I took the time to thank each Republican that voted to impeach on Twitter, and throw them a follow, even Cheney. They did the bare minimum one would expect from an American, but these days I really appreciate it from a Republican.

RE: Biden saying he’ll work with the GOP on Covid relief.

He didn’t say he was insisting they help him get something passed, only that he’d try to find a middle ground.

More than likely he’ll quickly realize the GOP are assholes and there will be no middle ground and try and push for something to get done without them.

re: #408 Anymouse 🌹🏡😷

It doesn’t do that for me. Perhaps your setting got messed up? about:preferences in the address bar and tick “open links in tabs instead of new windows”

That would deal with it if it were just that, but I also assume embedded tweets are displaying properly for you.

I’m getting the bare-bones box that tends to show up when there’s an embedded deleted tweet instead, but it’s still possible to view it with all its avatars and images intact by clicking on it and going to Twitter.

re: #3 Punish Domestic Terrorists

I took the time to thank each Republican that voted to impeach on Twitter, and throw them a follow, even Cheney. They did the bare minimum one would expect from an American, but these days I really appreciate it from a Republican.

Trump, inciting violence against Rep. Cheney (and by extension the other nine Republicans):

Trump: ‘The Liz Cheneys of the world. We have to get rid of them.’ (Casper, Wyo. Star-Tribune)

President Donald Trump on Wednesday called on his supporters to reject Republican lawmakers who have defied his efforts to overturn the results of the presidential election, naming Wyoming’s Congresswoman Liz Cheney specifically.

In a political rally in Washington D.C. ahead of Congress’ vote to certify the results of the Electoral College, Trump called on his supporters to “get rid of the weak Congresspeople” who declined to endorse his unfounded claims of rampant voter fraud in the 2020 election. The issue has divided the Republican Party in recent weeks between loyalists to the president and those Trump has described as Republicans in Name Only, or “RINOs”

“The Liz Cheneys of the world. We have to get rid of them,” Trump said in the rambling speech, in which he encouraged primary challenges against Republicans who opposed him.

Wyoming was Trump’s strongest state in the 2020 elections, going for the former real estate tycoon with just over 70% of the popular vote. Though Cheney has been labeled as an occasional critic of the president on the election as well as foreign policy, she still voted with President Trump’s position approximately 95% of the time over the last four years, according to an analysis by the website FiveThirtyEight.

They freakin’ love Donald Trump in Wyoming. Although he won in Nebraska (except NE-2), the difference between here and seventy miles west is striking.

Anthime Gionet, aka Baked Alaska, failed to show up at a Scottsdale City Court hearing today where the prosecutors were going to argue his on his own recognizance bond should be revoked.

Now there is a warrant out for this great specimen of stupidity. However, even that isn’t enough to get his recognizance bond revoked. If Baked can scrape up $3,000 for another bond, he can stay free (absent the prosecutors getting the judges to revoke the FIRST bond). Confused? Here’s the Phoenix New Times to tell you more.

Fiscal Responsibility

re: #410 EPR-radar

I’m really starting to question the validity of most of the usual arguments for broad freedom of speech in the US (e.g., good ideas will overcome bad ideas in the marketplace of ideas, etc.).

Of course, the argument that the bad guys would inevitably corrupt the censors remains as valid as ever. But that seems to be the only argument in favor that survives contact with reality.

I’ve always believed that Gresham’s law of economics also applies to speech: bad ideas drive out good, especially given that bad ideas are amplified by the rich and powerful who control sources of information

I don’t want to go so far. America is not America if we throw out freedom of speech.

Maybe I’m a Whig at heart, but this is just a speed bump, if a SHORT BAD SPEED BUMP in the progress towards greater liberty and enlightenment, that America has been making for the past 2 centuries. Certainly, it’s shorter than 90 years of Jim Crow.

I don’t think it’s inevitable, though. It requires supporters of good ideas to be vocal in favor of good ideas.

The officers at the West Terrace eventually pushed people away from the doors. It was only then that Fanone saw the immense, volatile crowd stretched out in front of him and realized what police were up against.

“We weren’t battling 50 or 60 rioters in this tunnel,” he said in the first public account from D.C. police officers who fought to protect the Capitol during last week’s siege. “We were battling 15,000 people. It looked like a medieval battle scene.”

Someone in the crowd grabbed Fanone’s helmet, pulled him to the ground and dragged him on his stomach down a set of steps. At around the same time, police said, the crowd pulled a second officer down the stairs. Police said that chaotic and violent scene was captured in a video that would later spread widely on the Internet.

Rioters swarmed, battering the officers with metal pipes peeled from scaffolding and a pole with an American flag attached, police said. Both were struck with stun guns. Fanone suffered a mild heart attack and drifted in and out of consciousness.

All the while, the mob was chanting “U.S.A.” over and over and over again.

“We got one! We got one!” Fanone said he heard rioters shout. “Kill him with his own gun!”

“…These police leaders talked of battles using metaphors typically reserved for wars, describing fighting on three fronts, including the West Terrace, one of the few places where police prevented rioters from breaking through. Had those rioters succeeded, authorities said, thousands more people could have poured into the Capitol, with possible catastrophic consequences.”

“…Looking over the chaotic scene in front of him from the Capitol steps, Glover grew concerned as the battle raged. There were people caught up in the moment, he said, doing things they would not ordinarily do. But many appeared to be on a mission, and they launched what he and the police chief described as a coordinated assault.

“Everything they did was in a military fashion,” Glover said, saying he witnessed rioters apparently using hand signs and waving flags to signal positions, and using what he described as “military formations.” They took high positions and talked over wireless communications.

Authorities would later learn that some former members of the military and off-duty police officers from across the country were in the pro-Trump crowd. Glover called it disturbing that off-duty police “would knowingly and intentionally come to the United States Capitol and engage in this riotous and criminal behavior against their brothers and sisters in uniform, who are upholding their oaths of office.”

“…”The zealotry of these people is absolutely unreal,” said Hodges, who suffered from a severe headache but otherwise emerged unhurt. “There were points where I thought it was possible I could either die or become seriously disfigured.”

Still, Hodges said, he did not want to turn to his gun.

“I didn’t want to be the guy who starts shooting, because I knew they had guns — we had been seizing guns all day,” he said. “And the only reason I could think of that they weren’t shooting us was they were waiting for us to shoot first. And if it became a firefight between a couple hundred officers and a couple thousand demonstrators, we would have lost.”

And yet, it happened. It was facilitated. They can deny it all they want, but the Capitol was intentionally vulnerable to server their insane ends, all based on lies a bunch of spineless motherfuckers co-signed.

If any foreign terrorists are paying attention it made it look like a walk in the park, and they also saw how the support people (police) were considered incidentals.

I’m so impressed (surprised too) that FBI is making so many arrests of Capitol participants. Many were in costumes and wearing war paint.

I love the use of the Futurama Nixon-head-in-a-jar. I always loved that gag, it was one of my favorite parts of the show.

Traudl Junge, Hitler’s secretary, found work after the war. They’re not trying hard enough. Bootstraps! Turn that frown upside down! See also: Fox or OANN.

Yeah, I’m pretty sure that they’ll find jobs in the wingnut circuit — especially the pretty blonde ones. Those seem popular as hosts on FOX News.

re: #112 Patricia Kayden

And let’s not forget Albert “I Didn’t Know Nuthin’ ‘Bout No Jews” Speer, Hitler’s architect and confidant. After a stint in prison (post-Nuremberg) he went on to become a successful businessman. He wrote, collected art, had money, etc.. He got a pass largely because he denied any knowledge of the Final Solution. Come to find out, fucker lied about that too.

I don’t give a flying fuck if any of Trump’s clan finds work anywhere or ever. I don’t care if they self-deport, live in soup kitchens, or in their hillbilly cousin’s backyard. DNGAF.
