Yes, and she plays barefoot.

Our church’s tech director used to be our keyboard player. He always played barefoot. He still leaves his shoes next to the stairs to the tech booth on Sundays. Some old habits die hard.

re: #184 Eric The Fruit Bat

Riddle me this - how can energy markets go sky-high when they can’t/aren’t being used?
Who’s on the other side of the energy trade that stands to collect billions on non-functioning/available commodities (..like natural gas)?

This smells too much like a GameStop short-squeeze in the commodities market.

They were being used. The demand for gas was far higher than the available supply, so those few people who had electric power - and were drawing from a grid that included natural gas - were getting their costs from the price of the backing store, the natural gas, which was greatly overpriced due to the temporary and extreme lopsidedness of the market in favor of demand.

Been reading up on UA328. Looks like it was a couple of the fan blades after all; the video doesn’t show them clearly enough to see the damage. Also, it looks like Pratt and Whitney might be getting in some hot water. There have been a series of uncontained engine failures on PW4000 series engines stretching back to 2018, when the damaged aircraft’s sister plane blew up one of its PW4000’s on a flight over the Pacific. The 747 that blew an engine in Belgium also was running PW4000’s.

Wait until people get their natural gas bills. And if they have private water companies, their water bill.

re: #183 Targetpractice

Basically there’s no real way out of this without a bailout of some kind. A moratorium doesn’t make the bills go away, it just means no action can be taken for non-payment. The power companies are still going to expect payment and are going to take all actions they can short of shutting off power to twist the arms of their customers. And suggesting or ordering the companies to eat those bills is a legislative non-starter, as the immediate response will be screaming about how the companies will have to raise prices and cut jobs to remain “profitable.”

So yeah, either the state legislature is gonna have to dig deep into the coffers or they’re gonna have to go to D.C. to beg for money.

First question: Have you publicly acknowledged Donald Trump lied about the election and Joe Biden is the legitimate President? No? I’m sorry, we can’t help you; try Mar-a-Grifto.

They must be forced to give up the Big Lie.

The reason I say David Bowie is two-fold. Other than him being an amazing musician worthy of being viewed right next to the greatest artists in future history classes, the beginning of a chain of horrible events in my own life occurred correlating with his death.

This was a series of increasingly bad personal relationship issues as well as the rise and election of Fuckface von Clownstick.

After 2011, every “bad” thing in my life occurred following Bowie’s death and began within a couple of days of it. I think the Timeline without Bowie is the bad timeline that I need to go back through the Guardian of Forever and correct.

Rumble is a video hosting service based in Toronto which is popular with conservatives. It became popular after Devin Nunes accused YouTube of BIAAAASSSS1uno11 against conservatives.

Rumble just filed an anti-trust suit against Google alleging Google favours YouTube videos over Rumble videos in its search engine.

Rumble runs on the same libertarian speech ideas as Parler, so much of the content is a cesspool. They only ban porn, harassment (lol), racism (lol), or illegal content.

Opinion: Pundits are wrong. We don’t need a functional GOP. Jennifer Rubin, WaPo

It is no secret that modern conservatism, in large part a response to the Cold War, is ideologically spent. …

However, as we think through this next era in politics, we should abide by one core principle: A right-wing, populist and authoritarian party should not be allowed to hold power. It has proved to be dangerous, racist and fundamentally un-American. Everything else should be up for debate.

While I agree with Rubin, Republicans have been awful for some time. Trump just revealed them for what they are.
She quotes Bill Kristol:
“Modern American conservatism was born in 1955, peaked in full flower in the 1980s, and then aged, mostly gracefully, for three decades.”
That is such a lie. Conservatism has been a mess since Nixon.

Also, they have windmills in Antarctica:

At the main U.S. research station in Antarctica, annual temperatures average zero degrees Fahrenheit, but often drop much lower. There, near the United States’ McMurdo Station, a few wind turbines can provide enough electricity to power 100 American homes, and avoid burning over 120,000 gallons of diesel fuel each year.

They were the same “they’re lying” or “they don’t know anything” or “they’ll do anything to maintain power.”

The big failure of the internet is that it doesn’t require you to back up what you say. Now, the internet isn’t unique in that regard: Talking to your neighbors, coworkers, or fellow church members didn’t require it either. But the internet at least provides you a way of showing your sources.

He had his IT manager fired, then her home raided, for reporting real statistics. Florida claimed she hacked into the health department message system, but it turns out the system had a common login and password.

Then his freshly-appointed judge who issued the warrant to raid her home and seize her computer equipment jailed her.

Still feeling the Balkans thing…

Among the peoples of the Balkans are the Romani, colloquially called Gypsies under the false assumption that they are from Egypt rather than from the much more likely India.

As a foreign minority, Romani have rarely been able to settle and maintain their culture in the ethno-states in Europe and Middle East. Thus they tend to live on the edge of society and nomadically migrate from place to place. One of their sought after skills is their music making. Many Romani formed Tarafs. (Traditional Romani music groups)

One of the most well known Romani songs is called “Djelem Djelem” which translates English to “I travel”. It was written in the aftermath of World War 2 when the Romani were among the peoples targeted by the Nazis for genocide. There are a lot of different approaches and version of this song. This version is not as grim as the version in the wiki.

(Btw - Romani are a different peoples than the Romanians. Although there is a large community of Romani in Romania.)

He certainly knows that the current administration is not going to be issuing him any pardons and Trump’s pardon applies only to activities committed on or before the date of the pardon. But he’s been getting away with unlawful activity his entire life — yes he was ensnared during the Trump administration but that vanished with the pardon. Man…. I greatly appreciate all the postings here about the GOP’s continued refusal to accept the November election as well as the GOP’s continued refusal to accept the Constitution and their continued sedition.

I have been following with great interest, but have generally stayed quiet since about there is not much I feel I can contribute.

I am reminded about how my father, who lived through it, described the Great Depression and how close American Society was to collapse.

The folks who lived through the Great Depression and fought in World War 2 defined the United States (and to a great extent the world) for next 50 years. It seems that we are on the cusp of another such redefinition. Either the rebirth or end of the great experiment of the United States Democracy.

One of the things that I remember about the history of the Civil War was the timing of it’s start. The slavers could read the writing on the wall and could see that, as state after state ended slavery, they were demographically losing their battle for slavery. One of the arguments for starting the Civil War in 1860 was that their position was only going to continue to get worse.

I do wonder if the GOP’s allied racists, white supremacists, Neo-Nazis, and all the other loonytunes are starting to see the writing on the wall and are reacting the same way.

Thank you lizards for all your postings. I greatly appreciate them.

Sr. Miranda also says they have come to the realisation that Bolsonaro is a fascist (duh), using Donald Trump’s methods of violence and claims of election fraud to push his narrative to try to win the Brazilian 2022 election.

One of the ways that wingnuts kept telling themselves that Obama hadn’t won ‘09 “fairly” and couldn’t possibly win ‘12 was because of “white guilt.” That whites had voted for him rather than Clinton or McCain in ‘09 because they were afraid of being seen as “racist,” but now that a black man had won the presidency those white voters would feel free to vote for a white candidate in ‘12.

That was what led to them not only endorsing the “unskewing” nonsense, but even believing those polls were pessimistic, convinced that white voters were either avoiding being polled for fear of admitting they were voting for the white guy or that the ones who did get polled gave the answer the pollsters wanted to hear.

So when he not only beat those polls to win, but became the first president since Reagan to win 51%+ of the popular vote in both elections, the only explanation that wingnuts would accept was “voter fraud.” And just like now, they went wild with all sorts of conspiracy theories: hacked machines, boxes of fake ballots, dead voters, illegal voters, and so forth. And just like now, back then they used all these examples of “fraud” to excuse the very voter suppression efforts that helped them steal the election four years later.

Snow of course doesn’t burn, because it is water. Synthetic snow does exist (decorations and such) but not in such quantity you could cover all of Texas or France (or why you’d want to do that or how you would pay for it, &c).

Federalist Paper #29 explains the phrase “well-regulated militia.”

You would be unsurprised to learn wingnuts lie when they claim that phrase means to keep a firearm in working order.

From Wikipedia, that font of all human ken (citation needed):

Hamilton states that a well-regulated militia composed of the people will be more uniform and beneficial to the “public defense” of Americans. He argues that an excessively large militia can harm a nation’s work force, as not everyone can leave their profession to go through military exercises. Thus, a smaller, but still well-regulated militia, is the answer. In the end, Hamilton concludes that the militia, as it is constituted directly of the people and managed by the states, is not a danger to liberty when called into use by other states to do things such as quell insurrections.

BREAKING: I’m proposing a new Constitutional Amendment! “The 2nd Amendment must be underlined and bolded.” I suspect that this will help Democrats who, bless their hearts, seem to skip over it currently.

How about The First Clause of the 2nd Amendment must be underlined, bolded, AND IN ALL CAPS?

This will help Republicans, who, bless their pointed little heads, seem to blithely ignore the “well-regulated militia” part of it

Well, there’s stupid shit in there already. Article V says that amendments can’t change the equal number of Senators per state, but nothing there prevents an amendment removing that from Article V, then changing the distribution anyway. Passing laws to prevent repealing laws doesn’t work.

I don’t know what the history of this clause is, but it sounds like the drafters had to convince some holdouts that they were Really Serious about the equal state suffrage business.

Not that I see this being amended except by some unexpected overwhelming political pressure, because handing this sort of power to unrepresentative institutions is a legislative hole that is very difficult to get out of.

The GOP in this state is still trying to enforce political correctness.

Nebraska’s U.S. Sen. Ben Sasse, with his vote to convict former President Donald Trump of inciting the Jan. 6 Capitol riot, may have crossed a line with some Omaha-area Republicans.

The Douglas County Republican Party will take up a resolution on Tuesday to censure and rebuke the Fremont senator.

Earlier this month, several county parties passed censure resolutions to express their anger at Sasse for his repeated criticisms of Trump. But Republicans in the state’s most populous county have not weighed in, in part to preserve the perception of GOP unity.

Scott’s Bluff County’s GOP was the first to censure Sen. Sasse. Since then a number of county parties have jumped on-board. Douglas County is the largest by population, seat Omaha.

The state GOP is considering censure. The Nebraska Democratic Party upheld his vote as supporting the rule of law, so he’s doomed as a RINO now.

Their mind twists it into “well-regulated militia means I got a right to military-grade weapons because I might get called up to fight for my country!,” despite the reality that if America ever gets to the point where Meal Team 6 is needed to defend itself, terms of surrender are already being transmitted to whoever is still in charge after D.C. was wiped off the map.

In some breaking news out of Czech Republic, the Czech Constitutional Court has overturned restrictions on the operation of retail establishments; as per the ruling, the government failed to prove its case and created a veritable telephone book of exceptions and exemptions. The court also ruled that since the closure of retail establishments was, in fact, unconstitutional, owners of retail establishments are fully entitled to compensation from this point forward, though not retroactively.

The Czech government is currently meeting to decide what to do next. The ruling only concerns retail shops, not services, as that was not part of the original lawsuit against the government.

CNBC: Dominion sues MyPillow, Mike Lindell Over Pro-Trump Election Conspiracies

Dominion Voting Systems sued MyPillow CEO Mike Lindell on Monday, accusing the staunch ally of former President Donald Trump of pushing false conspiracies about the 2020 election “because the lie sells pillows.”

The $1.3 billion defamation suit says Lindell knew his repeated claims about the election being “stolen” were not backed by evidence, but kept at it anyway to spur Trump’s supporters to buy MyPillow products.

The 115-page complaint filed in Washington, D.C., federal court cites numerous statements Lindell made in television interviews and social media posts, as well as in a two-hour documentary-style film that aired on conservative media in February.

Not likely. The GOP doesn’t give a shit about the rule of law or the Constitution.

Heck, they and VP Pence were purposefully targeted by the insurrectionists and even then they voted to acquit Trump.

Why did they acquit? Because McConnell created the excuse for them by delaying the trial until after 1/20. They made up this bulkshit excuse and claimed it wasn’t constitutional to act even though they all knew he was guilty as fuck.

But if they were forced to act and vote before 1/20, they’d claim that they couldn’t act quickly with enough time to hear the case.

They’re fucking fascists who put party over nation and are afraid of their base that they’ve incited to violence time and again and have radicalized over the past 40+ years with nonstop misinformation.

Legal Magic 8-ball says multiple charges likely, plea deal suggested.

Trump’s tax filings are going to show serious discrepancies from what he was telling creditors and investors, which goes to wire/mail fraud (lying to creditors/investors about the valuations), and then tax fraud by shielding accurate valuations from the IRS.

Either/both could be true as it goes to lies for one or the other. Trump was maintaining multiple sets of books all to pull one over on everyone.

We saw how this worked with his property tax shenanigans with his Westchester golf club. He lied to tax authority about valuation, while puffing up the valuations to boost membership.

Why not? If seems on brand for him, he’s demonstrated many times that his powers of logic are lacking. And by lacking, I mean don’t seem to exist.

Shit, I started wearing a mask just before the first wave of lockdowns hit (3/12/20).

In fact, if memory serves the Great Toilet Paper Wars were in full swing this time last year.

There’s a reason that the health experts say that Trump’s disastrous handling of the pandemic increased the death toll by 40%. It would be nearly half of the 500,000+ we see today had he followed the health experts instead of the junk science know nothings who were telling him what he wanted to hear.

Everyone around Trump were cowards who caved to Trump or sucked up to him by telling him what he wanted to hear. Even Fauci skirted this issue on occasion to avoid getting fired.

I admit, I was pretty tardy in the wearing of the mask. Part of that was due to the fact that I literally didn’t go anywhere for pretty much the first month of lockdowns. I volunteered at church still, but it was entirely online so it was just myself and the other volunteers and the pastors, which was a small enough bubble to get away with the risk until the mask mandates started coming through.

I’m not getting overly excited. I’m sure once SCOTUS starts dropping decisions on religious cases we won’t be too happy.

Definitely not going to get excited about SCOTUS making the right decisions. But NY keeping Trump busy means one part of our fascism gets hobbled.

I’m guessing CPAC will be a superspreader this year.

Oh ye of little faith! Franky Graham Cracker and the rest of the Trump Pulpit Pimping Posse will be there to pray the virus away. And Kenny Copeland will be blowing it away to hell just like he did before!

Of course, this is a very conservative court that is going to make a lot of bad decisions. I’m just dancing on Trump’s grave. He is probably fuming today over “his” judges betraying him, and he can’t even tweet about it.

Work related gripe.

My boss: We have an important meeting this morning but it will only take 15 minutes.

The actual meeting: 47 minutes.

Because who cares about sticking to a schedule? Not like that’s important or anything.

We simply didn’t go anywhere we didn’t have to outside of town.

The disease only reached us last month, so now we wear masks going out in the village.

I’m out for Cheyenne now. The nurse just called and explained why the balloon thingies injured my legs. She says that the VA adopted the ring balloons for surgery over the older ones because they have many obese patients, and the ring balloons squeeze much harder, helping prevent blood clots in obese patients in surgery.

She noted I am by far the thinnest patient they have, and those things really aren’t designed for someone like me, though she never heard of someone being injured by them before.

They have updated my chart to reflect those should not be used on me in the future unless I gain a lot of weight.

Off for my shot and inspection of my surgical wound. Back tonight sometime.

I’ve noted an uptick of this since going remote. People are like, “Well, everyone’s on the call, and your calendars are all free, so…” No. Miss me with that shit. I have other things to do with my day, such as the actual job you’re paying me an obscene amount of money to do, so get me off the damn phone. If you want to bring up a new topic, schedule a new meeting.

Yep. I prefer email. I can take a quick look at the message, learn what I need to, then get right back to what I was doing. But on the calls, it never fails that half the meeting is spent on actual content and the other half is spent on people asking questions (many of which were already answered by the preceding content). I could easily drop off halfway through and resume my work but then I get the earful from my boss about “why weren’t you on that call?”.

My immediate management does a pretty good job of keeping the meetings within the time block allocated, which I am very grateful. If things start going off track the meeting moderator is usually very good about stating that we are off track and can discuss that at another meeting. Especially if not everyone in the current meeting gives a damn about what is being discussed.

Freepers are lamenting the end (again) of our Great Republic as the SCOTUS fails them. Someone suggested a few AGs should go after Biden’s, Harris’, et. al’s. taxes to own the libs. Someone had to point out they’ve all released them already and Biden’s are on his web site. That ended that line of discussion.

lawhawk  Feb 22, 2021 • 9:03:51am

Ted Cruz is being an ass complaining that Obama politicized the DOJ.

Cruz knows Obama did no such thing, but Trump did.

That’s the whole fucking point. Trump’s the one who treated the DOJ and AG as Trump’s personal lawyer, interfering in multiple criminal cases on Trump’s behalf. Barr was more than happy to do so.
