The ridiculous attempt to institutionalize a particular version of American history was simply another reflection of the sense within Trump’s base that accurate depictions of the country are an attack on White America.

I recall the UK’s Enoch “Rivers of Blood” Powell and his statement: “In this country in 15 or 20 years’ time the black man will have the whip hand over the white man”.

Because they can only see things in terms of one group dominating another.

That is the cause of their panic and outrage, or as we call it “economic anxiety.”

They are also projecting what they’d do if they were ever under someone else’s thumb and got out from under it. Not seeking equality, but seeking revenge.

1) Had a libertarian/drunk leaning fraternity brother in college who was vocal about “might makes right” and associated racial baggage. Asked him once what was going to happen if the minorities got control and he fully expected bottom rail to be on top and thus suffering discrimination due to it. Said brother post-graduation went dry, but also substituted for it by going wingnut Christian. And in doing so became even more insufferable to talk to and deal with. (Which is a personality thing; e.g. the nut finds a cause and goes there. There were born again Christian brothers in the chapter who were some of the better people to hold discussions with and interact with. They were living the creed and trying to convert by example rather than spouting it at you like a fire hose.)

2) There’s the clip from the BLM protests earlier this year where the black woman goes on to say that they are protesting for fairness and people (white?) should be glad they are not out for revenging 400 years of abuse.

I think Trump seriously overestimates how free he will be to lead a rebellion with his freshfaced vision of the KKK.

Lawsuits. Lots of them. He may be able to keep his ass out of court for awhile with legal volleyball, but it’s coming. And I think the harder he runs, the harder they will come for him. Meanwhile, it’s lots and lots of filthy bad press for him and his cohorts.

And nobody is going to pardon him.

Just finished the White House vidas for each of the pardons/commutations. Most are harmless, normal, or even agreeable. The only one that truly offends is Bannon. He didn’t invent the nihilism that infects our society, but he has been the channel for much of it, and he intends to do more harm.

I don’t understand what “people over politicians” is supposed to mean, in this context. What people, besides Dixie Barbie, have wanted Biden impeached? What has he even done that you could possibly impeach him for, since he hasn’t even been in office yet?

And he’ll have to pay out front for decent lawyering since no one in their right mind will defend him without cashing the check first. And that assumes the lawyer(s) look at the case and decide it’s worth being his defense for. And I doubt he has much or any chance at someone doing it pro bono or a GOP donor with deep pockets being willing to pay his bills at this point.

And directly on the tails of this are going to be all the suits that drag the rest of the House Treasonweasel down as well. (Which should poison whatever chance they have to take over the RNC - so the PP party is probably going to become a reality simply as a new grifting device.)

Standard “revenge” rhetoric. Trump was impeached, so a Democrat must be impeached as well as soon as possible. And in 2016 you know that the GOP was going to attempt to impeach Clinton over something (probably Benghazi) as soon as possible if she had won.

IMO, Schumer should tell McConnel to take a seat and not cut any deals regarding balance of committees, chairs, etc. and take a very firm rein of Senate work going forward. And the Senate business should be carried out in ways making clear who is obstructing for the sake of obstruction, who is still supporting House Treasonweasel, and that the GOP has a lot to own up to before they get any consideration as a legislative partner worthy of any trust.

Yeah, I understand their revenge-porn fantasies, because they believe both impeachments of Trump were politically motivated (since they live in a fact-free alternate universe and/or are complicit with Trump in both of his impeached offenses). Just the phrase itself doesn’t make sense when you look at the facts, even the treasonweasels weren’t calling for Biden’s impeachment, rather his arrest and summary execution. But what am I saying? Marjorie Taylor Greene is not a woman who is known for her firm grip on reality.

As for the Senate, they have a very easy path to make that happen. Abandoning the McConnell Rule of “only legislation I personally approve of and will convince my brainwashed slaves to vote for makes it to the floor” and forcing them to vote against or filibuster legislation they don’t approve of will force the issue.

re: #27 thedopefishlives

When it looked like the R’s would maintain a majority in the Senate I thought we might get a chance to test the idea that the VP is the President of the Senate and can overrule McConnell. The VP usually defers to the Pro Tempore during normal business in the Senate. Somehow McConnell perverted his role as Pres Pro Tempore into blocking all debate and voting on the floor that he did not agree with. I don’t see how this is constitutional. With a Dem VP, McConnell should not have been able to act the same way.
With the way Georgia went we won’t have this situation for now.

McConnell is not and never has been president pro tem of the Senate. During the Trump years, the President pro tem has been Orrin Hatch and Charles Grassley.

My thoughts are that the kooks are very comfortable speaking on behalf of someone else who can’t speak back. They speak for God, they speak for the Unborn, and they speak for the People. In each case they can just make up whatever the hell they want, because none of those specters or abstractions are in any position to object. It also means that the kooks therefore have no responsibility for the results, no need (or authority!) to compromise, and no need to justify any of their demands.

If you give them poll numbers that show that The People want no such thing, you’re obviously just talking to the wrong People.

Fuck the fucking GOP for enabling and conspiring with the most corrupt and criminal admin in history. Trump pardoned a shit ton of shitposters and sycophants, and the list includes some weird choices.

justice.gov

He pardoned a fucking Harkonen. Not the Dune Harkonens, which would be spectacularly awful, but a guy who engaged in medical fraud and lying about “cures” for kidney disease.

Of course he pardoned Bannon, who was accused of defrauding Trump’s own idiot base out of their hard earned money to build a wall that didn’t exist.

He also pardoned Elliot Broidy who was a GOP fundraiser and scammer.

He also commuted sentence of Randy Cunningham - a GOP politician who engaged in corruption.

Lots of political corruption, fraud, and similar crimes pardoned. It’s a theme.

No Trumps, no Rudy, no Sheldon Silver, and no other Kushners on the list.

Even Nixon didn’t pardon his cronies on his way out

I’m gonna hazard a guess and go with natural gas explosion. We had one here in Czech Republic last summer that do major damage to a residential tower block, though thankfully, there were no fatalities.

Aye. Eyeballing it, I would say same level of damage you’ve had in explosions post medium- to long-time leaks in TX, PR etc. Madrid has also had copious (by Madrid standards) amounts of snow (8”-ish) as of late, so either someone went outside the SOAR of the heater, or snow blocked a vital vent and… You do the math…

I was wondering about that. I know Beau liked that Coldplay song. Honestly, the more I see from Biden the more I see what drew my Uncle to support his run 12 years ago. They’re the same age but my Uncle compared Joe to my grandfather. Never knew him but he’s still held in high regard by those who remember him over 40 years later. I’m proud to have voted for Biden. Not just against Trump.

Simply refer to their own (idiotic) economic projections

Tax cuts did not achieve what you said they would. (Pre covid)
Repealed.

Historians shouldn’t ignore the “1776 report”. Not because it isn’t shit, but because it is history. The moment when the government of the US decided it needed a ministry of propaganda an Orwellian Ministry of Truth.

So just another butthurt gripe for the Cultural Fascists among us to get butt-hurt and gripey over. Which, since ISTM from the beginning that creating another potential nexus of whiny self-victimization/huffy outrage on the Right was what “1776”* was mainly about, is only to be expected.

*the Trump-Admin “Commission”, not the Broadway musical. The latter is fine.

More like talking about Trump’s rise to power without mentioning his role. It was completely infuriating.

or talking about how the republicans in the 1990’s kept Clinton and the democrats disciplined, without mentioning that not a single one of them voted for the ‘92 tax increase that led to balanced budgets for the first time in 40 years?

We now have a real-world model of what would happen if you give a wild chimpanzee a loaded Uzi. And 47% of America still voted to repeat giving a chimpanzee an Uzi.

We are a sick country that shows no signs or will of getting any better. We must ensure that no Republican ever again gets into the White House. It’s that serious.

74 million voters is 22% of Americans, approximately (not all eligible to vote).
