Malika just tears it up with this new band. (Gotta admit the synth solo was a little off, though. Unpleasant tone.)

re: #176 Nyet

No, neither of the two things I asked for are demonstrated by this.

—-

Matt Schlapp is shown to have neo-Nazi leanings

was one of the things you asked.

Matt Schlapp was at that event. It was advertised well in advance, including who would be represented there. From the article:

Extremist groups and media shops also publicly organized their members to attend: the Oath Keepers, a far-right militia; the Proud Boys, a violent hate group; ACT for America, an Islamophobic organization; the Three Percenters, another far-right militia; Patriot Prayer, a far-right, pro-violence and pro-Christian group; and VDARE, a Nazi-sympathizing site. All of these groups promoted the Million MAGA March on their websites and/or social media. New social media accounts were also created solely for the purpose of advertising the event, and the attendance of white nationalists who hold some ‘celebrity’ status on the far-right. The Instagram account @millionmagamarch, which made its first post on November 8th, shared a flyer three days later advertising “prominent Million MAGA March attendees.”

The flyer boasted the attendance of Fuentes and Jones, as well as the white supremacist collaborator Jack Posobiec, Posobiec’s fellow pizzagate conspiracy theorist and rape apologist Mike Cernovich, white nationalist Michelle Malkin, white nationalist collaborator Scott Presler, and several others. The first account @millionmagamarch followed on Instagram was that of neo-Nazi and antisemitic conspiracy theorist Tim Gionet, known as ‘Baked Alaska.’

That is sufficient evidence for me. If you have a table of four Nazis what do you call the fifth person there if he doesn’t leave? A Nazi.

Schlapp knew these people were going to be there, as did the other Republican politicians listed in the article. Unless you’re specifically looking for Schlapp in an SS uniform or throwing a Hitler salute like a common Laura Ingraham, or a “mother figure” to the Groypers as Michelle Malkin refers to herself (and she was there too), I don’t know what else to say.

Schlapp invited Marine le Pen to CPAC 2018, calling her “a classical liberal.”

That is satisfactory for me.

Could this really be deliberate, or is it some kind of very bad coincidence?

4

I guess it could possibly be a coincidence, but damn. That’s not just close to the odal rune, it’s a pretty exact match.

Unless there’s a specific function for the negative spaces it seems like it would have been simpler just to build a triangle. Too much of a coincidence.

If it’s deliberate, then probably a prank by some mid-level Pepe. Or just a coincidence.

That’s the point of fascist symbology. They deal in obscure icons or repurpose common icons (such as the okay sign) so they can later plausibly deny they had anything to do with fascists. “It’s just a coincidence” or “you’re seeing things that aren’t there” (because gaslighting is a tool of conservatism, not an accident).

No, it was a big umbrella event with mainstream GOP participation and inevitable neofascist wing latching on. I don’t know what it is “sufficient” for you for.

Brexit-loving DUP causing problems in NI, as one DUP minister unilaterally decides to break the agreement with the EU:

DUP minister orders halt to construction of inspection facilities for post-Brexit checks

The North’s Minister for Agriculture has ordered his officials to halt the construction of permanent inspection facilities for post-Brexit checks on agri-food goods arriving from Great Britain.

The DUP MLA Gordon Lyons told PA news agency he had also ordered a halt of further recruitment of inspection staff for the port facilities and ordered an end to charges levied at the ports on traders bringing goods from GB into Northern Ireland.

The SDLP on Friday evening called for an emergency meeting of the North’s Executive to address the “unilateral action” taken by the Minister.

[…]

The DUP is a right-wing (for the UK anyway) party of often religious fundamentalists who happen to control NI politics because of the general dysfunction in NI politics leaving non-DUP splintered.

Anyway, Brexiteers don’t want to pay the price for their own actions have brought about. While the DUP was cautioning the English about Brexit, because the DUP depends upon nationalist English sentiment to counter the Irish republicans, it’s a marriage of inconvenience for the DUP.

Personally I think this is just part of a long standing problem that will brew and brew. The reality is that NI has been a problem since English lords wanted a plantation on another island.

DUP accused of meeting ‘malignant forces’ in campaign to scrap Northern Ireland protocol

The DUP has been accused of legitimising “malignant forces” after the party’s leadership met with an organisation representing loyalist paramilitary groups to discuss opposition to the Northern Ireland protocol.

Arlene Foster, deputy leader Lord Dodds and East Belfast MP Gavin Robinson held talks with the Loyalist Communities Council (LCC), a group that represents the UVF, UDA and Red Hand Commandos, all of whom the UK Home Office has linked to terrorism.

It came just a day after Cabinet Office minister Michael Gove and European Commission vice president Maroš Šefcovic announced in a joint statement that both sides are committed to the “proper implementation” of the NI protocol as set out in the terms of the Brexit deal.

[…]

When nationalist fervor rises to a certain level bad things happen. The past shows us this.

I have no problem with that point, but that’s not what the intial point was.
The point was that there is no evidence that the CPAC leadership deliberately caters to literal WWII-minded neo-Nazis. A modern fascist does not need runes and will probably even consider him- or herself an anti-Nazi.

How many reused slogans and symbols :cough: coincidentally :cough: used would be enough for you? And if you manage to warp someones perception of what a Nazi is enough, you can technically create a modern Nazi who considers him- or herself an anti-Nazi…

Well since Everyone Knows that only Liberals are Nazi’s then of course these good little conservatives couldn’t possibly be Nazi’s. Never mind that everything else about them from looks, actions, symbols and etc are lifted from the Nazi’s they’re just good little patriots.

Here in the US? They want their runes, they want their blood tear, their Dixie Swastikas’ and many even the regular one too. They want to be the strong tribe that’s going to kill all the others just like Hitler’s willing executioners did and they’ll seig heil Trump all the way to hell.

Then you have the problem with having become to accustomed to lies as well as telling them, they lose proper perception of reality, including how obvious things will be (but not limited to what lies you can get away with). They actually may have thought, “We’re gonna get away with making the stage one giant Odal rune”.

For me, the number of :cough: coincidences :cough: so far is significant enough for me to operate under the assumption we are in what Swedes call “Skymningsläge” (EN ~= “twilight mode”), i.e. the period of time shortly before outright hostilities break out. That is, you go from “peace” mode to taking passive measures to prepare, but put larger active measures on hold but prepare to be able to take that route.

Yep, they’re plagued. But to what extent? Enough for the party to be effectively compromised? Are they planning something which will give them power over the party? Given the historical record of what kind of threat Fascism poses in general, discretion is the better part of valor.

I don’t either. I’ve run stages before and the cutouts at the back of the main stage are less than useless. They prevent quick transitions and setups, are dangerous to disabled entry and exit, and breakup the view.

The stage is clearly intentional. Whether the organizers knew how it would turn out, or whether there was an SS-loving troll in the bunch (there are probably several) and pulled one over on the organizers… I don’t know.

But I agree with you. One doesn’t design a stage like that for general speaking events. Some avant-garde theatrical performance - maybe. But not for everyday speaking events.

These folks already have a preferred set of fascist icons that derive from American culture…fuck, part of what makes fascists fash is that they appropriate existing cultural material in the manner of hermit crabs or Ed Gein.

Given the cross pollination of imagery and the urge to own the libs with more and more explicit fash imagery, the possibility that the stage is intentionally shaped like a rune can’t entirely ruled out…but really the things actually being said at superliminal tones don’t really need subtle imagery as a backdrop or signal. Indeed, a lot of attendees are specifically trying to craft an American Christofascist movement that carefully evades the obvious Nazi references but creeps keeps (haha Freudian typo) the creamy ur-fascist center of stab-in-the-back myths and herrenvolk populism…but ultimately loves Franco and Pinochet more.

The first reason it makes little sense is they could have said this openly, given that there is nothing subtle about such a symbol, if it was used with intent. Second, they actually took steps to ban the likes of McInnes and Fuentes, so why would they signal their crowd aftewards?

It’s a quip, but there’s truth in there.

Bad shit happens to people who get twisted in their personal, idealized versions of things. People like the idea of a giant plot to keep everything bad/wrong because it’s easier than realizing the world is not just…and not just not just, but utterly indifferent to human passion, dreams, and ideals.

I always compare fascists to narcissistic individuals because the latter, too, have a kind of malformed romanticism that leads to becoming enraged when other people cannot match their grand narrative.

Then we have group/collective narcissism, where the narcissistic entity is the ingroup of the individual as opposed to the ego (in individual narcissism). In all other aspects, it’s like individual narcissism. Like, if it gets out of hand, you get a personality disorder, and adverse reactions to narcissistic injury, such as narcissistic rage. If the ingroup is the persons sex, (s)he becomes a sexist. If the ingroup is nationality-based, (s)he becomes a nationalist. If the ingroup is religion-based, (s)he becomes a religious fundamentalist. And so on. It wouldn’t surprise me if soccer hooliganism is basically ones soccer team becoming ones ingroup in the group/collective narcissistic sense. And from personal observation, there is a strong tendency for comorbidity, like how many have seen how soccer hooliganism and political extremism go hand in hand?

Speaking of coincidences. As folks pointed out above, the appearances in a DHS letter about the border of 14 words in the title (beginning with “we must secure”) and of 88 in a weird mathematical context, where we would usually expect 100 instead, are unlikely to be a coincidence. (There are of course several explanations for who crafted it this way and why - “evil Trump plot”, a somewhat simpler “Trump admin attracted sucky fashy trolls”, etc.).

What astounded me once upon a time is that the number of an account in the Reichsbank where the money stolen from the Jews in extermination camps was sent to was 1488. Which obviously was a coincidence this time.
