Lyrics:

People always after something they don’t have
Once they get that something they don’t want it anymore
Yes I know I’m guilty of this too
But I’m human so I’ll still judge you

People always chasing something they don’t need
Once they find it they don’t even feel fulfilled
Yes I know the change begins within
Distraction and repression, I’m a dreamer too

Why can’t we just be living in the here and now
What does it take to live in the here and now

People always after something they don’t have
Following the carrot on a stick
Once they get it they don’t want it anymore
Yes I know I’m guilty of this too
But I’m human so I’ll still judge you

Why can’t we just be living in the here and now
What does it take to live in the here and now

And like that, Mike Lindell better find himself a better set of lawyers than Trump did.

Never heard of this GLASYS dude before. Just stumbled across the video on YouTube and noticed it featured one of my heroes, Todd Rundgren. Reminds me a little of Louis Cole in a good way.

As MyPillow becomes a dirty word to many (and is currently descending on a trajectory to being forced back into mainly mail-order sales and only being able to being hawked by Hannity, Limbaugh [while he’s still alive], and other RW media shitheels alongside gold, seeds, and SHTF survival rations), I hope that the poor, innocent people that work for Lindell that are going to be the ones to suffer and lose their jobs because of his fevered batshit insane hubris beat the shit out of his ass…

re: #8 darthstar

Looking forward to Yellen settling in…

The untraceability of bitcoin is a major misunderstanding, though bitcoin itself has serious issues in the long run for other reasons…

Everyone who runs a Bitcoin node has a copy of _every_ single transaction between every bitcoin address. Now, no one necessarily knows who owns a particular bitcoin address. But this does not mean that bitcoin cannot be traced, and in fact, in many cases, its more traceable than using physical cash.

1) Bitcoin _can_ be useful is for international money transfers in places with inefficient money transfer systems. Traditionally, this was done using informal money transfer systems, like Hawala*, which are useful for say poor laborers in the oil rich Middle Eastern nations earning a couple of hundreds of bucks a month trying to get as much money as possible to their family.

Now your poor laborer obviously won’t be running a bitcoin node, but apparently people are doing a modern Hawala system using bitcoin transfers. And of course, the same system where poor migrant laborers are saving a few dollars, can also be used to allow nefarious activities to take place.

2) Anyone who wants to convert bitcoin into your own local currency in most countries needs to go through a legitimate exchanger. The legitimate exchangers all have KYC (Know Your customer) requirements. Uploading your driver’s license/passport/etc….

3) In either case, to a certain extent, governments can either go directly to the provider (e.g, coinbase), and/or do metadata analysis (ip addresses associated with addresses, reuse of bitcoin addresses to match bitcoin exchanges with real world transactions.).

Now, bitcoin has some major issues that make unusable in the long term.

1) Bitcoin is absolutely utterly utterly _HORRIBLE_ is in the amount of energy used for bitcoin transactions. At one point, it was thought that Bitcoin energy usage might be bad enough to break climate change goals; but it’s _only_ responsible for as much energy use as _Estonia_. A upper medium income country with more than one million people. Which is still pretty bad, given bitcoin energy use is expected to increase.

2) Only a certain number of transactions can go out in a particular time period, a serious bottleneck on its scalability.

I’m finding in my experience that when you move to DMR or D-STAR or one of the new digital modes in Ham Radio, the crusty old wingnut conspiracy theorists concentration seems to be reduced.

I’d say that Ham Radio is one of a few different types of hobbies that tends to attract … people skeptical of the current conventional wisdom*. Coin collecting is another one. I’ve been told at coin shows by people with a straight face how JFK was assassinated because he was going to move America to the Silver Standard, or alternately because he was going to increase printing of US Notes (a form of paper currency issued by the US treasury directly, and NOT ISSUED BY THE FEDERAL RESERVE BANK).

Ironically, they’re both hobbies heavily tied to government, due to licensing requirements in the first case, and the second one is basically collecting of government issued products….

*To use euphemisms…

It’s not a Cletus Safari.

Nebraska Democrats ‘waiting for that sigh of relief’ when Biden, Harris are sworn in (Omaha World-Herald)

Elise Ehlers hopes Wednesday’s inauguration brings her some peace.

For the last four years, the University of Nebraska-Lincoln senior has awakened with a sense of dread, wondering what headlines will pop up on her phone about President Donald Trump.

The 22-year-old Democrat is eager for Trump to leave the White House, and for President-elect Joe Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris to take their oaths of office around 11 a.m. Wednesday.

“I am just waiting for that sigh of relief when they are both sworn in, and we can just take a step back and know that he doesn’t have control anymore, and we have hope,” said Ehlers, who is majoring in biochemistry.

Ehlers, like most Midlands Democrats, will spend Wednesday watching the ceremony on TV with family or alone to reduce pandemic-related risks. Many who might have gone to Washington, D.C., for the inauguration won’t, partly because of security precautions following the Jan. 6 Capitol attack.

As someone who worked for a “small-town newspaper,” I can tell you no individuals worked harder to bring the relevant local news to the people. It is the destruction of the local newspaper that has allowed the vile propaganda to flourish on Facebook, Twitter and other sites. I would cover city council and county commission meetings and submit a first article, and - if necessary - a second or third article to give the readers a full account of the actions taken. I was considered a salaried news editor, but so many of my colleagues were barely making 10 or 11 dollars an hour (with a college degree). This is just a final F-you by the FFVCS administration against people who seek to bring the truth to the local populace.

If a tweet has an attached video, you’ll now see a “play” button in the middle of its poster image. Click it and the video will open and automatically play in a popover dialog.

Hmm. All I get is a black popover screen with an X in the upper right to close it.

Perhaps I live too far out in the boonies for a video to get to me.

According to the Speaker’s office, the laptop that was stolen did not have access to any classified information and was used to prepare PowerPoint presentations. I think she dodges the Ethel Rosenberg on that one, but she’ll probably want to talk to Lectern Man about how theft of government property plays out.

The Panhandle will begin receiving a regular allotment of the COVID-19 vaccine, which will help speed vaccination efforts.

Starting next week, the Panhandle will receive 1,100 doses each week of the Moderna vaccine, Panhandle Public Health District Director Kim Engel said Monday. PPHD will distribute the vaccines to counties based on population.

“We’re all working as a team on this, each of the eight hospitals in the Panhandle, as well as a couple of pharmacies and the federally-qualified health center in Gering (Community Health Center, commonly known as CAPWN). We’re all working as a team as move through the phases and tiers.”

Panhandle to see regular shipments of vaccine (Scottsbluff, Nebr. Star-Herald)

We will not get the Pfizer vaccine here because there are no facilities to store it.

The population of the Nebraska Panhandle is 82,962.

1,100 doses a week will take a damn long time to go through that, especially since you need two doses.

My vague recollection is that in the movie version of “All the President’s Men,” they used the shortened phrase ” the Committee to Re-elect.” That is just the movie version. I don’t remember how Woodward and Bernstein quoted them in the book.

I think, back at the time, they realized their mistake pretty quickly - but no, it was “CREEP” from the get-go as far as (IIRC) virtually everyone else in the country outside the Committee itself was concerned.

Noem used her gubernatorial Twitter account on Sunday to respond to Haley’s post praising a Texas high school that had set up a food pantry like a grocery store to give “dignity” to students. The food pantry is supported by a Christian ministry and allows students to purchase groceries with a point system based on family size, behavior and on-campus jobs.

Noem replied to Haley’s tweet by posting a quote from economist Milton Friedman, saying, “There’s no such thing as a free lunch.” Her response doesn’t mention Haley specifically.

“I just see this as a sign of ‘let the games begin’,” said Alice Stewart, a GOP strategist and commentator.

A spokeswoman for Haley declined to comment on Noem’s tweet.

Haley, a former governor of South Carolina, and Noem are thought to be eyeing presidential runs, although Noem has said she will not run. Both Noem and Haley were the first women to hold the top office in their states. In the aftermath of Trump’s role in the Capitol insurrection, the two have staked out opposing views of where the GOP should go now.

Noem is trying to deflect blame from Trump while Haley cites his incendiary commentary as sparking the insurrection at the Capitol.

Other Republicans are questioning her wisdom in attacking a church food pantry.

Good luck getting this Court to affirm the constitutionality of that.

This court or any court for that matter. The FCC exists to regulate a limited public resource. Cable is neither public, nor particularly limited.

Well, the first isn’t really a splash screen (the warning the site uses cookies). The second is the one about the horror of Donald Trump being President.

IANAL, but it seems to me that pretty much every town only has one cable company, therefore it is a limited resource.

In the same way fresh water is theoretically unlimited, but pollution destroys vast rivers or aquifers and usually only one company or government agency distributes water to homes.

Gov. Noem’s tweet about student food pantry seen as dig at Haley, GOP strategist says

It’s not a food pantry in a church, it’s a partially subsidized by a church ministry food pantry in a school. Students first get points to “shop” at this pantry based on family size:

Instead of money, shoppers use points. All students get points based on the sizes of their families. A small family — with three or fewer people in the household — is allotted 40 points, and a large family with six or more people gets 65 points. The bigger the family, the more points. The points are replenished every week.

I completely lost my shit about this part:

Students can earn more points through positive office referrals from staff members for “outstanding” performance in the classroom or around the school building, Love said. Students can also earn points through on-campus jobs, such as in the school garden or as mentors or assistants.

Love said the school requires students to apply for the jobs to gain real-world experience and learn responsibility.

I was all, JUST FEED THE KIDS, GODDAMNIT. Especially in a school district where nearly half the student body is “economically disadvantaged” and nearly 4 percent are homeless. I’m not going to find my tweets where I went on a rampage, but I thought it was just nonsense that we made hungry kids perform so that they could prove they were “deserving” of charity. FUCK THAT.

Trump never put effort into anything in his life.

My first take on his PP is he is using it as a threat to maintain control over the GOP. “Piss me off or come after me and I’ll take half the party’s voters away.”

Very much like Newt wanting to put kids to work in school cafeterias to earn school lunches.
