It’s become a political thing. They can give whatever feckless excuse they want - masks are ugly, I can’t breathe, I have a medical condition, mah freedumbz - but at the end of the day, it’s because Democrats are in favor of following the science - using masks, practicing social distancing, shutting things down, etc. And a good Republican must automatically oppose anything a Democrat is a proponent of, no matter what, because it isn’t about putting America first, it’s about putting the party first.

I have no problem with reforming and revamping our electoral process to make it more robust, reliable, transparent and inclusive (thank you Dangerman) so we will not have to be subjected to the clusterfuck of the 2020 elections again.

Until now, it has relied to much on trust and good faith with only a minimum of mutual oversight. But we can no longer count on any of those aspects as a part of the political process in our country…

There never was a chance. Even when the insurrection was fresh in everybody’s minds, asshats like Hawley and Cruz were already flogging the Republican rank and file to get them into line. It was always going to end like this, and it’s frustrating because it seems like there’s nothing we can do about it.

Listened to about half of Al Franken podcast today so far. I think he is right that one of the first things the Dems need to do is take the John Lewis Voting Rights Act out of the omnibus House bill and make it a stand-alone. Make the Republicans vote on that after filibuster reform. Rand Paul is signaling what will undoubtedly be a bigger push than it already is: disenfranchise Black voters.

I really liked the idea of having 41 votes to create and/or sustain a filibuster rather than 60 to override it.

Mitt is wearing two masks. One isn’t good enough for you?

“It has been backed up by research that two masks are, in fact, better than one,” CBS Denver’s medical director Dr. Dave Hnida told CBSN Denver. “Specifically what we’re saying is that two masks may actually equal the protection you would get from N-95 masks, which is considered the best mask there is short of a complete respirator-type unit.”

He added that using two masks creates “an obstacle course for the viral particle to make its way from the air into your nose and throat and then into your lungs.”

That notion has been backed up by other experts including one in virus transmission at Virginia Tech, Linsey Marr.

Last bit on birx
From a rando commenter

So Birx was in fact a powerful government official. She knew there was no team, that Jared and Pence were doing nothing but blaming others, that the CDC was neutered. She claims she thought about resigning but didn’t to try to help things.

Fine, despite the fact that there was obviously no way to get Trump, Pence, or Jared to engage seriously and honestly, or even just stay the hell out of the way and let the pros deal with it, fine. So you stayed. What did you do???? If you are trying to salvage your reputation by saying you stayed to mitigate the damage, what exactly did you do????

For all her whining, I have yet to hear her say what she did to make things better. From the outbreak through the election, what did she do to steer the response and make things better? Clearly very little.

And, since November, we knew there would be a new president who would take COVID seriously and who would use the federal government to deal with COVID. She knows leading experts throughout the executive who she could have pulled in to develop detailed options and plans so that the second Biden was sworn in she could have dropped it on the resolute desk and said “Here Mr. President, we weren’t able to do any of this under Trump but I had our experts craft policy and T things up for you”. That would have been incredibly valuable but to my knowledge, she did not.

Birx just needs to go away and give her debriefs in private to investigators because I and the public don’t want to hear her excuses.

She’s got no excuses
She needs to retire quietly

WRT your first comment: is that precisely true? ISTR that, among the other detritus the Kraken dredged up off the bottom of the swamp were a bunch of allegations (especially, I think in NV and MI) about “massive” vote dumps/vote-stuffing, etc. Of course, most of them were of the “Some guy on the Internet posted that somebody swears he saw truckloads of Biden ballots being unloaded at 4:00am” variety (hence their filings being usually tossed PDQ), but I think there were claims made. Bullshit claims, of course, and eventually overshadowed by other levels of bogosity, but there.

They made their claims of fraud in the media. They never made them in courtrooms (where the allegation of fraud requires evidence). The claims in courtrooms were about processes (such as the one case they did win regarding the distance of observers) or state laws (claiming they were unconstitutional or that they were applied in an unconstitutional way).

The crime of the century just took place in Green Bay.

If you were watching the game, you may believe that Tampa Bay won, and that Tom Brady will be returning the the Super Bowl for the 10th time.

However, the Packers actually won the game 77-0.

I mean, there is just no way a 43 year old quarterback still has what it takes to lead a team to win a pre-season game, let alone the NFC Championship game.

The only reason Tampa Bay “won” is Brady worked with Hugo Chavez and George Soros to produce a Madden NFL version of the game where Tampa Bay wins. Meanwhile, Brady operatives hijacked the TV satellite like the way they did in Used Cars to broadcast this Madden farce, and deny the Packers their rightful place in the Super Bowl.

This is bigger than anything I ever imagined. Even Agenda 21!

re: #78 thecommodore

That’s ok, I had someone tell me today that the Superb Owl was fixed because the saw a random googled page that said the Bills won LV.

Packers D has been the weak spot all year, it really bit them this time. Add in shady Brady and, well, there you go again.

I did parmesan garlic soda bread with a box mix in my automatic bread machine. It turned out pretty well, though it wasn’t as good as the regular yeast loaves I make with it. I have a Guinness box mix, but only generic beer. And not even a stout, at that.

“…Josh Hawley was a precocious 15-year-old in 1995, writing a regular column for his hometown paper, The Lexington News, when he was still in high school.

He used the early platform to opine on politics, culture and those he believed had been unfairly maligned by the media — among them anti-government militias and Los Angeles police detective Mark Fuhrman.

Hawley warned against depicting all militia members as domestic terrorists after the Oklahoma City bombing, which killed 168 people, including 19 children. Timothy McVeigh and Terry Nichols, who carried out the attack on the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building, had ties to the Michigan Militia.”

Quick!!! We need a deflection from the GOP’s problems!!! Enter Tiger Beat on the Potomac:

Democrats Have a Values Problem. But Here’s How They Can Fix It.

As Democrats begin their unified control of Washington with the slimmest possible majority in the Senate and barely a majority in the House, they must accept and address a difficult truth: Republicans have won the fight to define American ideals.

In the fall of 2017, I set out on a 9,000-mile road-trip to talk to people about what it means to be an American and a good citizen. Stopping in churches and on college campuses, in rural towns and large cities, I spoke with over 200 Americans, liberal and conservative and in between. I talked to 60 Clinton voters, 55 Trump voters, and a significant number of people who could not vote because of immigration status, voter disenfranchisement or age. My goal was to figure out what values, if any, unite Americans.

Almost all masks are Chinese in origin.

However, go with Powecom masks. They’re on the CDC list of allowable KN95 masks for medical use, which means they can probably stand up for less demanding, everyday use. And they all have anti-piracy seals you can check with the manufacturer, so you know you’re not getting counterfeits.
