He writes about how he monitored political pundits and mainstream media outlets, along with Twitter feeds like FOX News Channel.
He did not mention looking at any of the blogs no matter where they are on the political spectrum to see how people analysed what was happening in real time.
Journalists seem to have a very negative opinion of bloggers of any stripe, even though people who ran blogs like Jennifer Rubin became respected political opinion writers. He name drops a lot of people such as Sarah Kendzior, but notes he ignored those warnings, and of African-Americans in general (who damn well knew what they saw in Donald Trump).
In Ms. Rubin’s case, I would imagine it was her extensive knowledge about politics and the prominence of her blog which made her a valuable opinion writer, even if I don’t agree with her political opinions.

The Veterans Administration has a form to fill in with unusual effects you might experience, to be filled in over the next month. Once completed, it is to be turned in to the VA. The form says it is information being collected for both the VA and the CDC. It doesn’t say anything about registering with a Website though.

Ricketts said that he understands the frustration of those with comorbidities, but that “we’re doing this based on risk.”

Nebraska now ranks 24th in total shots administered per capita, improving from 33rd the previous week. It continues to rank particularly well in the rate of those who have received both of their shots (20th) and in rate of shot distribution (13th).
Where the state doesn’t rank so well is in the percentage of distributed shots that had been administered. That figure was 77% last week, which ranked only 45th among the states.
Ricketts said Monday that Nebraska has to do a better job on data reporting and that the state has been talking with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention about how it is reporting that information to make sure it’s accurate.

The good news for the Jews of the world is that they did not lose as many of “the clan” as they had thought they lost. Central Europe was, substantially, cleared of Jews, but that was primarily through emigration. The high death rate, from starvation, in the camps during the last months of the war was due largely to the “Allied extermination policies.” Perhaps that is why the United States continues to send Israel $6 billion a year as a gift; guilt has its obligation.

They note they aren’t going to bother any more pursuing this with Twitter or the BBB, as they view outreach on Twitter as basically a time-suck. They have to wade through hundreds of death threats and long screeds of proselytisation to find tweets which are relevant to their mission of providing support and assistance to those who are marginalised or threatened.
I can understand their position: While religious views are a protected class under civil rights law and the I Amendment, trying to go after a mammoth corporation when you’re a little not-for-profit support group is an awfully big task, and would take time away from their real mission in the USA (finding housing for minor children thrown out of their homes by parents [all sects do this here, not just Evangelicals], arranging legal representation for those threatened here for not believing the same way as someone else, &c.)
Unlike the entire Republican Party whinging about fascists, misogynists, and other assorted flavours of actual haters being thrown off the platform (their base voters), AR says they can do their work of providing aid to atheists in the USA without Twitter.
So far their Facebook pages are safe, though they’ve been banned by a number of nations.

My wife and I were discussing the topic posed here yesterday “if you could bring back a dead musician, who would that person be?”
She told me her choice would be Tchaikovsky.
We then discussed who each of us had seen in concerts before we were married. My wife is not a crowd person, so I was surprised she actually went to any concerts at all.
She said she went to many local groups in Colorado Springs and Denver. She also saw Uncle Bonsai three times, U. Utah Phillips twice, and Bruce Springsteen. (I didn’t know she liked Bruce Springsteen. I like the fact I learn new things about my sweetie every day we are married.)
I’ve been to more concerts because crowds don’t bother me as much: John Denver (I was dragged to that one by my mother for my sister’s birthday, it wasn’t my idea), Yes three times, The Irish Rovers, Sarah Brightman, Rasputina, Rush, Juice Newton, Alabama, Bob Hope, Loretta Lynn (USO concert aboard ship), and Alice Cooper.
Since we’ve been married, we’ve only been to three concerts: The Green Mountain Homesteaders (here in my village so that wasn’t tough to get to), Shelley Segal (in Denver), and Garfunkel and Oates (in Denver)

The hot carriage and its swaying motion have their inevitable effect upon the inebriated Bazza. He suddenly and abruptly stands up to deliver a great technicolour yawn all over the lady and her Chihuahua. She jumps up in horror, and poor Bazza is mortified. “I’m sorry, Lady, I’m sorry Lady” he keeps saying. I think this goes to the heart of the matter— ‘atheism’ doesn’t have to mean anti-religion, just ‘without gods’— but for people who are ex-catholics, or ex-christians, or whatever, they might have an antireligious bias that atheism alone doesn’t convey or connote.

No Christian in the United States worries about Kali-ma, possession by jinn, being reincarnated as a goat, or any other assertion of any other religious faith.

It really doesn’t mean anti-religious, but the evangelical atheists are just the most noticeable kind. Everyone in my Army unit knew I was agnostic and it brought me no shit, even though one of my senior raters was the head of Protestant Men of the Chapel.
(One day he showed up on a Habitat site with the PMOC, to be shocked to find me on top of the truck, directing the wall drop—confused the hell out of him, since Habitat is expressly a Christian ministry.)

My wife and I do have an “our song” though: Hot Rod Lincoln (2:48). That song was playing on a jukebox in a Spangles restaurant in Kansas when needed to wait a couple hours for a mechanic after our Smart threw its rear tire balance weights.
I am happy that Germany is a country in which a large share of the population are de facto atheists/agnostics who still attend church services but more out of a sense of family and cultural tradition: it is where your children are baptized, where you get married and where you hold a funeral service.
I find that church leaders still have way too much political and media influence and use it to get away with some pretty egregious scandals, but otherwise, nobody takes you to task for being an atheist.

and i would beg to differ with some of this— it seems to me that Christians in the US are VERY concerned about evil spirits, possession, their harry potter books corrupting them— etc. It’s pointless to note that they don’t worry about specific cultural anxieties, like the belief that their penis has been stolen by a witch— common in some cultures at some times, but not in every one.
There’s also this trend of calling critics of a religion “anti-” that religion. Like the Mormon apologists calling the books that show the Book of Mormon or the Book of Abraham were Joseph Smith’s fakes (duh!) “anti-Mormon”.

Jacklyn Glenn once did an experiment where she collected money for a children’s hospital, the video of which she has on YouTube.
The first day she was collecting money on behalf of an atheist group to donate to a children’s hospital, with a friend from a United Methodist church. She got a stream of hate, accusations she was trying to steal money in the name of sick children, &c. There was no “evangelical atheism” (the phrase often used by people when an atheist says they’re one, or questions someone’s beliefs—I never heard of any atheist knocking on doors on Saturday or condemning religious people in the streets for being religious).
The second day they did the same thing except as representing the United Methodist church. Tons of “God bless,” money in the basket, &c.
The end of the experiment showed they collected more money working for the atheist group, as atheists were far more ready to donate to a good cause than Christians.
(This is also reflected in the tips Christians give to waitstaff in restaurants. No atheist ever leaves a tract disguised as money.)

An anti-theist is a person who is opposed to religion (organised or not) because that person believes religion is a pernicious, dangerous, or destructive influence on society. Most anti-theists are not public figures, nor do they speak out (as they don’t want their house burned down or be fired from their jobs).
The term is dated by the Oxford English Dictionary as coming into use in 1833.
“Evangelical atheism” is also substituted with fundamentalist atheism or militant atheism, that is, having the same right to say your beliefs as everyone else, and are pejoratives only used by apologists.

Some people who are anti-theists will identify as such but most don’t (it can be dangerous).
That’s why Eric Swalwell was able to defeat Pete Stark in his primary (and why I won’t vote for Swalwell unless I have no other choice, if he runs for higher office). Stark, openly an atheist, was painted as anti-American by Swalwell for being an atheist.

I’m not going to get into it too deeply, but I will say that while it started out that way, the term was twisted by the fascists to refer to anyone that does something they don’t like. Exactly— i’m unfamiliar with this partcular way of delineating the logical space around these questions. ‘Anti-theist’ to me just sounds like ‘asshole’, maybe with a particular animus towards a few groups.
I think it’s possible to be an atheist but not bear animus towards religion, per se. In the same way that one might be heterosexual, but bear no animus towards others who don’t identify that way.

I tend to agree with you from the simple principle that while most religions with a vague semblance of “organization” worship some form of deity, not all of them would necessarily be categorized as gods in the theistic sense.

To the point that the late Chick Corea, a practicing scientologist, was not allowed to play gigs at any publicly-owned venues, only private ones.
And when I worked as a teacher/tutor in Germany I also had to sign a document declaring that I was not a member of the Church of Scientology.

I did 7-8 AM CT until my first snowstorm when I lived in MN. That winter, I rapidly shifted my schedule to the early side. Nowadays, I usually shoot to be in the office by 6:00 or 6:30 AM CT, and I get up at 5:00 in case there’s snowfall that needs to be dealt with before I leave.
Jesse only comes over to observe when I’m working with Gershwin. I assume it’s moral support. Or possibly that I’m singing numbers and she thinks I’ve gone pleasantly mad. Prelude 1. I’m at the stage where I’m pretending there are 8 beats in a measure and a sixteenth note counts one. But hey, at least I’m not just guessing where stuff goes in cut time.

Shocking news out of Sylvania, Georgia today. Ginger Sugerman, 58, tells us that on Friday night her husband, Arnaldo “Arnie” Lerma, shot her in the face with a 9mm handgun, and then later that night turned the gun on himself and committed suicide. He was 67.
When we talked to Ginger, she was back at their home after being released from a local hospital. We spoke to her and to Lerma’s son, Joseph Fox, 24, who confirmed that Ginger had been injured and that his father had died.
Lerma was a former Scientologist who became one of the church’s fiercest critics and was a central player in Scientology’s struggles with the early Internet. It was Lerma who first posted the famous “Fishman papers,” and also helped to propagate the “Xenu” story from “OT 3” through Usenet groups. For that he was sued by the church, and his house was raided.
Lerma’s personal website became a huge repository for information critical of the church, and it made him a frequent guest of radio and television programs. His involvement in Scientology criticism decreased after the early 2000s, but his website was still a useful resource.
On July 14, 2015, Lerma married Sugerman, another former church member whose mother, Barbara Ayash, had been well known in the church for her work with the front group The Way to Happiness Foundation. We hadn’t heard from Ginger in quite a while, but Lerma continued to post things on Facebook and commented here at the Bunker just days ago.
Ginger tells us that Lerma was suffering from severe back problems, and after a second surgery, was still in great pain and was taking increasing amounts of oxycodone.
“He was miserable. He would talk about suicide,” she tells us.
Then, this week, she says that she found out that Lerma had taken money from her without telling her, leading to a row on Thursday evening.
“We had an argument over it. It just floored me. I told him I wanted a divorce and would file a civil suit. I went down to the court to get paperwork. I told him he had 72 hours to pay me back. That was the argument. He called me names, I called him names. A neighbor heard us and called the cops.”
Ginger says that at this point she became aware that Lerma was armed, and she asked the police to take his gun away. “If they’d done that this wouldn’t have happened,” she says.
The next night, on Friday, she says she was on the couch watching television when she noticed their dog’s tail begin wagging.
“That dog loved him, and that’s how I knew Arnie was coming. He walked down the hall, pulled out his gun, aimed it and click,” she says, making the sound of the gun being cocked.

As I recall, the German government’s problem with Scientology was its network of not always transparent business involvements.

It turns out Davis was involved in the 1/6 armed insurrection. That may be one of the reasons his clients booted him from the case. But now, Davis is seeking legal fees from his clients he represented “pro bono”.

What happens here is that you have something called “Prisbasbelopp” (~= Price Base Amount), from which various payouts and fees are calculated. It’s based on an initial amount and is increased according to the Consumer Price Index (CPI).
The series for the last 10 years (including current one) is 44 000, 44 500, 44 400, 44 500, 44 300, 44 800, 45 500, 46 500, 47 300, 47 600. It began with 4 000 SEK back in 1957…

I think as warmer weather rolls in and people are able to get out doors and space out more effectively, along with the continuing increase in vaccinations, there will be a sustained decline through spring and summer.
I think the real test will be to see how next winter will go. Though I must say, I find myself more optimistic in relation to the pandemic than I have been in some time (having a real President again certainly helps).

You are very lucky. I’ve been lucky too, to a point. Most of the recent losses have been on my wifes extended family (an uncle, a cousin, a cousins husband, a great aunt). I met all those people though I wasn’t particularly close to any of them. The cousin was a cool dude though. I’ll miss him a bit.
My sister-in-laws uncle also died recently of Covid. I had also had a good friend die on 3/12/20, which was the week when the first wave of shutdowns started and everything went off the rails. He was never able to have a proper funeral. Officially, his cause of death was not Covid, but looking back on it…I wonder if it just didn’t get missed as we didn’t know a lot at that point.

It’s not a song, but something like this is part of the reason why Mrs. Fish and I are Pokemon Go addicts. One summer, driving back from fish country, I pulled into a gas station in El Paso, IL, to top up on fuel and check the oil before getting on the freeway. Damn good thing I did; I popped open the hood, and the upper radiator hose was swollen to approximately 1.5 times the diameter of my upper arm. If we had wound the engine up to 70 mph on I-39, it would’ve blown wide open and probably taken the whole engine with it. There was a Ford dealer literally right next door where I stopped and had them flush the system and replace both hoses. We wound up spending like 6 hours in El Paso, and we walked the kiddos around the town, catching Pokemon while we waited. We got home really late, but we had a good time.

I do not personally know anyone who has died of covid. I actually only know 2 people who got it. As far as I am aware, nobody I know has lost anyone either. My mom has some acquaintances who lost family, so I guess only a couple degrees of separation.
Like you, I do not know personally anyone who died of covid; my closest connection is an acquaintance who lost his brother but I had never met him. I know a few people who recovered from the disease, only one of whom was hospitalized.
They can be made friendly, but are still poor pets.

although these types of hearings let you know who is really a serious public servant and who is doing populist public art. This is unfettered, uncut viewing opportunitiees to see what public representatives know what they are doing. I can forgive someone not being as polished a public speaker, but when they’re uninformed or misinformed, that’s really kind of unforgivable and you can tell which people have done their homework and which ones are just beating off (like our less than distinguished Senator from Wisc.)
