Negative Nancy me has always believed that it was impossible for the Republicans to hold Trump accountable, because too many in our society really love the sociopathy of Trump.

And broken record me explains why: Trump’s lying help covers up the real problem, which is the loss-of-god that modernity brings.

I wonder if there is agitation for new laws since the old ones apparently are not being used successfully enough to curb the criminality that is occurring?

Turns out Greene is lying about that impeachment thing…

Shocked face, around here somewhere

congress.gov can sometimes be slow at updating newly-filed bills.

However, she’s a conservative, so the burden-of-proof is on her to prove she did file it.

Not helping that the party that wraps itself in Jesus constantly seems to want to cover for Trump and lie an awful lot in support of their own selfish desires as well.

They should put it in a reconciliation bill ASAP, and just accept the fact that the GOP remains just as uninterested in governing as it has for the last 12 years.

re: #7 Love-Child of Cassandra and Sisyphus

Coincidentally I was just reading this, from National Catholic Reporter:

Bishops throw cold water on the most Catholic inauguration in history

“…I am sure the leadership at the bishops’ conference would be treating any Democrat shabbily. But I think what makes them really crazy is the fact that they realize, at some deep unconscious level, Biden did more in 24 hours to remind the American people that the Catholic Church can be a force for good in our country than the bishops’ conference has done in 10 years. His memorial service for COVID-19 victims was more pastoral than their repugnant statement. Biden’s inaugural address was a better articulation of Catholic ideas about governance than any recent document from the conference. He cited Augustine to help unite our brutally divided country. They turn to citations that exacerbate the divide. Biden has allowed himself to be enriched by the faith of others, Catholic and non-Catholic. Gomez seems stuck in his Opus Dei playbook.”

I’ve seen this movie before. The GOP will go through the motions of negotiating a Covid package, but there will never be 10 GOP votes for any actual bill unless it’s loaded with poison pills designed to make it DOA. Their sole objective is to delay as long as possible, and blame the Democrats for it.

I wish that Manchin and any other moderates supporting the filibuster would realize they are giving all their power away to McConnell. Without the filibuster, they each have the power to block anything they don’t want passed, and the power to demand additions to help their states. The filibuster takes that away from them, and all they can do after reconciliation is make speeches and vote on Biden appointees. Maybe that’s all they want to do.

This, right here. I want someone to stand up and say, “Minority Leader McConnell, it is no longer your prerogative to set timelines in this chamber. We are having a vote on this bill as soon as the House of Representatives sends it over. It is up to you to vote to approve it or not. You may also feel free to come up with your own counter-proposal for consideration, which I think we will find time for some time in *checks calendar* 2023. Now take your seat.”

EUREKA, Calif. — The Eureka Police Department said a Eureka man was arrested early this morning after he made violent threats towards a government building and it’s staff in Eureka Tuesday.

According to a press release, 49-year-old Darin Michael Ward made the detailed and violent threats while at a restaurant in Weaverville, CA. Specifically, Ward threatened to “shoot up the government building, its staff, and anyone around wearing a mask,” according to the EPD.

In January, Ward was interviewed by sister station KRCR while driving a “Trump Bus” across the country to support President Donald Trump in Washington D.C.

Ehh, I’m going to give Leavers a pass. Unlike Republicans in the United States, where you really do have to be an idiot, a racist, or some other kind of asshole to vote for them, the UK racists wove an extremely subtle PR campaign that concealed the true nature of the movement and made it feel like a good idea to people who weren’t experts in economics or global politics. Sure, “the info was there,” but unlike American politics, which are conducted in a bubble, the info was washed out by the flood of bulkshit.

PayPal Shuts Down Account of Texas Rioter Who Flew to D.C. on Private Plane

PayPal has terminated the account of a Texas real-estate agent who took a private plane to the Capitol insurrection and is now begging her fellow “patriots” for donations to cover her legal fees. Jenna Ryan, a real-estate broker and life coach, was released from custody last week after being charged for her role in the storming of the Capitol, which she documented on social media, calling it “one best days of my life.” On Thursday, Ryan posted a Twitter thread begging for donations to help pay for her legal fees for “protesting at the US Capitol.”

On Thursday evening, PayPal shut down her account, saying in a statement that she was using it for more than just her legal fees. “PayPal has a policy to allow fundraising for legal defense purposes,” the company said in a statement. “PayPal thoroughly reviews accounts, and if we learn that funds are used for anything other than legal defense, the account will be subject to immediate closure. We can confirm that the account in question has been closed.”

Hit a new milestone supporting the Folding At Home distributed computing project (still contributing to its COVID projects). I’ve been supporting it for just about most of its existence in the past 20 years.
Think it says something about the the development of computers and technology that about 75% of my contribution over this time was done using my no-longer-new PC rig in the past two years (before the project became COVID-oriented), compared to about 25% in the ~18 years before that…

Senate Democrats are voicing opposition to Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell’s (R-Ky.) push to ensure the filibuster endures the next two years, a rule that would allow Republicans to block much of President Joe Biden’s broad legislative agenda.

“Unfortunately, we’re not going to give him what he wishes. If you did that then there would be just unbridled use of it,” Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) told reporters on Thursday.

Via the Rapid City Journal:

The governor [Kristi Noem] did not say she regrets calling the new Democratic senators from Georgia “communists.” She made the comments about Sens. John Ossoff and Raphael Warnock in an article for the Federalist after saying “there are consequences for how we talk to each other in this country” in response to the Capitol riot.

There are consequences for how we talk to each other. For example, we’ll all remember you as the genocidal bitch who presided over the destruction of South Dakota’s vulnerable and who indirectly helped incite a riot by spreading the Big Lie.

What was it that really sold it to the Leavers? The blue passports? The dreams of Empire long gone? Sovereignty the UK never lost? Or kicking out all the Poles or Romanians who were taking all the good jobs and sucking up benefits (you know, like conservatives argue here: Schrodinger’s immigrant)?

Was it the fascists from the English Defence League who really sold them on the idea? Or the fascists from UKIP?

“Rubio” needs to become slang for something bad.
Not as vile as “Santorum” (if you don’t know that one already, do NOT look it up), but bad all the same.

Democrats don’t have a majority in the Senate. Democrats rely on two independents to caucus with them.

Not an unassailable majority, though.

The Republicans picked up several House seats in the recent election.

About this I wailed on election night.

I am a wet blanket. I get that. People don’t want to squash their enthusiasm.

Yet here is my claim: we are worse off today, in regards to being a society that can govern itself, than we were 4 years ago.

Trump got vastly more votes than any Republican before him.

The Trumpers in my Facebook timeline are in full denial/DARVO mode.

At this time 4 years ago Republicans had control of both houses of Congress and the White House.

I think we’re better off than that.
