with Trump should sue Trump personally for negligence or malfeasance because Trump’s actions surely puts at high risk the viability of Trump’s companies.

Hence the whisper campaign going around now that more House Repubs would have voted for impeachment if not for threats made against them and their families. In a year, you won’t find a Repub willing to admit that he ever supported Trump, but they’ll all have excuses for why they went along with the worst aspects of his presidency.

Some ammo. Also, you have more than one Christian preacher that thinks Donnie is an Antichrist candidate, could give you ideas about passages if you read them.

This is something that we here in the wild north country have been slowly improving for years. When the ground is frozen for 4-5 months of the year, below-ground infrastructure upgrades go quite a bit slower than in other places in this country. I have had one power outage that lasted longer than an hour in the last about 4 years.

As I recall, GoT doesn’t even take place on this planet.

George has stated he based the Game of Thrones storyline on the Wars of the Roses, the Plantagents versus the Tudors which was as devious, traitorous and backstabbing a time as was portrayed in his books and, to a lesser extent, on screen. Even the Wall was there in the form of the Border marches held against the ravening Scots, the foreign threats of the French and Spanish kings across the seas, the Queens conniving and manipulating behind the scenes, spymasters and mercenary captains and a whole bunch of minor nobles and out-of-favour second sons who tried to stay alive by any means necessary.

Still, it will take them to 2022 to get to the 60% vaccinated level.

The scale of the vaccination effort worldwide has to be huge.

SARS-Cov-2 has proven to be nasty. Not as much as the earlier MERS, but still a pretty bad virus for humans.

What I fear is a new mutation that might bring back the MERS fears. In that variation of a coronavirus, the death rate was much higher.

The know-nothings who dismiss COVID-19 have not clue about the danger of having 7 billion incubators on the planet.

And even with a vaccine, it can still be spread (virons go in, then get blown back out, even if they don’t infect you). There’s going to be a whole bunch of people who think they’re safe and don’t have to do things like keep distant or wear masks.

While I am scheduled for my first vaccine Monday in Cheyenne, I’m truly fearful for my wife. (I have no idea about Illinois’s plans, so I don’t know if my mother can get one soon or not.)

I suspect that they are still combing through the CCTV footage from the day of the insurrection and that is the higher priority. They do need to investigate every angle, including the allegations that there were members of Congress who gave tours to private groups into areas of the Capitol that were out of the ordinary. After all, there were reports that Clyburn’s office was targeted and it’s in an out of the way space on the 3d floor.

In other words, those who engaged in the insurrection had a good idea of where to go in the building. Some of this is public knowledge around the building design, but other parts as to specific offices is too specific to be coincidence.

They’re worried about being called RINOs or worse if they vote to impeach/remove.
They’re worried their GOP constituents will murder them or their families if they vote to impeach or remove.
They’re worried that they can’t do the right thing for the nation because the very radicalized GOP base will attack them for doing the right thing.

That’s how fucked up the GOP is. They’ve radicalized their way into a fascist party with decades of misinformation and these same politicians lying to them nonstop for years, including from Trump on down about a stolen election.

The election was not stolen. Trump lost in a landslide.

What Trump was doing was trying to steal the election, overthrow the government and remain in power indefinitely. That was the outcome sought last Wednesday and it was sheer dumb luck that the coup failed.

The wind here has been calm for a couple hours now, though we are still under a high wind warning until noon on Friday.

I suppose if I was to look up into the sky I would see a giant red L over my house, being in the middle of the low pressure cell.

Inspection reveals no damage I can see from last night’s hailstorm (other than some paint chipped from the northern walls of my house).

The consummate Bassist has died. RIP Tim Boger

t.

Eulogy by Warren Hanes:
RIP TIM BOGERT
When Gov’t Mule formed in 1994, as a side project to the Allman Brothers Band, we could have chosen a direction based on any of our many influences, after all our intent was to only make one album. But, as most of you know, the impetus came from a conversation on the tour bus between myself and Allen Woody while listening to Hendrix or Cream (still can’t remember which) when Woody brought up the fact that, at that time, ‘nobody was doing ‘that’ anymore’. By ‘that’ he meant exploring the art of the “power trio” which is not the greatest descriptive term for a rock trio that bases its’ style around improvisation but one that seems to have stuck through the years nonetheless. Part of the conversation as well was the absence in rock music at that time, of the “dirty bass” sound that we all grew up with. We agreed during this meandering of the minds that most of our favorite music—and not just rock music—was driven by a bass sound that varied between “somewhat dirty” and “very dirty”. We went on to surmise and opine that as the bass sound in rock music got cleaner and cleaner (starting somewhere in the mid to late seventies) the bass player’s role became less important and the music became more and more sterile. Coincidence? I think not. Think about it: the bass on early soul records had a nastiness to it. Paul McCartney’s bass sound in the Beatles was beautifully distorted. John Entwistle’s sound in the Who was a uniquely dirty sound all its’ own that drove that music. But then some people would take it even further. Bassists like Jack Bruce of Cream, Chris Squire of Yes, and Felix Pappalardi of Mountain come to mind. And again not just in rock music. Bootsy Collins and Larry Graham were going full-tilt fuzz bass in the funk scene as well. And then we heard Tim Bogert. Tim Bogert’s bass sound (and style for that matter) was “very dirty”— and BADASS! One of the many topics of this aforementioned rambling discussion on the tour bus was about how a great musician’s sound not only reflects his or her personality but also gives him or her freedom to be themselves and explore at will. Speaking of bass players specifically, having a massive sonic presence that rivals the guitar and the drums allows, if not inspires, the bass player to take a much more aggressive role which can add creative and exciting depth and dimensions to any music and is mandatory in a “power trio”. Take any of the aforementioned bands and imagine the songs—especially the jams—with a less explosive bass sound and bass player. The music would pale in comparison. As a guitar player who’s been fortunate to have played with more than my share of bassists that fall into this category (one of which was Tim Bogert) I know first-hand that what you’re capable of as a soloist depends largely on who you’re playing with. Having played over 1200 shows with Allen Woody, I can testify to the fact that his ability and instinct to push me as a soloist was based on a philosophy and style he developed from countless hours listening to his heroes—one of which (along with everybody mentioned earlier) was Tim Bogert. The way Tim played with Carmine Appice created an energy that the soloist had no choice but to engage—be it Jeff Beck or Jim McCarty, or whoever. In Beck, Bogert, and Appice the guitar solos were three way conversations between Jeff, Tim, and Carmine where what each member played was inspired by whatever the others were playing. In Cactus, Jim McCarty could soar over the top of this borderline chaotic rhythm section and do what he does best—sing through his guitar, holding notes as long as he wants, knowing there would always be something exciting going on beneath him— a similar luxury to the one Eric Clapton had in Cream with Jack Bruce and Ginger Baker. Tim Bogert was a giant among bass players and I will argue that he never got the credit he deserved but his contribution to rock music is undeniable. His influence will be felt for decades to come.”-WH

By this weekend, we will see more than 400,000 dead Americans from covid19 according to Worldometers. JHU is a few days behind that figure. Either way, 400,000 Americans are dead thanks to Trump’s disastrous covid19 response.

Only now is the FAA imposing new penalties for those disrupting flights, including those who aren’t masking despite requirements to do so.

It took months for the FAA to get to this step. Trump never mandated masking on flights. He never instituted rigorous screening. He took no steps to stop the spread of covid in the US itself. None. The result is a massive death toll and it will only keep climbing even as the vaccine rollout begins in earnest.

This is a thing you don’t do around here. While we have several major tech firms in the area, the overall tech community is really rather small; people wind up rotating around between companies quite frequently. It’s a quick way to get yourself blacklisted if you pull shenanigans like this.

In the state of Wisconsin, the minimum legal drinking age is 21 years old. But tucked away inside the alcohol laws of the state is an exception to that rule, which may surprise many. Which allows anyone, of any age under 21, to drink alcohol in a bar or restaurant - under certain situations.

“It’s a law that’s out there, that not many people are aware of or even realize or it is misinterpreted and not really clear on what that law even means,” said Capt. Dan Sandberg of the Brown County Sheriff’s Office.

According to the Department of Revenue, under Chapter 125 of the Wisconsin Statutes, “An underage person accompanied by a parent, guardian, or spouse of legal drinking age may be sold or served alcohol beverages in any licensed premises.”

Like men attacking women or Christians attacking atheists, it only takes one to have a really bad day.

The whole phrase is “One bad apple spoils the whole bunch.” When any cop from any force sees a white supremacist on his or her force do something and doesn’t say something, what does that make them?

What The FUCK?

Jared & Ivanka’s $3,000 TOILET BILLING????

washingtonpost.com

Many U.S. Secret Service agents have stood guard in Washington’s elite Kalorama neighborhood, home over the years to Cabinet secretaries and former presidents. Those agents have had to worry about death threats, secure perimeters and suspicious strangers. But with the arrival of Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner, they had a new worry: finding a toilet.

Instructed not to use any of the half-dozen bathrooms inside the couple’s house, the Secret Service detail assigned to President Trump’s daughter and son-in-law spent months searching for a reliable restroom to use on the job, according to neighbors and law enforcement officials. After resorting to a porta-potty, as well as bathrooms at the nearby home of former president Barack Obama and the not-so-nearby residence of Vice President Pence, the agents finally found a toilet to call their own.

But it came at a cost to U.S. taxpayers. Since September 2017, the federal government has been spending $3,000 a month — more than $100,000 to date — to rent a basement studio, with a bathroom, from a neighbor of the Kushner family.

It’s a quick way to get yourself blacklisted if you pull shenanigans like this.

The software I work on has a very small community of practitioners these days; back in the 1980s you could easily go between banks as a contractor for $80/hr as so many of them used that code. Now, with the market having shrunk due to mergers and acquisitions, the contract rate isn’t as big.

Wisconsin’s confusing law when it comes to underage drinking (CBS Green Bay)

Democrats have tried overturning this, but the GOP gerrymandered legislature stands in the way.

Even many Democrats are against overturning it. It is very much a part of Wisconsin culturally - German and English families at the pub together, Italian or even French immigrant families having wine together at a restaurant - and memories of their own times with family at the bars in small town WI which often are the only place for everyone to hang out together. Bar owners are not legally required to allow the minors to consume but I can’t remember the last time I saw one that didn’t.

Of course it can lead to humor such as the time we attended a wedding in Chicago and my then 17 year old nephew there with his parents tried to get served and got a long rant from the bar tender about how this “wasn’t Wisconsin”.

Upset by veterans who stormed the Capitol, these vets decided to clean up trash the mob left on the streets of D.C. (Washington Post)

The group removed mountains of trash, racist and Nazi symbology, and hateful Trump and conservative propaganda.

A feel-good story about veterans for today. Mr. David Smith was on the streets delivering hand warmers to homeless people when the insurrection started. He runs an organisation in DC which encourages military veterans to help with public service.

That’s not just here. We had a long discussion on it over at cameraderie.org about it. I have it happen constantly with my Android phone but not with the photos I take with my Nikon and process via Capture One. There appears to be something non-standard in the way some phones in general process the orientation - but not all of them.

The only solution anyone has come up with is to open the file in photoshop/gimp/etc, rotate the image, save, rotate back, save and quit. It will then upload correctly for me at most places.

Actually I have found that doing a slight crop on the image will result in it loading correctly.

Any manipulation - it wipes out the rotation attribute that iOS sets on the photo. It’s been a long-known sticking point with iOS devices; I had to explicitly work around it when working with photo data on an iPad app I wrote years ago.

Same thing I’m betting - what’s really happening is the new exif data is getting written out at the save and that’s wiping out the non-standard problem info.

Nope, can’t be a problem in the upload code, it doesn’t do any processing of images that would result in this. If the image is rotated, it’s because that’s how it was uploaded.

I don’t know any way to fix this automatically. There’s no way for my code to know that an image is rotated - it’s just a bunch of bits and bytes.

As you have pointed out, having a usable forum for debate requires curation to remove trolls, whether they are racists, misogynists, and particularly Nazis. “Free speech” doesn’t serve Democratic governance if you use it as an excuse to allow fascists, especially violent terrorists, to run wild. What social media is finally doing now should’ve been done years ago, as you and others long pointed out.

Eric Garland is the “It’s getting all Game Theory in here guy” from three years back. He was part of Louise Mensch’s crowd.

This brings back memories lol.

Checked just now - she’s still on and on about “Russians”, including promoting her piece “The Russians and The Riot”, even though she doesn’t in any way establish that the people she is talking about are Russian, rather than American citizens (eg Steve Dudnik, whom she mentions, obviously is an American). Now, maybe she means that in an ethnic sense (which would make her piece akin to “Arabs and 9/11”), but neither can she prove that (eg Steve Dudnik is a Jewish guy formerly from Estonia).

IOW, same old.

Do you do any JavaScript in the uploader? If there was a way to do it, the JS would have to know it’s a JPEG, read the EXIF data, and then tell the server to rotate it after uploading. I imagine it would get kinda ugly.

Was listening to a podcast last week — probably “Stay Tuned with Preet” — and there was a discussion about a Saudi dissident who had a Twitter account. The Saudi government, in effect, silenced him by hiring hundreds of Saudis whose mission was to respond constantly to his tweets by denouncing him and supporting MBS. His message was overwhelmed and he no longer had an effective way to reach the population through social media.
